I'm teaching my self to use unreal engine and blender from youtube and other online sources.

Any one else self taught on interesting software?

Dude I would love it so much if they would integrate custom C++ methods into that node editor.

I've tried to learn Unreal Engine C++ projects so many times but shit is daunting. Even just as a read-only visualizer it would be hugely helpful.

You can write a little thing for blueprints. But that's not remotely useful for the native C++ workflow.

I have a 3d printer and would love to learn to make my own models in blender. I also want to learn to animate using Source Film Maker. Maybe a freelancable skill.

Yes. Still working on it. I some how made the cup, plate and liquid a single object. Now when I change the liquid from clear (water) to brown (coffee) it changes the plate and cup also to coffee colored. Some times self teaching is hard

It looks like you need normal mapping and much better lighting. You should also look into food photography so you can look at a donut with a critical eye.

Yeah i don't know shit about lighting.
This is the default lighting turned way up just under the point where it over exoses. I changed the plane its all on to white.

I plan on making this into a proper scene when I'm done. I'm gonna make a spoon and rest the donut on the edge of the plate and possibly a cloth napkin and make a nice back drop.
The donut is just a torus, does it really need normal mapping?

Its nearing completion.
I think im gonna give up on putting condensation on the glass as it makes it look either like its got lube smeared on it if its too big or wierd and gritty if its too small.

Im gonna add a bong and a lighter and some nugs to the scene too.

Donut needs more texturing and I think some subsurface scattering on both the icing and the donut would go a long way.

Latest render, changed a few things and started making a grinder.

I think some time in the next few months once I get good enough with blender I'm gonna list a bunch of 3d models for sale on turbosquid.

A render of the grinder before i put the screw threads on it.
I can't figure out how to shade it smother with out also smoothing out the teeth too so when you look a bit too close you see its a bit angular. I call it "stylized".

Since you're modelling an alu grinder, maybe try to model it the same way it's made:
Subtractive, start with a plain cylinder and use boolean modifiers to remove the parts where the milling tool travels. You can probably firgure out the path if you take a pen and try to trace the places between the teeth.
Also you can probably simulate the cutting tool using a path and extrude along

Turns out i made it like how you said but didnt use a boolen, I only know what like 4 modifiers do at this point.

I subdivided the top face where the teeth go. Then just highlighted ever other one then G and then Z move it up.

I accidently deleted the donut material because i labled it wrong half way through. I found much butter ones that I have't bothered to do yet. I got really side tracked on making the bong and shit.
I'll finish the donut eventually.
This is the first project I've ever made in blender.

The glass is nice. I'm not sure what's up with the donut, I haven't done that project in a really long time.
