In Flanders feilds the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heart amid the guns below

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved snd were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders feilds.

Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders feilds.

John McCrae - 1915.

For all friends past and present.

"At the going down of the sun. And in the morning
We will remember them."

So many songs are about opiates. So many. All the way back to the Beatles and before.

My favorite is "Otherside" by RHCP.

Personally I listen to a lot of brutal death metal / black metal.
On any drug. Putrid Pile, Deicide, Devangelic, Guttural Secrete

However more people on the board liked it when I posted about stoner / doom metal as it fits the theme of our drug.
My fav bands of those are Sleep and Electric Wizard.
Eyehategod is about heroin and shit.

For literature I prefer dark/high fantasy kind of stuff
A Song of Ice and Fire, Lord of the Rings, some manga like Berserk and Claymore.

Guess not much of that deals with /opi/ per se but thats what I like.

Also, how could I forget about Morphine?

Another great album to to put in the late evening and nod with. Very relaxing jazzy /opi/ beats

And for anyone that loves ska/punk, or more fast-paced music-

This album has only one opi related song IIRC but it's still a good band and worth a listen if you're a fan of the genre

One more in the vein of ska/folk punk-

Ramshackle Glory and the main singer's previous bands (Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains, Dish Washer's Union (or something like that), etc.) have almost all the songs revolve around his struggle with alcoholism and opiate addictions. IIRC he's clean now but still sings a lot about the same subject. Probably going to stop for now and let some other anons post some music

oops, scratch that. It's actually called the Wingnut Dishwasher's Union, not Dish Washer's Union. nb

I was saving them for later. Haha.

I too think I discovered them on this board.

Marcy Playground - Wave motion gun and Poppies are great songs.

"O just, subtle, and mighty opium! that to the heart
of poor and rich alike, for the wounds that will never heal and for the 'pangs that tempt the spirit to rebel,'
bringest an assuaging balm; - eloquent opium! that with thy potent rhetoric stealest away the purposes of wrath, and, to the guilty man, for one night givest back the hopes of his youth... and, to the proud man, a brief oblivion... Thou only givest these gifts to man; and though hast the keys of Paradise, oh just subtle, and mighty opium!"

Thomas De Quincy.

Lou Reed
Pink Floyd, mostly dark side of the moon
The gorillaz(probs my favorite to listen to while opiated, just listen to this song. Sooo opi influenced. The gorillaz creator has suffered from addiction problems in the past and as such, so does the fiction lead singer, 2-D
And of course this classic
And one more
Gordon light foot, idk why but it just works
The violent femmes
Blind melon
Smash mouth
The blue travelers
Bare naked ladies

It's genuinely good. Don't knock it until you listen to it in its entirety
