>> | >>122033 Corporations used services provided by AT@T, to name one, back when cell phones I don't think even remotely existed. Although two way radios, fm radio, uses trunks, 'to communicate from one to another.' These, AT@T, others, services allowed trunk access to make possible switching to long distance calls for corporations from local lines.
Trunkin I gues you could call it, has many applications, cell phones, whatever communication you can really think of. They differ greatly of course. I believe home networking is just as trunk access, switching, as anything else. As well, say lighting, um, concerts. It is communication from one party to anothers party.
This is from mostly memory from the past. And lots of studying stuff that may seem insignificant or boring. I am not that old but have worked for, with significant persons of technology. Me doing work for people who worked on components like zip drive, cd technology. Professors from like MIT, others who worked on .gov technology. technology that makes today's technology what it is. Although not knowing part of what these people are talking about, I guess i seemed enough to carry on hours of conversation. Which older technology seems basically boring, applying it to today's technology, it makes sense. If one cannot understand older technology, how will they actually understand here and now technology. Sure you can do it, but knowing the background of like tor, understanding DNS basics. It is all worthwhile. - Anyway, a hacker of significance. John Draper. AKA Captain Crunch. Why capn crunch nick. More than one reason. However, he tried to sell known technology, among other known uses of switching. Made some money but not a great venture. What he was selling was; simple tones would make phone services do it's thing, like corporations could utilize long distance, calling for commerce, etc. By switching into trunk lines. Others learned to do this also. He furthered these but few were interested. So, after Apple, and all this.
He did make a whistle, it put out a 2600Mhz frequency. So could make long distance calls. He learned this from laying lines. What they can and are meant to accomplish by which means. This whistle, one could go to a pay phone and whistle and access the trunk and switch. Free phone calls.
By coincidence, the cereal Capt'n Crunch had a toy prize, a whistle that could produce that same frequency. 'Wanna buy a whistle, wanna buy a whistle" could be heard around public pay phones.
My experience, I was in Denver, the rough neighborhood,, before crack epidemic, vietnam vets were the street. Speed, acid. This guy was making a call and blowing a whistle into it. Captain Crunch whistle that he kinda tried to hide a little bit.
No he was not crazy, I knew he knew how to get free calls. By then, he tried a one part system, no deal, tried another combo, then the 3 part did work.
Calls (local were, 20 25 cents.
I was short for a dime, malfunction, whatever. but as he accomplished his goal, I asked for a dime, he rudely turned to me and said get your own. Meaning get your own Captain Crunch cereal whistle. I said, I was just asking for a dime. Anyway, that area was upgraded in it's trunk lines. But, the 3 part motions still worked. https://garydrobson.com/2014/06/03/the-origins-of-phreaking/ http://phreaking.wikia.com/wiki/Blue_box bla bla bla Comment too long.
