there's one park that has a police station right next to it and a library within the park. i would never smoke at that park because i'll get a fine. if im at the library doing research i'll walk to the edge of the park to smoke. if im on a beach watching fireworks for the 4th of july, i will smoke a few cigarettes on the beach while laying down enjoying the show. however, i'll save and throw away my butts after. in any case, if there is a kid near me, i will not smoke or walk somewhere else to smoke.

There's many howtos already out there, but this is mine.
This one is locally produced.

So you want to smoke a pipe.

To smoke a pipe, you will need a pipe.
At a first pipe you don't need to (and should not) spend a lot, and might be detrimental to your experience if you're scared of ruining it (you can). And a more expensive pipe does not necessarily smoke better.
Your options,
Corn cob pipe:
  • Very affordable
  • All of them smoke well
  • But not "classy"
Clay Pipes
  • Very clean taste, only taste the tobacco
  • Cannot burn out, can handle being tossed in a fire
  • Usually cheap too
  • Available with stems
  • May have too tight draw
  • Fragile, don't drop it
Cheap briar
  • Varying quality, not necessarily dependent on price
  • It's a pipe.

So you have a pipe.
Now to smoke your pipe, you also need
  • Tobacco (duh)
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Lighter/Matches
  • Pipe tool (for stoking/packing your lit pipe, emptying, etc)
Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

Hey, noticed I never got back to you on the flakes.
FLAKE TOBACCO stuff:
Pressed tobacco comes in a bunch of different forms,
most common is flake. Looks like rectangular slices, vary in thickness from thin like a bacon strip and thick leather. Can be handled in a bunch of ways, easiest is just to rub it out a bit and stuff like regular tobacco. Either just between your fingers to keep it a bit more thick than usual, keep some flaky characteristics, or put a flake between your palms and really grind at it to get it to mixture type fluffiness.
You can also do some variation of fold or roll it up and just put it in your pipe, but it'll smoke very differently than usual, and also slower. In my experience it can be hard to get it the right thickness, since it expands a bit when you light it up. What I will say though is that it can be more resistant to windy conditions when you get it right. Lighting is more of a process too, important to get it evenly lit all round, but when you've got it going it will keep lit more easily.
Something inbetween would be to cube cut it, just take some scissors or a knife and cut against the grain to make a diy cube cut. Much easier to deal with than folding, but keeps most of the burn characteristics. Just pour some into the bowl and you're done, it's so dense so no packing needed. Easier to get lit, cause of the increased surface, but also will smoke slower cause of the density of the cubes. In short, best of both worlds. Only, there's a small risk of the whole bowl of tobacco falling out when turning the bowl over to get excess ash off. Haven't figured out if that has to do with cube-size or if maybe the bowl was too smooth and uncaked, too little friction. Also a cube can block the bowl-hole, and the last part can be hard to finish, but I figure it'd be an easy fix to fill up enough rubbed out tobacco to cover the airway and it'd fix both problems. Or maybe put it in a cob, they feel like they have more bowl "grip" inside, rather than the smooth wood.

Then there's coins looks kinda like flakes but are round and spun, cut from a tobacco log kinda. You can actually buy a whole log, but it's a super uncommon format, only one I know is Peter Heinrichs curly block, pic related, would really like to try it sometime.
Can treat them mostly like flake, except they're easier to just fold and stuff, the shape makes packing less of a hardship to get right, easier to light. Just bunch some up and put them in.

Then there's cake.
Essentially just uncut flakes, big brownie shaped thingie you carve flakes from. Tends to be more tasty and potent because of the tobacco getting to meld together better as one uniform big piece in the tin. Just needs a sharp knife and you can carve as thin/thick pieces as you'd like, or the weather demands. Thick will resist wind better, but it'll also taste different. Some will taste weird if you slice them too thin, burn too quick.
(Also not to be confused with crumble cake, which is just mixture pressed together into cubes. Those you just break pieces off with your fingers and crumble up. Real cake has layers of the actual leaves, which you cut against the grain to get the whole mix.)

