I have a quite large collection of porn in high quality that takes up a lot of space, and recently I got to thinking it´s actually kinda unnecessary cause most of them there are just certain segments and part it is I´m saving them for.
But I´m also horrified at the thought of losing quality from my permanent stash by cutting in a video editor and re-encoding. Is there a way to cut without a re-encode? Since there is no shifting or manipulation really, only trimming the fat.

Or am I overly worried of quality loss? Is there a way to make sure it stays pretty much intact?

Your shitty porn videos aren't Tigole encodes of blu rays. The quality is already going to be low. You can try trimming and copying with ffmpeg or you could just re-encode with a reasonable bitrate and look at the result.

Use ffmpeg, that you compiled yourself preferably, and turn all those huge resolution wmv's, flv's into mp4 or mkv, you can save tons of space without losing quality at all (for any sort of video) with the right ffmpeg command for you.

If you don't use linux or can't compile, use Avidemux or Handbrake to make the files smaller without losing quality, it's possible but look it up yourself. You can also still use Virtualdub (with all the plugins and shit it's still pretty good) to do that, turn videos into x265 mp4's, that's the best compression method possible, all possible to do with ffmpeg, avidemux and virtualdub, not sure about handbrake, it only wants to save files as m4u (which is weird) or mkv's.

https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/blog/2017/10/big-canadian-isp-is-actually-asking-the-canadian-government-for-internet-censorship/

Anybody noticed anything ? Would using a different DNS than the default ones prevent this? I'm already using a different one because Bell sucks and are behind the times in other ways, no DNSSEC dns servers etc. Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 seemed great for a while but them going after nazichan is the kind of first potshot in a possible trend.

Having to use 4 search engines nowadays to really find shit and not torrents, I'm on my private trackers and it'll stay that way. But it's getting hard to find just regular websites/blogs that are not anything extremist, some can be political..but, we're already taking it in the ass from corporatism, now the state? In Canada? Yeah the story is from late 2017...looks like the Liberals likely ignored Bell. There's already a list of banned websites in Canada, but it's like 30-40 of them and the kind most people would be fine with it, plus some online casinos...that's a state business here and they don't take kindly to that up here...I don't want to become like China because the US is already doing it. ffs

Those mofos have monopoly on fibre internet...although, I have options, some small ISP's now offer TV and gigabit cable, no symmetric uploading, I'd go with their 740/125 plan which is much faster on the download side (I got 300/300 FTTH) but 125 up sucks, I upload a shit-ton to my VPS so...that's a downside, but if Bell can have all ISP's modify their behaviour so that we end up like in the UK where only tiny ISP's offer uncensored internet by default, the others they gotta ask for porn to be "enabled", that gets one on a list that's for sure, especially if there's kids in the house or Australia's China-style firewall...

So, anything strange to other canucks 'round here?

Pic unrelated, the album I'm rockin right now while toking some Sensi Star.

Oh, I get it now, you're hosted on your own Bell connection. I wonder, is that modem a HH3000? Because here, we were on Bell Aliant Fibre before Bell Canada took it over, and we have FTTH...there's the ONT that they installed in the house, I had to destroy my "inside the wall" aquarium because they could only bring the cable from the phone pole in that one place, then that ONT is connected to the router/modem HH2000....I hear it's pretty easy with pfSense to get rid of the HH3000, but one can't use their own modem or mess around much at all with the fibre to ONT to modem HH2000 setup preferred by Bell Aliant, forgot to list em, since one of the big selling points, since we don't really know them, they were new when it came to outside maritime provinces, that they were NOT Bell Canada, well that lasted barely a year.

Good to know. But you also got rid of the toxic sludge that even our /pol/ over here was removed, since a good while. Better off to keep it this way for a while I'd say and this place will be safe. Good news then.

iphone 6 was dropped, screen decimated, and then ripped away from the rest of the phone in anger. I bought and installed a new screen today equipped with everything I need, except now the touch screen function is not working properly. It was working fine for the most part the first hour or so after I hooked the new screen up, but the touch screen function has been getting progressively worse throughout the day. The touch function is still there, but just barely. The only way I can use the phone at all is by doing a hard reset, then upon respring the touch function *sometimes* works, but only for about 10-30 seconds and then it's gone.

