The moon legend has me floored. Exactly what I was hoping it would be. The lion looks pretty good but I'm still leaning towards Moon as my main game. Rowlet and Litten are going to be my two choices, Popplio just isn't doing it for me yet.

The map looks great, maybe a little small but I think that's just the image, in that case I'm hoping the overworld is fucking massive. The guys I assume are the region professor and rival look pretty interesting and it's nice to see a confirmation on customization, even if it is just skin tone. I appreciate the more lifelike models to people but honestly I miss the chibi art design, everything just looks a little "too real" for now but I'm sure it'll grow on me once we see the whole game.

I'm a bit miffed that we're literally going from a tropical region of Hoenn based on Kyushu... to a tropical region of Ahlola based on Hawaii. Womp womp.

Other than that, everything looks in line with what the trademark leaks said earlier last week(grass flying owl, fire cat/tiger, water seel), so one could assume that the two legendaries' names are going to be Solgaleo and Lunaala. Sans a new typing being confirmed, I throw a hat in and say Fire / Electric and Dark / Electric(or Dark / Fairy) for their typing.

The designs are fine; having the ball-esque nose on Popplio is a cute nod for show seels.

I hate Litten's name because we LITERALLY have a basic Fire feline Pokemon called LITLEO, from the LAST GENERATION, and it seems its design purposefully tries too hard to make it different (Gen 4 syndrome).

The Rowlet (Rufflet, again, annoyingly close name) is probably the coolest of them all; we haven't had an owl Mon since Gen 2, and a dual type starter since Gen 1, and a Grass/Flying(terrible type) since Gen 3, so I could see interesting looks taking place here.

S'cool to see the actuals, but no new information was really revealed / confirmed from the leaks, except for Rowlett having that "leafedge" new basic Grass-type move, which might just be his equivalent of Vine Whip.

Popplio confirmed for easy mode. When your rival picks Rowlet early on thinking they're getting the upperhand, they're fucking themselves later on because I'll be damned if the Popplio line doesn't get at least ice beam.

That being said, I'll be picking Litten on my first go and probably Popplio on the second. I'm actually really excited to see what the rest of the lit fam looks like.

The time to jump back in was gen 6. Definitely check it out when you get the chance or use it to hype you up for Sun and Moon because Gen 6 was the best generation of games thus far.

I've avoided Fire starters except Torchic (and even then I liked Treeco more) but yeah Litten seems kind of compulsory for a stoner trainer

I'm excited as fuck for this, at first I didn't really care but I think it's going to be extremely comfy to get baked and walk around a Hawaiin themed region. And the fact that Pokemon are more appropriately scaled to their human trainers (I read somewhere that it's inbetween HG/SS and Pokemon XD in terms of its scaling, so Wailord may not be properly giant but most Pokemon will be their correct size) will make it more immersive, I think.

I want my shiny Xerneas with a nature and IVs based on the assumption I might actually use it...

I got a timid darkrai with perfect special attack and speed, that took some resetting. I've been pretty meticulous with my giveaway mons so far.

Xerneas needs a similar setup. One geomancy, then sweep with dgleam/moonblast (there's a reason this one is king of doubles). Maybe modest would be sufficient though. Timid means it's more likely to be able to get the buff up before being hit which might help against flash cannon or belch users while modest means it'll murder harder after.

New video's up!

Sun cat is Steel/Psychic and Moon bird is Dark/Psychic. I guess part of me was hoping we'd get some original typing on at least one of them, but it's whatever. More psychic types are never bad! But how about that Rotom Dex though? I'm not sure how I feel about that. I guess I'll decide how much I like it depending on how annoying it is in game. All around not a bad reveal, though I wish we'd know how customizable the protagonists are because that was one of the best parts of XY.

I think the Rotomdex could be an interesting feature so long as it isn't just a kind of "HEY! LISTEN!" element of the game that tells you exactly where to go and what to do.
It mentions how it'll help humans and Pokémon communicate. Does that mean we can actually see how our party is feeling? That'll be pretty neat if they do it right.

I really miss how the Pokédex was used in the anime; identifying ghost types when they used it to scan a supernatural event like so: Go to 13:29 minutes in
Maybe DexRotom will do something similar in the new games...

Rotomdex could be pretty rad IMO. I only played gen I-III but I've been a fan of the lore. All the games look fun. I've been loosely following the game mechanics to see what is happening and for the most part I can tell Pokemon has been getting better over the years. That said, I never played with a Rotom, it seems like one of those Pokemon people hate because it's just a thing with a face, rather than being an imaginative creature. I know I'm getting a 3DS and Moon version when it's released so I better just learn to love it one way or another.

The thing I'm most excited about is that they've shown all the islands now. Looks like 4 major islands but there's more to explore beyond that. Each one obviously will have its own unique Pokemon so raising a team is going to be pretty interesting. I remember playing the original Red version and wanting an Aerodactyl, I had to wait until Cinnabar island and it wasn't all that practical. But it was awesome once I got him raised up so I hope I can do something similar in Moon.

What do you guys think of Lillie? And Hau? I see a lot of speculation that Hau will pick the pokemon weak against your pick, that's pretty refreshing. I wonder what that's all about, and if maybe Lillie will pick the third starter.

I want this to be one of my favorites, but I fear that it won't be. I seem to love every other generation starting at Gen 2. If I'm lucky, I'll like this game more than Gen 3 and 5, but I'll be ecstatic if I find it more enjoyable than Gen 2, 4 or 6.

But yeah, it will probably have a much more laid back feel. I'm imagining Barry trying to fit in in Alola and just having a panic attack because everyone else is on Hawaii time and he's trying to speed through everything.

I can see myself getting this game just so that every once in a while I can flip it on and check out what's nearby, maybe send a few of my pokemon to a nearby gym to train for a while so I can check on them too. New formes. I hope this is permanent. Another way to rebalance some classic mons.