Smoking shag tobacco, with a rolled filter, inside a permanent targard cig holder?

File: 1570660831108.jpg -(547132B / 534.31KB, 983x1636) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size. Smoking shag tobacco, with a rolled filter, inside a permanent targard cig holder?
Say what you want but I like rolling and smoking shag much more than the common cigarette, DRUM in particular. It tastes incredible, actually has a great smell to it, and works really well with spliffs sprinkled with hash. It's also fun and easy to roll due to its fluffy texture. For a spliff it works best to have a hand-rolled cardstock tip, so no THC is lost during filtration, but for those times where I just want the tobacco, I'd really prefer to not have the absolute stinkiest fingertips and breath.

So my question is, would rolling a shag cigarette with a fiber filter tip, then smoking that cig through a TarGard brand "permanent filter" cig holder make a significant difference, if any? (with regards to lingering odours on clothing/skin/breath, taste, smoothness) Seeing how much Tar builds up in one after a few puffs...it has to at least have some minor benefit, right?

Sounds reaaal pretentious, I know, but if doing this makes the draw, taste, and hit of the smoke feel a bit more palatable and 'clean', I gotta try it. Does anyone have any experience with hand-rolling with filters, cig-holders, or both that can give me some insight on what you thought of it compared to something like common packs of smokes? Blues, Reds, Menthols, or what have you?

Lastly, is owning a 'designated leather smoking glove' for holding and smoking cigs a thing that smokers have done at any point in history? Or is it a retarded idea I just came up with? That and hand sanitizer is the only thing I could see preventing that unavoidable smoke smell from sticking to your fingers.

Genius, pointless, or retarded? Let me know

I have been diagnosed with schizoaffective, thus there are times when I go through psychotic episodes which consist of unidentifiable entities appearing, being really fucking tense and hearing voices. What I found out is that taking in a lot of nicotine basically kills the psychotic episode. When I was smoking about 7 Red Marlboros a day, I had to basically breath through the cigarette and smoke about half-two thirds of one of those.

Does anybody here have similar experiences?

is nicotine bad for memory? i see a lot of lawyers that smoke, i wonder if this shit actually helps them perform better because they're less stressed/have an active stimulant while working.

I find that its a mild stimulant and a parasympathomimetic so it falls into the category of a mild anti-psychotic much like rispiridone's function

It literally calms your nerves and cools your head.

A smoke in the morning and a coffee can turn you around after as little as 4h of sleep.

I smoke when I'm soldering to steady my hands and clear my thought process.

So I've been living in Central Europe for nearly three years, and I love tobacco. But actual tobacco smoke is forbidden in my wife's family home, since the smell sticks to clothing. I'm a 31-year-old man and I can't even smoke outside, because my wife's mother is an ex-smoker and adamantly complains of the smell. I've went out and bought myself a pack of Luckies and spent a few hours chilling in a park and smoked half the pack in the process, went for a long walk to air out my clothes, and I still got shit for it. Fucking ridiculous. I'm allowed e-cigarettes, but by now I'm sick and tired of vaping - the strongest liquid available does appease my Nicotine addiction, but the actual nature of vaping is not enjoyable to me. It lacks the actual smoke sensation - that smoky burning taste. A friend of a friend recently turned me on to this Snuff shit, which is some sort of fine tobacco powder which is insufflated up through one of the nostrils and possibly into the sinuses. Now, as a user that enjoys and regularly snorts crushed IR stimulant pills and occasionally other drugs in powder form, I really dig the sensation of snorting tobacco. I find this particular product has an initial sharp burning sensation and then a mild menthol-like cooling sensation, followed by a faint tobacco after taste in the back of the throat.

