You can easily get more than just the core 3 by stuff you can find on google. You don't need the whole lot right away if any are missing. Its not like certain earlier editions where entire classes became obsolete or only worked with certain books.

I''ve bought most of them eventually (and probably wouldn't have without actually trying it first), but if you want to know it's good before you fork out what is quite a lot of money (even if you buy it cheap on Amazon) then I don't blame you at all. Sabotender (I have no idea what it is except a big pile of on line PDFs) has a few readable PDFs and there's always the usual methods.

I need help filling out a narrative module that can be used for most fantasy settings. Can you help develop some extra NPCs and encounters?

It is named "Pall of the Mana Fort"

The central story revolves around an enormously tall Grand Inquisitor summoning the PCs to his titular fortress to hire them to aid in an investigation.

The Church, using its independence from the Crown, has initiated a formal inquiry into the means by which the Ochre Emperor ascended the throne after defeating the Witch of the Rod and Ham Hills. It is rumored that the Emperor enlisted the dark magicks of the foreign sorcerer Rusputin. If true, the Church will present their findings to the nobility who are likely to dethrone him.

If the player characters do nothing to effect the course of world events, the raven hairred, blue eyed Rion people (loosely modeled on the Rohirrim of Middle Earth) will save him at the last moment. Their cavalry will narrowly win the day... But of course the players may change this.

Do the players side with the Inquisitor? Is the Emperor a villian or a hero? The players should have agency in answering these questions.

In any case, the Emperor will eventually be overthrown within 8 years. I am planning a sequel named "Pall of the Rion."

Ideas?

Have a default sequence of events is a good idea but beyond that you probably just need to map the major players, what they will try to do and the means they have to do it, their motivations and values will be enough for a smart DM to decide when they might switch sides or be won over. As you know players will always find a way to break things. If you have a good DM/GM they will then have to actually work out the likely outcome. Make sure you have the tools so DMs can wing it when the group not only sets up an anarcho syndicalist commune but does so having won the trust and respect of half the inquisition and a good chunk of the emperor's forces and then start trying (quite effectively) to figure out how to win the Rion over.

Assuming dark magic was involved there will have to be people trying to stop you from finding evidence. Initially they will be fairly mundane enemies but if the player start amassing proof then the users of dark magic will no longer have a reason to hide their nature from the players. So you'll need a mix of "mundane" enemies like mercenaries and assassins but also more sinister creatures. Warlocks and devils maybe, dark priests, cultists or is this dark magic even more alien?

You're also going to need to plan and detail how the inquisition and Church forces move. They will no doubt act if the players go turncoat. Perhaps the emperor is noble but took a dark path? Is he redeemable? Do the players need to take action to set him right? I guess he'll fight against forces from both sides but will have other allies.

I suppose the first place to investigate would be the site of the defeat of the witch so maybe you need remnants of her armies. Suspicious locals and those agents trying to hide the truth, maybe not always through violence either. Lots of opportunities for skill checks, puzzles and roleplay there.

I don't think at this point we can do more than ask questions but maybe that helps? When I read your post that's what I thought of.

Okay. If I were playing, my entire goal would be to slit the emperor's throat in the name of the blood cults slain at the hands of the templars. Once the emperor is dead, well, actually, that's the end of your entire campaign so, sorry, got ahead of myself.
I would continually hunt the followers of this Ochre emperor, and if I die, there would be others to take my place.

I want this to be made into a vidya. I am super stoked about its release. There is at least one good thing to look forward to in this year. I have abandoned all hope in a new VTMB or World of Darkness tier game after that CCP fiasco which at least with Kult I foresee opportunity for written greatness on the order of a WoD game.

What do you think /v/? Do you think this will provide a background for a new VTMB tier game in the future? Crossposted from /v/ realized it belongs more here, although having a KULT vidya would be great. Your opinions on this game? System? Setting? Lore?

