definitely feel like the kraken made the most out of their awful draft year, definitely felt like tanev and giordano were both solid banks for team leadership positions but also equally valuable on the trade block for teams interested in cup runs

i'm really excited to see the next couple of years of growth their org has, i hope they get a freak like the ducks did with teemu

They didn't draft well and teams didn't want to do trades with them after how successful Vegas was in their first season. I think there's growth potential for the Kraken and I'm sure they'll be contenders in the next couple of years.

i was excited they got a trade for gio at least because i really felt like he had a lot of value and if no one pushed for him at the deadline i would've been really surprised. i'm hoping by 2025 the west coast has sustainable, competitive hockey for both divisions and honestly i'd even take a sharks cup at this point if it made me get the warm feeling in my stomach that half those rosters weren't content staring at their laces all game

Comparing Athletes of Different Eras

I want to look at the way people pose the question of how players from different eras stack up against each other. The what-ifs like how would Michael Jordan do in today's NBA? I think this question goes beyond skill and what they accomplished. The fact that pulling someone out of their world would have ramifications that are hard to quantify.

I'm just wondering about the logistics of taking someone from a time and place then dropping them where you see fit. It wouldn't just change the people they are playing against but their ENTIRE life. Everyone they ever knew is back in the place they left (coaches, family , ect). That would have to have huge ramifications on their game.

I'm assuming that when people conceive this thought experiment it's like a Battleworld type situation where the athletes in question are transported to a neutral playing field from wherever they might be in time/space when they "plucked" them out. Then not only would skill be a factor but more so versatility and mental fortitude to adjust to this life changing phenomena.

When you think about these scenarios are the players plucked out at their prime and made to play against the people you want to compare them too? Or do they grow up in the era that you try to place them with their innate attributes? Theoretically at that point they could grow to become a different person who doesn't even like sports at all.

Guess MLB's back on, with an April 14th start date and a full 162 games. Biggest changes I saw were a draft lottery, increased minimum salary (not sure how much players compromised on that), no runners on second base to begin extra innings, and an expanded playoffs with 12 teams.

How the hell is Ayumu Hirano's 2nd run only a 91? Should have been at least a 95.

Nvm he got a 96 on his final run, definitely deserves gold. Also happy trails to Shaun White and his retirement from the Olympics.

I think its stupid. Players will throw games. People will make money. Nothing is regulated. If you legally place a bet its like buying a scratch ticket now. Betting will be more corrupt than when it was illegal. I hate to say it, debate me if you think I'm wrong.

Yeah and the penalties for sports gambling, especially trying to influence the outcome, are pretty severe for the pro leagues and would deter players, coaches, GMs, referees and vice versa from even attempting to do it.

We've had legalised gambling in Australia for yonks and I can't think of any controversy with afl match fixing, when it's our biggest sport. That being said, it's a big team game so it could be hard to throw unless the rest of your team is in with it.

I'm from France, and I've been to Illinois and North Dakota a bunch of times as an exchange student. I don't why Chief and Sioux was removed. There's plenty of racism from other sports teams, why target these one? I see nothing wrong with Illinois' spirit being represented like this. Nor do I see an issue with a victory symbol that was named by the native tribe in North Dakota 'Sioux' as an 'abusive' symbol. After all, the people of Illinois were only honoring the tribe their state was named after. The Illiniwek. And the Lakotah gave the symbol and name to UND 'Sioux'.

Stolen valor, cultural appropriation. It's just kind of weird to put an indigenous face on a sport invented by white people. There is nothing at all about football that actually represents sioux culture. Also holocaust.

Usually with these kinds of controversies it really just represents a desire for indigenous people to be self-determining, and self-representing in society. That is very hard to do when people are constantly stealing your symbols and representing you without permission.

Add lousy commissioner's to the list of reasons. From tinkering with their respective sports' rules and playoffs, to making baffling disciplinary decisions, to being Gary Bettman, all of the big 4 commissioner's have done their share to make people rather stay home than shell out money to the team owner's who keep these stuffed suits in place.

Personally it's why I prefer Division 1 power five FB games: good tickets are like $60-$120 and it I feel like some of the players care. Parking depends and safety is a deal that no one is talking about.
>or lack of discipline
All-in-all I think college sports, are better for the enthusiasm but the talent is far below.
