The "SwSh are good games despite the internet telling you otherwise" thread

I haven't been around any Pokemon community in the time since these games came out. When I saw the tweets about how Game Freak "fucked the game up" by cutting Pokemon and MuH AnImAtIoNs, I cringed beyond belief. This is the kind of shit that makes me hate being a part of any video game fandom. If it plays good, who gives a fuck what it looks like (EX: literally any classic arcade game)
All this to say, this has been the most fun I've had with a Pokemon game since Gen 4. It's also the first game I actually FINISHED since Gen 4, since no other Gen could hold my attention like this one. The story isn't great, but its Pokemon. The story has never been Shakespearean (regardless of what everyone wants to tell you about BW.) I'm absolutely ok with them cutting half the Pokemon. Nobody cares about the new ones BECAUSE they let you have the other 700+ that you liked before. It also just made me care more about my old favorites that WERE in the game just that much more. SwSh was fun, and anyone on the fence about it, stop reading the negative rhetoric around it. They're Pokemon games. If you liked them before, you will like this one. Everyone who hates it made up their mind months before the game came out.
This is now the thread to discuss all the great things about this Gen that everyone wants to gloss over when deciding that Gamefreak bought a review from IGN.

I do like the ability to swap pokemon while away from the Pokecenter pc.
Starting with a fishing pole is nice as well along with the exp share being added without finding it yourself.

Ehhhhhhh. Honestly, I'd give SwSh a 7.5/10. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either. It's literally just about what you could expect from a Pokemon game.

>If it plays good, who gives a fuck what it looks like (EX: literally any classic arcade game)

I respect what you're saying, but in all fairness, there were a few criticisms that were pretty valid. It plays like every single other Pokemon game.

Even though I finished the E4, I still haven't messed around with the breeding mechanics. I hear GF made it a lot easier, even EV/IV training. Whenever i do log on, I usually try to raid for Gmax Pokemon that I don't have.

I feel like it is a "beginner" type game meant to make it accessable for people (kids) who haven't played before. By making the Pokedex limited you don't need any previous games or knowledge to do well in the game. I think this game is meant to setup players for future games, all designed around Pokemon home.

I think they'll start making smaller, more episodic type games that only allow a subset of the complete Pokedex. They'd be more like DLC for Pokemon home instead of a true mainline game.

More hardcore fans want a fully featured mainline game that doesn't do a lot of handholding. I for one want a game that's more rpg like, like a dragon quest type game set in the Pokemon universe

Is there really nothing Irish in Pokemon? You'd think a Leprechaun would be a llay-up

Well there you go I guess, Ireland dlc confirmed

Personally im more than a little pissed, the game was just so empty, doing dlc instead of a third version just means we get two more empty zones with 1 hour of content each and theyll never flesh out any of the half finished or outright abandoned threads left dangling in the main game

I just even make myself care about Pokemon games anymore, s/s will be for sure the last time I spend money on them

Actually, the Isle of Armour is more likely based on the Isle of Man.
It's a small, sparsely populated island between Great Britain and Ireland.
The Crown Tundra is probably based on the Scottish Highlands.

Sadly no Ireland representation yet, but what they revealed yesterday still looks neat.

I haven't played it, but kudos to you OP. I feel you.

The thing is, fuck the internet. No one on the internet has every actually liked a video game ever. Video games are like Star Wars, the "fans" whole identity is based on screaming about how much they hate it.

And it's refreshing to see someone not apologizing for enjoying what they enjoy. SLAYER m8

Im still holding fire.

I think if they don't keep all the monsters in and let us have them again they can go fuck themselves. For competitive formats sure ban exclusive monsters and only allow stuff as it becomes available for current gen players but with the ability to release DLC it's not hard to slowly trickle monsters and regions in. If they want to keep things simple they can always rotate a bunch of monsters in and out every half gen (so when they release SHINING SWORD and STURDY SHIELD or whatever).

Single player is a fun diversion but the most fun I've had is playing other people or battling the AI on post game challenges where I have to outplay a person, or make a team which is strong enough to consistently win even in the face of RNG and thousands of possible team combos.

Introducing a new gimmick every gen then erasing it sort of sucks though.

You lost, get over it.

The 'Dex update is free. What they're selling is the areas where you catch the Pokemon.

Everybody lost from the beginning because the game is bad and the dex isn't even close to the biggest reason why

Lol this. I stopped playing after two weeks of beating it. The game felt average as fuck.