Per my own preferences, I really enjoy the product. The one problem I have with it is there is a lack of that "kick" I've grown so accustomed to and often crave in my addiction to stimulants. When I first encountered Snuff, I expected a strong nicotine kick of some sort, but I find with this particular product, there is no sudden kick of Nicotine addiction relief, which leads me to hit the product often and in rather large amounts.

Any one care to chime in with some discussion about Tabaka / Snuff? Perhaps any stronger brands to recommend rather than "Gawith Original"? I would be much obliged to find out that there is perhaps a superior product available that really hits hard with the pleasant effects of Nicotine, for those who appreciate this drug's effects.

Also, I find the sensation of a few hits of Snuff along with a cup of strong black coffee is fantastic.

Any thoughts to share, /tobacco/?

Yeah i really enjoy snuff. If you want some hard hitting ones you can try: Redbull (from the same company that makes Gawith), Med no.99 (i don't use it too much cause it hits extremely hard) and maybe some Bernard tabak products like Aecht Altbayerischer Schmalzler or Brazil Doppelfermentier (they have a really interesting smell of smoke, coffee, chocolate and some fruits and they have a pretty solid amount of nicotine). I've used a lot of snuff in my life so if you have any questions i'll be happy to answer them.

>Also, I find the sensation of a few hits of Snuff along with a cup of strong black coffee is fantastic.
That was my favorite, McChrystals Original (most common snuff here) with a strong espresso. Sadly, I am incredibly resilient to nicotine so I just started snorting it using the middle part of a ballpoint pen, in the hopes of catching the buzz. I gave it up since I barely felt the effect anymore.
From what I've heard, the hardest hitting snuff is Taxi or NTSU from South Africa, or A+S Menthol from Switzerland (it's rare to obtain offline, so I never tried).
If you want a steady nicotine supply with the initial kick, try snus (the strongest one being Siberia -80C in the red tin).

MMs are the best, better than briar in some ways (sucks more moisture out of the smoke in my experience, and always easier draw), wouldn´t keep briars if it werent for some blends just tasting more full in them, and the sentimentality of it.

I actually kinda by accident did exactly his routine just the other week, a former amphetamine junkie friend was heading to another city for studies and I lent him a corncob and traded him my bag of tobacco remains (tobacco I didnt like, bit too hard, or just got dry all tossed and mixed together into a collector bag (not that bad actually, smoked some myself every now and then when I couldnt choose anything else)) for some hash. Will be curious to see how it smokes after having been really broken in when he returns.

I'd love to acclimatize your pipes and comb your silky hair but we're too far apart.

I kinda have a solution for you (pic related) you can use a battery operated inflator/deflator for inflatable beds and adapt one of the nozzles to fit your pipe's mouthpiece onto the intake anduse one of the others to adapt gas mask filters to the exhaust so you don't fog or stank the adjacent area. I tried making a turbocharged bong like ten years ago but the smoke that comes out of it tastes like electric motors and batteries but they suck like a motherfucker and it will hotbox a room in less than a minute.

Why are cigarettes easier to smoke than pot? Im not a cig smoker really, but I bought a pack over the weekend and each one goes down smooth. On the other hand weed has been hard on my lungs for the past year or two. I clean my pipes but each hit leaves me wheezy. Is there a reason for this?

>no idea how people say this stuff is "harsh"
Just different constitutions, or an oral chemistry that isn't compatible. Pipe smokers know it well cause they experience a tobacco that "bites" (feels like an acid burn in your mouth) sooner or later, and it differs from person to person which blends/types of tobacco do. Figure it might be similar with cigarettes, only they don't have as diverse mixes of tobacco so if you find one harsh it's likely all will be.
Have a friend that can't handle any smoke for shit, while I could always suck down almost anything without feeling a thing.

Also might recommend to try other forms of tobacco instead of cigs if you like tobacco, it's not all the same. Cigars/pipes is a much more gradual and fine-tuned thing.
A friend of mine I introduced to pipes can't stand cigarettes/swedSnus anymore because the effect is so much less refined and elegant.
