My psycho ex smashed my phone with hundreds of cherished pjcs and videos of my son. The screen is wrecked but power supply seems to run. Haven't been successful in merely plugging it into pc so wondering if i can remove the built-in storage; is it just a micro sd in these things or do i need special equipment?

What type of phone? I just closed down my business and have ton of phones that has bad boards but the rest of the phone is essentially brand new. If I have one that works I’ll be more than happy to send you one for free. I’ve been in your situation. I’ll bookmark this and check back in a few days.

Hello,

I've got thousands of bookmarks (and at that, some important ones).

They're all scattered around mostly in the toolbar or messy Speed Dial folders. Not organized at all.

I know it will be a pain in the ass to sort.

Still, do you guys have any tips on how to effectively sort these out, some that I might not think of?

Or even add-ons that could make it a bit easier. I've seen a few of those but don't really know what they're worth.

Thank you in advance, I want out of this mess!

I haven't used a bookmark on purpose in 15 years. I'm sure there's a bookmark manager that supports search and batch removal. Good luck with the speed dial shit though.

Yo guy's sorry it's been a while since I perused this section of the webs and this might not be the right board for this sort of stuff anymore but I need a lil help.

Running Debian 8 on a compaq 6910p, laptop older than my 6 year old niece...

Anyway wifi was working fine with both Network Manager and wicd installed at the same time for some reason, so I decided to move one and broke everything.

Wifi doesn't work at boot with just wicd installed, and rfkill list tells me it's hardblocked.

rfkill unblock wifi solves this issue but I have to do it after every boot. Putting that into a script to run at start up doesnt solve the issue though, I still have to do it manually, and sometimes it takes a couple of tries.

Any ideas folks? The laptop has a hardware switch and a way to disable in BIOS but both are on. The hardware switch is just a gay little touch sensitive light that conspicuously turns on during boot showing wifi is on, then it the light turns off and pressing it does nothing.. Only the command fixes the hardware block.

Sorry for being a little incoherent I've been taking a lot of speed while obsessing about trying to fix this. As I say it was working fine before I started messing with how I had it working before.

Can provide more info if needed just didn't want to spam too much , Thanks guys

and I just want to to know what you guys think is a good field to enter now and be able to run with in about 4-5 years of schooling
Sorry Im really bad at this "what is a good jobbing path" guys
I appreciate it, I just figure its time to get back to school and have a decent income and keep it clean
and maybe MAYBE one day, I can do a drug again, but in like 5, 6 years or so you know?

Statistics is good!
To work in tech with statistics, the best route hands-down is R. You can learn R on datacamp.com for free.
Data science is all the rage and when you really think about real-world problems you see why.
SQL is a program that just learning on your own can get you some pretty good jobs. When I was fresh out of grad school I got turned down for jobs because I didn’t know SQL. But it’s easy to pick up.

I just got thinking, and I'm wondering if there's any software for indexing your external drives for when you don't want to have them plugged in all the time, but so you know what's on them exactly.

An example use-case would be, you have too many drives to want to check through them manually, but you need a file you don't remember which you put them on. So instead you search a saved index (preferably with thumbnails also saved) of what they had on them when last plugged in, you find the file, so you plug in the drive the software said it was on. Only had to plug in the correct drive, no guesswork.

Is there such a thing?

Indexing isn't some magic thing. The state of the index and the removable drive would frequently be inconsistent. Maybe apply some self discipline instead. How are you ever going to attract a quality mate with hard drives that look like that?

Never looked for crypto news here, if that's somehow the wrong channel and more appropriate for /b/ then I'll nb this on my first reply.

So I got an actual relevant amount of dashcoin mined through Minergate. Minergate without warning discontinued Dashcoin (not to be confused with DASH) so now I need to get the hell out the many DSHcoins I got over there.

See these annoying stupid fucking emails to see what they're yanking my chain with :

"QR-code cannot be used as the verification code since the codes are generating and changing every 30 secs. If you don't have a cell phone, you can also use Authy App for your PC.

Note, that while withdrawing DSH to regular wallet no 2fa is needed."

