Alright, straight up I don't mean to keep making threads on a slow board, but this has to be. I know I'm not the only gen-wunner out there, and even if I am, I can't be the only one who has a deep appreciation for gen-one pokemon.

If you've ever played Red, Blue, Green, or Fire Red and Leaf Green, then you need to check out Pokemon Origins. The series consists of four 20-minute episodes, covering the most important details of not Ash, but Red's journey through Kanto and into the Pokemon League.

For me, it was like watching my childhood made into an anime. I've never ruined so many pairs of underwear in one day. I hope you can reach a similar level of achievement with this series.

And because you pokemasters are far too busy to seek out free downloads for this series, here is the link to episodes I, III, and IV (II is included, but bugged, so don't bother with it): https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/9280375/Pokemon_Origins

Episode II is here: https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/10519535/Pokemon_Origins_Episode_02_English_Dubbed_720p_WEBRip_x264_AAC-C

I've scanned both of them with MalwareBytes to be safe. Enjoy.

This miniseries came out three years ago, so I think most of us have seen it. I was disappointed when I found out that it wouldn't be a full length show. The animation was amazing, and the fight scenes were better than anything you would see in the regular Pokemon show. There was one point when Squirtle had Charmander screaming in agony during a fight they had.

I really wish they'd give BW and B2W2 the origins treatment. That'd make a dope mini series.

Does anyone know a reliable link to either a patch for the US HG or SS rom, or an English patch for the Japanese rom? I've looked extensively, but most hosting sites are either no longer hosting the item or have shut down all together.

Made it to Mr. Pokemon and saved. The rom won't load the game now (pretends there are no saved games), which is indicative of pokepiracy DRM. Fixed roms are out there, but Nintendo shuts them down a lot.

Bumping for days. The patch doesn't fully work. You can kind of make it through the game if you don't save states, don't edit saves, and save in-game all the time.

Same. To be honest, right now I feel like I'm going to enjoy actually catching the Pokemon, and basically no other aspect of the game. It's going to just be a "Pokemon collection" game with some other shitty features which I probably won't utilize. There's nothing wrong with changing it up, especially on an entirely new platform, but they seem to have abandoned everything about Pokemon that makes it good, except for the exploring-and-catching aspect. But battles and even evolving Pokemon sounds much less fun in Pokemon Go. But whatever, it's free.

But at least that kind of makes me look forward to Sun & Moon, which I didn't care about when I was actually hyped for Pokemon Go.
Blackbelt Priscilla - Sun, 24 Apr 2016 05:44:13 EST gtMw3+QC No.227752 Reply

Actually, it seems like that just changed, too.

"Previously, all Pokemon of the same species had the same tap attack and only the charge attack varied. This is no longer true.
For example, we have now seen an Ekans with the following attacks:

Quick Attacks:
Poison Jab

Charge Attacks:
Mud Bomb
Poison Fang
Gunk Shot
Sludge Bomb

This small change of expanding the tap move pool by 2 moves has expanded the number of combinations of Ekans from 5 to 15. Granted some of these moves are of the same type, the depth to the battling is expanding. Depending on how you choose to define "unique", there are many times more "unique" Pokemon in the beta than the 151 species alone.
If Niantic continues with the apparent design decision to have trainers level up, but hold individual Pokemon's CP constant, this will only add to the breadth of unique Pokemon.
Of course, for the purposes of battling, some moves are effectively the same as others, even some Pokemon could be thought as substitutes for others. And the fair argument could be made that a Bulbasaur with 156 CP is hardly unique to a Bulbasaur with 157CP.
The take-away here is that the breadth of unique Pokemon in the beta is expanding, and affecting the depth of battling."

I want to see mega unown this this time.

I think it's ability should be something that enhances it's uselessness. Like hustle, maybe slow start or truant.
Tuber Henry - Fri, 22 Apr 2016 15:13:42 EST d2nSQYct No.227747 Reply
Or prankster or defeatist.

Then I went and made dinner and got thinking. What follows is entirely tangential blue sky thinking from someone who is both sleep deprived and hyper caffienated so I'll spoiler it because, you've been warned.

What would make mega unown get used? What if it lost 62 atk (making it 10) and gained say 90 special attack (this would bring it to 162) and 75 speed (113)? Give it protean and suddenly you have an admittedly one trick but seriously frightening trap card.

However if you want it to be more than a gimmick it needs more moves. Obviously no attacks that your opponent can actually predict the effect of though. So now it can learn mirror move, secret power and nature power or whatever the berry one is. Maybe throw in imprison and metronome so people have choices with their build. If they could make synchronoise not trigger protean then that would also be a good shout. Unown takes on the type of it's hidden power or whatever move it mirrored and then attacks all monsters with that typing. Would get rekt by priority users but hey it needs a weakness. Would be fucking hilarious in doubles with a follow me user supporting it.

