What's up /po/

>What game is everybody playing?
>What point in the storyline?
>Pokemon you are currently trying to level up/catch/breed?

Currently high as fuck and working my way through victory road in Y Version.
It's been kind of tough, but I just caught a Druddigon and evolved my Zweilous into Hydreigon, so things should start rolling now.
Also working on leveling up my Pupitar.

Bump on fellow trainers!

I am trying to breed a forretress with lowish speed and perfect hp/at/def/spdef. I keep getting perfect speed because the best partner I have is a 5iv gliscor. Also all the offspring are born with toxic spikes and stealth rock. If RNG would cut me a break I'd probably raise a few for different combos, or trade because that thing's hazards are your oyster.

Currently playing X/Y, I've been in post game for awhile, tweaking my wi-fi team here and there. I just finished raising a well-IVed, jolly crobat that I bred brave bird onto. The Crobat and Talonflame I stuck in the daycare fucked like crazy; I got an egg like every minute. EV training's done, and while I was doing some battles in victory road to level it up...I caught a shiny graveler.

also on a (pretty obvious) side note: Le Restaurants+exp share make leveling up your pokes effortless. went into the elite four with all over lv70 pokes and had no issue beating elite 4 using only 1 pokemon for each of them. Just thought i'd throw that out there.

Post game. Playing Heartgold atm in Battle Tower Singles. Farthest I've gone was 54 wins with destiny bond counter Gengar, Life orb Snorlax w/ self destruct, and a CB Garchomp. Lost to a Zapdos while Garchomp was locked into earthquake. this 100 win streak seems impossible.

It only slows it a bit, it's 80% or something if it's a female. I had to chuck 2 ideal pinecos away in my project but the odds of that are 1 in 25. The odds of getting one with overcoat the first time would have been 4 in 5.

I'm not breeding a venusaur. Trying to get a female with gigadrain so I can shove my male 5iv garchomp in. Female with perfect special and er... I guess speed is the stat I am willing to let go. M venusaur is supposed to be a tank and mixed attacker this time. Relaxed nature so he can take physical hits. I'll invest in hp and I'm not sure whether to leave attack invested as EQ still hits harder than HP that way or just to go with a split. I might run some calcs and see what I need to be able to check or counter aegislash.

Now just to figure out what the rest of my team should be. I'm thinking Chandelure, Snorlax, Breloom, Goodra, and Eelektross. I honestly have no idea where to go from here haha.

Jumping between X/Y postgame and a fresh game of Firered. On X/Y, I'm mostly working on fleshing out my Pokedex by breeding/evolving like crazy, while casually bolstering my ice/water+volcarona team.

On Firered, I'm ripping through everything with my trusty Wartortle, who is the only Kanto starter I lack on X/Y. Rival is appropriately named Dipshit.
Bird Keeper Hedda - Fri, 14 Feb 2014 18:11:55 EST kUXrpfog No.223580 Reply
Nice F/W/G core with the double typings all following the same grain. I'd be tempted to do a reverse one with Fighting grass/fire steel/fairy water but chesnaught and breloom don't grab me. Maybe if I got a HA shroomish I'd reconsider but for now, nope.

Snorlax and goodra fill similar niches, special tanks with good offense and wide coverage. Elektross might not bring much that the others won't. Goodra can have a nice wide range of coverage. I'd probably keep snorlax or AV goodra and look into something really different for the others. Something steel type? Maybe a scizor? Also what about hazards? Both removal and possible placement. That opens a new can of worms. Good spinners are few and far between and good defoggers are hard to come by and if you want to avoid lots of type duplication that complicates it further.

Just goofing around with whatever post-game is left on my Pokémon X version.
Training my Pokémon very slowly by re-visiting routes and battling trainers I skipped or missed, I always get more of a kick raising young pokes that way.

Mostly working on my Totodile, but I have a Dream World Farfetch'd with Leaf Blade that I'm giving some attention to also. Bred a Munchlax, now considering Bonsly or Smoochum.

It takes me a while to get things going. I'm still just glad to have my bros over from Pokémon Bank.

He may have DCed. Mvenusaur is one of the best megas too, in terms of ease of use. It's not super threatening but it's just so hard to kill. If you lack psychic or flying attacks then your options are limited. I'm trying to breed one now as I had a lot of success with it in season 1 but can definitely breed/build a stronger and more threatening venusaur. Then I just have to train it and another and do some maison and I'm good to. I'm planning on being at maison stage by tomorrow if RNG doesn't fuck me too hard.

Earthquake/Sleep Powder/Sludge Bomb/Synthesis

You can almost sense the frustration. He's probably the best mixed tier in OU, and he doesn't take shit because of Thick Fat. This guy will help turn a game around if you're knee deep in shit.
Team Magma Grunt Rebecca - Sat, 15 Feb 2014 12:03:11 EST kUXrpfog No.223586 Reply
Yeah. I was thinking giga drain instead of sleep powder but I guess I'll be open to trying both. He's S ranked which he shares with a very select group; aegislash, genesect, and these megas: Luke, charizard (both) and pinsir. And that's it. My old giga drain/sleep powder/sludge bomb/synth one was brutal but without EQ certain enemies had to be haxxed to death via sleep which I don't like depending on.

Poor blastoise

Right now I'm doing that, breeding one. I'm debating my hazard setter right now when this is done. I have one bred and ready but I wonder if I should just grab a defogger like mandibuzz and use it as a physical wall and support. I'd prefer scizor but I might be able to get a defog scizor... in a few months. Ugh. And it won't have great stats. I am feeling like priority user who isn't going to be choice banded might be nice though. Dropping breloom in where venusaur is would give me that and a nice two way core and some fighting coverage but I would lose the best bulky pivot in the game. I guess I could run defog mandi instead of hazards and have a bulky swords dance scizor (which I could mevo) in the place of my present designated scarf wearer. Then I'd finish with a nice special sweeper and it'd work. I think I'll try the team I've got planned out now first and see if it needs changing before I redesign it.
Officer Phyllis - Sat, 15 Feb 2014 12:50:41 EST bCRy1waY No.223587 Reply

>defog Scizor

Not worth it at all, in my opinion. I had a poor experience trying to turn this guy into a hazard cleaner. I feel like Scizor should only be used for his Band and Mega Set. From my perspective, all defog does is waste an opportunity to turn Scizor into a dangerous threat. If your opponent is smart, they'll just switch into something that is a threat to Scizor after he uses defog.

I haven't used Mandibuzz yet, but I've been in fights against him. All I can say is that he's pretty hard to kill. As for another defog user, I've been using special wall Empoleon a lot. He certainly gets the job done.

I've finally finished breeding for now and am now EV training. Then I have to level before finally I can get to maison. Still the breeding is the only pure RNG part so I should be up for battling people by the end of the week at this rate.

I also should finish the looker quest some time.

Try that. Though you can also explore cerulean a bit more, did you ever play gen 1 or the remakes? If so your nostalgia should be pulling you somewhere pretty strongly when you're there. Also I won't tell you where she is but Misty is on a date go find her. Pic related.

Restarted my SoulSilver yesterday, haven't gotten to Falkner yet, play about 30 mins a day, no free time, working 12 hour days.

Traded some breeding pokes over to my pearl for safekeeping until I reach Goldenrod and can breed, hatch, and train them. The only major flaw in gen 2 is that so many good pokemon aren't available until after 40+ hours of gameplay. What I will be breeding is: A Misdreavus with curse and an Aerodactyl with firefang. I started with Cyndaquil.

Unsure as the the rest of my team but I am considering a Starmie or Polywrath because they type combinations are interesting and I've never used either. I need to find a fighting type of some kind, possibly Machamp IDK. Last 2 playthrus I used a bug type and I'm tired of it, I need something else to counter dark (so fighting it is!)

Excuse my language, but fuck that...

If you want to fight someone, put your big boy pants on and accept the loss. I dunno, bro. It's really just a matter of respect and time. If I knew you're the type (not YOU, I'm talking in general) that rage quits, then I wouldn't even bother to accept the request. It's just wasting my time.
Palace Maven Jack - Fri, 21 Feb 2014 09:59:12 EST kUXrpfog No.223698 Reply
I'm pretty sure disconnects still count as a loss. Al rage quitting does is cost/save time depending on what's happening, or get you out of a match if the opponent is using an entire hax team. When cinncinno follows klefki I'm quitting on principle. Fuck you. I hate dice rolling contests because the hax never favours me. If my opponent sent gastodon against my mvenusaur it's quick claw would proc and fissue would hit happened to me once I stuck it out and lost 3 for 2. If that fissure had missed I'd have probably had it the other way so that sucked

You connect via a central server I think and it can tell who dropped. I'm sure that's why you're warned to ensure your connection is good when playing ranked.

You're talking about Battle Spot, right? Yeah, it definitely counts as a loss. I was talking 6v6 battles, though. So I'm pretty sure you won't get penalized for anything if you decided to just turn off your WiFi. It just comes back to what I said about wasting my time.

Ah well, on random win/loss is meaningless anyway. It's kind of a waste that way I guess bit I guess it depends how much match is left. I mean you fought them until they were convinced they could not possibly win any more so you should be pleased you got a victory and you beat them so badly they quit early.

Also I'm totally okay with quitting on a parafusion team (ie 3-6 parafusion users and a couple of counters for the things that threaten them) because speaking of wasting time...

