I just learned I can buy half a kilo of tobacco leaves for 7 bucks in my country and after running it through a tobacco shredder for 19 bucks, I have perfect tax free tobacco.

You can do that in most countries.
But it's not perfect tobacco, the curing process is different, also it's just 1 kind, every cigarette consists of 2 or 3 types of tobacco, except in canada, where cigarettes taste like shit.
I've smoked home tobacco before and it's really not that great, the flavour is just not there, it tastes very dull and non-aromatic. It's not an enjoyable smoke.

You can buy several kinds from the right sites though. If you buy burley only I can understand why'd it be bland.
They kinda banned it in my country though. Still legal to buy whole leaves, but the kind that used to be sold (destemmed) got hit with taxation because it had been slightly prepared, even if it wasn't ready for smoking. Nobody selling the whole leaves domestically. And if customs doesn't think it's "whole leaf" enough you'll still get fined and taxed even though the product is sold as whole leaf, probably why there hasn't cropped up any whole leaf shops after the ban.

It's a while back, but I just got my first batch of whole leaves (had only checked up on it repeatedly in that post, and missed my opportunity, found a new source now though).
I don't smoke cigs though, I only do pipes, but damn these fuckers are tasty.
Smoke is much softer and nicer, I assume because of all the stuff they usually put on there. Top & base notes, humectants. Etc.

A slightly more wholesome experience, in short.. Really get to know tobacco in all it's naked glory. Super cheap too, kinda weird shipping though lol, opened the box and it was just fucking filled to the brim with leaves, more tobacco than I've probably smoked in all my life combined. Not even some kind of spacer to keep the different kinds to themselves, just stacked on top of each other.

Just an update to >>174585 , rolled together some of the leaves into a hometwisted rope thingy, and pressed it underneath some 10 and 5kg plates I have around for the liftin', wrapped inside foil. Turned into a neat lil tobacco puck thing. Only did a couple of days under there, but looks much more like the real stuff than just cutting the straight leaves, smells better too. About equal parts burley/virginia and some oriental (no idea which sadly, that's all the listing said at the leaf nethshop) for spice.
Pic related, kinda neat how you can still see the individual rope strands inside the puck, even though it's completely solid.

Pic showing the puck shape better, also shows how the pressing had an effect. The yellow virginia leaf on top was all just plain yellow before, the brown is the burley and/or virginia seeping into it.

Have another rope under the plates now, gonna let that stay under there for at least a week instead of just the couple of days. Or just let it stay there til' I've smoked up this puck. See how much difference it'll make, or won't make.

Haven't tried smoking it yet, but smells delicious. Maybe I'll have some tonight, will make a post when I do.