Also if Orocorio's dance works in doubles it could pair really well with dancers, otherwise the ability is way cooler (formes aside) on paper than in practice. Otherwise though it could sit next to a swords dancer, dragon dancer or quiver dancer and be fed for some serious rekking of shit. (speaking of, the creepy fire/poison got it badly from mudbray)

Riding a tauros. Ice cold.

wait, it looks like he just called those pokemon he used for HM stuff. does that mean we dont need to deal with HMs anymore, and can just use key items like with latios/latias in oras? god I fucking hope so. that would be so great. seems you get a decent variety of pokemon to ride too. and those dungeons look amazing. they've really peaked with the graphics here. I hope they got their coding shit together and can get this all running in 3D.

z moves are a supermove that you can only use once per battle, like a mega evolution. I hope they don't take up one of the four main moveslots, and you just select it as a separate icon like mega evolving. I assume the alternate forms are only if you catch them in alola, and the original forms are available via oras and xy. I wonder if this means we'll be able to get the other Sawsbuck forms on each island.

Just throwing it out there, this design was one of the early designs of Exeggcutor. At least the long as neck thing, as can be seen by the box art of the TCG. Look at that long as neck.

So less that pokemon is going off the rails more like "shit dudes what do we do" "i don't know what designs did we throw out before, lets do that."

Which frankly I'm 100% down for fuck yeah long necked weirdo Exeggcutor.

it's weird how they'll pull up old designs and revamp them. tirtouga was originally from gen 2 and but didn't make it in untl gen 5. and a lot of moves from the tcg make it into the video games.

Ice is an awful defensive type. The only ice type that I can think of that even approaches viable is mamoswine because ground/ice is such a ridiculously good offensive typing. Sandslash's biggest issue is that it has awful speed to go with the weak defensive typing. Alola Nintales on the other hand has bigger issues. With the right moves abilities and stat shifts maybe it'll work but unlikely admittedly.
Crush Girl Matilda - Tue, 02 Aug 2016 18:08:42 EST wqBeLu2E No.228286 Reply
Ice type is usually the type that has the highest special defense. Regice and Glaceon are prime examples

I wonder if they put aside things with the idea that "Oh man we don't have the ability to bring this pokemon to life right now BUT FUTURE," or "this is swell lets keep this for a later gen because it doesn't fit well into the current roster with have lined up," or "Well we don't have enough pokemon, better grab something from the ol' trash bin."

Frankly I'm pretty down with it. I love the design of tirtouga. Even if Carracosta isn't a terribly viable pokemon.

Swimmer♂ Martin - Wed, 03 Aug 2016 13:47:05 EST AAnJvEq+ No.228291 Reply
Yeah but that's even worse. By poor defensive typing I mean it is a bad typing for defensive monsters to have. It resists ice and is weak to rock, fire, fighting and steel. As a result those really bulky monsters get the shit kicked out of them. They're all among the worst in their families as a result. Ice being a poor type means those bulky mons are basically weaker for their typing. For example glaceon is specially bulky? So is espeon, umbreon and vaporeon and sylveon who are all much better at taking hits (well espeon not so much but it's fast and can dish it out), sylveon has monster special attack and a typing which makes it weak only to two awful offensive (but brilliant defensive types, oh well) typings.

Now if ice types all got good attack or special attack and sky high speed that'd be better. Ice is the worst defensive typing in the game. A pokemon with stats to take hits rather than KO things fast and ice typing is never ever going to be that good. There will always be something that does everything they do better.

Mamoswine has a great attack and reasonable speed and ground typing and ice shard and so with a focus sash becomes niche but viable. Pretty much nothing else ice type is great. Exploding mega glailie is sort of good because it's fast and hits fucking hard and a surprise explosion will slay in doubles but it's too obvious. Double protect or wide guard and it's all for nothing.

Perhaps as a result, it’s sometimes found clinging to tall people or to the walls of buildings! If you try to remove one against its will, you’ll be met with a sound punch. Crabrawler’s favorite food is Berries. It punches the trunks of trees to give the branches a good shake and knock any ripe Berries to the ground so it can feast! Many Crabrawler may gather around a tree, but only the one that emerges victorious in battle against all the others receives the privilege of eating the ripe Berries. Crabrawler uses its claws to protect its face and belly while getting in close to an opponent to throw punches. Its punches are powerful enough to split tree trunks! Crabrawler’s pincers are sometimes torn off during its bouts—and they are said to be delicious.

Water/fighting though right? Cmon water fighting.
Nah, gen 6 was pretty cool. Gen 5 was the weakest gen for new monsters. Hopefully stuff like new formes and megas means less pressure to churn monsters out when they can reinvent/recycle old ones.

There's a couple of duffers even if the idea is solid but turtonator at least has a cool typing and will play interestingly, it's animation may save it. It's typing gives it 3 weaknesses as the water, ice and fairy weaknesses are cancelled, while it resists the fuck out of fire and grass and can handle bug and steel pretty well too. Not bad.

Also I'm curious. What will wimpod evolve into? Or will it just end up being fast and reasonably bulky so it can execute a move and give you a free switch. If you can choose who replaces it when it wimps out it could make a pretty good scarf wearing scout or support pokemon. I'm hoping it's a magikarp sort of deal though.

I really like almost all these new pokemon, and I hate it when people harp about the designs being downhill, but the designs being good aside does it feel to anyone else like they're running out of ideas?

Crawbrawler is a goofier looking Crawdaunt, even has a similar name, and Crawdaunt was just a revamped Kingler.

The new fire turtle is unique enough, but they've already done a fire turtle, in fact they even had Torkoal in its trailer, and aside from being a turtle it feels very similar to Heatmor.

Even leaving entirely aside that probably a third of the new pokemon are going to be alola forms of old ones, if gen 6's low pokemon count and mega evolution focus is any indication.

they're all just different species of crustacean. it makes sense that they'd add another since this is a tropical game region, like Hoenn which added the second. their world is like ours, where different species fulfill similar niches in different areas. like how every game has new birds and fish. it's not like pidgey has full biological dominance over the pokemon world, there's always more birds.

We still don't have a really good Scorpion pokemon, just off the top of my head. Starfish are pretty alien so the psychic type works well.

However Dolphins are a bit lacking. I'm not sure if they'd all be psychic but I can't think of anything other than maybe normal/water given they are mammals.