I now have all 718 pokemon in my PC, 1 of each pokemon (game time 255:55). Pokebank made it heaps faster but I had to use pokedit for event only pokemon but other than that I traded pokes from SS, Plat and white/white2 then bred and evolved them in X so they have that blue pentagon.

Now with shiny charm in hand trying to find a shiny beldum in friend safari because black metagross is boss as fuck.

Beat Y version over the Christmas break. Decided to go back a few generations with Ruby. Then on to FireRed, Sapphire, LeafGreen, Emerald.

Just started my Ruby save yesterday. Doing my first Nuzlocke challenge, decided to use Persona 3 names for the -mons. Started with Treecko (Erebus), ran through a Poochyena (Shuji), Zigzagoon (Mitsuru), and a Weedle (Kazushi).

My current team's: Treecko, Ralts (Yukari), Wingull (Hidetoshi), and Whismur (Rio). Got a Nincada slave on deck, just beat Roxanne. I haven't had this much fun playing a Pokemon game in years, but the constant grinding gets a little stale. Not used to having a nearly full party so early in the game.

Bought White2, started it. I actually think this game is harder then X, but I'm only 2 badges in, I'm still just starting.
I got a Oshawott, Purrlion, Riolo, and Pidove. I'm thinking of drooping the Cat & Riolo when they evolve, and picking up a Daramuka & Drilbur.
Question, I hear Daramuka is a legendary? Or atleast in B&W you could only ge them after you beat the game, are they like that in this game, should I give up running into them in the wild?

Since this is my first time playing through this game, and I've already beaten X, I'm familiar with a few of the pokémon. So, I'm going to try and get the ones I dont' have to transfer eventually.
Waiter Barnaby - Thu, 27 Feb 2014 13:18:05 EST kUXrpfog No.223827 Reply
It's not legendary, evolve Darmitan. The weird one is volcarona. You can find ONE wild about 20 levels below it's evolution level below the desert resort or whatever the white 2 version is. It's 35ish. Larvesta doesn't happen wild.

It's definitely harder and grindier and the first 10 levels or so is slooow. The legendaries are the *ion 4 legged guys you find standing around after level 40. There is a LOT of post elite 4 content though. Tonnes. It's almost half the game. So many legendaries. I'm struggling with B2 now because I want to finish cleaning it out and wipe it but I haven't got the iceberg key yet so I can't get my last 2 legendary golems. I want those for my X pokedex before I restart but the one friend I have with W2 is just slacking. Ugh.

I was slow to the gen 5 party, so I beat the elite 4 on W and got a couple legendaries here and there, but I barely was able to start on W2 before there was talk of XY, which made me feel very "what's the point? I'll just wait for another gen. again."

Now that I'm in the endgame of X, my curiosity is taking me through a second run of W to refresh my memory before I actually try my hand at W2 for essentially the first time.

Side note: does anyone else insert their own canon into these games? For some reason, I've always characterized Hilda/Touko as deaf in my mind when I play W. Not sure why. :\

Running into some issues though: The FireRed, Pearl and Ruby versions I have are all american copies bought on ebay, whereas my SoulSilver, White and X versions are Australian. Apparently you can't migrate from gen III to gen IV if they're from different regions (PAL vs NTSC), but you CAN from gen IV to gen V. So I'm going to have to finish Pearl quickly, migrate them through that, then migrate them again to White in order to finally battle. *phew*

It certainly doesn't hold your hand as much as X and Y do, but I didn't find it mind-blowingly difficult.
That said, it was a nice little challenge in and of itself. Even though it gets a bad rep for being a rehash of Unova with a few extra features, my playthrough of Black2 has a very special place in my heart. Personally I loved every minute.

Prepping for gen VI I made some spread sheets to adjust the level curves of emerald platinum firered and white1. The games are actually good medium difficulty if you adjust it exponentially so the top trainer is level 100. E4s are usually level 80s and require thought (though still only minor team building).

White 2 I didn't do that to, since it had hard mode. And you know what? It was harder technically. At least initially the level curve was a little wonkier... It still ended up pretty easy objectively overall but it was really engaging and surprisingly steep for not being hacked. So here's hoping they bring it back for Z/Hoenn remakes/gen vii or whatever.

I also wanna add my playthrough of white2 turned me from some guy who played them sometimes between zelda games and hacked for friends to "I wanna make a legit team and play with friends and read the manga again and omg why did I ever stop being in love with this franchise".

Like, seriously, I loved white 2.

I found it started harder but levels off a little. Only a little though, the AI actually can uses strategies sometimes and shit too. XY is a walk in the park compared but it's not super hard. It's leveling curve was unique though and that means optimal leveling requires you keep a closer eye on the level of shit.

I have black 2. I'm now chafing for an iceberg key but that has to be done in person over wifi. Once I get that I can gut the save and start over. I have dream radar so it also means a new lugia with multiscale, 3 therian formes again and potentially a girantina if I can find platinum (I'm slowly ploughing through the older DS games) every time I reset both saves, which I can do whenever I want once I've got those last 2 regis. I suspect I'll eventually stop and try to get better IV/natured legendaries from B2 too. Oh I also need to finish SS and strip that for legendaries so I can shunt them up to gen 6. I'm hoping the spare stuff will give me some trading fodder.

In Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, players can travel to Pal Park as soon as they have obtained HM03 (Surf) and earned the Relic BadgeDP or Fen BadgePt. Access will be denied, however, until all the Pokémon in the Sinnoh Pokédex have been seen and the National Pokédex has been obtained. Until this is achieved, the construction workers outside will mention that Pal Park will be opening soon. Once the National Pokédex has been obtained, Professor Oak will meet the player on Route 221 and invite the player inside the building. He will briefly explain how Pal Park works, as well. Players will also find that the "migrate from [game]" option will appear on the main menu screen when the game is loaded, provided a GBA game is in the Nintendo DS's second slot.

says bulba... So... go back? Also is your gba cart same region as the nds and pearl cart?

No no, see, I've done everything. I beat the elite four, saw 150 pokemon, talked to Rowan, Oak came in, updated my dex to the national mode, I surfed to the Pal Park, talked to Oak inside, talked to the guy at the counter, now whenever I talk to him it's like "Sorry, you haven't migrated enough pokemon." I turn off the DS, make sure I have an American Pearl and American FireRed in both slots (have pulled them out multiple times and blown into the slots ala N64 days), turn on the DS, get into Pearl at the start menu and it only has Continue, New Game and Nintendo WiFi options.

It's more than likely my DS being Australian, so I'll need to ebay a cheap American DS to move it all across. It's just a bitch that I've had to do all this run around for something I thought would be very simple.

Backup the gba save, open it with pokestock or something, and make ds pkm files by hand... hard work... I dunno if there's a ds emu that can support palpark though.... But despite all that it's cheaper (in theory)...

Right now though I'm caning SS to get some legendaries I can't otherwise. And some spares because an extra mewtwo could always come in handy for trading. Still HNNGGHH about regice in B2 though. The ultimate catcher for 9/10 of pokemon (ones that are ghost or have double edge type attacks this won't work for) is a gardevoir (I think) with false swipe, hypnosis, mean look and taunt. I've not got one but I should probably breed such a beast at some point. When I stop scraping previous generations I'll do it. However I have SS to finish and platinum came though my door yesterday.

Smeargle has the easier to get movepool and spore. I guess gallade (it's gallade, I can't see gardy getting false swipe, if it did then it'd be ideal as it could mevo and hit ghosts with fairy type false swipe) has better bulk and speed meaning less levelling is needed to be able to get it's sleep off but when it has it it's not reliable. Smeargle is less effort though which decides it for me. Way less effort.

Yeah, she has loads of toys, Pikachu slippers, and cards (even if she has no clue what to do with them, she just lines them up and has them pretend battle). The best way to get a kid into Pokemon young is to just put the show on a lot when they're 3. Then when they turn 4, get them into their first gamer, they'll be hype as fuck to start their first Pokemon journey. When I told her she could go on a real Pokemon journey, her eyes lit up and she asked "You mean like Ash?" Next fall she starts kindergarten, I'm worried she won't like Pokemon anymore once a large group of peers is around to tell her what is considered "cool".
Either way, after a couple months of playing every other day for hour to hour and a half doses, she got her final badge and is getting ready to find the Elite 4. It's Pokemon Black, and her team is
Serperior lv. 47
Cobalion Lv. 48
Chandelure Lv. 49
Seismitoad Lv. 48
Tranquil Lv 21 (solely for Fly)
Fraxure Lv 39 (after she saw the 8th gym leaders Haxorus, she decided to start raising one of her own before traveling Victory Road)

It sort of follows the plot of Red, but changes the map completely. It's fun for fucking around, idk if I'll play to completion, it depends on if they hook me with the plot. It's probably the hardest of the games and the most complete feeling so far. It's just pokemon though. Know your typings oh and pay attention to pokemon abilities. Special attack and attack are no longer split by type but by move (ie fire punch uses attack, flamethrower uses special). Just give it a go, it's pokémon it still holds your hand a load. Some of the new monsters are good, scrafty, volcarona (whom appears once in the game only but is breedable) and some others and some blow. The elite 4 is about the halfway mark (they toughen up later though). If you know someone with white2 you can get all the regis unless they're lazy and get far enough but can't be bothered. Which is what happened to me (annoying as I miss out on regigas and regice right now). Early in the game you can get the following semi decent monsters; azurill (suffers because huge power means it can hit fucking hard but not if you don't have good attack IVs and EV investment), growlithe, koffing, mareep, magnemite all before the first boss.

