Ophiocordyceps sinensis is a fungus found in Asia. The fungus overwinters in soil. In order to complete its life cycle, it parasitizes ghost moth larvae, and no other larvae, which crawl through the soil. Once it takes over it's host, it makes the caterpillar emerge to the surface, and stick its neck up, before the fruiting body grows out of the caterpillar's head.

These infested caterpillars are worth several days wages in Nepal where they are found. A pound sold for $50,000 in 2012. Chinese medicine say's its amazing, and people are willing to pay for it.

evolution being a blind process, that merely snuggles its way into a fitting way of using the environment, the most common protein of earth this far is
RuBisCO. it is such a fundamental component to the life forms on this planet that there are tons of adaptationss and modification around its function but there are no plant like organisms -afaik- that can work around that bottleneck. it functions comparatively terrible under higher temperature so nature makes up for that by .... using more of it and putting into play a bunch of auxilliary tools

hemoglobine behaves in an almost analogues nature eventhough humans allready have the means to produce much more efficient oxygen carriers -designing a system within those would be useable is a different question

Nematodes. These lil' wiggly dudes. Four out of five individual animals alive today are nematodes. They live in and on you and fucking everything else. They have been found living in mines 3.6 km (12,000 ft) underground . Nematodes are very important organisms of study because they are some of the simplest animals. They are still incredibly complex.
Caenorhabditis elegans is the only animal to have it's neuronal system completely mapped. There are species of fungi that live out their entire life cycle inside its intestines.

IE sand.
But yes water cutters use abrasive to cut, it even works without it if you put something flimsy in there like wood or your finger.

Water cutting is one of the coolest manufacturing processes.

What's even cooler is femtosecond laser cutting.

Regular laser cutting works by heating the material all the way through so it first melt/burnss then evaporates.
Femtosecond Laser Cutting works by using laser pulses so short that the heat has no time to travel though the material because the atoms that get hit by a pulse are heated to such an extent that they move outside the cutting area once the next pulse arrive.
This makes it possible to produce incredible fine detail.

It's not super fancy really just clever use of fairly well established technology. The really clever bit is that if you have a compartment which is hot but out of oxygen you can punch in and use the mist to cool the compartment down (because all the water evapourates, and because it comes out as a fine mist it does so quickly) and so when you open it up, reintroduction of oxygen doesn't cause the fire to restart (as you've now removed another part of the "triangle")

Did you know there are bacteria (and archaea) that live inside rocks? Like if you cut a massive boulder in half, there's stuff living in there. Or if you dig the deepest hole anyone has ever dug, there's stuff living down there.

These weirdo organisms, that are probably uber common relative to surface life, spend a majority of their energy just living, which is in pretty striking contrast to most life we know that spends its energy growing and reproducing.

It's nice to know that even if we start a nuclear winter or catch the atmosphere on fire or whatever, plenty of life will survive and keep evolving.
