Use noscript, blocking gstatic should block ads on yt. I have not seen otherwise.
I would seek a smartphone. Flip phones are kinda out. You may already be paying
more than you should be if you only use it for txt and voice.

You can get an new unlocked phone for a substantial discount from a new carrier.
If it has a 30 day $ back guarantee just use it for a while, drop the account. Then
select the carrier of your choice. Look at Best buy and select your smartphone
and choose a service to activate it in store. (Samsung galaxy Starting at
$149.99 Your price for this item is $149.99 with activation today Save $100
Was $249.99) Or choose a less expensive device if wanted. Make sure it
is compatible with a phone service you may choose.

You can choose a service that has a no questions 30 day money back guarantee,
drop the service before the time. Then go with a BYOP (bring your own phone) carrier with
a good deal. Try to keep with a compatible service for the phone you intend to choose.
You will have more control over the phone being/buying an unlocked device. Not stuck with
a phone services annoying preloaded software that is intended for a specific carrier. Beware, I think some wireless services may be capable of keeping the phone locked for a month after discontinuing service. I don't know if this can be actually done though if or when switching
to a new carrier.

If you but a phone in store, a carriers store it will be branded to the carrier unless otherwise noted.
As in, being unlocked. Best buy is likely the best game in town. You may have to but a sim card initially for like 10 bucks. Your new carrier will likely or should toss one in for free.
-
There are deals for flip phone upgrades to smartphones, but few and instore (carrier) only, but that defeats the buying an unlocked phone initially. Android does have a noscript app, never used it.
Try it on your pc. To block ads and so-called cross scripting. ublock origin seems decent for ad blocking, with noscript.

Aside, a final carrier you can get a 2 gig unlimited? plan for like 30 bucks a month
with autopay with a BYOP choice. Your bring your own phone would be the
'unlocked phone' you may have purchased and activated with a carrier that allows discontinuation of service within 15 30 days. Activation and sim card should be free with the newest service. AT&T is a decent carrier? Cricket is owned by AT&T I think, is decent and likely 5 10 bucks cheaper.

I have always liked avgfree, simple. But I typed in a browser some app for android and suddenly avgfree pops up, "keep you mobile phone safe" or whatever. 'Web shield' is a nice free feature, It has picked up things that were clearly located in firfox browser cache, where if not using antivirus browsing a random website under admin,
the likely hood of it taking hold would be likely. Just by visiting a website, or I guess cross-scripting?

But this popup was concerning privacy-wise.

If they do this for advertising, they are possibly scanning search terms as well. I am pretty sure their privacy policy states 'third party' whatever may have access to data. But this is lame with popups when you visit say, google play.
I have always knew they did this to an extent but. I do notice avast seems to sneak through port 80 and 443.
Which, don't have avast installed. So obvious is obvious. They had merged at some point.

Which matters none to the post. Which was about avast server connects. But that was a wrong picture to the topic. That is simply a dell vista comp which was running 7, 10 and an independent Linux distribution perfectly. Was just saving that for reference of space used by the systems to up-size the hard drive far a win 10 install. Will just run 7 in a VM. If ever needed.

On that note, I put the old hard drive in a few laptops which were totally different manufacturers and after booting it went through the hardware recognition process perfectly without issue. The 8.65 drive is the linux / drive ext4, the 2.4 is the linux swap, the 74.68 /home is ext3.
The 43 gig is win 7, the drvie 100mb is the legacy boot partiton which 7 created. The E: drive is win10 which used the 100mb drive just fine without creating a separate boot drive.

Which between the win 7 and 10, the systems uses as the primary when switching between them.
If I worded that correctly. The image was apparently from win 7.

Used ext2fsd to read/write the ext3 /home partition from windows. It does not usuallt work well if using a, ext4 partition.

Anyone have experience using a high refresh CRT on a modern PC?

I’m basically clueless, I hear different adapters can add input lag or only support certain refresh rates. Lookin to get the most out of this p220f which supports up to 166 hz

Can anyone vouch for a specific adapter?

1280x1024 makes LCD 1080p look like trash, and I'm able to run RDR2 with almost every setting maxed and a locked 75fps. Basically no motion blur because of the way CRTs display images.

Now I need to buy a backup because I'm going to be sad when this thing dies on me some day.

Change Android aspect ratio and other issues

File: 1577906103975.png -(2124783B / 2.03MB, 2280x1080) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size. Change Android aspect ratio and other issues
So I got a new phone for Christmas, a Moto G8 which as far as I can tell runs stock Android 9 with a couple extra built in apps for gestures etc. I'm having four problems with it and I'm hoping you good folks would be so kind as to help.