Have fun.

I'm in a similar boat but like 2 teams in. Learned a lot so far though. But I'm no expert.

Your team looks like it's planning on 2-3 megas - be aware you can only effectively use one.

As for my tip? Understand that your first team will more than likely suck. Hard. More than you think.

The fastest level grinding - if you battle maison'd 200 wins, you can use the berries you got with the farm to brew rare sodas. Other than that RC's from various things - if you've been wonder trading your scraps, you'll likely have like 10000+ miles; go to the global link, exchange them 250:1 for RC's, and pick them up after connecting online again in game. If you don't have enough to bump your team to your desired levels, or you just want to conserve rare candies, I strongly suggest running the team through the E4 a few times before you use them (it will take much longer if you use the candies first).

Other than that, the fastest way to grind is the E4; if you have an old level 100 set it up to sweep and let the experience share do your work. The another person to keep in mind is Serena/Calem in the town only unlocked post-game with the friend Safari and the Maison (I don't play English). I also heard something about a cafe with triple battles but idk.

Don't expect the Maison to reflect competitive. The maison cheats but is crippled by incomplete theory and the limits of the ai.

The super training stuff is amazing for ev training. Remember to unlock them all.

My way to ev train:

Don't level them until after if you can help it; otherwise grind for Tabula-Ra-sacks by using just-woken up mons and making sure to clear the irrelevant bags periodically.

First, buy and use ten of the vitamins as appropriate. You can get them in the northernmost foresty-swampy-place (Romantia, but I don't know it in English). This saves a lot of time, and you can't use them if the EV you want is over a hundred.

I go through the weak challenges only until getting the medal, just so I know don't go in the +12 and lose; more evs mean more "attack" in the minigame; doesn't seem to be related to real stats. Only do twelves if they can win.

Throw away any and all "S" bags (the smallest rank, you'll know). At 1 ev they're not worth it. Make sure to clear your bags of unwanted frequently. Only stop the training when you get "L" sacks (the biggest ones) or doubles. Use them immeadiately because the attack boost will save time. Periodically go back when you have unwanted ones and use the m's then. otherwise you be breaking the flow.

If you haven't you should test your team in pokemon showdown or something for an idea of what to expect. Type coverage means things but you'll find it actually means a lot less in the long run than one can think. Make sure you cover your weaknesses.

For a rudimentary calculator I made a spreadsheet. Make a table of resistances and super effective multipliers. Make boxes noting your pokemon's stats, taking into account your abilities and items. Paste special a defensive column, multiplying the types together for dual types. Then for each attack of the finished mon, paste special from the offensive row (they resistances don't correspond to attacks), multiply it by the spa or atk stat appropriately converted to percents. multiply the percent by 1.5 or 150% if the move is the same type for STAB moves.

Adding all the columns for your team members' moves should give you a sum for each type; tracking the high and low values and high and low values should give you ideas of what you're actually weak to.

I also recommend cheating by looking up in smogon's forums the "viability" threads and only plucking the best complementary mons from the tiers. but I suck.
Rocket Ian - Thu, 10 Apr 2014 21:06:49 EST gIlD4r97 No.224301 Reply

Wow, that's a metric fucktonne more help than I was expecting in such a short span of time. Thanks. Truthfully, I picked Mons that I liked that specifically gave decent type coverage for my first time, but I'm expecting them to suck comparitively to current vets and -hopefully- teams I create in the future. With regard to the Mega Evolutions, Charizard is a definite, personally I love his Mega Y (I don't know what people think competitively). I've heard good things of mega Gengar but the last time I had a Gengar in my team I was just turning 10, so I don't know if I'd even be able to utilise him properly. I think I'll have to take great care when shaping him up. As for Mawile, I've never actually used one, but I love steel types and when I was trying to find one I liked I couldn't decide (coverage wise). I settled on taking a chance on Mawile as my wild card, and see how I felt about it.

For the most part, this is more so I can go in with a team trained to battle online and see the differences for myself as compared to how it normally goes down for me. When Pokébank opened and I got my mons from Black the first thing I did was took my highest leveled team and threw them into a battle. The guy took out all 6 and I only beat one of his, the next battle I got three before I was wiped out, the battle after that I didn't manage to beat any of them (it was three different trainers).

I did a little research on IV/EV side of things for the first time, had the Ace Trainer in Kiloude evaluate that team and learned that most of them were god awful stat wise and i probably only got through thanks to a few lucky choices when i trained them in black; Starmie had Toxic, which I manged to beat on of the mons in the first and second fight respectively while Metagross absorbed damage (Metagross was the only one with a high IV, in S.Def and Def. luckily).

As of now, I have fully EV trained Charmander, S.Att and Spd, with the last 4 in HP. Tomorrow I'll work on Froakie, I think. Although I'll have to do my homework on him first. I only knew Charmander's EVs because my friend mentioned it when training his team. I assume it will probably be the same as Charmander's, but tomorrow shall no doubt prove to be my first real challenge it seems.

Yeah Mawile and Ampharos aren't up to much cop without mega forms (nor is charizard). Gengar is a beast, he's fast has a great movepool and high attack. Mega charizard are both good but are very different beasts. One is a bulky physical sweeper the other a frail glass cannon. Both are serious threats that every enemy has to consider. Megas are often key monsters and when you battle look for the things which threaten them and note the same with your opponent's mega. Some megas are more support mons but the most popular can either rip teams apart in seconds, grind them down slowly but unvoidably or do the former after a short setup. If you want a fairy type who pummels shit and can't use mawile as your mega then use azumarill.

Inkay isn't so good even with contrary and superpower. Topsy turvey might be useful for certain circumstances. Greninja with protein is pretty good as it has STAB with every move but it's frail, if it's covering things others don't, it's useful. If not then definitely take azumarill. I would take a big look and work out what you need.

Work out your style. I think balance is a good starting point for 6v6. Try to have a couple of walls and a balanced set of attackers, something which can add and something which can remove hazards. Walls and certain attackers can provide support so consider that. Build a core which is the heart of your team made up of 2 or 3 mons with only a few big weaknesses and add support and coverage. Fire/water/grass is a good staple. After a while rebuild a team that fits your style, anything from 5 super fast glass cannons and a suicide lead to lay hazards to 6 walls.

If you're playing 3v3 on rated or the like it's a different game though. It's all about just throwing a team which is hard to counter. The unexpected and the gimmicky is harder to counter so you basically just need good defensive and offensive coverage. Even then a core model works but with a few subs to cover things which your 3 can't stop. When you line up it's a game of guessing what your opponent will pick and a lot of matches are won and lost at that point.

Just beat X the other day with as low level a team as I could manage. Absol/ Charizard X/ Jolteon/ Hawlucha/ Greninja/ Golurk. Highest level was my Greninja at 58 when I beat the champ. Some of my pokemon were mid 40's and somehow still pulling work I was impressed. Victory road was a lot harder than the elite four, I thought for sure being so under-levelled I'd be working a while at them but I managed clearing it in the first go. Damn if having two dark and no poison/fairy pokemon wasn't a bad idea though. Should've probably swapped my Greninja for a Tentacruel or Gengar, or Absol for a Mawille, but typically when I go through the story I try to only use pokemon I haven't before.
feel like the trainer battles this gen are much easier but random encounters are harder. Might be because there's only three trainers with a full team in the story this go around though. Working on starting a breeding operation. Plan on making some of my ol' competitive teams over again. Breeding good IVs is a loooot of effort though so no idea how that'll go.

I struggled with X for a bit. The cave before the third gym had loads of fighting types and my only flying or psychic was a peigeotto so I caught a sigiliyph, and by the time I'd trained it ten levels I was suddenly overlevelled. I didn't have to grind for the entire game. I was about equal levelled with the E4. I had speed boost blaziken which was insanely strong despite me only using it if I absolutely had to. Mould breaker haxxorus was also pretty strong. I was only using one pokemon I had played through before by the end but venusaur and I go back to gen 1.

Currently playing Ruby
Just finished the 7th gym leader
Trying to find a replacement for tentacool, and maybe something else instead of Kecleon just because I don't like it very much. Otherwise the rest of my team is pretty solid, I think.
Barely beat the 7th gym leader because my levels are way low, need to grind more xp, I'm playing on my phone so it isn't too hard to do that with the speed increase.
Pic related.

Gutted now as I got a new computer and cannot download the emulator required to play the games on Vizzed. Apparently I am missed some files needed to support the file.

Bumping because I beat my second super battle maison challenge. I feel like a mastah after beating that one. I figure I'll try do them all before the generation is over though after triples it gets to the really fucky stuff. Just got the doubles cup.

I didn't even need to use the level one aron trick. Most of my battles I won with follow me togekiss/standard doubles garchomp in lead and mkhan and volcarona sitting at the back but for the chatelaine I figured volcarona wouldn't work against the 3 legendary dogs and latios so I 4-0d her with BD azumarill and mkhan. Fake out/drum on turn 1 and then every turn after azumarill KOd something. Did help that on turn 1 one of their leads protected and the other ate a fake out but I still had garchomp/togekiss in the back and with suicide (who lead) broken down at least a little they could probably win it. My leads were ice weak but the arrival of ice types just meant that volcarona would have to wake up and do some work.

