What videogames do you think would translate to great movies? I think Zelda Majora's Mask would be a great movie if made by Hayao Miyazaki. Also, is it possible for a videogame movie to be good?

I have a week off. It's gonna be nice and rainy, I just wanna bundle up in my blanket and play something cozy. What are your favorite comfy games?

Could be something gameplay-focused like the Skate series, or even something creepy like Silent Hill. Maybe you like roaming around on Morrowind and soaking in some lore and hoarding books? Would like to hear what you guys enjoy

I'm teaching my self unreal engine and C++. Every days work is better than the day before. But since I am work on a long project it's based of my shitty previous work.

I've restarted my project 3 times. It's a personal project and I'm self taught so this is part of the process, but it's hard to stay motivated and focused when I keep having to crumple up my work and throw it away and start over again.

Pic is random screen shot of stuff i threw away because I made it too overly complicated and jumbled.

This post is just me ranting into the void to let off stress.

I've started using unity again recently too. I've attempted and given up on game projects before, but I've kinda learned from that now. The first big thing I learned is to keep the project small in scope and realistic. Nothing that's too hard or crazy to program/draw, short game, etc. One of my problems in earlier projects was I wanted to immediately make the best fucking game ever and kept tacking on new ideas halfway into my project.

The other thing I've done is spent a great deal more time in the planning phase. In previous projects I would only have things half through out, so halfway through coding the thing I'd realize I needed something more or that something didn't work and had to rewrite game systems constantly while the game lost its identity. This time I've got the mechanics totally worked out and the vast majority of the story written before I've even started the unity project. Even have some concept drawings from a friend for some characters and locations.

So I'm hoping I might actually finish this project for once. My problem has never been a lack of knowledge, coding comes pretty easy to me. Tends to be losing interest or getting frustrated by setting big unrealistic goals.

Good luck to you OP I hope you're able to finish your project. And my advice is to plan extensively and for your first game make it simple. Lots of classic games have one or two simple mechanics that they flesh out to their limit, and that's a good way to make a great first game.

Yeah, I think that this reason is the impetus for the modern divide between more "hardcore" and "casual" gamers. People were upset that anyone could be a gamer now, so they invented new terminology to keep themselves exclusive.

The problem with this divide is that it implies value, not that it's a false dichotomy. For any media some people dip their toes and some go nuts. You don't have time attention and headspace to be a seriously into everything but if we don't try a lot of different things we're missing out in life.

This bullshit is the same as music. Being a snob or thinking it makes you better is absolute fucking delusion. You've sacrificed something else and are a filthy casual at most things. But lets not pretend that some people don't know more about, have more passion and better understand some things than other people. That doesn't mean the enjoyment everyone else gets isn't as valid or real, but they are putting less in, in total. If they wanted more out of that medium they'd have to dig deeper as they'd quickly exhaust what they're doing. The real issue is the sense of elitism. I'm not sure it's simple as the doors to their club are open as the doors to their club are open to people who criticised them for it years ago and still treat them like shit now. However proving them right is not the way to go.

If you don't want to clean it, replace old hardware or add a fan, you can adjust the temp limit/target temperature where your GPU starts reducing its processing power in response to generating too much heat. Think MSI Afterburner and similar should be able to handle this.

Better than risking hard locks. OSs can recover from most situations that force a power-off condition or lockup, but it's a bit like smoking: any one could be the one that corrupts things in a very annoying way.

When the weather starts getting warmer, though, that's your cue to use compressed air on all your shit in preparation for summer. Takes like 10 minutes and resolves many problems.

R u made of money? I hope he just cleans it and gets a proper afterburner profile going. Don't know about Nvidia but and doesn't really like after burner as it conflicts with the CCC or what ever the new profile is. I had some trouble getting my fans to spin properly and tried using afterburner but I kept suffering hard resets on any DX11 game. I thought I was over heating but afterburner insisted peak temp was below 50c during gameplay and CCC didn't seem to read any activity. Turns out that custom fan curve was conflicting with with the CCC and causing the video card to disconnect. Not only that but the driver wasnt functioning properly so the fans would never spin up using just CCC. After getting the correct driver, had to roll back for my hardware and os combo, it spins up fine and I've had no hard resets since. Sounds like OP needs to unleash some Google Fu and look the tech forums.

Thimbleweed bogged down near the end and then made up for it with a great ending.

Had to convince my friend who's into PnCs already to finish it. It's a good game but don't be afraid of glancing at shreds of a walkthrough in some parts. Sierra not running their $2.99/min 900 lines anymore so no need for profitably excessive obscurity.

Adventure games don't get enough appreciation anymore though. Last good one I played was Paradigm. Has a rare 10/10 on Steam, definitely worth a wishlisting: https://store.steampowered.com/app/600370/Paradigm/

Probably any Ubisoft games of current generation, cuz they all feel the same to me.
Any EA game, I don't want to sound like a bitch and insult anyone, but I have to say that only the brainless idiot will buy their products.
Activision haven't made anything else besides of CoD in those last 10 years, they had published Sekiro in the west, but it's not their game so I don't count that.

Well, probably I also hate the indie games, I respect the indie devs and how they want to be creative and independent, but for me personally, the majority of their games are a piece of trash, except Mark of the Ninja.

You're both right. Most indie games are rubbish but he's silly to say "I hate indie games" because he's writing off most of the best games out there. It's not actually hard to find out if a game is a turd before you buy it, indie or not. Just don't buy every new shiny fucking thing on release, don't take every reviewer at face value until you have a feel for the site and if in doubt find a video gaming community which you can trust and read the buzz. Again you need to read between the lines and know what you like for it to work but if you don't then you're a lost cause. Sun Tzu and all that.

For example I know Gungeon and Sekiro are excellent by looking at the front page. I also know they aren't for me because I'm nervous and uncoordinated. Rimworld was a good shout though and honestly I'd probably enjoy Kenshi but I'd find it a really guilty pleasure because it's clearly maladjusted as fuck.

It's gonna be a vr title for the valve index, their upcoming vr headset. How likely do you think it is that it's gonna be half life 3? What game do you think it'll be?
The headset seems like it's pretty good, it's got a wider FOV (135 degrees) and a faster refreshrate (144hz) than any other headset. Really expensive, though (1 grand).

>no one is discussing the porn game of the century

To be honest its a more game with porn than a porn game. Studio FOW is an indie game studio "famous for getting banned from Patreon for making a werewolf eat a girls butthole" and has set out with the Internet's graces to create a tongue in cheek sexy gaming experience that flaunts itself in the face of censorship in gaming. Its an RPG that seems to mix a lot of X-Com and the elements of indie space games like Out There with fully graphic sex scenes.

The project already has over a million dollars on kickstarter and lots of development. This is definitely my kind of game and I love the brazen humour and attitude of it.