I guess I can imagine a fast physical attacker with dive, bounce, waterfall, bite, aerial ace, supersonic (maybe confuse ray at higher levels but starts with supersonic), aqua jet, aqua tail, zen headbutt, synchronoise, agility. Abilities though, swift swim and telepathy maybe?

They are adding a new water/psychic and now that I think about it a dolphin could have filled that niche, sure the "priority is OP, take that talonflame, azumariil and mega khan" ability on that new pokemon isn't quite as suitable for dolphins but if they're going to put out a water psychic with the intention of nerfing those monsters...

Given how things work here, biological dominance among pokemon would belong to rattata, pidgey, nidoran and feebas (because it's so tough). That and durant. The biggest single structural "tribe" in the world is human civilisation, after that only ants have nations as numerous as ours.

Differently adapted forms of previous existing pokemon? That's awesome! I'm willing to bet there's going to be a pokemon that references darwin's finches too.

I just hope some of these things are viable. If Sandslash gets some sort of hail-chlorophyll as a hidden ability, and Ninetails gets Snow Warning as a HA, then they'd be great. Sandslash definitely needs a new niche besides "weaker version of that steel mole thing". otherwise they're just asking to get destroyed with their typings. such a shame, I love their designs.

Yeah they just keep doing such interesting things I'm impressed with everything they've done thus far. Some designs aren't my favorite but that goes with out saying but they've just revealed so much in not even seven months and we still don't know a lot about how these games are going to play out.

We know enough to create a lot of speculation but we're still really in the dark about a lot of how the things they changed will play out exactly. Granted this is how Pokemon was always marketed to leave some discovery but westerns could always find everything out months ahead now with "global" releases we all just get the basic information of the games.

There's still two month left so we'll still get quite a bit more news but damn have they shoveled on the anticipation enough yet? It's almost gratuitous at this point.

Not like they 'ruin the game' or anything, but I'd definitely prefer if Z-moves were just regular moves with low PP, and Mega Evolutions were just regular evolutions.
Arcade Star Frederick - Thu, 22 Sep 2016 14:28:29 EST rwkNH2jn No.228545 Reply
I like the concept of mega evolutions in gameplay terms, it's like having a boss for your team, and theyr'e similar enough to their initial form that you can tell it's the same pokemon just powered up. some of the designs are pretty uninspired though. aerodactyl just superglues some spikes to himself and claims to be a mega. what the hell is that? I agree we should get more regular evolutions to older pokemon too. diamond and pearl had the right idea with that.

I'm not sure how to feel about z moves yet. essentially, you get a ohko or near-ohko once per battle and it takes up the item slot. it's more creative than the gems at least. I guess we'll see how it plays when the game comes out.
Rocket Frederick - Fri, 23 Sep 2016 12:38:20 EST E12wcmn5 No.228547 Reply
I'm more puzzled that it seems like they're scrapping megas. I liked that it added another meaningful choice to your team. In some cases it revived monsters who already hit evo limit or didn't make sense fully evolving, in others it gave really strong monsters more options or playstyles. That it gave you another meaningful team choice was key. I hope they don't take that away entirely. If we have to choose between that and Z moves fine. I know the aloha types should revive a few monsters too.

Unless they're just feeling that bad about mega kangaskhan.

There was something talking about how Jangmo-o can't be affected by Mega Gardevoir's Hyper Voice so we can make a safe assumption that Megas still exist or else they wouldn't have been that specific.

you can even transfer your red blue and yellow pokemon over to pokebank once that patch comes out. you can't send them back once they're on sun and moon though. same goes for your xy/oras pokemon. so you get your nicknames and move tutors in order before then.

I don't even mind how broken Mega Kangaskhan is. The concept is great and the fact that such a weak pokemon is so powerful now is god damned hilarious. I want some sort of super dunsparce now. give it some broken ass ability like having all of it's moves be super effective no matter what.

kanga was never super weak, it just didn't quite enough of anything. I think that there's so few things that stops it centralises the game around kanga and kanga counters but then I could always play doubles where just about everything can be handled without needing to work as hard to build around it. Most people here do singles.

I want to see a crap monster become even worse. Like mega anon. Or a mega farfetch'd that... I don't care if it's good or awful. Just a mega version. Like he has 2 leeks or a collander on his head or something.

Yeah.. I'm disappointed about these starters as well because the leaked evolution concept designs seems much more plausible now. Torracat's collar shares the same concept as the belt of the hind-legged monstrously, with this quote about Torracat' being almost the nail in the coffin: ""The cat punch that this Pokémon can dish out with its strong forelegs is extremely powerful. It can bend iron bars and knock out large men with a single blow!""

The others are quite similar as well

"Dartrix is extremely sensitive to other presences in the area and can detect opponents behind it and throw feathers to strike them without even seeing them. This Pokémon conceals sharp-bladed feathers inside its wings, showing astounding precision as it sends them flying in attack. And it goes beyond propelling its blade quills in simple straight lines—it can even bend these feathers to change their trajectories!

""Brionne learns its dances by imitating the other members of its colony. It sometimes even learns dances from humans. This Pokémon is a hard worker and pours itself into its efforts until it has memorized each dance. As it dances, Brionne creates balloon after balloon. In battle, it first sends its opponent into disarray with its dancing, and then slaps its balloons into its target, causing the balloons to explode and deal damage."

tbh i don't find the leaked litten evo to be reprehensible. it's a wrestler, those guys tend to be pretty goddamn awesome. if you disagree then take it to /woo. of course if they make it fire/fighting then it would be a redundant piece of trash, but i think they know better than that. it's going to be fire/dark bc wrestlers aren't technically fighting in the first place pro wrestling is an act, in other words a deception, which fits the dark typing pretty well imho

I mean I hope you're right but Hawlucha was fighting? Is mexican wrestling real?

Also if he is a dirty wrestler he should get a move where one of the other members of your team hands him (well, usually as it's a starter) a piece of furniture and he hits them with it. It could use their equipped item (then hand it back) but I can't see anything not called "Iron ball" doing much damage. I guess maybe if you have a gliscor and smack the opponent with it's toxic orb that'd be good. Giveaway event one such monster called "Benoit" moveset: Bulk up, rage, constrict and self destruct

Sadly I suspect that despite the existence of mimicyu GF won't do anything that imaginative.

