I grew a beard. I have thin hair and it's always been a bit patchy but I thought I'd just go full on see what happens mode.

Well, it grew bigger than I expected, but it's still ... less "manly mountain man" and more "I have given up on life"

i see a barber who just gives me a #2 beard faded up to like a 4/5 on top. i shave my neck every 2-3 days. thats about it.

Try a little trim! Girls get their tips trimmed to help their hair stay healthy and grow more, I don't see why the same wouldn't work for a beard.

Just either go to a pro or browse a couple YouTube tutorials before you try it yourself. It sounds like your beard can't afford a fuckup.

What about At-Home Electric Trimmers??

I wanna measure and maintain accordingly. Something with a few attachments or combs would be ideal although I really just want an even clean lookin trim of stubble all around until I’ve learned more.


What trimmers you gents keep?

I can totally recommend a trimmer. Just get a reasonably priced one from a decent brand. Pic is what I got, it's from Phillips, it has several fixed attachments, and one that's adjustable. Also two for nosehair and something else (I don't use those).

Make sure you get one with sturdy attachments though. My first trimmer just had the one which could be adjusted for length, most of the teeth broke so it's useless now.

And you might want to try still going clean shaven on just your neck, I think it looks pretty neat.

I have a personal trimmer that I cut my own hair and groom my facial hair with. I'll usually do a #2 over my entire "ear-down" area (back of the head, sides, and all facial hair) if I'm feeling adventurous I'll try to taper that to a slightly shorter length where my sideburns are. I always shave my neck line, right under my nose, and I shave a curve shape into my cheeks' beard so it looks symmetrical. The main pitfall I noticed in beard grooming is in fact wispiness or patchiness. Basically you want to clean shave all the stray hairs that aren't in your ideal beard and then maintain that shape for a nice skin to beard contrast.