I'd just like to know if the phone is even salvageable. From searching google and youtube I see for most iphones the situation is more black or white; they either have touch functionality or none at all. I'm hoping it's just the screen I bought and I can just buy another... Got it on amazon for what ti's worth.

and yes I have uninstalled the screen and reinstalled it 10 times, makes no difference. I unhooked everything in the whole phone, battery etc. whatever else is in there. I basically took the whole phone apart and put it back together. Many wonderful and exotic things in exchange for helpful advice here ~

Basically if a person is affected by nearby electric equipment or where stuff is plugged in an outlet, are these waves coming from the wall socket and through the extension adapter as well. Can these waves be minimized as in the B example by plugging in a 20m long extension cord in a wall socket from another room. Will the EMF waves only come from that wall socket or will it also be in the cord? by analyzing the picture you know what i want to accomplish / figure out so how would you go about plugging something in while minimizing the radiation?

Anon,
You seem to think that wi-fi sends out radiation as a byproduct of what it does. This is a misconception. This radiation it sends out is actually what it uses to connect to and communicate with other devices. Think of the connection between a router and your computer or phone as an invisible wire. If you keep the router from sending out its radiation, you're in effect cutting the invisible wire. Your router would be useless.
I'm sorry you're having trouble with this. I hope you figure it out.

PS3 gone wrong, what HDD should I jam in it?

After 9 years my PS3 slim is finally acting up, it has three beeps and red lights which means it's got issues with overheating. I suspect the HDD is on its last legs because it got really slow, just look at that time requiring to copy a PS1 game to the HDD. I was like "wow that CD speed is crazy slow", so I tried playing MGS2 for PS2 (not HD Edition) when the PS3 shut itself off, just before some really scary sounds coming from what I suspect was HDD. I tried backing up my saves but it's so slow I halted it as HDD was making those dying sounds again. It could be the power unit is dusty and clogged up but I think the HDD is the culprit here, hence asking the question here instead on video games board.

So most likely the HDD is dead and I want to replace it but for the love of fuck can't decide which one. Toshiba L200, P300, WD Blue or HGST Travelstar (specifically Z7K500) all 1TB. Please tell me your experiences or recommendations if you have.

Any decently fast 7200RPM HDD with a good deal of cache.

Switched out the 500 gig stock HDD in a ps3 slim I recently got with a 250 GB WD Scorpio Black (7200 RPM, 32 MB cache) from my old laptop. Less space, but much, much faster than the stock one (5400RPM and 8meg cache if I recall).

Better yet if you want to invest a bit more - drop in an SSD. It makes loading super fast, and a decent 250-500 GB SSD can be obtained pretty cheaply nowadays...

Of course they do, but not because of technicalities but because the programmers who did the work did so last decade and it wasn't updated since. Flash is beyond superfluous at this point. For better or worse (mostly the worse, but compared to stuff like Flash or Java applets, the better), HTML has become fixated as a multimedia medium rather than a text medium with light image/sound capabilities. At the same time, the actual programming part for the web was finally elevated above shit level in the last couple years, making Javascript on par with Actionscript (the lang used for flash), and because JS is still kinda shit we have now TypeScript which is Actionscript on steroids and actually good.

I need to buy Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop CS6.

For literally anyone who knows or wants to learn photoshop hotkeys, GIMP's equivalents are unbelievable gutter trash.

Which was something I didn't realize until I was pretty adept at Blender. The lack of a coherent hotkey system cripples GIMP.

"never needed hotkeys"

Everyone needs hotkeys.
Personally the big downside to all the time I've spent using GIMP is that it was all time I could have been learning photoshop hotkeys.
And knowing photoshop hotkeys is a solid component of an actually valuable trade-skill.

Maybe there are hotkey wizards with GIMP, but the road to get there is certainly not as smooth or easy as PS.

Personally if I just had a quicksearch button like 3D software has to relatively quickly load up an obscure filter or function buried in the third layer of menus it would be tremendous.

I actually do use the hotkeys for simple functions like selecting common tools and swapping FG/BG. But the other half of functions I commonly use I have no fucking idea how to get there as there are no direct hotkeys for them.

So the process of getting to them is basically right-clicking and then hitting a complicated Tekken combo to get to "resize canvas" or whatever.

I installed the distro myself on my work laptop. I'm cool with IT and they know about it.

Now, my laptop has a VNC connection with my home computer.

I'm actually at work right now typing this from my home computer.

Can my company somehow log all this?

Or is it that my company only sees VNC noise without knowing what I'm actually doing?

I know nothing about, or have not used a VNC, but you should be able to alter setting to use port 80 or port 443. Those are usually open. If a different port is
set by default for your VNC, which is likely, any port can be used for any service
if you can tell it to. Or use a helper-program, etc, to help make that happen.

Cool video. Used to work with a guy, well we would talk, he had his own ISP he started; for many years. Best game in town. For a small dependable ISP.