They're all multiplicative. So actually it's a 1.69x multiplier that is then pushed up to 2.535x by STAB.

When it says "Increases damage by %" that's "increases damage by % compared to if you didn't have this effect" not "by % of base damage".

The order doesn't matter when multiplying.

Some will definitely need a rejig but not all will. For example ice type sandshrew will be useless with it's slow physical tanks stats given a newfound fighting and rock weakness. Vulpix/Ninetales new typing would be great for offense but it presently has good enough speed but the stats it needs to actually score KOs before eating a flash cannon or iron head and exploding into a million pieces (or probably just a good sludge bomb tbh) are absent.

Some of them don't need such a tweak. Dark/poison is a superb typing for something as bulky as Muk.

Honestly, ever since they started announcing Pokemon for this gen, it's felt like Black and White 3.0 for me. Gen 6 was full of legit Pokemon and felt like the logical step from Gen 4. I'm almost convinced that they have two separate teams working on Pokemon and they take turns each generation since Gen 2 because I always seem to like the even numbered gens better. But this is the first time I'm really excited about an odd numbered gen because Gen 5 was basically a total bust.

BW2 was pretty good. Just a lot of lame monsters and the originals were crap. It's a shame because the sequels were pretty substantial. every since x and y they've been trying really hard to pander to old fans. I like that honestly. the Pokemon Origins series was clearly there to say "hey look old fans, it's red, not ash but literally fucking red going through the game", and then they threw mega evolution in at the end to ease people into the new games. it worked too. I imagine the success of that is why they're doing this pokemon generations thing lately too. Though the pacing of those shorts is awful and they never go anywhere. and the english voice actors sound like robots who did this in one take with no rehearsal.
Lass Lydia - Mon, 24 Oct 2016 04:20:45 EST xNHeAFRu No.228633 Reply
It's kinda neat but the statement that the games have evolved too is kinda ironic, seeing how the lack of progress/innovation in the series is the biggest criticism.
Guitarist Clara - Mon, 24 Oct 2016 17:57:10 EST j++OqZlL No.228634 Reply
I dunno.

I think there's been a lot of progress. But innovation yeah. I think they've worked by constantly improving the core concept rather than reinventing it and a lot has changed. In addition to new monsters and moves the following concepts were added (not counting stuff that was tried and didn't stick, there is plenty of that):

Gen 2 added new types and held items, as well as new ways of evolving and breeding. Weather became a thing though it was significantly re iterated for each generation that followed. Trapping moves were overhauled. Special was split into 2. Friendship was also added.

Gen 3 added natures and overhauled IVs and EVs. More tellingly it added abilities which were a new dimension to each pokemon and introduced the doubles format which later became the main competitive format. Contests were added.

Gen 4 changed the way attack and special attack affected moves. Instead of moves being determined by type it was based on the individual move. Instead of all electric moves being special for example, thunder punch is now physical and thunderbolt special. This allowed several monsters moves to actually match their stats. Entry hazards were added.

Gen 5 was probably the lamest generation for big changes. Repels now ask if you want to re apply. A lot of various other features were added in gen 5 part 2 but these were not carried over. Oh and formes were added.

Gen 6 made breeding and ev/iv training more accessible and so made top level competitive play less of an exclusive time sink without lowering the knowledge required. Mega evolutions. We'll see if the affection rating is still there in gen 7 too...

I'd say since gen 4 the rate of change has slowed down but they've been making big changes and slowly tweaking each change until it's balanced
Burglar Angus - Mon, 24 Oct 2016 20:28:26 EST 3D/0+y7S No.228635 Reply
yeah it was weird how gen 3 and 4 changed things so much and then gen 5 just added more moves and abilities. felt like an expansion pack if anything. though I liked the story for once with b1w1 (game freak must have known it was interesting cause they rehashed it in gen 6). fun map to explore too, even if it's more linear compared to the previous 4 gens.

the overall structure of the game is the one thing that never changes though, and I think they're trying to do something different with that in the new game. the fact that they're getting rid of gyms is very interesting. I just hope the trials end up more involved than that boring one in the demo though.
Jr. Trainer♀ Sidney - Tue, 25 Oct 2016 13:12:18 EST j++OqZlL No.228636 Reply
I think they refined the game and fixed all the flaws the first gen shipped with and since then are just trying to refine the game and grow it without breaking it or making it inaccessible and they're afraid of making it not play like pokemon.

However as far as the story goes, a different format would be great. The whole eva thing seems like it COULD be different but I have a feeling it'll end up following the same path. It would be nice to not go through the same story plot points in the same order.

The terrain effect abilities might be good. No one ever uses terrain moves but if it's free on switch in that might actually be worthwhile. Especially if they've also buffed terrains. So actually a new twist... hopefully you become the first champion in a big kerfuffle and the E4 is set after you. Then you battle other champion level players in the post game. It would be a nice change to have tournaments for BP though unless your opponents are super fucking tight it'd be a lot easier to prepare for a dozen trainers each with a fixed team and only need to beat a few in a row at a time than the random crap the battle maison can throw at you.

yeah the game is pretty much on rails. also it's kinda weird that trainers only have 1-2 pokemon, even your rivals. the levels really open up once you get the hm pokemon though. the first island is really linear until you beat the kahuna, then suddenly you get tauros and the area nearly doubles in size from how many areas are suddenly available to do in whatever order you feel like. I just got lapras and I have a feeling the game is gonna follow a pattern of heavily guided story stuff and then open exploration for each island. I kinda wish there was actual challenge to the story bits though. it's pretty much just running along straight lines and fighting trainers with all the side-routes blocked off till you beat the kahuna. even the caves are really simple and linear so far.

I felt XY had a reasonable endgame with endless chateux battles but also maison because the latter gives you constantly challenging content.

BW2 sets the bar for content. (Don't forget this has festival plaza like join avenue too). It had the tree or whatever for leveled content but also tourneys and subway for level equalised stuff which always meant a challenge and I think that's important. I never finished all the ORAS endgame and still only got 3/6 super cups. That was the bit that kept me going longest except pvp and the dex so hopefully there's something I can't out level in this gen too.

