I want to start learning verilog, so I thought I'd buy an FPGA and start programming.

Basically there's so much choice that I am ahving a hard time to pick a board so I'm asking here for advice. My requirements are like this:

> cheap

> stallman-friendly toolchain and programmer

I'd appreciate anything you can tell me

Also ask yourself if learning wouldn't be accomplished just as well with simulation if that's really the goal. No need to buy something you won't be able to do anything useful with for a while.