Singles I just used a standard sweeper dragonite as lead with khan and talonflame in the back, you can actually see what pokemon and movesets a given trainer can potentially use, but I am too lazy for that and had to win singles using experience/guesswork/knowledge of what my team could and couldn't handle at a given point in the battle and stuff. Doubles was actually easier, singles were won by dnite 7/10 times but that 1 in 10 got really hairy, there were a couple of situations where I'd have lost if the opponent had the right set on their monster or a bit of hax, even though obviously when doing this shit you have to assume hax will always work against you. For doubles I rarely felt threatened and it was just lots of follow me and earthquake spam really.

How many "monuments" have you guys erected?

My opinions are thus:

Blissey is cool but chansey with eviolite and full investment in both defenses is a better wall. With eviolite it gets a 50% boost to each defense, which with it's 5 base defense really means you increase the EVs and IVs 50% bringing it up to the point where with it's HP it's no longer physically frail. Blissey has 5 more base defense but loses the extra mound of iv and ev boosting.

For greninja most people say use hydro pump because it's the only move he has with more base power. You don't need water for the sake of being a STAB though it does give you the ability to hit fire super effectively, however you could take extrasensory and hit poison and fighting types instead or just take hydro pump so you can pick of weakened things that aren't SE hits (because greninja largely needs super effective coverage to win fights)

For charizard most people will say the same, take flare blitz and wreck. Though I guess without roost (EQ does stop heatran walling you but it doesn't do that much else) you're going to be worn down but I dunno, that's a lot of force you're giving up. I take it the speed IVs let you outspeed key threats at +1 though?

For singles you need stealth rocks, they are the only hazard which damages all non magic guard users (thus breaking their sash/sturdy) and they cripple a lot of really scary threats. Fuck toxic spikes they blow, mvenusaur will suck them up and tonnes of shit can fly above and remove them. Hazard removal isn't as important but bear in mind you can't switch charizard in to evolve, or back in again later without a HUGE hp penalty with rocks up, with charizard as your mega you should absolutely give him the support he needs. I'm not sure what I'd suggest because it's probably a bit of a switch up you'll need there. You do have two clerics which seems really redundant. I'd say one of those could go. If you can get your hands on aerodactyl, archen or skarmory with stealth rock you could breed it into them. That wouldn't give you removal but it'd give you a physical wall to perhaps replace sylveon who doesn't do much really, which could have stealth rocks, brave bird, roost and then one of many moves, toxic, taunt, whirlwind. Removal is a pain though as defog cannot be bred in, it has to be taught in gen 4.

You could run forretress which is a lazy one stop shop for hazard control but it's pretty mediocre. However it can learn all 3 damage hazards, rapid spin, volt switch, gyro ball and earthquake. Rocks and spin, then either a slow volt switch for getting stuff in (though if your opponent has a fire type it won't help much) or some attack moves, or maybe spikes too. Sturdy means you can live to get a layer off (unless you're facing taunt) overcoat lets you beat most smeargles and other sleep users but means you can be one hit with a fire special attack. You could replace a second wall, run a defog/taunt/foul play/roost mandibuzz but that'd leave you rockless and it works far better as a physical wall thanks to foul play punishing physical set up sweepers far more. Sadly the only good special wall with stealth rock access is heatran and that requires sorting at gen 4 and save scumming for not shit stats.

I was imagining using Sylveon a little more tanky but I see what you mean about hazards. I think I'll switch out sylveon for an archen.

Thanks for the chansey advice I would have never thought of that.

You're correct about Charizard speed. I'll probably switch EQ for Roost because I apparently missed fire punch I'd from gen V.
Arena Tycoon Hamilton - Tue, 11 Nov 2014 15:28:09 EST B5a99Bcy No.225572 Reply
It's a shame that heatran is one of the few things that will beat magenzone as that rework while leaving you stronger overall does leave you walled by the lava dome. I mean metang can beat it with EQ but if it's a scarftran or invested in speed it will have to eat a lava plume first. A defensive tran probably won't KO and won't go first but an offensive one will wreck it. Greninja is your sole check for offensive heatran though it will one shot it with hydro pump and has a 50% chance to KO it with surf assuming perfect defensive IVs, note it doesn't outspeed so tran gets 2 shots but it needs 3 to KO you with no prior damage, and that's before life orb damage at which point you might KO both mons at once. Overheat will really hurt, a specced tran or a crit will KO you and it's got okay odds to 2 hit you thanks to life orb chipping you away.

This is what people mean about hydropump. It depends what you need greninja to beat but hydro pump has a 85% chance to hit and therefore one shot offensive tran. SUrf has a 50% chance to KO but will always do a lot of damage so I guess you can send chansey out to finish the job.

Note also that getting defog is hard. Mandibuzz can be bred for it visa swanna but as I said it doesn't get rocks.

I say all this because heatran also walls your mega without EQ. It's not a decision you can make easily but it's worth bearing in mind that a heatran with good IVs is a LOT rarer on Battle spot than smogon so you'll face a lot less of them. In OU it's a dominant force due to it's defensive typing and stats but it tends to weaker and rarer in the... wild.

If they have decent IVs I'd be interested. Can never be fucked to breed a sableye but it only needs hp, def, sdef and speed really perfected, and I would conceivably use it, it's always just too low on my to do list. I won't be on tonight but maybe tomorrow, want anything in return? I have some espeed multiscale dratinis whose IVs won't blow, bullet seed HA shroomish (quick feet but it's technician on evolve, you have to get spore before you evolve then use the reminder to get mach punch though), or mold breaker excadrill if you want one of them.

It's a nice set. It's going to struggle with garchomp who's everywhere though, so it's not super anti meta but it can tank hits from hydreigon even with choice specs. I guess combining that bulk with good spread moves and knock off is nice too. That set also has room for a bit of switching up if you're okay with losing a bit of coverage. You could run taunt, roar/whrilwind or protect. For singles it's main issue is it could be setup bait to any bulky attacker though as drapion isn't super threatening really. It can probably nail most HO teams if you have chewed up the setup sweepers a bit though.

in gen 2 amphy was so fucking boss. It's a shame the really useful monsters don't show up for a bit. Surpised you didn't pick a slowpoke up though, I guess you're going with the red guy instead. I quite like running geodude but late game you need a friend to evolve him so bah.

I have to admit I thought the gen 4 remake hit the nostagia buttons adequately for me while having better mechanics. Also aforementioned red gyarados was way more useful as the stat split and addition of abilities meant I was running ice fang/waterfall/something and dragon dance and intimidating on switch in. So I'd throw him out on something that couldn't hit him super effectively and used physicals and then dragon danced. He was MVP for the elite 4/champion runs and probably saved me 3 or 4 levels grind by chewing through entire teams.

Kadadra is great in every game due to that high speed and special attack being amazing in single player, but he can't evolve and will lag a bit later on. Gardevoir maybe? Won't be as fast till it evolves but it'll be way stronger and bulkier if it doesn't KO with it's meat special attack.
Umbreon is kind of useful as a wall I think. Can't remember how it's supposed to heal. I think wish.

Nidoking is a good choice, great move pool and versatile stats. Arcananine isn't the best fire type but it's pretty strong and easily good enough for a playthrough. I used one in B2 and it was fucking boss, especially when it had outrage and slew dragons. Because it's gen 2 the punch moves are all special attacks, so I imagine you've been to the department store to beef your movepool up? Those moves are clutch as fuck.

Don't forget to ace the quiz by the dragon master. You'll get a dratini with espeed if you do it right. Because of the mechanics changes it is easy to breed that into a multiscale user so you can get the coveted espeed multiscale user. Which is also pretty much the best sweeper in Battle Maison in gen 6. Lum berry and you pretty much get a free turn to set up regardless. If your enemy doesn't apply status when your first outrage runs out dragonite eats the berry and and continues demolishing everything that isn't a designated physical wall.

However, I don't have a gen 5 to transfer anything from my gen 4 games to my gen 6 games. Luckily I do have two of the event Multiscale Dragonites. Don't really use Battle Maison though.

Maison is pretty fun. Because it's like levelled you actually have to use a smart strategy or at least a strong team and make the right decisions. If you've done it right when you break a streak you'll say "that was a really harsh team but I lost because I did A instead of B". Most of the time you can just open with dragonite and tear ass. For the boss you don't know their order but you know their team so the best bet is to have a monster who can destroy their whole team in one go in lead and take no chances. If you've won 49 in a row at that point don't blow the boss fight.

Which, in reality I only take part in to get the mystery gift for participating. If you've ever looked at the rankings at the end of a competition you'll notice it's usually Japanese players with insanely high scores. I'm lucky if I win any of the three required matches to qualify for the competition gift. I guess I should do more Maison battles, but still as weird as this sounds. I play Pokemon games for their meager story and generation aesthetics over the competitive aspect. And whenever I do battles with my friends I beat them. It's pretty satisfying to beat a real flesh and blood player face to face or that you know as opposed to a faceless trainer across the world or an AI in Maison.

Dark Void can put multiple adjacent Pokémon to sleep at once. Rarely does it miss.
Darkrai is pretty fast too, so chances are you won't have time to take it out or stall it.
Add that with Darkrai's ability "Bad Dreams" and you're losing HP at the end of each turn while still asleep and Darkrai is on the field.

Super easy to use, skilled trainers need not apply to use a Darkrai.

