So now that firefox has really went to shit, are there any decent non-google alternatives? Tor is kewl, but the DL speed makes me want to kill myself

There are Firefox forks, Chromium forks, and shit you shouldn't use. Try Waterfox and support it if you like it.

Here are the two alternatives I have used which are decent enough. You still sometimes run into problems because some websites are trash, but these are very usable browsers:
Pale Moon - Forked from Firefox years ago, for me this is the perfect balance of keeping all the good stuff from firefox and rejecting the rest.
Vivaldi - Based on chromium, so still google influenced I guess, but less so that Chrome. A good backup to Pale Moon when some website just "need" Chrome.

TOR browser, as cringey using TOR for everything is, is supposedly just an older LTS version of Firefox but maintained by the TOR team instead of by Mozilla

That's not true, icecat gets regular updates nowadays. It's just based on LTS firefox.

Librewolf is modern firefox but with sane defaults
