I've been thinking of getting a website of my own just for fun (not a chan, just for personal stuff and jokes and maybe later re-use the address+server for a lil mini-business thing), and to make an inside-joke abstract webNewspaper to make the day of some people I know. I've already checked that the address I want is free and not too expensive, but I've no idea where to go from there.
Is there any good collected page with info about just, how to run a website?
As far as I understand you would rather rent a small server-instance from some bigger company rather than selfhost and invite weird traffic to your home-network?
Also how hard would it be to set up my own mail-server on the site (is that even included when you buy an address)? Like, would it be a bad idea for a webstuff-noob like me that might misconfigure something or is it pretty straightforward (as long as you're not too daft to grok the manuals)?

This is bad, real bad.

Ubuntu tried with unity to provide a complete desktop experience with sensible default settings.
The global menu is a boon for anybody concerned about screen real-estate (13.3" laptops, etc...)
It has integration into things like cloud calendars, cloud storage, etc.
(some) touchpad & touchscreen gestures work right out of the box.
A consistent look and feel of applications that are part of the standard distribution (no ppas)
HiDPI scaling

If you want those features on for instance a Gnome desktop you can get them, but you basically have build your own configuration out of plugins and third party apps, which sucks balls.
FOSS software developers have a really questionable attitude when it comes to implementing default features and anything that works with proprietary systems. That was why Ubuntu/Unity was awesome, they didn't give a shit about the hypocritical "community" and just released stuff that works.
(ZFS on 16.04 is a another example, but unrelated)

Regardless of what else has happened, it's been nice with the Unity lovers coming out of the woodwork. Usually Linux people just talk about what they hate, not what they love.

At any rate, you should be fine. Gnome headerbars are just as space saving as global menu. We still don't know how Ubuntu will tweak gnome, but there's been global menu for gnome3 before, and it wouldn't take a lot for Canonical to do it again. Finally, if all else fails, the Unity devs haven't just dropped dead, they're committed to forking it.

I spent 9 hours straight playing a game and my screen started doing this. I have never seen this before, and my PC was not very stressed during those 9 hours so I am really just guessing here. Is this the end? I'm going to replace the video cable and if that doesn't fix it, I am just going to assume it is going to cost me more than $100 and I'll not bother fixing this old thing.

I suppose I should try out a different driver if the cable doesn't change anything?
This is the most severe case, by the way. It is not ALWAYS this bad, but it does get pretty bad at times.

Hey guys, I'm a brother from /psy/, first post here.

I bought myself a custom built PC second hand for a fairly good price and the fans keep running at full speed ALL THE FUCKING TIME, non-stop, FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON.

I tried disabling in the device manager one of my graphic cards (the Intel HD Graphics 4600 that came with the mother board) to keep only the Nvidia GeForce GTX 970, but that didn't change anything.

I really don't know what to do and it's driving me crazy.

Plz halp?

Here are some specs in case it helps:
Windows 10 Home
Processor: Intel Core i7-4790 quad core, 8 threads 3.60GHz
RAM: 16gb
Graphic card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 by Gigabyte
Power supply: Thermaltake TR2 600W

Alright boys and gals, I found out what the problem was. Or maybe part of the problem. So I installed SpeedFan and it lets me control the speed of three internal fans (motherboard, GPU and one other, I think). But I still have 6 other fans on the computer case. These, on the other hand, are not controllable via my BIOS. So I'll need to install an external hardware controller that I'll install on my case. That was my conclusion yesterday and Gigabyte said the same thing in their response.

On the other hand, whenever I set the internal fans on "smartguardian" (controlled automatically by the motherboard), the fans speed up anyway, so my initial problem is not completely irrelevant.

I'll buy an external controller and set the other fans with SpeedFan and I'll bare with it. The fans on the case are noisier than the others anyway.

That was a false reading, indeed. I tested the readings with HWMonitor and they all seemed OK.

Do, if you have win 10. Just reinstall, make sure you have motherboard drivers, install before windows update. (leave your comp internet disabled) You can install win 10 without a connection. Reinstall without the vid card.

Know your motherboard, it should need no updates,

You can also get slower fans for just regular case airflow or in some cases actually make an adapter to run them at lower voltage.
Most fans won't spin up on the 5 volt line. But you can also reroute the negative pin from a molex adapter to the 5 volt line and the result is that they get the difference between the 12 volt line and the 5 volt line. 7 volts. Most fans actually will work at 7 volts.

Hey my noggles, my desktop took a shit after shipping around the world and now I've got to build a new one. Salvaging components from it so it shouldn't be too bad.

Wonder what you recommend. I need CPU/momboard/power supply/case only. Looking to go midrange pretty much all the way, and trying not to spend more than $500.