Almost done with the epilogue. About to beat the shit out of Nuzleaf, Yveltal and the Beeheeyem. I play as Riolu, friend is Fennekin. Most regular other team member is Sylveon.

>Soul Silver
Just beat the lighthouse and I'm killing time before I cross over to Cianwood. My current team is Quilava, Flaffy, Crobat and Poliwhirl. Having a really hard time deciding on my last two team members, but one of them will almost definitely be Espeon.

Also, HAPPY 2016 MOTHER FUCKERS. First post of the new year. Eat it.

Training for Elite 4, team of Raichu, Marowak, Snorlax, Starmie, Charizard, Primape.

Started the game with Charmander and ASAP transferred over level 7s of Arcanine, Ponyta and Vulpix. Having a team of all fire, cos I like specific Pokemon best and have never done a pure-type run through. Currently preparing for the biggest challenge so far: Misty...

Transferred over a Chinchou, Swablu, Houndour, Amaura and Ralts, started with Chespin, going to play through with that team since I like the look of them and have never used them (well, aside from Houndour). Just got the cartridge (I didn't want to start a new game on my X version so I picked up a spare) so I'm not far.

About to start the game with Action Replay on. Only cheat I'm using is make any pokemon able to appear in any area, instead of the set groups for each route. Gonna be my first Nuzlocke (and of course I'll apply the rule where I must catch the first Pokemon I encounter in each area, so I can't grind til I find something perfect). Excited to discover what my team will end up being.

I played the demo when it was released on eShop. It felt pretty neat and comfy, but I don't see how it's any 'better' than Pokemon. I know I'll buy this at one point because I've read nothing but positive things about it.

Bumping this shit because while I missed/overlooked the mew giveaway I managed to trade a multiscale Lugia for one. The one I got was careful with 6ivs, think it may have been haxxed in or cloned but it has the blue hex and I got a mew, which I haven't had since (another hacked one) in gen 1 for a pokemon I got a bunch of thanks to dream radar.

So if I don't miss any events I'm on track to have all the legendaries and thus be able to finish this and future pokedexes. Better resume evolving shit again. Think there's still 3 of the first 151 I haven't got in my current games!

I don't remember exactly how the third unlock on friend safari works but rather than trading the most wonder traded (but also most useful starter, I suspect you got one with the hidden ability which is what makes greninja such a boss) monster ever get one that way.

Also look up how to breed. You have as many froakies as you need if you have a ditto.

Push further until you unlock the friend safari.

Add me
0877 1072 7813
Provide your own friend code so I can add you.

I think you should then be able to explore my safari, there are 3 monsters (I will be using XY a few times in the next few days so eventually your DS will get the notification I long completed XY and the third slot unlocks). One is quilladin, you can breed this for chespin etc. Catch a few. Use one that gets "Bullet proof" because overgrow sucks as badly as torrent and blaze. Level that. Catch a few, get one with good IVs and a useful nature, level that and breed a single baby for the pokedex entry. Friend safari pokes always have 2 or more perfect IV stats and sometimes get the hidden ability making them the best starting point.

But also learn to breed stuff. If you can't get an army of dittos with 2 perfect IVs it's hard to breed perfect/good iv monsters but it will at least help with choices and the pokedex.

I can breed, I just had received a froakie from wondertrade and thought someone might be more willing to go through the ass of trading me for another starter if they hadn't already gotten one from someone else and needed it. But thank you! I'll add you.

Sorry, I just got a 2DS and Y so, I'm still pretty new to Y and haven't gotten the chance to get any pokemon that I couldn't transfer up from the old ones or catch on the game itself, and I chose froakie for my starter initially.

Guy who wants chespin. Let me know if you get my friend safari. I'm Chris and grass type (duh). I'll keep logging into X periodically in the mean time.

Tonight I'm going to do some trading and evolve a kingdra, drizzle politoed and competitive milotic that i've basicaly prepped for battle (well the feebas is level 1 but it's EVed and IVed for it). That'll be nice.

It's not an exact copy of "here at the battle resort all we do is surf" but it's based on that. Hopefully I can get 50 wins on this. I don't need to do 1000+

If that noibat is timid your friend is a bro. Also every gen has been a step forward (though 5 almost wasn't) and 6 is the best so far. 7 is going to be awesome

Also Aegislash is one of the coolest most unique monsters ever when you finally evolve that honedge. You can run physical or special attack, so take whatever it's nature and stats point at. Either shadow claw/iron head or shadow ball/flash cannon I'd get sacred sword for coverage and then run king's shield and leftovers and it'll be your rock through many difficult fights.

So far it's much easier than the Fire Red Omega hack but there is still an altered line up for the gym battle. Even found a second Brock and he told me to come back when I think I am ready. do yourself a flavor and play the updated fire red/leaf green if you are gonna subject yourself to gen 1 torture. Those bugs are killer. Personally I dont see how people can play pokemon without no wild pokemon cheats, getting whatever pokemon they want at the beginning of the game so you don't have to wait a bullshit amount of time to get your team you want, and sometimes even infinite heal items. When you've played the game so many times I suggest doing all this to make it way fresh and less tedious. Not to mention you can get whatever moves you need too with cheats. Emulators ftw

Started a new game in Fire Red yesterday. Been forever since playing any pokemon game, have never finished one after playing off and on for nearly 20 years. Gonna make it happen this time.

Started with Charmander, quickly got a mankey on the trail towards the elite 4. Have they always been there? It makes taking on Brick easy peasy. Quickly leveled up a butterfree, pretty dope but fragile.

Having fun with it, not really delving too deep into it in terms of min/maxing

In RB Mankey only learned seismic toss as far as fighting goes who it was useless (as seismic toss is fixed damage). Certain bosses were a ballache due to the shitty type distribution and poor movesets in gen 1 though. In yellow it got low kick. As you got all 3 starts before boss 3 yellow was easier in a lot of ways, you got a FWG core given to you so basically you could handle anything without catching any additional monsters. They made up for this by making the random encounters and trainers a bit tougher though.

On the whole it suffered from being the first game and so they didn't realise how badly they'd balanced everything. I remember that we had a rule of "only 1 psychic per team" among my friends because even then we knew how broken they'd made it through the distribution of bug (all bugs with bug moves, which sucked, were poison types) and ghost moves (no ghost moves had power except lick which was power 10 and so useless for damage anyway). The only thing that could threaten psychics was jolteon with pin missile and that was still capable of missing or rolling 2 hits pretty often and thus still being worse than just using thunderbolt.

Gen 3 was a whole different kettle of fish. They knew how to make a game by then.
Painter Isabella - Mon, 01 Aug 2016 18:11:27 EST thpcwBh7 No.228272 Reply
Also in the name of being on topic I am slowly clearing through my battle maison triples run. Up to 35 wins. Made a rain team that leads scarf politoed (rain setter), ludicolo (rain dance abuser) and a dry skin heliolisk (rain heals it's life orb and surf from ludicolo also heals it, thunder under rain + signal beam has been really useful and it can also abuse surf... when timid heliolisk is your slowest monster you're fucking fast). With terrakion, talonflame and mega khan in the back for anything they can't handle. So far it's gone well.

When that's done I need to recreate the runs I did on X for doubles and singles which will be harder. Doubles I just had a strong team and singles was basically sweeper dragonite doing 90% of the work and hoping my team didn't get too screwed by the enemy if it went down.

My Mankey (named Dankey) fucking wrecks right now. Oh you have a big mean Raticate? How about I slap your shit? Good little dude to keep around until I find a better fighter.

Evloved a Charmeleon, Gloom, and Pidgeotto. Charmeleon is more of the same for now just stronger, same with the bird. Gloom is dope once she learns Acid. Absorb and the effect powders work well enough, but it's nice to have something with more punch.

Caught a Geobro which made dealing with all those fucking Growliths on the boat pretty easy, same with Mr Surge.

Bought that Magikarp by Mt Moon like a rube. Finally got my Gyrados on the boat. Would have helped against Misty because apparently Bite wreaks havoc on the startfish.

Still learning which types are effective and weak to others. Most I remember or are really obvious, but with dark and steel and whatever other changes I'm not sure what's what. Having fun and still facing some challenge, trying not to grind so much that everything is a breaze.

PS Gary Oak is a punch bitch

Yeah if you played gen 1 then basically at gen 3 (it's changed a tiny bit since)

Dark beats ghosts and psychic and resists ghost while being immune to psychic. It's weak to bug and fighting and resisted by fighting and steel.

Steel resists pretty much everything except fighting, ground and fire which it's weak to, electric, water and er... I think that's it. It got nerfed a bit in gen 6. But only a bit.

In gen 4 gyarados actually gets better. Right now the type of a move determines it's special/physical status whereas in gen 4 and after it's done per move. Meaning right now all water moves use your special stat but in gen 4 aqua jet, aqua tail and waterfall are physical, meaning dragon dance gyarados with ice fang/earthquake/waterfall and intimidate is a fucking god. Whereas gyarados is really a bit mediocre in gen 2 and 3 (it has a poor special attack. In gen 1 it had a high special stat but now it only has a good special defense) it's been a top tier pokemon again since gen 4. Finish this. Play heart gold or soul silver next as it's the next logical step and awesome. My SS run was all about slowbro and gyarados just carrying everyone else.

