Fuck /opi/ after making maybe 20g of dried pods as tea I can't pee anymore, I can't seem to relax the muscle.

What causes this? Like in which receptors cause what and how?

What do you do to counteract this? It really spoils the high for me.

Happy nodders

Back when I was a daily pod user I used to get this a lot and it was infuriating. I kept a cup on the back of the toilet so that I could fill it with hot water and pour it over my junk to encourage things to flow.

As far as mechanism goes, I didn't know much either so I did some googling and found some information. The first article I found seemed to implicate a loss of detrusor contractility and possibly inhibited sphincter relaxation as reasons for opioid induced urinary retention: https://anesthesiology.pubs.asahq.org/article.aspx?articleid=1942947

The abstract of another article offered a more concrete explanation on the mechanism of action: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ajem.2013.08.022

The inhibition of bladder afferents at the dorsal horn via μ-receptor activation diminishes bladder sensations and may delay the micturation threshold, thus increasing compliance and bladder capacity [3]. Therefore, increased urinary hesitancy and chronic urinary retention may be a complaint with long-term use.

I tried to get a full article through sci-hub but I guess that's all of it.

A more down-to-earth explanation from someone who understands the process would be nice though. Although I'm a bit too high to do much heavy reading I will give it a go and see if I can find an easy way of explaining everything.

getting into a hot bath is all i've got. although that's a lot of water to waste. unless you don't mind bathing in a tub you've peed in. hot shower is probably almost as good.

Hot shower running water over my genitals or a warm cup of water I dip my cock into is the only way I can piss when I'm high always been this way

I find a hot shower better. I find when the water runs on my neck and crotch region it helps most.

Fuck I would just sit on the toilet and nod off while praying for that sweet bladder release, sometimes for up to an hour....

Something that always worked for me was letting water pour onto my hand, I instantly want to piss

If anyone has this problem and needs to see this, a good solution is to lightly jiggle the balls. Testicles, for laymen. For women, do something else. Don't know what to tell you.

I'm already pee shy and now that I use opiates it's hard to tell if I cant pee cause of that or opi induced urinary retention, this especially sucks since I mainly use PST so I need to pee a lot and if I'm out somewhere I can be in the bathroom for sooo fucking long, My poor gf has to wait for me sometimes if we're out and I feel super bad for her.

Sorry, I wish I had better news.

At least in my experience, various opioids have differing degrees of impacting urinary retention. For me, kratom and prolonged usage of tramadol are pretty gnarly for urinary retention. I mean, shit, I would wait 10+ minutes trying to piss with zero luck. Historically, I have had zero issues with hydrocodone, codeine, and morphine in short- and long-term periods of usage (e.g. prescriptions for weeks or months of daily usage). Oxymorphone has never given me trouble, but higher dosages of oxycodone (e.g. 30mg instead of a typical 10mg dosage) have caused me some problems with pissing. Tapentadol has given me mild urinary retention problems, but it is negligible.

>What causes this?
I would assume because of the effect of /opi/ causing intestinal problems (i.e. constipation) that bladder problems are rather common as well based on how they affect the body.

>What do you do to counteract this?
Just stand and wait or sit if I get tired of standing. Run some water in the sink. Try to relax. Extra stress likely is not going to help.

Morphine is actually one of the more urinary retentive opiates, its just you took low doses

I would definitely say this is case. The most morphine IR I have taken was 45mg along with benzos, which in the big scheme of opiates is not a high dosage. However, I noticed an incredibly uncomfortable level of being unable to piss about 50% of the time I combined morphine IR and hydrocodone with dosages ranging from 15mg morphine + 5mg hydrocodone up to 30mg morphine + 20mg hydrocodone.