CPU: Taking advantage of that new 3rd gen Ryzen with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600. Seems like a good midpoint
Mobo: Something that supports this CPU, is reliable, and has an M.2 port in case I get an NVMe SSD later on.
Power supply: Reliable, has sum juice. Vid card uses 80w. Probably can do with around 500W. I dunno, not good with computer.
Case: Simple but solid, ideally with some USB ports in the front. No gay lights.

Is the CPU a good choice? What should I go with for the rest? Thank you for your coolness

this was brought up years ago, some people tried to snuff it off as, paranoid, what do you have to hide anyway, bla bla. Paranoid liberal bs. By the nature of how wireless works, there was no doubt it would be exploited. I beleive that the earliest versions had no realistic encryption mechanism, nothing better than wep level at the best.

So did come into play. Obvious. Some corporations did develop effective measures before this came to light.

The idea that one would have to be within 30 feet as that would be the limitation distance anyway of the devices range, yea sure. if it were even possible. Well, if that were the case, there are devices than can amplify faint signals. So that thought of 30 ft at best is still, or was still a no-go.

Possibilities of having control of a signal from a keyboard and mose. Anything is possible. This issue was posed on this group as well some years back. It did come to be.

That's just great! Somebody asked if their android keyboard had some sort of encryption scheme. It almost a laughable at best.

The original point was people scoffed about wireless devices being insecure. That came to pass. But most 'bluetooth' devices are fine if they are somewhat recent as was mentioned. What time frame would this be.

Best bet would be noting the device and google if it is vulnerable, if it is, does the manufacturer offer a 'patch.' Many manufacturers
will never offer a patch, even if they could.
IanBliddlepot.asm - Tue, 26 Nov 2019 02:15:38 EST KxU0vgLD No.122613 Reply
There was this home smart home package. It offered security, like surveillance, with built in intruder detection. It worked on frequencies. Or a frequency. A simple tone generator could reproduce this frequency and render the trespassers intruders presence useless if it were stronger. Even breaking directly into a persons residence. Unless they had optional separate measures on their doors, windows. A dog that would alert to an intruder. All bets were off.

It was discounted that this and other systems were not built for reasonable security by the manufacturer, but more-so a security convince. Although many of these had been marked as reputable security presences in the industry. It really is even worse than that.

Smart tvs, what a mess. The NSA developed a backdoor to be capable to listen to conversations, leave the webcam on, even though the security settings, or basic settings were turned off. Even with the tv off this was possible. This got into the hands hackers/crackers. Big surprise. Didn't have to be NSA to figure this one out either though. Even without the manufacturers direct help.

If one were technically inclined to notice inconsistencies and detectable flaws could figure this all out. It's hooked up to your network, hence smart tv. So really anything beyond could be possible.

Email on a smart tv, google serrviesis a good example. Your everything could be just as well not even
be encrypted. Which services, such as firetv does like gmail services. One setting it it 'asks', is sharing your network passpharase.
Yes it is almost laughable.

Home security cameras. What port is open? Is it instantly vulnerable or not? OK. There were lists of open cams, some were home cams, some buisness, front door cameras. Today, well established websites offer security flaw of devices, laptops, smart devices, offer instructions on howto hack these. No need to join hacker groups or read hacker sites to get information. Mainstream security and tech websites offer these instructions. Why are they not prosecuted? Why should they be. They are exposing flaws that $$$ is overshadowing peoples security.

The work I do ocassionally, if somebody has tape over their webcam on their laptop, I don't even really think twice about it. Many laptops
out there have no patches. I did notice a lot of wireless logitech keyboards surface. Some were are not that out of date. A reason for this suddenly? Refer t op post. Not just logitech. Some got patches, some needed none, some even if they could be patched weren't offered patches. Some, would be impossible to patch.

So, I have very good reasons to know my win7 x64, despite my 22 years of experience OL and being the guy everyone calls to repair their computer for cheap, I feel bad, but apparently, Malwarebytes (paid), ESET NOD32 (cracked), Spybot Search & Destroy (browser hardening) isnt enough, even non-continually running scanners I use when I do some cleaning up such as Zemana Antimalware and Malwarebytes Adware Scanner, that usually catches everything, but it really isnt right now.

Im about to install Ubuntu MATE 18.3.4 and I had it on a usb key so I started a live session and install clamav/clamtk and unlike ClamWin, possible false positives arent indicated in blue, as I have found out nosing around the internets.

I know there is some actual awful shit in there, like Ramnit and a few others, but a lot of the Win.Trojan.Generic and such that are detected in the windows system folders....well Im not gonna delete em. I did delete a few obvious ones and am ignoring monero miners being detected as shit, even if I have detect PUPs unchecked by default in ClamTK.
