Guys i need some advice. i am 28 year old male, livin in Eastern europe, at the moment im working in warehouse and all of my life worked physical jobs but im also attending college(Multimedia technologies degree)
Im very uncertain of which career path to choose. im very introverted, have terrible anxiety but still i want to move on in life, one of my main character quality is that i have very rich imagination and good sense of humour(dunno how that helps lol)
So i must choose between few different career options:
  1. Sound engineer and producing(i like it alot, but huge downside that there are practicaly no jobs in my country for that branch)
  2. Graphic designer, like Photoshop master and etc.(its ok but i kinda suck at drawing,in a sense i never trained myself how to draw)
  3. Programming games or software (alot of job offers for this, but sometimes i think its too hard for me, since i cant into logic and ima brainlet for maths)
  4. Web developer (lots of jobs, but kinda meh for me)
  5. 3D artist,animator ( looks fun)
  6. Sysadmin or helpdesk, like IT route (well, maybe its boring but i think requires least brain usage)
So what do you think guys, what would be the best and most lucrative career path for an old fart like me?
Maybe some of you already working in one of my listed fields, and could share expierences? ive tried so many of these things, but if i want to make something out of myself i need to focus on one specific thing i guess ;/
Thank you for your time

Sup /tech/

I'm not sure if this is a subject better suited for you or /vg/ but hopefully some of you can share some experiences.

So basically I have used the Razer Goliathus Speed mouse pad for about 2 years. Although it's a great pad, I was really having issues with friction under my mouse (yes I would periodically clean the mat but it never seemed as smooth as it once was) so at the suggestion of my friend, I decided to try out a hard mouse mat.

I ended up getting the Corsair MM600 and for the most part, I like it. My problems with friction are obviously gone and I feel like flick shots are a lot easier. Pixel accuracy is still a bit difficult but I've had the pad for almost a week and am hoping I just adjust to it.

I do have one issue though, I tend to sometimes spin out (point at the sky) or the tracking will stop short on big swipes. I've read that sometimes the sensor can't keep up with fast movements, however this is a Logitech G Pro mouse I'm using. I also have used the surface tuning in the software (the hard pad preset seems the best).

I would like to know if anyone here has had similar experiences and if the problems went away after awhile (maybe breaking the pad in or something). I really don't want to stop using the pad but it is fucking me over a bit in FPS games like Siege or Overwatch.

Thank you.

Old windows 7 installation merging to new one

Hey /tech/, I have a rather perplexing problem on my hands, and I'd figured i'd ask you guys here since you've rarely let me down; Is there a way to merge all my programs, settings, registry settings, files, and basically everything from an old windows installation to a new one that was installed on the same disk that the old installation is on?

I have a folder on my new OS install called "Windows.Old, which is basically my old setup but I have a feeling that if I try to move that folder to my new one it will not have the same effect as a full migration.

So what I'm asking here is this: Is there ANY software that will allow me to perform this kind of operation or am I just stuck with a fragmented set of my shit from both installations? Has anyone had this problem before, and if you have, what have you heard about it?

The windows.old folder is a backup folder for windows 10 upgrades that allows you to roll back the installation in case you recieved a major update or you have upgraded to Windows 10.
The folder is basically a backup of that earlier Windows build or installation.

If you have Win7, and want to reinstall Win7, you can export any registry changes via regedit > File > Export...
This wil generate a .reg file with the selected registry folders, keys and values that can be installed on the new install.
You cannot select multiple items in regedit, so make a.reg from each of the HKEY folders if you want a full backup

Files can always be backed up to another drive or USB stick.

If you have Win10 and want to reinstall Win7, you can and should only move the files.

For some programs (eg. Steam games), you can copy the files and folders to another drive or partition, and then re-add the given folder in the program. After some verification, the games will usually work again

Copying settings varies from program to program

>>121451
If the installation is on the same PC, you will need a USB drive or external HDD.

Easy Transfer is pre-installed on win7, and works with both x86 and x64 versions (however, you cannot transfer an x64 OS to an x86 installation)... it also works between win7 machines/installations.

There are a few limitations of the easy transfer, in that it may not pick up all programs or settings, but it should work for the most part, especially any M$-related programs

There are a few limitations of the easy transfer,

Actually more than a few. It is designed merely for transferring, an install to another hard drive, or another computer. It cannot be upgraded from, say win 7 premium to ultimate. The .old file will not work this way.

My guess is person installed windows within windows. no mention of what the old windows was.

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/recover-personal-files-from-windows-old-in-windows-8/ Same principal I assume.

win.old is created when there is an existing windows already installed. Or like 7 8 to 10, upgrade, where again, there was already a windows version already installed.

Not enough information.

So you visit a web page and what happens? An html page is rendered from the software environment of your OS which is generated by the hardware on your computer (this is where it gets foggy for me) the processor does something with the hard drive (ok what’s a motherboard it has to be doing something right?) yadda yadda logical circuits and bill gates’ your uncle and it all happens. Anyone board enough to explain this to me? Maybe shame me and point me towards some free educational material? In b4 Google it fgt.

Modern web browsers are essentially live interfaces which can be modified on-the-fly, even as you are reading a page.

The human mind is a reality rectification machine which will rationalise inconsistencies in its input if they appear in a blind spot, such as changes being made to a web page during a saccade: the constant instances of rapid eye movement during which you are effectively blind.

Webcams are omnipresent are perfectly suited for retinal tracking.

I have to use windows 10. It's a Surface Pro that I use for contract work. Anyway, I've been very happy with the EPIC Chromium browser so far, but it has essentially no supported addons and the https redirect function doesn't seem to work on many pages. For example, https everywhere used to always work on 420chan in Firefox, but SSL doesn't work with EPIC.