Yeah, ampharos is a little slow but it's bulkier and harder hitting than most electric types and electric is a good type for taking hits (only 1 weakness). I used it in my SS play through and back when I had gold. You can get a geodude really early in the game too which is cool, though without being able to trade and evolve it, it's a bit shit later on.

Also the magnemite family is much stronger post gen 1 thanks to it's new steel typing, but ground moves REALLY hurt.

I have a sun team, trick room team, sun and trick room team (sunroom), Rain, Rainroom, and battle pass into a Kecleon with Assault Vest, Sailor Moon lookalike, no evolution line team, type immunity because of abolity, and mafia looking pokemon team. Gonna do some monotype teams or maybe Sand team. Currently breeding a Snorlax that will be named Tank Abbott for my UFC fighter team.

Used to have a 3ds and a gateway card to play XY. Had to sell it because dirt poor.

Recently learned of Sun and Moon being released and because of pokemon go the hype was real, went out and bought a new 3ds XL (awesome) and legit copies of XY and ORAS.

Currently assembling some sweet 'mons to take into the new games, can't wait. Also fucking around with PCHex++ so I can troll some mates with parties of 6 shiny mews.

Off work 2 months sick so I am fucking living and breathing pokemon right now.

OP here.
I finished that run of emerald about a week ago, I don't remember if I mentioned it in this thread or not. Probably I did, so nb I guess.

Two days ago I started a new file on LeafGreen.
Just cleared the SS Anne, about to take on Lt. Surge.
Party consists of Wartortle, Butterfree, Mankey, Weepinbell, and a pathetically underleveled Nidoking.

I plan on keeping those 5 throughout the whole game, but im up in the air about my 6th mon.
Choices I'm considering are Jolteon, Magneton, Flareon, or Dragonite.
Input would be appreciated =)
Mysticalman Charles - Thu, 04 Aug 2016 18:19:10 EST AAnJvEq+ No.228299 Reply
Dragonite is sort of mediocre in gen 3 isn't it? It gets outrage and can earthquake but it also doesn't get dragon dance or multiscale (and nidoking can earthquake, though I hope you haven't actually evolved it yet as you're now reliant on TMs for it). Flareon gives you fire and I feel having *a* fire type move is almost mandatory, but maybe less so in gen 1 as you don't have those awkward bug/steel types, skarmory (which jolteon or magneton handily destroys anyway) or ferrothorn to worry about.

Jolteon or magneton are the best but it depends what you're worried about beating neither get great coverage moves which is a problem. I assume you'll have ice beam on nidoking or wartortle.

I'd also replace butterfree as it can't really keep up later. It's a brilliant early game monster and learns some great moves but why not pick up a ghost or psychic type instead? It's best tricks are powder moves as it's stats suck and weepinbell will do those Probably psychic as you can actually fully evolve drowzee. Hypno isn't super fast but it's bulky and can do calm mind (shadow ball + psychic would give good coverage), suffers from having no great 4th move though. Maybe something completely different is due? Why not take snorlax or something like that, which just fucks shit up like a badass right off the bat?
Waitress Barnaby - Fri, 05 Aug 2016 12:01:39 EST P7A9Aqqy No.228300 Reply
Of course I evolved him right away, Nidorino doesn't learn anything good after that and his stats will go up faster as a Nidoking.
He'll have dig, sludge bomb, thrash, and something else. maybe strength if i have no one else to give it to.

But none of that really matters because i put down my Gameboy and picked up my DS and started a run on platinum.
Almost to the first gym with a chimchar, zubat, and psyduck. I hate zubats but I've never had a Crobat of my own so thats what i plan on doing.
Golduck might end up being a bit an HM slave depending on how his stats compare to the rest of the party.

Oh and nb for the double post, but I have a copy of emerald in the gba slot of my original DS and that lets you encounter some pokemon from other generations that you normally wouldn't find in the wild.
Pineco is one of those pokemon, 8% chance to appear, but I think having a forretress on my final team would be pretty cool.
Crush Girl Sophie - Fri, 05 Aug 2016 12:22:20 EST AAnJvEq+ No.228302 Reply
Nidoking gets mega horn and learns more TMs and nidorino learns fuck all, you're right. Could have learnt earthquake though, dig is a weaker choice.

I played a game of platinum and I had crobat too, good monster, not a great moveset but it can definitely work for you. It's best attacks require TMs or breeding though.

Forty is cool, I use him when battling people as my hazard control/sacrificial tank for free switches but for single player he's a bit weak if you ask me.
Waitress Barnaby - Fri, 05 Aug 2016 12:59:57 EST P7A9Aqqy No.228303 Reply
If I ever pick up that LeafGreen run again I could replace dig with earthquake via TM.

Whenever I start a new game, I try to make a six man party consisting of mostly, if not completely, out of Pokemon that I have never used before.

Anyway his groudon was scarfed/banded so it earthquaked and KOd my azumarill I switched in garchomp still expecting a mevo... no... so I brought out talonflame and he instantly forfeit. Cleaned the Team Rocket scumbags of the arcade. It was a bit more challenging than I anticipated. Sandshrew/slash can take a hell of a beating while dishing it out, while Raticate will put the hurt on you with hyper fang if you're not careful. Giovani was a chump except for Kangaskhan, but I was caught off guard.

Erika's gym was also a bit harder than anticipated thanks to higher level monsters and effect powders/spores. I thought I could just roll through with Charmeleon, Growlithe, and Padgett but they all made me work for it.

I think I did the spooky tower too, but I don't remember much because I was wasted. Gary Oak got nothing on me.

Fuck you, man.
Mysticalman Sophie - Tue, 09 Aug 2016 18:00:57 EST 6FJFWIBk No.228344 Reply
Sling hyperbole carelessly and there's consequences.

Sandshrew has a massive defense stat. Not so tough on the special side so if you come up against any most of the types which hit them super effectively (ice, grass, water) are special attacks so that doubly fucks them. While stuff like IVs, evs and the +5 to every stat affect it, the base special defense of sandslash is 55 while it's defense is base 110. A power x water moving coming off special attack Y will do about 3 and a half times the damage of a power x normal or fighting move coming off attack stat Y so it's more than just "Oh I hit it super effectively".

Erika is one of those gym leaders where her typing gives her loads of vulnerabilities but also loads of annoying moves. If you're just a little stronger than you were, you roll over here in a series of 1 hit knock outs. But anything less than overpowering and she's suddenly really challenging. Even with a charizard and kadabra I'd always have a backup third monster.

Meanwhile I'm levelling herdier and elgyem to fill up my pokedex. When the victini event commences I'll have the first 4 regions done and be most of the way through the last 2. Also now leveling a ralts I just bred so I have something to field if I ever want to use mega gardevoir.

I think I put that all in plain english, if not, I have a problem and will seek help. And yes I guess I already have a problem. I did only know sandslash' stats because I was looking at it with reference to how the new alola forme might work

The Pokemon GO metagame is basically, in this order: Dragonite, Snorlax, Lapras, Vaporeon, Arcanine
There are other good ones but Dragonite/Snorlax/Lapras are the best and Arcanine/Vaporeon are really good and readily available to most people.

Unless you have a monster with slow attacks trying to boost special attack it's 30-45 minutes to max 2 stats with vitamins only saving a bit of that.

You sorting a whole team at once?

Breeding is the biggest ballache but as you breed more monsters it gets easier as you accumulate 5iv males in more groups.

Also there's probably a few I evolved and lack a middle or first stage for but that's nothing I couldn't knock up extremely quickly. So barring 2 legendaries it's basically a living dex or could be with little effort. I do have a few duplicates of certain monsters (and quite a few legendaries, especially where I could double up on event ones which may be rare again later on) for battling though, doubles/singles builds and stuff so I'm a bit restricted by storage space.

I'm finally starting the battle tree. I'm not using a "real" team because I need to grind up a destiny knot but beast boost is based as fuck here. Once you get a KO with Kartana or Nihilego you just don't stop most of the time.

Once I've got the knot I'm breeding a marowak with lightening rod, a pellipper (good combo) as a rain setter for my tapu koko who can then spam boosted 100% accurate thunders, I need to work out my 4th monster for a doubles team but I think that should be a pretty big winner. I have a few ideas. Maybe a mega eventually or celesteela. I am also considering a torkoal trick room team.

Maybe when I get pokebank I'll just retrieve my 50 win streak doubles and singles teams, or maybe I'll just use some of them. Heatran is going to be great against sun teams and despite how good celesteela (better recovery, and attack than ferrothorn) the thorn will be better in trick room, walls water types and has more bulk and beast boost is so so for defensive monsters. Either way having all the 5 iv monsters and legendaries back will make getting those BP a lot easier.

Shame there's no triples. My triples rain team would probably manage a much longer streak than the other teams.

Everyone else still struggling with battle spot? I'm just doing normal and it's already fullly evolved from the get go. The points ramp like before but I think getting those big streaks for 5+ points per win is going to be much harder. Anyone know if the legendary trainers give more BP or anything or just suck extra hard?

You can't trade the glitch mew unless the OT information matches the one from the event years ago.

Team Aqua Grunt Nigel - Wed, 25 Jan 2017 20:14:26 EST PgPbqsZL No.228867 Reply

It is a shame but luckily its already been found out how to get a legit mew via arbitrary code execution so we can expect them to be all over GTS unless nintendo cockblocks it.