Either nintendo are lying or don't worry. Not sure why I got an australian page though. Z moves are a bit meh but if they're a niche that's sometimes worth using or another decision for us to make they add another meaningful decision to team building and tactics which is what megas did. And that's what matters,

If they did remove megas it'd hardly be a wasted gen because it was fun but I hope they've stayed because I liked the extra decision it added.

So I decided to try out wonder trade for the first time knowing full well the rants about the function but I was thinking maybe people would be fast trading their breeded pokemon with interesting natures as well. Nope. I put up a female Salandit with timid nature and got a sassy Yungoos. You're a real legend kid. I'll stick with GTS.

I ended up breeding a bunch of Salandits last night just so I could get a Female one with a Heal Ball to match Salazzle's color scheme. If I was further in the game I think I would have gone with the Love Ball instead but both are fine.

I hope you're right. the battle tower would be such a chore otherwise.

when x and y came out and they made it easy to breed pokemon, people were handing out some crazy shit on wonder trade. I would get some route 1 bullshit too but most of it was 3-5 iv leftovers, I got a lot of my hidden ability pokemon that way. of course over time that started to fade and by the time ORAS came out people were mostly giving out garbage. so far that's exclusively what I'm seeing with SunMoon's wonder trade (minus a yungoose holding a big nugget that was nice). I think it might be partly because they almost hide wonder trade from you in this game. I didnt realize you could do it until I had been fucking around in the poke festival thing for a while.

speaking of which that pokefestival shit is great, you can have six lotteries running at once. it's great that you can just buy other people's poke festival stalls. I've already won four bottlecaps, a pp max, and a big nugget, among other crap. no master ball yet though.

Basically, yeah, you get a monster with the right nature, moves and ability but only 3 perfect IVs and trade it just because you get FC for it. And maybe it's better than what the other person had before or it'll help them breed, though odds are either they don't care or have better.

Because we haven't all got our box of dittos and breeding studs back it's just route 1 trash now. But it's still FC and lottery tickets.

I think because so many megas were game defining game freak decided it was easier to remove them than to implement counters that were decent without being OP. Mega khan, mega mawile etc. I'm not sure if bruxish and tsareena will be enough but I noticed they've dampened priority this time around.

Also Golisopod looks based but of the two new water/bugs I think it'll see less play at the very top. Entrainment water bubble seems too good. Imagine a high powered scarfed monster switching into that in doubles and surfing the opposition out of existence. Or greninja with specs on, as it already has the speed, surfing the entire world away.

I've got a hasty ash greninja and this thing is almost too good. every tournament is gonna be filled with these bastards. once it kills a single pokemon, it gets legendary-like stats that dont go away even if you switch. bottlecaps are so easy to get if you abuse the festival plaza so you can max out any event pokemon like that easily. you just gotta reset for nature. I've actually got four lotteries going in there now lololol. gonna max out my fire-red team for old time's sake once pokebank is up.

go to the pokemon summary and press Y. it shows a similar chart to the one from super training, except the stat sparkles a bit when it's maxed out.

I think they want you to spend a few weeks using Z moves exclusively to get us used to em while you unlock the mega stones you want. honestly though they're not that interesting. mechanically it's just a buffed version of the gems from black and white, except you only get one per battle and there's a fancy animation to go along with it. if you're wearing aviator shades the z poses look hilariously douchey though.
Ruin Maniac Cedric - Mon, 28 Nov 2016 17:50:02 EST T8dU1B7U No.228744 Reply
Greninja was good last gen and a top tier singles monster, but struggled in doubles where it was mediocre. I think this means it'll be competitive in doubles and ridiculous in singles. Making sure you have an answer to it will be important.

at least it's constantly dark type unlike the protean version, so golisopod can one shot it easily with first impression. it's even +2 priority so greninja cant even get some chip damage in with water shuriken before it dies.

Haha true.

I'm not sure what golisopod will do though. I mean it's tanky and gets leech life, but it's ability gives it free uses of first impression. I am confident Araquanid will find a comfy spot in the meta, maybe two. But Golisopod could be great at several things or just end up second rate at them all. It's wonderfully bulky though and it's typing is pretty good offensively and defensively.

Also pokepelago is both secretly useful and possibly hugely plot related.

they do mention the guy in the underground aether labs. his hair looks a lot like gladion's too, and technically his goal of making an island for pokemon is the same thing as aether. I imagine there's other stuff I didn't pick up on too.

Spoiler, mostly conjecture but some spoilage:

His hair is the same colour as Lillie's. Her mum founded aether to do exactly what he happens to be doing but he's probably suffering amnesia and doesn't realise he has a family including a now clearly unhinged wife. I dunno if Gladion is related but I suspect they are
I only just landed back at aether now so I've not had my suspicions confirmed but the only thing to surprise me was the 3rd Kahuna and I knew he was hiding something. Pokemon games rarely make it super hard to see the twists coming.

Rocket Executive Hedda - Fri, 02 Dec 2016 22:28:43 EST Q2p2UuGP No.228760 Reply
I kept accidentally withdrawing points.

Oh well. Depends how easy points are to win. I won singles doubles and triples cups within 2 months on ORAS and that would net me about half the required points. 3 50 win streaks. They removed triples this gen I think though because it's ridiculously easy to cheese it with a rain team or something like. I was running ludicolo, politoed and heliolisk as leads with talonflame, mega khan and terrakion in case shit got real and I did a 50 win streak first attempt on super. Weather teams in general break triples because instead of one monster buffing itself a bit and supporting another, you get one supporter giving 2 monsters who are set up to benefit from it insane boosts. 2 swift swimmers or a swift swimmer and other fast heavy hitter and you can just surf spam the shit out of everything. Heliolisk's dry skin meant that if it didn't get one shot it tended to bounce pretty fucking fast and rain healed the life orb recoil. It wouldn't be too hard to rack up those points with a setup like that. If you've got the OP monsters sitting in bank you just have to run a couple of good streaks.

With a miniboss every 10 rounds I'm curious will supers be 2 per battle going up 1 every 10 rounds? Will the bosses give additional bonuses? Will there be big bosses worth shit loads of points?