The first problem is the really wide aspect ratio making older games have visual bugs.
For example on my screenshot you can see gray space on the background where new images appear as the camera pans, usually this would be happening off the side of the screen. Is there a way to force certain apps to think the phone has a standard 16:9 ratio or at least a way to set a custom resolution globally so I can toggle it when required?

Second problem I discovered when trying to take a screenshot with the game actually playing - on older versions of Android you could press the power and volume down buttons to instantly take a screenshot. Now I have to hold the power button and press an on screen overlay. There are two problems with this, the first being that all the games I've tried it in instantly bring up the pause menu, making taking screenshots of actual gameplay impossible (hence why my pic is of the main menu rather than in game, where my first issue is much more distracting), the second problem is that even if I solve the pausing issue, holding then pressing makes taking an image of something time-sensitive impossible. Is there a way to restore the old method of taking screenshots?

Third issue might just be me, but there is no way to capture a slow motion video. I can change the settings between 120 and 240fps from inside the default camera app, but there is no way to actually start recording. Do I need to download a different app for this or something? Seems strange you can modify the settings but not actually activate the feature.

Fourth issue is the flashlight, my old phones always gave off a constant light, the new phone flickers or strobes the light. So using it in an actually dark room is nauseating, I don't know how many epileptics will be killed by this model phone, but I would bet my life savings it won't be zero. Is there any way to adjust this to be a constant light source?

Thanks in advance and a happy new year to all!

best I can say is know your credentials beforehand. go to settings and reset
the phone to factory default setting and start over. know your router settings.
A lot of times doing a hard reset is all you need though. happy new year to
ya back! If this doesn't work, do know a few things like where the phone came
from, what phone plan, a few simple things can make things very difficult to
get a faulty phone repaired or replaced.

Hey I have a small issue. I pulled some old word files off my old laptop, it crashes when you move the mouse. Complete and total freeze. Not even any error message. Anyway, I was VERY lucky to even manage to get the files off and onto a flash, I haven't been able to replicate that event.

My problem is this, I have a newer laptop now, windows 10. I went to open my old word files to work on my stories and my retard computer is telling me now I have to sign into some bullshit faggy microsoft account? Or if not that then I have to enter my product key???? What the fuck???? The laptop was a gift???? I have no fucking product key???????? I think libreoffice alone should be backwards compatible to your files. If not, there should be plugins that will make it work. If not, surely you can make this work. You can do anything.

I would be pressed to see if your files are still intact. If you did sign into your account, I do not see it working if the files are like around 2008? With the faggy sign in. Regardless, back these files up,
again. From the laptop. Even if they are floppy era. There are usb floppy external drives that do work well, if the files are that old.

I've been thinking of getting a website of my own just for fun (not a chan, just for personal stuff and jokes and maybe later re-use the address+server for a lil mini-business thing), and to make an inside-joke abstract webNewspaper to make the day of some people I know. I've already checked that the address I want is free and not too expensive, but I've no idea where to go from there.
Is there any good collected page with info about just, how to run a website?
As far as I understand you would rather rent a small server-instance from some bigger company rather than selfhost and invite weird traffic to your home-network?
Also how hard would it be to set up my own mail-server on the site (is that even included when you buy an address)? Like, would it be a bad idea for a webstuff-noob like me that might misconfigure something or is it pretty straightforward (as long as you're not too daft to grok the manuals)?

This is bad, real bad.

Ubuntu tried with unity to provide a complete desktop experience with sensible default settings.
The global menu is a boon for anybody concerned about screen real-estate (13.3" laptops, etc...)
It has integration into things like cloud calendars, cloud storage, etc.
(some) touchpad & touchscreen gestures work right out of the box.
A consistent look and feel of applications that are part of the standard distribution (no ppas)
HiDPI scaling

If you want those features on for instance a Gnome desktop you can get them, but you basically have build your own configuration out of plugins and third party apps, which sucks balls.
FOSS software developers have a really questionable attitude when it comes to implementing default features and anything that works with proprietary systems. That was why Ubuntu/Unity was awesome, they didn't give a shit about the hypocritical "community" and just released stuff that works.
(ZFS on 16.04 is a another example, but unrelated)

Regardless of what else has happened, it's been nice with the Unity lovers coming out of the woodwork. Usually Linux people just talk about what they hate, not what they love.

At any rate, you should be fine. Gnome headerbars are just as space saving as global menu. We still don't know how Ubuntu will tweak gnome, but there's been global menu for gnome3 before, and it wouldn't take a lot for Canonical to do it again. Finally, if all else fails, the Unity devs haven't just dropped dead, they're committed to forking it.