I think it's finally happened to me and I'm bored of Pokemon. Been playing since I was 14 and started with Emerald. Pokemon has been with me for the past 10 years and got me through some of the best and worst times of my life, but recently I have not been engaged with the newer games. This isn't nostalgia, I loved Black and White (2). I enjoyed X and Y and ORAS were a good homage, but I just don't get the same joy and anticipation for new Pokemon games. It took me months to get X. ORAS felt lacklustre to me, and the steps you have to go through to get pokemon from Emerald were just too tedious. This is the first time I'll not be getting the new Pokemon game and I'll be retiring to Emerald and Heart Gold. I'm sure the new games will be awesome though. Anyone else lost interest?

I can't say I've ever really "retired" from pokemon. I got Red when it came out, I got gold and silver when they came out, I played crystal (or whatever the extra one after gs was) and then played a little bit of Emerald, but I don't have a DS and haven't had much time for most games since like, 2011. I replay red and blue every now and then, but it's not like OMG GEN 1 IS THE BEEEEST kind of deal.

I enjoy the artwork the most, I think, which keeps me attached to the series.

Now that Pokemon Go is a thing, I've totally gotten back into the franchise (I'm fuckin' checking around errday for info on the release) and can't wait to take roadtrips and make myself a badass pokemon team. The games, while all different, and all incorporating new features, have always seemed essentially the same, gameplay-wise, and I just didn't have the extra money, time, or desire at the time, but this "real-life Pokemon" shit is something I can really get behind.
Firebreather Molly - Thu, 24 Mar 2016 22:17:10 EST JVJQeu8Q No.227681 Reply
It's weird for me. Started as a kid with gen 1, but 2 and 3 were my favorites. FireRed I played soooooo fucking much, I was in middle school / early HS at the time that came out and didn't give a fuck, I'd play it in public.

I don't even remember if it was diamond or pearl that I got but I fucked hated it, did not finish it, was disheartened. Got into SoulSilver though and sometimes do Nuzlockes. It gets old quick though, I love it but I've easily played through some form of gen II at least 30 times.

Black was so much fun honestly but I was discouraged. Too much new shit and having to learn a whole new game. It's like being 9 and opening my yellow for the first time >.> I don't know what type anything is or anything. I got so frustrated catching pokemon only to look them up and realize you have to trade to evolve them, not an option for me, so fuck. For these reasons I gave up about halfway through.

XY the hype was huge, the reviews were great, and with the return of the gen 1 starters I literally thought Z was going to be the end of Pokemon. But because half the game is going to be gen 4, 5, and new gen 6 pokemon I don't even know I never got it, plus no 3ds.

So it's like Omega Ruby is basically the end of the line for me. Gen 3 was teh last one I liked and now it's remade and until it's remade again I guess that's it.
Waiter Ebenezer - Mon, 11 Apr 2016 19:58:12 EST ji5NiLc3 No.227732 Reply
Started off with Blue myself, and got on to Gold.
Never had friends to trade with or anything back then (few had gameboys, nobody had link cables).
Since then i'd try out the GBA versions on emulators... but ditched them quickly because they were really all the same. After that I only used Gen 1 and 2 to study glitches.

A few months ago I got a "new" 3DS along with Pokemon X for shits & giggles, really just to see how far the series had gone in the 10 years I hadn't touched the franchise.

Was hard at first, coming back to like 500 more critters to catch and memorize, but the new mechanics (online trade, mega evolution) were really refreshing.
Also it's a great time killer for the long trips back to my home town

Hey /po/.

My best bud, a couple other people, and myself are having a pokemon match with some relatively restrictive rules. I'm not great at putting together teams in the best of time (I don't know any of the metagame or anything) and I just feel pretty frustrated trying to put together a team especially when I don't know how to put together a functional team.

So! I was hoping y'all could give me advice on how to build a team/give me examples of some pokemon I want to look at.

Here are the rules: Base stats is max 500. The team must be all mono-type, and must include a normal, grass, fire, and water pokemon. As well, each pokemon has to be from a different generation. Last but not least the max power of any move is 70.

So yeah, any help provided would be greatly appreciated!

Monotype means the same type, friend. You mean singular type. A monotype team would consist of all 6 pokemon having one type in common like grass but allowing them to have a secondary type of any kind. IE Grass/poison or grass/water.

Yeah my friend and I really don't know dick all when it comes to like meta game and the ilk, I think he was just trying to make a restrictive format heh. He was trying to make it interesting, I just find it frustrating as heck.

I will report back on whatever shitshow ends up happening when we finally get folks together to play (it's a mini tourney of my pal, our friend and her partner, and myself. The partner knows pokemon 100000x better then us so hey it'll be wild).