Anyway here is a direct copy and paste from /r/pokemon:

So the only way to transfer Mew is to have a Mew with OT GF and ID 22796. So we will be setting up arbitrary code execution to change the OT and TID of your first Pokemon to the "legit" ones. It's easy!

Step 1: Obtain 8F.

You need this thing to do arbitrary code execution. You just do. I wish you didn't.

First we must acquire a stack of 255x X Specials. I know how weird this sounds. Remember Missingno. adds to our items though, so this is easy. Encounter Missingno. with the method of your choice. Easiest options are the Old Man glitch or Trainer Fly with a Special stat of 31, 32, 50, 52, 56, 61, 62, 63, 67, 68, 69, 79, 80, 81, 86, 87, 94, 95, 115, 121, 122, 127, 134, 135, 137, 140, 146, 156, 159, 160, 161, 162, 172, 174, 175 or 181 (Thanks Bulbapedia). If you don't know how to do this, just look it up, many great tutorials exist on Youtube.

Before you encounter Missingno., make sure 1x X Special is in the 6th slot of your bag. Encountering Missingno. ads +128 to this, giving you 129 X Specials. Now while in battle, USE two X Specials. Now you have 127. Now catch Missingno. This will add +128 again, giving you 255x X Specials.

Now set up your bag as follows: 1x random item, 1x random item, 255x X Special, 1x random item. The rest doesn't matter.

Toss the first 2 random items. Your 255x X Specials will duplicate. You will now have 3 stacks of them. This is normal.

Continue tossing stacks of 255x X Specials until you only have access to 2 items (every time you toss a stack your bag will shrink by 1 slot, but it's OK, we'll fix it later).

Toss 253x of the first 255x X Specials, then swap item 1 with item 2, then swap them back. You will now have 0x X Specials in Slot 1, and item underflow is active.

Go to the very right edge of Celadon, one step from exiting the route. Toss 255x X Specials from the stack of 0 (Scroll one number away from 0) and then switch the remaining 1x X Special with the Nugget in the 35th position of the bag.

Walk 5 steps right, 5 steps down, 20 and steps right, then open the item menu to see 8F. Switch this item with your first item, then walk to any Pokemart and buy items until your bag is back to normal, working order.

Step 2: Setting everything else up.

That's the delicate part out of the way. Now for the tedious part where we cancel Pidgey Evolutions for 50+ levels (or, as /u/avodrok points out, just use a combination of Trainer Fly and the experience underflow glitch to get a Pidgey at level 1 instantly bring it to level 100 and skip this).

Your party must be set up in a specific way for this to work. The reason is that 8F executes garbage code which you're redirecting around to force it to do what you want sorta like a Gameshark... Other people can explain it better.

Set up your party as follows: 1. Mew, 2. Pidgey with 233 CURRENT HP (Max HP doesn't matter), 3. Parasect, 4. Onix, 5. Tentacool, 6. Arbok (obtain it via the Mew Glitch if on Red). That Pidgey is a bitch. I hate it.

Set up your bag as follows: 1. 8F, 2. Any item x89, 3. Dire Hit x58, 4. Iron x37, 5. X Accuracy x119, 6. Water Stone x62, 7. Burn Heal x50, 8. Poké Ball x43, 9. Antidote x43, 10. Protein x62, 11. PP Up x60, 12. Ice Heal x50, 13. Lemonade x134, 14. Great Ball x50, 15. Fresh Water x34 16. TM01 x[any #]

For the 119x X Accuracy and the 134x Lemonade, use Missingno. to obtain over 99 items in a stack. Remember that Missingno. ads +128 to your item stack, so plan accordingly.

What's going to happen is our specific party runs 8F to our bag, where we have more freedom, and our specific bag setup executes code that we want. You can do practically anything with this method. I'm serious. It's absurd.

Step 3: Do it.

Use 8F.

That's it. Your Mew should be "legit" now.

Credit goes to Glitch City Laboratories for this method, if you want to learn more about 8F and what it can do (along with the Yellow equivalent, ws m) check out http://forums.glitchcity.info/index.php?topic=6638.0

Credit for the setup described in this thread goes to http://forums.glitchcity.info/index.php?topic=6638.0

Enjoy! Don't blame me when you get addicted to glitches and inevitably find yourself slowly inputting data bit by bit by running through Rt 1 using ws m to write coordinates as bits for your shakily written code. I wish I was joking.

EDIT: Minor fixes.

EDIT 2: Ok I figured out how to edit the DVs of the Mew to be perfect. I'll need to mess around with it to figure out how to set them up so the Mew will always be shiny, but for now...

Put the Mew as the first Pokemon in your current box.

Set up your party as follows: Pidgey with 233 HP, Parasect, Onix, Tentacool, Kangaskhan.

Items as follows: Any item (any #), 8F, Lemonade x, X Acc x178/177**, Carbox x218, Pokeball x119, Fresh Water x201.

  • Number of Lemonade: I'm not 100% sure how this works. If you do 255x Lemonades it will set the DV to F (which is 15). If you do 254x I'm fairly certain (though this is untested) that it'll set it to 14. If this DOES NOT WORK, please let me know and I'll try to look into it further.

** 178x sets Speed and Special DVs, 177x sets Attack and Defense.

According to Serebii on Shiny Pokemon transferred from Gen I to bank, "Shiny - Based on the IVs of the Pokémon in Generation 1: 10 in Attack, Special & Speed and Defense a multiple of 2 = Shiny"

So therefore... Set your Lemonade to 250x and then use 8F, drop 1 X Acc so you have 177x, then use 8F again and it should make it shiny on transfer. This is untested though. Someone testing this would be appreciated, as I don't have a 3DS with both Pokebank and R/B atm.

Getting all my shinies and pre-gen6 legendaries up to 100 in ruby so I can hyper train them in sun. Only got ten left, I forgot it used to go this fast. You get 18,000 experience just from the elite four's megas. In sun and moon you're lucky if you get 2500.

that beast boost shit saved my ass before I got a destiny knot.

man game freak can't block anything. I hear their supposed ban on pokemon bred from hacked dittos was a bluff too. Serebii says they got rid of everyone with hacked save files but that's easy shit. I'm honestly surprised there wasn't any protection against that from gen 4 onwards. Kinda glad the ditto thing wasn't a worry though. I never used a hacked ditto but I did a shit ton of wonder trading, for all I know half of the breeding leftovers I received were bred from hacked 6iv dittos.

I'm thinking about making an explosion team. Turns out I'll need to farm a HA geodude or something but I know how to get those. Just need a lot of patience and heal items and something with a lot of defense and hold back...

I'm pretty sure you can get Geodude with its hidden ability by chaining them in SOS battles. It is the alolan Geodude you're looking for, right?

As to the HA Meditite, you can find one eventually by using the DexNav in ORAS. They can be encountered on Mt. Pyre. If you want one I can try catching one this evening when I finish work and such.

If you are farming for an Alolan Geodude I would be....Super grateful if you hooked me up with a breeding reject with HA. The geodudes in alola all have self-destruct and I really don't want to put together a pokemon with damp just to grind out some geodudes.

There's a female Meditite with 31 in attack ready to go if you want it.

Anything you need? I've still got some HA shroomishes, dratinis etc. Not sure if I still have an all 3 hazards pineco still though. Can also produce a leech seed ferrothorn if you want one, though celesteela has eroded that niche.

I've been playing a lot of Battle Tree during my commute rides. I need some more bullshit team options. Once I get that Pinsirite, Battle Tree won't be so challenging. So far this hasn't been so bad:

>Bold Klefki
T Wave
Foul Play

>Timid Gengar
item: Black Sludge
Sludge Bomb
Shadow Ball

>Jolly Gyarados
Dragon Dance

Also, I'm currently breeding a good Mimikyu. I did a bit of research, and this thing's got a really nasty moveset going for it. Set up with disguise, then start sweeping.

Life Orb/Ghostium Z
Swords Dance
Shadow Sneak
Play Rough
Shadow Claw

Also, I don't have a Rowlet. Thanks for the offer too, but I don't think there are any Pokemon that I need. I remember trading with my friend a month or two back, and how much of a pain in the ass it was. It was so much simpler in X&Y.

Holy shit, this fight was intense. Gengar really came through in the end, though. His disable/substitute combo was absolutely clutch. Red gifted me those Kanto starter mega stones for winning. I finally bought Pinsirite and unlocked super consecutive singles. Noice.
Pike Queen Edward - Sat, 04 Mar 2017 04:46:56 EST XPXVPxrU No.228967 Reply
The non super modes are a lot harder this time around. I've not yet unlocked doubles but I got the other two. Went over to a friend 's and we battled back to back against red and blue they didn't have a chance to be honest for singles I abused beast boost. Nihilego and kartana got me a lot of wins then I had... something it didn't even matter. Nihilego with sash usually set rocks (to break sturdy and sashes and make it easier for kartana to pick up KOs) and might occasionally sweep or do some damage with it's sludgewave/pyschic/power gem and focus sash too.

I've barely touched supers though I haven't unlocked super doubles yet. Once I get round to that (which will be after I make my explosion team) I will have my pick. My ORAS doubles team of heatran, rotom W, ferrothorn and mega kanga isn't quite an option so I'm thinking pelipper, koko, celesteela and heatran. If that doesn't work I'll build something around tapu lele. Did I mention I like raw power? That thing's psychic hits harder than a hydreigon draco meteor, an attack which OKHOs things like "most rotom builds".