Is there any way (or any firewall you know of) that forces Windows 10 to only allow SSL connections for http traffic?

Also, I highly recommend EPIC as far as DNS leaks and free proxies go. Seems to work flawlessly so far with pretty good streaming speeds and no leaks from any flash /HTML5 / java shit.

You can use a firewall to block HTTP and maybe block all unencrypted traffic but it's going to look to your applications like a dead connection. Also, all privacy/security browsers except for TBB are for suckers. I don't know why you would run a proprietary Chromium build made by some Indian company, but I would highly recommend that you stop making recommendations.

I'm currently working a pretty crappy job and I have a promise of a better new job as soon as I'm certified, but the tests are expensive and I could really only scrape enough money together for one shot at the tests.

If any of you are A+ certified and have any advice or words of wisdom I would really appreciate it.

So my hard drive has been fucking up lately so I bought a new one and I'll need to do a fresh install of an OS, I've been using Windows 7 and I like it, but I was wondering if it's a good time to upgrade to Windows 10 yet? I haven't really been keeping up to date with changes they've been making, so if someone could tell me the benefits and the negatives of switching to W10 that'd be real good. Also is it still necessary to change settings to better your privacy while using Win10, if so can someone give me some hints on how to do that. Cheers!

My scheme is 35gigs for win7, not too many programs, 40 45 would likely be better. I always have at least 5 6 gigs of free space out of 35 gigs on C; <(haha) at any given time though. Plenty of basic programs installed.

2nd drive is for DVD,

Drive 3 E: for a linux distribution that is fairly minimal, minimal and bilild for there.
Simple but stable operating system. / is around 8 gigs, swap next partition is at
around just over twice the amount of installed ram. The rest of the space is /home.
The home is shared between the win 7 system, and linux for mostly storage. And if
windows linux or bothe goes south, the spare /home space will still hold all ones
information, music movies etc intact. Could backup a windows resore backup file
there as well.

Ext2Fsd is a nice program to share windows with linux filesystems, partitions.

Hey /tech/, I've got two separate but vaguely related questions.

I was recently browsing a website to shop for camping trailers, and when I woke up this morning I found out I had been contacted by 3 different sale agencies from the company website I had been on. I only log in to website on Firefox, but I was browsing on Opera and I clear my cookies before every session. I've never logged into anything with the exceptions one of my email accounts from Opera, and even then not often. And yet somehow they got my phone number and that email address. I have ghostery, ublockorigin, disconnect, and privacybadger added to my browsers and none of them detected anything, but when i looked at opera I noticed privacy badger had been disabled and I didn't remember doing that.

Now here the thing, and I'm going to be up front with you, I was on a decent amount of ambien last night, and I can't rule out the possibility it was me. But I also can't imagine having coherently typed out BOTH my phone number and my email address, especially since I had said email address open in another tab. I have to suspect somehow they were able to grab that info without me consenting, but that makes me seem paranoid. Anyone have something like this happen to them?

How could they have gotten my info?

Related, how do websites preserve my logged in passwords? there are a couple websites I log into and I notice when I clear my cookies and delete my temp files, the next time I go to those pages I might not be logged in BUT my account/password are still pre-typed... so obviously it remember me somehow. How? Is there a local component I've missed and failed to make part of my delete cycle, or is it just that my default IP is now stored by that website?

Thanks for any help understanding

Must have anautofill something turned on. SA far though as it remembering you,
Log off, say email sites, ect that have a log off option. Clear all information
when opera shuts down? I usually use firefox.

Yea, I imagine, just a thought with autofill option possibly enabled, that any site could run a script if you have ever said yes to saving 'autofill' with your name email, new account, whatever. Poke around your settings. Lean it.

Keep helper security apps kinda at a minimum and learn that you are the security
controller. Not the programs.

Sooooup /tech/?

After Windows 7 committing suicide like 40 fucking times between 3-4 oem versions on shitty laptop pawnshop specials, I've said fuck it and just want to clone 1 fresh Windows 7 install to 4 or 5 hard drives. I don't give a fuck about licensing and their stupid windows genuine shit always ends up breaking and annoying the fuck out of me anyways.

If I were to just stop dealing with oem factory resets, lost passwords, and shit and just pop new hard drives into my cheap computers; would that work if they are system image cloned from 1 "master" clean install that is never used? I know they won't be activated and would need whatever daz loader that exists now to get rid of all the other black screen nagging shit but would the OS work or is there some blocker programmed in to keep from raid duplication or creating multiple system images? I've googlefu'd and failed, I don't see an answer if you can clone to separate hard drives without the host drive baleeting itself.

I really just want to have dual boot Windows 7/8/10 on my other computers who all started out as OEM versions anyways but ended up running various linux distro's. Thanks hiffwe

Bonus: Didn't daz loader get turned into malware? Is that also only for cracked versions or just any windows genuine spam?

I worked on a computer from a pawn shop yesterday. It was an as-is desktop. Gaming computer, even the card is will self was and still is over $250 bucks new. Assumingly by the way it was acting, constant reboots, the restoring windows something message, freezing for a few minutes. Possibly the boot sector was corrupt. For that reason the way it was acting it had a repair partition fail. + the manufacturers useless software with the repair partition, it failed.

So take out the video card, wipe the drive from an external DVD, looks and acts good. Reinstall win 10 and installs and works flawlessly. Was not stuck on any install process and update.

SO yea pawn shops I do know charging $125 for a computer I would not even buy for 10 dollars do exist, but pawn shops, may not even know anything about computers. So it isn't a bad idea to keep ones eyes open. When backup partitions fail it's easy$$
