Anyone have experience using a high refresh CRT on a modern PC?

I’m basically clueless, I hear different adapters can add input lag or only support certain refresh rates. Lookin to get the most out of this p220f which supports up to 166 hz

Can anyone vouch for a specific adapter?

If you have a DVI out you can get a passive one that will work 99% because DVI includes analogue VGA pins.

Also checking the stats
https://www.cnet.com/products/viewsonic-p220f-crt-monitor-22-series/
you see that the tradeoff you have to take with CRTs in regards to resolution & refresh rate leaves you with something that's not really practical if you play modern games.
The sweet spot for this monitor is 1600x1200x85hz. But if you run it at anything close to fullhd you only get a measly 75hz which will give you eye strain.

alright cool. I ended up going with a VGA to display port adapter by delock

Do you know if doing a custom resolution is possible to force a 16:9 image with letterbox on a 4:3 monitor? or what the downsides might be beside obviously a smaller image. I'm fine with 4:3 i just think it might be interesting to mess around with

So apparently people frequently push past the resolution/refresh charts you'd read on cnet. This guys computer has the same stats as mine (technically less if you watch the vid, vs what cnet says) and he does 1920x1440 at 100hz

You can "overclock" CRTs but usually not by such a significant amount. You can try it of course but it's usually just the next highest refresh rate (like from 75->80hz)

Also consider the possibility that this youtube guy is full of shit.

The best adapter you can get is as cheap as possible. If one thing we know, there is an adapter for anything you could possible want to do.

I run a CRT as a second monitor when I'm being a nostalgiafag. This adaptor works great, no perceptible lag.

It's not even for being a nostalgia fag. I got this thing hooked up and the image is fucking beautiful.

1280x1024 makes LCD 1080p look like trash, and I'm able to run RDR2 with almost every setting maxed and a locked 75fps. Basically no motion blur because of the way CRTs display images.

Now I need to buy a backup because I'm going to be sad when this thing dies on me some day.

Looks like an xbox 360 controller
