Poor 2D graphics render/benchmarks

So on my desktop I have issues with 2D rendering when viewing streaming videos, watching videos that I've downloaded onto my HDD or even scrolling fast on a web page. I get the horizontal line flickering. When I run benchmark scores all of my scores turn out fine in the low-mid/mid range scores, which is what I expect for my setup. But the 2D benchmarks were terrible.

Pic is my CPU, next post will have GPU.

Main questions are - what affects 2D graphics more, the GPU or CPU? What should I upgrade, CPU, GPU, or both, to improve this issue? Any other suggestions besides upgrading?

I know you're supposed to have checked but are you sure it's not dust? It can clog in-between the heatsink fins where you can't see it but where it prevents any airflow.
You can only reach that with a can of compressed air and easily miss it.

So I looked that up and I can't adjust that setting due to having a graphics card. From what I can tell that only setting is only available if you have onboard graphics or if the display driver allows it, which apparently my nVidia drivers do not. But when I go into the nVideo control panel there's no hardware acceleration/2D settings that I can find. :(

If not fixed already, Arial fonts is what you are likely looking for. If just web browser showing these, try uninstalling and reinstalling. Do %appdata% and delete the browser folder after uninstalling google chrome. Before reinstalling. It will not
harm anything.

Some things to try. just for fun you can go to searchbar type dxdiag click it.

Try this, open powershell as admin. Type devmgmt.msc, window opens. Locate monitors, drop down may say generic driver. Right click, driver update driver with search online.

I just did it and it correctly installed this computers monitors correct driver from a generic driver. A definite correct driver model displayed instantly and the screen does not have faint wavy lines. Success!

Try updating windows.

Otherwise, note monitors model and look to the site for the correct driver and save it. install it?

Sometimes people install windows with a video card installed. May cause grrr. If so.

Take the thing out, and reboot. Preferably using a vga cable if your comp and monitor supports it. DVI if that's what you have. Start windows.

But in practice, Initially installing windows using a vga DVI connection when installing helps initiate a correct monitor display from the beginning. Otherwise windows is just trying to guess how to connect to video card or through hdmi. If all looks good

Then use hdmi, video card, whatever, after you systems seems stable and the monitor seems to look correct via dvi or vga.

Worst case, reinstall windows via vga or dvi if this isn't resolved in like 15 minutes. No video card. Avoid hdmi.
If the install is a success and everything looks fine, great.

The rest will be identified correctly through windows updates. Vid card, hdmi connection. Or just simply by restarting after changing connection cables
and or installing video card.
Can go back to devmgmt.msc to see what or if it recognized everything right. Generic drivers are usually just fine, but correct drivers from the vid
cards website or windows update options should find everything correctly.

Check Disk Health / Failing Disk

Ive formatted and repurposed a rig from work that was otherwise to be recycled. Windows 7 would not boot so I formatted and put Win 10 on it. My plan was to wait for purchasing a license. For some odd reason, the machine would shut itself off and ask me to add a drive to boot from.

Taking the drive card out of the slot and reinserting would fix the issue for a couple of hours. Unexpected_Store_Exception

I've looked up how to approcah this scenario, and there were too many approaches. Its a decent machine otherwise, that I've got for free. I gotta wonder if its worth the labor to determine the issue. I feel like my first approach should be diagnosing the health my disk drives, how about does this go? Thanks ; O

Easier fix, dig into bios and look for efi option, disable that save and exit. You cannot harm anything. Easy as well is reset BIOS to original configuration, or factory default and save. That would be to the far right in bios settings. Do check option to 'other than' efi/uefi if it is present and simply save and exit that way.

Use the disk wipe method, wipe the drive for a few minutes. This would fix wipe a corrupt bios and effectively remove directions to corrupt partitions/filesystems. NTFS windows ext4 is linux.

Then simply go through the motions of installing windows 7. Create a 501431 windows partition,
50 or so gigs. 50,000 mb. This will create windows on a drive. Then save the rest of the space for future use. That should make an E: drive.

In future installs, windows 7 goes first win 10 next then linux. Or simple 7 the ten or win 7 then linux.
It can be done any way you like but earlier versions of windows first, then linux makes things a lot
NicholasFuckingwater.uue - Sun, 07 Jul 2019 02:05:35 EST g5wawLiT No.122349 Reply
An easy option is create windows 7 make it like say 56434 gigs, and you can run windows 10, linux 'within windows 7' at the same time.

Called a virtual machine. You can remove any install by simply deleting it. You need to have enough space to install on, so your E: drive is where you would like to install your VM to. Windows linux.

Hey guys, I'm a brother from /psy/, first post here.

I bought myself a custom built PC second hand for a fairly good price and the fans keep running at full speed ALL THE FUCKING TIME, non-stop, FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON.

I tried disabling in the device manager one of my graphic cards (the Intel HD Graphics 4600 that came with the mother board) to keep only the Nvidia GeForce GTX 970, but that didn't change anything.