A company not to name, he wanted to move on to other things, so he sold it. He signed papers, had no legal representation, (which he should have) but kinda a trustworthy person. They used their powers to not only take his business for nothing in return, but he owed the corporation tens of thousands in the end.

I stick with win7 pro.
10 is too busy. Reinstall a fresh 10 by default, discard most if not all manufacturer built in 'helper software.' Like stuff that you can contact say Dell for tech support. Automatic manufacturer software updates. Just keep things to windows 10, and favorite software.
When reinstalling, do things manually. Let me choose my own settings. Then keep

My Sandisk SSDPlus 240GB trash plastic has gone to shit after just 7 months of use. I can still boot into Windows7 on an ancient PC but it is excruciatingly slow. I can still copy files at much slower speeds than originally but I managed to back up my data to a USB stick. What tf is going on, anyone has experience with these stupid SSDs? I had a WD Caviar Black HDD that lasted me for 7 years in a PC that was hit numerous times. I thought SSDs are supposed to be even more resilient because they have no moving parts. I'm so pissed. Is there anyway to make this SSD work again or should I should I backup everything and take a hammer to it? It basically freezes for one or two literal minutes at a time and then starts working again and so on. I tried that weird method of letting it on while in BIOS with only power plug connected to the SSD but obviously that didn't work. Could this be because of multiple power outages and hard resets this computer has experienced in the last months while ON?

Also we need to bring back lead based solder immediately.

Some drive manufacturers have put out versions that just plain fail.

Too many variables of how and why a hd may be deemed the point of failure.

A HD may come with windows installed from whatever computer manufacturer that fail consistently.

But the drive may be fine. I find that repair partitions/drives fail to restore the system and people and computer manufacturers may blame the hard drive.

I think the added software;

The diagnostics, 'keep you system and drivers updated, contact help center, etc, software is often the failure.

I just zero out drives that have these extras. These installed helper applications and extras are basically useless IMO. And as well are the point of failure of the operating system. I have done many systems
that the software often has common theme. I have asked, does this have a restore partition, yes, but it
didn't work. Trial version of whatever, anti-virus, yea.

So if in warranty, the HD is replaced, zeroed out, called refurbished and working correctly. Then often gets moved to computer chain stores as 'refurbished and you can get a good drive for a lot less $$.

Plus a warranty. Unless stated otherwise.

External drives, just wipe the drive along with whatever that is on the drive. It's a hard drive.

Computer manufacturers drives with the restore partitions and extras. I say just wipe the drive by default. Reinstall windows. Install drivers enough to get windows connected to the internet if needed. Get whatever updates and wanted optional drivers updates through windows update, and you should have a reliable
stable working system.

Jap proxy server, obvious was obvious.

Crowds was a proxy like-service, that was intended, to make users anonymous through users' base.
Like the more users, the more difficulty to target individual users. hence 'crowds'.

If one were to scan for proxy servers, like proxy-hunter one would scan IP blocks. For ftp services, usenet services, whatever.

Open services, sometimes people leave these services open to test server load. Kind of a brilliant idea, to see how things work and fail. Security checks. Load balancing I would guess.

People get mad that their server they are working on, gets slammed. Well, that is the test.

One can make any port use any service. Around 56,000 port?s

In the US, port 80 is generally unencrypted web servers. As well, port 443 is almost always encrypted. SSL/TLS.
Many countries use port 3128 for web services..

Just messing around with ideas.

Is a Power Bank with power outlet sufficient to supply computer monitor which draws about 30W?`how long does a fully charged average power bank last if it would be used for supplying power to a monitor and not charging phones n shit?

Whats the difference of a regular power outlet compared to a power bank battery in terms of electrical waves/radiation being emitted. The battery should emitt less of those "waves" riGht?

I'll give your cousin $1,000 if she can reliably sense whether a something is turned on by EM waves alone. Let's make it happen.

Nope, It probably uses harsher square waves.

Besides, outside of young cunts who can still hear high frequency whine, this sensitivity is not a real thing.

Also most computer monitors now draw straight DC from a brick.

Suspected a crank but tried to steer it in another direction, oh well.
OP: Read this
https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_hypersensitivity

This probably won't help to convince anybody who firmly believes in crank stuff but there also is a crank solution for that:
Google "Orgone Sticker"

Everybody else: Don't give me shit about potentially encouraging people into new-age woo. If you have to deal with people like that personally it does more harm than good to try to convince them of anything. But this kind of acknowledgement shuts them up about it when they are near you.
