Comparing Athletes of Different Eras View Thread Reply Hide John Fandlesan - Thu, 31 Mar 2022 03:42:45 EST Gc7Elh1J No.33637 File: 1648712565567.jpg -(72897B / 71.19KB, 957x536) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size. I want to look at the way people pose the question of how players from different eras stack up against each other. The what-ifs like how would Michael Jordan do in today's NBA? I think this question goes beyond skill and what they accomplished. The fact that pulling someone out of their world would have ramifications that are hard to quantify.I'm just wondering about the logistics of taking someone from a time and place then dropping them where you see fit. It wouldn't just change the people they are playing against but their ENTIRE life. Everyone they ever knew is back in the place they left (coaches, family , ect). That would have to have huge ramifications on their game.I'm assuming that when people conceive this thought experiment it's like a Battleworld type situation where the athletes in question are transported to a neutral playing field from wherever they might be in time/space when they "plucked" them out. Then not only would skill be a factor but more so versatility and mental fortitude to adjust to this life changing phenomena. When you think about these scenarios are the players plucked out at their prime and made to play against the people you want to compare them too? Or do they grow up in the era that you try to place them with their innate attributes? Theoretically at that point they could grow to become a different person who doesn't even like sports at all.

I'm from France, and I've been to Illinois and North Dakota a bunch of times as an exchange student. I don't why Chief and Sioux was removed. There's plenty of racism from other sports teams, why target these one? I see nothing wrong with Illinois' spirit being represented like this. Nor do I see an issue with a victory symbol that was named by the native tribe in North Dakota 'Sioux' as an 'abusive' symbol. After all, the people of Illinois were only honoring the tribe their state was named after. The Illiniwek. And the Lakotah gave the symbol and name to UND 'Sioux'. >> Martha Claystone - Sun, 13 Dec 2020 17:06:11 EST kSLfUc8Y No.33433 Reply 1607897171298.jpg -(467663B / 456.70KB, 1186x1747) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size. >>33432Fighting over Sioux Documentary came out last month about this. It's just kind of weird to put an indigenous face on a sport invented by white people. There is nothing at all about football that actually represents sioux culture. Also holocaust.Usually with these kinds of controversies it really just represents a desire for indigenous people to be self-determining, and self-representing in society. That is very hard to do when people are constantly stealing your symbols and representing you without permission.