I really don't know what to do and it's driving me crazy.

Plz halp?

Here are some specs in case it helps:
Windows 10 Home
Processor: Intel Core i7-4790 quad core, 8 threads 3.60GHz
RAM: 16gb
Graphic card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 by Gigabyte
Power supply: Thermaltake TR2 600W

Hey guys, can anyone recomend a simple desktop recording program to capture audio/video of my desktop? I'm taking a college course online and my professor has set it so that their lectures are removed from the course site after 2 weeks of broadcast. This is a problem because these lectures contain information we need to review for exams and isn't in the text or handouts.

Before you ask, yes this is a dumb set up and I'm trying to get them to change it, but in the meantime I need to get these recordings while they fix the issue.

I've tried a couple of free desktop recording software, but so far they either do not capture audio, save as a unique filetype that can't be played back in a media player, or can only capture in 3 minute intervals before auto shutting off

I need a program that can record a video conference that goes on for 1-2 hours, saves audio and video, and is free.

I don't care if it has a water mark or if the quality isn't crisp as long as it's functional. I just need a basic program.

Thanks for any recs

Any good and cheap wireless speakers / soundsystems to connect with your TV or Computer?

I've already got a really great and impressive PC-Set-Up with a Creative Soundcard and a Creative 5.1-Speaker-Set-Up, but I'm looking for a wireless alternative (with maybe minimal bigger speakers) for my living-room.
CedricPickhood.ace - Fri, 13 Sep 2019 17:27:04 EST Osd02ngP No.122469 Reply
Can get a receiver with wireless speakers. If you don't have a receiver, it will make all the difference with sound. Wired or wireless. Thrift stores may surprise you
with pretty new equipment for very cheap. I got one that works off Itunes, I-phone
playlists. Haven't used it but the receiver is I think 2 3 years old and was $30 bucks. It is still in production in the audio video home theater system market.
So it is around $400 500 bucks new, somewhere around there. You need a wireless usb to use it for a wireless connection that is unique to the receiver.

At times you may come across wired speakers that work with a particular model
that you need a receiver that can decode newer format signals. Wired you may find people have cut off the special connections thing it would work with their receiver, to find their receiver cannot process the signal correctly. As well, wireless speakers, some high-end, all you need is the receiver that can accommodate the speakers, and maybe need to order special connectors, if wired to make a connection.

I have the 1909 version of 10, and I think it works quite well. Stable. Previous versions of 10
had issues. So generally I stuck with 7. 10 did have issues. Finally decided, that switching to
10 was inevitable.

Really it is a simple system. I have mine minimized to be win7-like in simplicity. A minimal system. If I need something, I can re-add re-install a 'feature' I removed or stopped and reinstall restart anything I think I would find useful. 10 now by far is great, I personally don't see any need to
install 7 even it it were supported.

I run Ubuntu 17.10 on my laptop and need to upgrade it.
Use it for coding microcontrollers (so need proper USB support), Web development, and general use.
No upgrading Ubuntu never works because fuck I don't care why.

I am not a new to choosing different Linux distros, I was even one of these guys who did run gentoo on his home pc. But not any more, because well I don't want my OS to be a hobby just fucking use it.

What annoys me are the release cycle and fucking outdated packages you get.
So I like that arch has rolling updates but I am not familiar with it and I do not want to spend time doing neckbeard shit.

I'm this close to installing windows on the thing so help.

Really? I use Mint Mate, and think it's great. I wonder if the ubuntu versioin is very different?

I like Mate because it doesn't really try to re-invent anything. I think of it as a combo of OSX and XP. Most of the interface is like old windows, but then it also has support for multiple workspaces, and doesn't look terrible.

>going back to unity 7.
Every time I try unity, I nope the fuck out very quickly. It feels like OSX where they try to hide functionality from you. Or they make some random change that makes zero sense. Plus, fuck the default amazon search.

I like Mint, but the packages can outdated. I do a clean re-install every six months, and rarely run into issues. But, never say never. I remember like a year and a half ago, I had a pretty new install of mint, and was trapped in absolute dependency hell trying to get fucking AUDACITY to work. One of the most popular packages, but there was some obscure problem with pulseaudio or ALSA and my hardware. I still have flashbacks to those terminal screens.

>I like Mint, but the packages can outdated.

They generally become updated around 6 months after ubuntu releases. Usually for the sake of being known to be stable.? Then the distributions releases are made suitable for use with their distributions, packages, dependencies that work with their distributions. Mate, KDE,etc. The distributions like mint will work on these for their releases in the meantime before they officially update their release and packages, in the meantime

You can or could recompile these yourself, likely without much issue with dependencies if you wanted to keep packages up to date yourself without much isssue. I used to update packages that require openssl to be updated when they were not updated in a timely manner. I do not care for ubuntu or many distros based on ubuntu. I did like Mepis as an all time favorite for a pretty long time. I believe it always kept up up to date with ubuntu
updates. Package releases.
