Does Valerian actually have useful properties? Is it actually good for insomnia and anxiety or is that an old wive's tale?

It's OK. It does have hypnotic and anxiolytic properties (makes you sleepy and relaxed), but it's weak compared to prescription drugs. If you just want something that makes you go "hmm... I think I'm a little more relaxed, I don't know," valerian is for you. It also has a really pungent smell.

At first it kinda works especially if you drink a shot or two with it but kinda just makes me feel icky. I think the ethanol extract works quicker and better than extract pills.

it's a good potentiator (sp?) for kratom but you have to take it every day.
Valerian+5-HTP+melatonin is a good vitamin store knockout combo

After consuming Valerian Root, I often find myself with the uncanny ability to slow down time in order to shoot people quickly and precisely. Chewing tobacco has a similar effect come to think of it.

If you have noisy neighbours valerian root is a great sleep aid. Just crush capsules down to powder and leave a fine coating on your neighbour's doormat. They will walk it through their house and before long the smell will cause them to move house.

Sure but how do you explain when you get caught sprinkling powder on their doormat?

You do it at night, so you don't get caught, silly.

Heh, ever extract a magnolia pod? Now that's some gaba action.
Seriously though be careful with magnolia seed pods. The dosage is like trying to eyeball crystal LSD. There's a reason the seeds are just commonly labelled as toxic, because in the dosages actually contained in the seeds, a few could leave a person rolling around puking while feeling like they're going to die from alcohol poisoning, but not as bad really, but with far more awareness of the situation so it likely seems worse. Imagine being two shots from needing your stomach pumped, but actually lucid nough to understand how bad you fucked up by drinking those last four shots. Another note though, tolerance seems to build up incredibly quickly, so whatever enzyme (I assume from the liver) that breaks it down, likely is one that would be easy to figure out and may be modulatable by addition of some relatively common herbs with luck... but probably better to have the tolerance since I've seen some addictive potential, admittedly in people with ... issues...

I've heard about this before and I tried some magnolia seeds and they're were stimulating. Like unpleasantly stimulating, with no euphoria, just unsufferable stimulation like caffeine. What did I do wrong and what magnolia strain should be used? I don't know what strains I have, it just said purple magnolia and white magnolia seeds.
Martha Bruzzlewater - Tue, 11 Dec 2018 20:34:36 EST ZN11u+84 No.132087 Reply
Did you just eat the seed or do an extract? I found an ethenol extract of the whole seed pod (harvested when ripe just as the pod opened to show seeds) seemed very effective, though I never got around to isolating anything or doing separate extractions of the seed and the pod it's self. I know the bark does not contain significant amounts of psychoactive material, but has some sort of medicinal usage that I forget.
>purple and white seeds
What in all fucking hell!? I have only seen red ones, though I may have heard of purple, never white... I only have experience with the common varieties planted around the USA, that have large white flowers and bright crimson red seeds.

I hit submit by mistake before writing anything. What I meant in my post is that I have seeds for magnolias with purple flowers and magnolias with white flowers, I just don't know what exact species they are. Both types of seeds are red in color, the ones for the purple flowered magnolia are a bit smaller in size but they both had the same nasty effects of unpleasant stimulation when I ate the flesh of the seeds. This stimulation is the opposite of what I expected. Unfortunately I don't have a pod, only the seeds. I have been soaking most of the seeds in distilled alcohol for about a month now. I preemptively took 1 ml of the solution today and there was some activity that I think was stronger than placebo would've been and it was not stimulant which is good. I might try 5ml tomorrow.
Apparently the active substances in magnolia are Honokiol and a few others. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honokiol

It's only slightly good for sleep.

Yes and no. It's a very subtle first line herbal remedy type thing against insomnia and anxiety. If you're on 420chan itll probably do fuckall for you but yeah it does actually work sorta. Just don't expect to get high or anything jntense.
