There's a reason pokemon aren't real dammit. And its cause science hasn't come far enough yet . I mean living in the world of pokemon seems rough. If you don't have a pokemon just wandering into some high grass is enough for a monster to jump out and attack you. That's not cool. I imagine that a pokemon can kill a person easily.

I like some of these more than others. I am a believer that "more realistic" should mean "more like the creature it's inspired by" not just "gnarlier".

That tentacruel is badass.

Repels will help a lot. Failing that walk talland carry some big pokemon. Even the most frightening sea monsters are pretty untimidating if you can give it a 10000 Amp enema or hit it 4 foot by 3 foot inch thick chunks of "leaf".

This is more or less true in today's Earth. Humans are good at controlling their neighboring environment in any circumstance. Animal attacks are still common. Pokemon are just animals of a certain clade (descent from common ancestor - Mew in this case with Arceus and Mewtwo exceptioned). Many Pokemon abilities are already present to milder degrees within the animal kingdom already. Give an animal that has managed to concentrate these abilities into a cohesive whole and pass these traits onto its children. Given the new opening of niches that would result, its descendents would outcompete and eventually exterminate other animals across the countryside until Mew-descendants become the predominant form of animal on Earth. Such dramatic radiations (archosaur evolution in the late triassic and early mammalian evolution in the eocene comes to mind) are not unheard of in the past, though it would take tens of millions of years for the process to complete. Exceptionally unlikely, but not impossible. Animals of Pokemon size and stature were common on the land just 40-50mya. Predatory sea creatures of enormous size stalked the oceans depths in the Cretaceous. There's nothing stopping animals from evolving to such sizes, only a matter of selective pressure.