First, I get told I need to enable 2FA to Withdraw DSH. Verifying email wasn't enough, in my profile, to enable 2FA, they ask me to scan a QR code (chem engineer with an MA in Electromagnetics (actual MA program for those who take chem/mech/electric/factory/civl engineering). Whatever, my last cell phone is a cheap regular cell that's kind of a burner, pay as you want monthly, plan changes pery payment at the gas station for those codes to add time monthly, the cheapest option possible, to have SMS, a keyboard, a real one, 60gb of space for music and a hell lot of buttons related to it, a disabled camera and a hard factory reset would be the only way to re-activate it)great speakers to like go "hey brah, listen to this tune and it doesn't sound like a shitty mono AM radio like anything I've ever seen cell related and most importantly, ports, lots of ports, 12 of 'em, not into this trend of turning phones into vending machines....anyway rant about cell phones over, smartphones spared..., oh wait, all websites want you to, especially vanilla websites want your goddamn cell number to send you an SMS for confirmation these days, fuck Europe (I'm Canadian, we've got the most free internet still in the 5 eyes alliance, we're kinda like Romania, if we couldn't pirate by the Supreme Court's orders regarding mp3's are legal, just increase CD+R/CD-R prices get higher than DVD's, hell even double layer DVD's).

Shit, I'm high as shit on some homemade hash from bag bottoms of bud, 8 oz into 1 oz, only have the basic 3 bag ice extraction kit, but maaang, that stuff is llike uncut moroccan blonde, out there, yeah dabs and whatever, 100% thc, I find that stuff, unlike oil which is upwards 90% THC max and likely other cannbinoids, wax or whatever this thing showed up to replace 'noids now that 8-9 US states legalized and Canada told it's RCMP and provincial polices in those who have them and no RCMP, SQ, OPP...Newfoundlan being the other? Anyway, total decriminalization of bud, but hash, oil, CBD oil are being put on schedule I. What? They are only...you know what I'm gonna say. I'm high as fuck and my real Xanax 2mg bars (prescription), had 6, makes me fucking talkative and mind-racing.

Now that I got your attention, minergate are full of shit, it won't let me move my DSH that is there to a local wallet, dashcoin-linux fails to synch, at leas it does on Mint 17.3 mate. Booted in Win7, dashcoin-windows seem to synch and create a wallet fiine, depending on if I'm using vpn, openvpn to vps, smart DNS from the vpn provider or my unproctected IP (well, it's got ipfiltlerX on Peerblock amongst wiith a list of 35 countries, same on IPBlock, the gui to iptables).

When I get it to synch, I go to minergate and it asks me to enter a code for 2-FA because I can't read the QR code with my cellphone. I'll take security over 0.9984 worth of BTC of Dashcoin. Then the motherfuckers at support tell me I don't need 2-FA for Dashcoin wallet transfer...bitches aren't being real.

Sorry for the long post, hoped my securityfag discouse entertainted you the TL;DR is that minergate are what a lot of people say they might be, scammers or at least not very honest and only an elite group of user get to have non-shitty service. They tell people transferring the Dashcoin they're gonna steal from you on August 31st, knowing there is almost nowhere else to transfer the stuff, except the daschoin-wallet local program, when it finally synchronizes which is completely rando. Help me save my DSH. Mining monero on a pool from command line from now on, fuck minergate.

I'm bringing closure to my OP, the "replier" told me something I was aware of so I just said that the problem is solved, I thought somebody would know about dashcoin-<insertOS> and that sync error that went on forever, for random reasons, guess your mind can't think of such very complex concepts. Hell, the only thing next in line to replace would be my processor/mobo, that's it. Everything else is pretty new.
My graphics card is fairly new, it's got a new power source, and it has more than enough drive storage.
Anyways here's an update since nobody was wondering...

There's a middle ground. You could have spent $140 on a newer motherboard and CPU and $100 on 16GB of DDR3.

Hey, odd question. I'm running windows seven still, and a little bit ago something weird happened to all my media files. It used to be that when I explored my files in a window set to "group by type" it would segregate all the media files into their specific categories (such as .mp3, .avi, .webm, etc.) But now in both my desktop HD and my external HDs, all the files in the same folder are just grouped together into one mass collection off all media files. It's only doing this for things that I've associated with VLC media player. All my image files are still categorized separates into .gif .png etc.

Why did this happen? Is this just my life now or is there a way to correct this? I can't figure out how to phrase this question in a way that returns useful google results

Sometimes Windows Explorer will decide that files should be organized a certain way. Too many MP3s? Now it's a media folder organized by artist because fuck you that's why. You can force it to have whatever columns you want, but you can also look that up for yourself.