So this old game site I used to lurk is trying to restart.
It was a play-by-post fantasy RPG, lots of games being run simultaneously in a shared setting, and pretty loose-and-fast rules. There was a beginner's area, which was a tavern outside of town, where parties would form before they headed off.
Characters from all kinds of games and settings would show up, I guess the tavern was one of those Munden's Bar type dimensional nexuses, and the town had three minotaurs from three different settings, the sheriff, the healer, and the librarian, all with wildly varying personalities, appearances and biologies, all very surprised to see another minotaur, lol.
The adventures there were a pleasure to read, and the moderation style wasn't as overbearing as some places I've tried to play, so in the name of enlightened self-interest I'll signal-boost, because there just isn't enough good play by post RPing these days.
http://outlanda.com/

They need players, writers, GMs, artists, web designers, admins and mods, I'm sure 420chan has all of that, so if you want to help build a world, go get some.

Kal Jerico is, in all likelyhood Ciaphas Cain's father. He's the governor's son-turned-bounty hunter, who got hitched to an Inquisitor. Usually the schola progenium doesn't pick up underhive rats and send them off to be Commissars (as is noted in the books by Amberley Vail) so he had to have been born to someone important. Cain himself notes he was born on a hive world, and his uncle (I think his uncle) was a bounty hunter. He doesn't name the world he was born on, citing he doesn't actually know.

I'd say it's a pretty solid theory, what about you?

Painting miniatures (and Battletech)

I decided to start painting miniatures as a hobby to rebuild dexterity in my hands and decided on Battletech so I purchased a few mechs from Iron Winds (an Atlas II, Ymir, Lu Wei Bing, Anubis, and an Osiris). My first question is what are all the tools am I gonna need for assembly? So far I was gonna buy an exacto knife, files, and a diagonal cutter. Any super glue work for this or do I need to purchase some special stuff like citadel sells? What am I missing? Also recommendations on brush sets and paint/primer brands would be appreciated.

This first time I kind of just bought what I wanted to paint but if I decide to keep going I think next purchase I want to put together a fieldable lance on the chance I decide to actually play. So anyone with experience in BT, any suggestions as far as building an assualt lance around some of the mechs I already purchased?

Super glue is super glue. If they're metal figurines any super glue will do. Just make sure you get a brand with a good applicator and reasonable price. If you're using HDP then poly cement is the shit you need.

I main Guard, but I now have some Death Guard and Primaris Marines because I got the box set.

Havent tried the Guard out yet this addition, but thusfar I'm liking a lot of the changes that have been added to the tabletop and the lore progression.

Just thinking.
I know the whole "adventure party" tradition is ripped from Lord Of The Rings, and The Fellowship Of The Ring was that size to try and sneak past the Ork armies and monsters into Mordor, but it just seems odd to have all these 5/6-strong variegated mini-gangs tromping around looking for caves and unexplored underground labyrinths. Just spontaneously forming in taverns and heading out to the nearest underground structure and just assuming it's going to be full of monsters and loot instead of fucking bats and bat shit.

I mean that size party isn't much good for anything except bodyguarding, courier work, and banditry, really.
Are there really any historical or fantasy parallels to the RPG party before Tolkien? There were Sindbad's crews, but they were pretty much expressly redshirts. I guess even within Tolkien there was the Dwarf party that Bilbo accompanied, but that wasn't exactly a "party", more a "band", like the Vikings in Eaters Of The Dead. With a Band you can get things done, especially a homogeneous one, like a pack of Arthur's kniggits, or Charlemagne's paladins. The ragtag party isn't much good for anything but exploration, and they're just lucky that every dungeon is basically unguarded, with security depending on local wildlife wandering in and eating adventurers, and the occasional trap which must have to be reset every time a cave horse or a cave elk steps on one. I guess the wildlife running into the traps is what feeds the Orc guards. Considering they never seem to just buy some goddamn food from the local town, apart from maybe raiding a farm or two. So that explains why they leave to door open and unguarded, so the things wander in. Although it would make more sense to set the traps outside.