My heatran is utterly clutch in doubles. So much raw power. My strategy is usually raw power in doubles with enough resilience that I can either thwart or just ignore most enemy strategies and grind them into paste. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of calculating and working out how to beat specific match ups involved.
Brandon !qdktvZ/yBE - Sat, 04 Mar 2017 09:22:36 EST D5rF2Diq No.228968 Reply

Battle Tree was nearly impossible before the PokeBank update. I think everyone was using the Ultra Beasts except me. I still don't have any of them since I'm too lazy to catch them.

Also, you reminded me that I need to try using Heatran more often. I used to use it all the time in the meta game, but I'm rusty as hell right now. All I remember is how great its defensive typing is. It certainly wouldn't be a bad idea to use it on my team.

As far as doubles go, I haven't touched any of that. I've never gotten into it as long as I've been playing Pokemon, and I feel like (I could be totally wrong) it's something I have to dedicate more time to learning.
Pike Queen Edward - Sat, 04 Mar 2017 09:29:49 EST XPXVPxrU No.228969 Reply
Doubles is fun actually it does take a little getting used to but it makes the number of broken monsters smaller because there's always 2 things on field to counter it.

My heatran was max special attack with max hp and it just shrugs off even neutral attacks and hits back hard. The typing and ability are good but it's stats are fantastic too. Mine's 100 with perfect IVs now. During the doubles ladder at one point it ate soemone else's heatwave... shit got real very quickly.

Also I got my shiny modest venusaur to 100 so now it's a shiny modest 6iv giga drain venusaur for mega forme funtimes. I am quite happy with this.

This is a super comfy thread, I always look forward to seeing it when I revisit this board. I've posted in it a few times before, and I'll add my newest team as well.

Taking down the Rocket base near Lake of Rage currently. For this run of Gold version I'm aiming for a 100% Johto team, no Kanto mons allowed. That's a little tricky for me since I always grab Lapras for my surfer, and I have to make exception for Crobat since he joined the team as a level 2 Zubat. But in any case, here's the lineup:

>Quilava L24
>Crobat L26
>Flaafy L26
>Heracross L25
>Sudowoodo L23
>Quagsire L24

Something I find neat about this team is that the Gen 2 in-party sprites are still generic monsters, however Crobat's line and Sudowoodo have unique sprites. Anyway, thanks for making this thread OP, it's been a staple of /po/ for years and I look forward to reading new posts and posting in it again.

My copy of Blue Version might be broken.
I don't know if it's because I dropped it the other night, or maybe because it's over 20 years old, or maybe I'm just doing something wrong, but the card key won't open any of the doors in Silph Co.
I've tried everything. Every door, cleared every trainer in the building, got the Silph scope out of the PC thinking that might have something to do with it, but no luck.

I'm not totally giving up on it yet, hopefully if I start a new file the problem will resolve itself. For now, however I'm setting it aside and satisfying my obsession with a new file on SoulSilver.

Just cleared Slowpoke's well.

Nice, yellow version holds a special place in my heart, and it absolutely sucks that I lost my copy several years ago.

I've had some time off from work and made a lot of progress on the last few days.

Finally beat Morty, I forgot about the Sucker Punch trick and took him out with Fearow and Aerial Ace.
Got to Olivine, lighthouse, fished for and caught a Staryu.
Farmed the Stamina Course at the Pokeathalon for a water stone, evolved Staryu.
Got to Cianwood, beat Chuck on my first try using Fearow and Bayleef, fly back to Olivine.
Beat Jasmine on my first try (I was expecting a lot of trouble from her) using Graveler, Bayleef, and Starmie.

Good show, way to go boxing the starters and picking those mons. I wonder if you could find a TM that works well for Parasect but honestly it looks like it can hold its own. You get bonus points for the nicknames, I usually hate nicknames but those are all great.

Could use a fire type, or at least something with access to fire moves. Though there aren't a lot of options for you yet. Houndoom is a great fire type in Gen II but it's not available until Kanto.

Anyway, I'm stuck in Blackthorn City at the moment. I've cleared every trainer on route 45, I'll be clearing Dark Cave and circling back around to the Whirl Islands in order to slap a couple extra levels on my team before I can take on Clair. I'm not looking forward to grinding but it's my only option from here on if I want that badge.

>L31 Quilava
>L31 Crobat
>L31 Ampharos

I'm also replaying Sun (not Ultra Sun) and having trouble to get through the Totem Wishiwashi. I wasn't going to include these but they actually DO have nicknames so I feel like sharing.

It's a bit more polished than R/B, so I usually go to it for a 1st gen playthrough. I don't have my cartridge any more, but I have an sd card for my DS so I play all my roms on there, perfect for old GB games. you can even play it in your web browser here https://www.playr.org/play/pokemon_-_yellow_version/1362
Thanks, I usually just think of nicknames as I'm levelling them up and rename them later. I don't sure starters that much, and I actually feel that, based on the mechanics of gen 1, the team I have here is kind of ideal. I chose all of my pokemon based on typing and stats and they have all performed spectacularly.
>sandslash is almost as bulky as golem or rhydon, but without all the weaknesses
>parasect gets spore, which takes advantage of gen 1's annoying sleep system. Is also one of the only effective anti-psychics in the game, cavecrab took out sabrina's gym almost singlehanded with just leech life.
>rapidash has awesome speed, and can take advantage of flinching with stomp
>starmie... is starmie. I evolved it right away and loaded it with the TMs I was saving and it was instantly a contender
>muk has toxic & minimize. I also gave mine hyper beam. he was a grind to raise, but damn is he good at grinding
-articuno was chosen over zapdos because it knows icebeam by default and could learn bubblebeam by TM. dragonite would have taken too long to raise and I was already grinding other stuff (plus... no dragon moves, yo). articuno just had a better set of special attack options, and it's kind of the most visually appealing as well.

Nice, I will definitely check that out, thanks!

I've decided on an Ice Pokemon for my sixth to help with Claire and Lance, but I'm undecided between Jynx and Suicune.
I know I've caught a Jynx before, the original 150 was the only Pokedex I've ever completed back when I was a kid on blue version, but I don't think I've ever really used one all that much.
I try to use at least one or two mons that I've never given much attention to in the past nowadays when I play any version, and I also try to avoid legendaries to up the challenge.

So that said, I think I'm leaning more towards Jynx, but I can't help but feel like my team is slightly under leveled somehow, despite me taking on just about every trainer so far so Suicune would be a big help.
What do you guys think?

I'm putting this run of soul silver on hold because something magical happened this Christmas.
I went home to visit my family for the week, and while I was in town my mom found a HUGE box of old game boy and ds games that I thought were lost forever, and Yellow version was in It!

So not only do I have a working gen 1 cartridge again, I get to play yellow (which might be my favorite of all time) on console instead of an emulator.

Just started a new file earlier today.
An hour of gameplay so far and I just got through Mt. Moon.

Game. Set. Match.

I lost my charger and the gba was dead for awhile, but I finally ordered a new one off eBay and plowed through the rest of the game.
Beat the elite 4 on my second try. Lance gave me some trouble because all of his mons were 20ish levels higher than mine, and those goddamn hyper beams 0hko'd fucking everything, but I prevailed!

Next up: I haven't done a mono-type run in awhile, so I was thinking of trying that on a gen 3 game perhaps.
It's also been years since I did any speedrunning. I finished a glitched segmented run of yellow back in high school and came within like 10 or 20 minutes of the world record doing the whole lvl 100 nidoking before brock trick. Might try that again for shits and giggles.

Can't find any of my gen 3 carts, so I'm speedrunning Yellow.
I'm not going for any records obviously, my goal is to get sub-2hr.
No save corruption or item underflow glitches because I have no clue how those work lol.

So, I'm going with my old route which utilizes a level 100 nidoking before Brock, and alot of trainer-fly and walk through walls glitching. I used to catch mew as well in cerulean, but i cant remember if its necessary or not. I'll figure it out as I go, I suppose.

Finished one of the harder parts already, that being the first trainer-fly in viridian forest, finding a pidgey first encounter and landing six growls while avoiding sand-attacks and critical hits, and then finally back to the forest to catch nidoking with only 5 pokeballs at my disposal. All in one segment!

I'm now at Mt. Moon with an in game timer of 20 minutes, so not a bad start imo.

Well I fucked up my speedrun by accidentally saving when i shouldn't have, so I started over... And fucking did it again!

So no speedrun lol, instead I'm doing a mono-type run with water types.
I utilized the trainer-fly glitch to get a level 7 Slowbro, and threw Pikachu into the PC. Brock was pretty easy, just spammed confusions.
Bought the Magikarp from the Rocket before Mt. Moon and kept him up front and switching to Slowbro first turn. Took awhile, but he evolved into Gyarados en route to Bill's cottage.
I taught Slowbro dig to make quick work of Lt. Surge, and got Squirtle from the officer.
I just made it through the ghost tower and picked up the super rod, so next on the agenda is to catch a Poliwag and a Shellder.

Undecided on what my 6th mon will be. Most likely either Lapras or Kabutops.

nb for triple post

Me know dem feels, breda.

I mailed an old 3DS of mine with UltraSun in it to a friend in Japan just so she could get me Giovanni's Nidoking which was being distributed at Pokémon Centers at the time.
Already got his Nidoqueen when I was living there so I had to complete the set.
Yeah...I'm weird.