Without triples, doubles is harder to lose due to fluke but singles is quicker to play an individual match and quicker to get a streak going. However the best easy points singles team is probably still going to be dragonite/mega khan + something else. Suicune is apparently good but I found talonflame and latios more reliable.

don't forget the opponents have megas and z moves now. they even have megas you dont have access too. they've started switching out too. it's gonna be much harder to cheese it in general. kangaskhan is still gonna be mandatory though. even with the slight nerf to her ability.

I think they just took those and rotation out because the battle engine is laggier now. they got rid of 3D for single battles and double battles lag as much as a particularly complicated triple battle in gen 6. They didn't even bother enabling the N3DS's extra ram. god damn game freak are shitty coders. look at how smooth smash bros and mario kart run on a regular 3ds, that shit is impressive to look at and runs at 60fps with the 3D on.

Checked it's stats. My opinion is it's not fast enough to stack speed. Go modest and EV for HP and Special attack. Slap specs on and bring buttdevastation to everything.

Maybe timid scarf will work. 65 speed is really crappy as it's not great for trick rooms either but it's bulky as fuck with a great typing so I reckon max hp and special attack will make it very effective. It's got 115 in both defenses and 85 base hp, the closest thing to recover it has with pain split so you could go avoid the HP and use pain split + it's high defenses instead.

Assuming you can ever use it for anything.

Regarding synchronize it has been discussed and I just tried it out where your first party member's nature determines synchronized nature.

I had an Adamant Pancham as my first and I sent him out against a wild Beldum. I then switched him out with Umbreon (calm) and lowered Beldum's health until he S.O.S'd. After getting rid of the first Beldum I then switched Umbreon out with Whimsicott for stun sporing and then proceeded to catch him. The nature ended up being Adamant. Its still 50/50 though because the first Beldum I caught was Calm.

Apparently 50 minutes after it was created it will give a gold cap. And it cycles. I will come back the same time tomorrow and wait 5 minutes. At this point it's 28 (50 minute) cycles and 45 minutes and I should get a gold. Whether that fails or not I can re hire the stand. It's 100FC for me too. Though I'll need to spend time farming events to get a load. Still if that works I can get golds if I'm willing to wait 45 minutes. A handful of golds would turn my breeding situation upside down and I'm seriously considering throwing one at a ditto. I think even after pokebank it'll be really useful for rotom breeding and shit and but before it means I can breed a perfect team over christmas.

My final team ended up being Skarmory, Primarina, Whimsicott, Arcanine, Mudsdale and Solgaleo. Cap increases are superficial, they just make the stat "look" maxed. It does nothing to the actual IV, hidden power and breeding is unaffected by bottle caps. Just use the infinite ditto farm. I have a slew of 4IV ditto, three with imposter, and one shiny. Now just grinding BP for Destiny Knot and the power items.

>pokemon knowing only recycle, pop adrenaline orb
>switch to pokemon knowing switcheroo holding leppa
>false swipe
>muk w/ only memento, ghastly w/ only explosion(Mon with damp if hunting for imposter/shiny)
>spam adrenaline orbs and let 30 ditto kill themselves
>switch in false swiper when call for help fails
>kill original ditto when ready, catch 4IV
>repeat till all stats are covered
Once the muk or ghastly is in its basically just mash a for 20-30 minutes.

I love how Kukui is literally Poke Ric Flair with his "WOOO" and "To be the man you gotta beat the man." Who knew GF was a bunch of marks?

Ah the infinite ditto farm. I might have to do that. I'm missing a few details. Do you keep switching in the recycler and popping orbs or do you just buy 100 or something? (They are cheap)

I have a bunchof 2 and 3 iv dittos in gen 6 but they're out of reach right now.

I'm presently catching legendaries using my synchers and will probably bother breeding a proper team after bank goes live. I want my living dex so I'll have to play the game once more to keep both solgaleo's pre forms and both type:Null and silvally. Null's probably better anyway because Silvally has 95 in every stat whereas Null has the same stats except 56 speed. Give it eviolite basically and laugh.

Grinding EVs is easy, hell if you're running around doing other stuff you can max someone over a week with the pelago and with time to spare.

Once the original ditto knows recycle and has the leppa it will never struggle itself to death, the reason you can spam orbs is because you don't lose any after you use the first one. In the end you just exchange an orb and a leppa berry for a 4IV per chain.

SuMo introduced Hyper Training in which you can max out a pokemon IV's if it's at level 100. Bottle caps are objectively rare and come in silver or gold, silver increases one stat and gold increases all six.

Your technique worked. The setup took about 5 times as long as doing it but I can easily nab a few ditto (and I need a few) pretty easily and will do over the next few days I guess. Then I need to go get some easy BP for the destiny knot so I can breed a time to get an actual good quantity of BP.

My doubles team idea I was toying with is apparenttly not a unique idea. I'm still going with it. Building in some stuff to fuck with the oranguru/torkoal trick room that is going to be common in the new meta.

Oranguru is trash in singles but in doubles a bulky, slower than fast monsters faster than slow (ie it will move second most of the time), trick room setter with a move that makes the target repeat it's last move sounds like god to me. Also inner focus so it can't be flinched by fake out. I saw a smogon thread where they were like "another let down by game freak" no you idiots, it's just not designed for singles.

Yeah it's a bit of a bitch but totally worth it. At least it beats finding soneone with ditto in their friend safari. Now if only getting BP wasn't a giant pain, but I guess it's something to do till bank opens.

Did anyone else get a stoner vibe from Mina or am I just seeing what I wanna see?

She's blazed AF. But seriously, if there's a stoner on the entire Alola archipelago outside team Juggalo it's basically her.

Also yeah. Though I have a box of dittos because I got lucky in our friend safari thread and got the dude with dittos before he got swamped and vanished. The best thing is the 5iv stud army but the dittos will always be useful for breeding shit like rotom that doesn't breed with partners that aren't ditto. Rotom is pretty damn useful too.

I think I've got 5iv males in most egg groups now but possibly not all so I'm getting those rotoms, plus bank will be delayed until February. No evidence just a hunch tells me that.

I mean yeah it's not difficult to find someone with a ditto safari but friend codes are stupid, you don't have to rely on anyone else to get good dittos in SuMo just sweet sweet mechanic abuse.