Okay, so, I've always been interested in hardware. I've tore down old machines, watched a billion and one build guides, and even tried, and failed, to build a machine out of scraps from a bin. But finally, I am ready to construct my own machine out of new parts! This is not only a first build, but a budget build. I gave myself a budget of 400 dollars, and ended up blowing that budget by 200. Hopefully not in vain. All the parts have been ordered, and the last one shipped today, so come Friday, I will have all the parts and all weekend to build, though there *are* a few things I've been wondering about.

Let's start with this: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/diogenesofindy/saved/BYxvVn

This is everything I have ordered so far. I know I'm missing a GPU, but damn it, I just can't afford it. And I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but the prices are simply ridiculous, flat outrageous.

Out of curiosity, I threw that build up on another tech forum, and they said it was a great budget build, but if they were to do anything, they'd get an I3 8100, and the mobo to fit it. Making it this: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/diogenesofindy/saved/v3wQVn

Now, if I were to return the mobo and cpu, I'd save a good 20 bucks, and the benchmark for the 8100 is 36 points better, according to http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i3-8100-vs-Intel-Core-i3-6300/3942vs3536

At this point I should say, I am currently using an old as hell dell inspiron 530S. I haven't ever cracked open the case, but ik it's packing an Intel pentium E2200 (the benchmark comparison is pitiful http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-Dual-E2200-vs-Intel-Core-i3-6300/m1712vs3536 )

It's also got <4 gigs of, what I assume, DDR2 ram, though, like I said, I haven't opened it since I got it second hand. I'm running Linux Mint's Sarah on it atm. The fossil can't even run undertale or minecraft even in their lowest settings, and the fan sounds like a helicopter taking off. Needless to say, I really don't want to use it for much longer. I'm honestly afraid it'll catch fire.

Basically, what I want to know is, is the performance boost between the two CPUs great enough for me to return the 6300 and mobo, wait for the refund, and then wait for the new parts? Or will is it so minor, I won't really notice it while I play MC and surf the interwebz? Whatcha think guise?

I remember the days of collecting all the old junk computers and fixing them up. I had a room full of computers. All almost useless. Sure I spread my data amongst them. Some were used for storing movies and what not. Some for old games. Real old games. But other than that I could only do basic stuff. But it is an important learning phase and the best way to learn to handle the parts and trouble shoot before spending lots of money. Lol there was one computer that would freeze up, and I would kick it and it would start to work again. Now I have several PCs and a visualization host.

What sort of small hacks have you thrown together to solve small problems?

> have a script that kills all my torrents when the VPN goes down. It just watches tun0 and then runs a killall on a couple programs when that dies.
> made some small modifications to screenkeys that says what some hotkeys do for recording some videos. So now it says "Ctrl-Z (Undo)" instead of just "Ctrl-Z".

I think we all throw together artless solutions like this, and I was just wondering what sorts of things other people get up to.

>But I'm a dumbass and sometimes forget I have a torrent client running in the background. I just don't want to catch a strike in the time between when I do something stupid and when I realize I did something stupid.

Does the client let you pick which adapter to use? Tixati does and you can pick the VPN client. If it disconnects your torrents all stop.

Building my own hyper-visor visualization host from scratch using Arch Linux and KVM. Currently have Windows 10 installed on an Msata card that is a pcie sata card being passed through to the container along with a 1080 ti gpu and a usb 3.0 card. I will make my host os clean and base it like qubes os and make remove it's network capability. I will have an openwrt server with the NIC passed through to it and use it to distribute internet amongst my VMs and also make my host update over one of those servers as-well since it doesn't have LAN. I will have multiple template VMs for different linux distros and then different snapshots for different purposes all using libvirt sandbox to only share the x session for the requested application instead of the entire Desktop Environment. All this and it will be a multi user host instead of a single user like qubes. A super computer for the family. Managing all vpns, cell phones, back ups and and anything else your family needs. Gaming, surveillance, weather, homework etc. I want virtual android and IOS nodes that your phone will interact with over 4G if your signal is adequate. So not quite a small every day hack, but a bunch of medium sized projects crammed into my life's dream. A super computer in every home.