Just got this little devil from the poke pelago when I dropped in 18 eggs before work. Probably took me about six boxes worth of eggs using just the MM. Thus far I've had one random encounter shiny haunter, one SOS shiny ditto, and the MM litten so hopefully my shiny luck can continue.

Okay so I've caught 7 dittos so far with 4 ivs and none have perfect special attack. Fuck.

Still I'll be able to give some to my friends I guess. Also with the ease of breeding as I've got a bunch of 5 iv fathers in the bank anyway will be the following:

>Stuff that only breeds with dittos
>Shinies being viable
>Starting/playthrough pokemon

Though the last 2 are nature dependent. I have a shiny modest ivysaur in ORAS. I might tutor it giga drain, move it to sun, EV it and level it and make it perfect and then actually have a useable mega venusaur shiny. Fucking A.

Also I am looking forward to polishing my heatran, landorius, latios etc. Not found any shinies yet. Once I've got my dittos I guess I'll get the knot and start working out what nature/spread my weather setter will be before I breed it. Oh and catching ultra beasts. I'm starting to put together a VCG17 compliant doubles team in my head. Though I've got the terrain setter and abuser already.

Shiny Politoed is gosh darn beautiful, but the shiny poliwag I have has damp which seems pretty darn useless. Really, its not great for either a poliwrath or a politoed I just really want a drizzle politoed haha. I might just get an ability switch capsule thing, give it water absorb at least, and then have a bulky green poliwrath.

Or say fuck it and make it a politoed and bask in its purple glory.

Ended up running into my 2nd shiny so far, shiny Murkrow. I wanted to catch it in a normal pokeball because I'm not big on ball themes but I ran out and ended up just using the master ball w/e. The disappointing thing about shiny Pokemon though is you can almost never use them due to the sheer disadvantage natures puts them in and if their hidden ability is miles better.

Welp, back to hunting Jangmo-o.

Sucks because they're both good. Also buzzwole/pheramosa. Buzzwole is physically bulky but slow and specially weak while pheramosa is frail as fuck but at least she's fast enough to land blows.

I've been pretty good financially this year so I don't feel bad that I bought both games. Also I want a living pokedex for generations to come and would otherwise need to reset for cosmog and cosmoem (and a spare solgaleo to trade) and type:null and Sivally. So I thought fuck it. My sun playthrough now has built up festival plaza, tonnes of stored tickets and a well developed island and even a few BP. Moon is still mid playthrough. I didn't want to have to reset the stash of items, BP, berries and developments I will have spent 2 months building before bank comes out and I can even save the pokemon so fuck it.

Let me guess, Captain Danky-Dank's challenge is like Accerola's one, except you have to dive through fanart to find stuff that is of good quality (well drawn and composed) and of trainers. Instead of pokemon the hazards are
>poorly drawn art
>really disgusting art
>anthro pokemon
>all of the above

The totem battle is that you accidentally find a stash of pictures in which the trainers have not been aged up but are still sexualised and you have to resist ripping your eyes out and deal with the fact that the ally it calls has a tiny chance to be a party van if you haven't equipped a proxy, if that happens the only moves which do anything are insisting it was an accident and using the microwave on your hard drive.

>Sexium-Z earned

So I ended up getting a Celesteela. I wanted to attempt my first capture of a pokemon with a hidden ability so I choose Mareanie with Regenerator. I ended up catching it but it was male which I'm one of those freaks that prefer certain genders on pokemon so I decided to try and trade it on GTS for a Celesteela and the trade was a success. I hope that person got what they wanted because Toxapex is a beast and the one I traded was also Bold nature. I also went back and caught another that was female with the same ability and nature so all went fucking well.

Now I'm playing the swapping game where I swap Celesteela for Celesteela over GTS in hopes I get one with a nature I want.

You know you could have bred it with a 70% chance to pass the HA on? So you just breed a few and one will be the right gender and have the ability. If you shove a high IV ditto in there potentially it's stronger.

A little late but still relevant. As someone who had the notion that breeding was hard, I just didn't want to get into the whole breeding scene until I realized how long getting to level 100 really takes in S/M. Gamefreak gave us Hyper Training which in theory was amazing even the cost of one bottle cap was acceptable, it required a little bit of a fishing grind but it was still a great alternative... but then they gave us no solid way to train to level 100 while all of the game content sets you at level 50.

After that realization I began to delve into breeding recently and attempt it with the end result being lots of fun and now I have a new respect for it. I first acquired an Adamant Sharpedo with Speed Boost and then chained for 4-IV ditos using the Smeargle/Recycle & Switcharoo method. After breeding them together (with destiny knot/everstone of course) and switching out generations here and there I hit something to my liking. Picture related.

Breeding requires set up time, last gen you had to get a bunch of 2iv dittos so it was still fairly (though not extremely) time consuming until you had quite a few 5 or 6 iv males you could use as "studs" for one or two egg groups each.

This gen the set up time is a bit longer but those 4iv dittos make it even quicker to get your first few perfect monsters.

However once you've got a whole bunch of 5iv males remember that these breed even better than dittos. Also yeah, never hard just time consuming.

One more thing, well two. First of all remember to keep 0 speed iv stuff for trick room abusers. Second, for special attackers a lower attack stat is good because it lowers confusing and foul play damage.

Why do you want a perfect attack stat?

Surely 5 with garbage attack would be better? It has garbage attack and all a perfect attack iv means is more confusion and foul play damage (well maybe it boosts play rough but that's also bad because you only use that move on your own terrakion anyway, less damage is better because you're just trying to trigger justified)

And you can hyper train her for a perfect HP stat too.

I'm presently leveling a venusaur I caught in the friend safari in XY to level 100 as it was modest and I taught it giga drain in ORAS....

I like that shinies can be competitively viable in gen 7. I mean if you go hunting you need to synchronise or have the right nature with breeding but the rest can be fixed.

Thanks guys. I had no idea hyper training increased the IVs, I thought it just super boosted the EV stats. This is game changing because now I can level up and then upgrade my 4IV Ditto and make breeding faster. If I never see another Salandit egg ever again it will be too soon.

Unfortunately hyper training makes the IV higher but this does not affect the "genetics" so don't bother with your ditto.

On the bright side when you've bred a few perfect monsters you'll have a stable of 5and 6 iv males, many straddling egg groups. Hyper training is just there for shinies and legendaries. Also getting 100 is a pain. Past about 80 the quickest way I can find to level is using the isle evelup so it just requires a lot of patience.

Damn, I figured it probably wouldn't be that easy. But as you mentioned at least it makes shinies viable. I could never get into using legendaries and ultra beasts though. They're more like trophies than battlers to me.

Having a wide breeding selection is really nice. I've allocated a few boxes for my breeders which I use to have a selection of different pokeballs and specific natures and abilities and for if I need to pass moves on down the line. I really like what they did with the move remembering system in Gen 7 where they can learn all the moves of their different evolutions. It makes it so much easier to build them once they're bred.
Arcade Star Phyllis - Tue, 07 Feb 2017 13:29:43 EST XPXVPxrU No.228888 Reply
I love my legal legendaries. Last season you needed terrakion or landorius really because while other monsters could counter mega khan (who centralised the whole meta) none did so without being useless for anything else. These guys justified a spot on your team even without mega mom.

I've found legendaries are often clutch as fuck but most of the battlespot legal ones are not team centrepieces.

Meanwhile UBs are the opposite. Some are broken but celesteela aside (I'm still not 100% sure it's better than ferrothorn in every way but I need to field test it properly) most are extremely powerful but brittle and need support. Xurkitree for example has 173 base special attack and beast boost, but average defenses and moderate speed. It needs to be protected and/or given speed support to sweep. Pheramosa is frail as fuck and karana and nihilego are reasonably bulky on one side but frail as fuck on the other. Kartana at least has a good defensive typing nihilego does does not and if you even say "earthquake" its focus sash breaks and it faints.

The exception to what I said about legendaries is that the tapu's field setting moves are a big deal. Especially in doubles. That said I'm looking forward to using modest tapu lele in singles. It'll probably do a better job (not quite as fast but not timid anyway, more special attack though) than my modest specs hydreigon did last season though the question is whether to use specs or psychium Z as one gives me more reusability but the other lets me stay in and switch moves.

If you don't want to use legendaries in doubles I'm guessing torkoal +a chlorophyl user or torkoal + trick room oranguru + tsareena is probably not a bad way to go.

I thought it was really strange that they made most of the UBs weak to fire, so then I figured it was to make sure that they won't be abused in comp. I'm not ready to play on that level yet because I'm still building gimmick teams and getting used to the battle systems, then pick the best out of those to fill my final battle teams. If the meta is going to require UBs then I'll have to start thinking of training a few for practice. I'm liking Nihilego and Pheromosa but I have a sneaking suspicion that Celesteela is going to be seeing some screen time with that insane Defense stat.

Are megas still viable or is it all about the Z-moves now? I imagine they play a huge role now because of their power so as I spec moves I'm trying to keep in mind that I may have to use Z-moves eventually and also throw in a Protect move here and there to cut damage. Using and fighting against the Tapus also looks like it's going to need some planning for, especially Tapu Lele. Some of those terrain changing moves look like they're going to be a pain to deal with because you can't inflict statuses on the relevant Tapu while they're active. I've taken a real liking to the weather changing moves and have most of the Pokemon and moves centered around Harsh Sunlight and Hail in two of my teams.

Some of those abilities that capitalise on weather conditions and affect hit rates or charge times on big moves like Blizzard or Solar Beam are really cool. The Froslass I have planned is basically going to be a Blizzard cannon once she's set up in a match. I forgot that Drought was a weather inducing ability and that will make a really nice combo with my Sunshine team for doubles games, thanks for that advice.
Camper Wesley - Wed, 08 Feb 2017 13:30:47 EST XPXVPxrU No.228890 Reply
I don't think you'll NEED any one monster but legendaries and UBs are both options which bring a lot to the table. The tapus will bring a lot to the team but also self support while the beasts will need a lot more hand holding but can yield more.

Celesteela has great defenses and great attacks, it has the movepool to abuse both. You can EV and nature it so it gains attack boosts on KO or boosts one of it's defenses. It learns leech seed and giga drain, can do earthquake and some fire coverage and it's main STAB heavy slam hits like a truck as it's 120bp on most of the game and it's typing is superb. It's going to be a top 10 monster this generation all generation long. It's not unbeatable though, it's not as bulky as the likes of ferrothorn so it can be one hit by a few things, it's not particularly fast or particularly slow so it can be worn down or crippled with burns and it's attack stats while solid are not outstanding.

I see nihilego as being viable for an offensive hazard setter, but otherwise solid but outclasses. Pheramosa is super fast but I think needs a sash or a a lot of support or else even neutral priority moves can KO it. I mean azumarill will have no trouble taking it down with aqua jet, talonflame is still around etc. Might pair well with tapu lele as per your image. That's also probably another meta as fuck core.

I always felt like fire is a mediocre attack type on paper but just hits so many otherwise really hard to harm things hard and ends up being mandatory on every team with any element of offense.

They added new weather setters this gen for every weather. Alola ninetales wants a word with frosslass. Coming back to the tapus I think field effects will matter now too. They each block some statuses and have other effects. Psychic terrain doesn't stop status but prevents priority. Misty terrain stops all statuses but doesn't boost attacks, it just cripples dragon moves. Which sucks when the setter is fairy tbh.

I'm thinking drizzle pelipper plus tapu koko + thunder with a life orb KO's a lot of shit. Pelipper can run ice beam and a 100% accurate hurricane and a boosted hydro pump as well so the offensive synergy is there. Throw in a marowak as cover for pelipper (though it will redirect tapu's moves) and a celesteela because it pairs well with marowak. I'm still chewing over my last couple of picks. Terrakion plus hydreigon feels like a good couple of final choices though that leaves me light on support moves or at least a taunt... Terrakion brings fighting and rock type STAB and high speed, hydreigon has a useful defensive typing but it's dark pulse aside I wonder if the coverage it brings is great for what is an offensive monster. I suppose Z draco metoor plus one coverage move or maybe even taunt.
