I've been dry for years, but I might finally have a connect again.
What are your favourite games to play while stoned?

The ones I have the most fond memories of for solo smoke sessions would probably be Mirrors Edge and UT99, toss a Morrowind in there for good measure. Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth was really atmospheric, but probably spent 3 sessions mostly just lost in the main square trying to find that one entrance I'm supposed to go inside...

Also damn am I hype to have a go at Doom 2016 blazed out of my gourd. Felt from the first 10 minutes that it'd go hand in hand with a bong sesh.

That doesn't exist. If a hardcore junkie took 40mg hydrocodone in a day they would still be shitting their guts out and considering suicide.

Trust me, can now get a buzz off of 60mg codeine.

The first time I tried it yeah I got a good buzz for the same reason first time I tried a shot of alcohol I got a buzz. Anyone who thinks developing a massive tolerance is cool is a complete idiot and a tool. Obviously it wasn't long before multiple percocet didn't do much.

Yeah. It's a thing. PAWS develops for similar reasons I think. Even taking a year long t break 10mg did next to nothing to me. It wasn't until tianpetine I got a really strong buzz on again, though sadly the stuff is super addictive and very easy to develop a many grams a day habit.

Door kickers. It's like if you took SWAT 4 and turned it into a strategy game. It's relaxing to get a joint burning and lay out a precise raid. Even the slightest adjustment of your troops barrel placement can change how a firefight goes down. It's super satisfying when you make your team pull security properly and no one gets injured.

I can't wait for the second one...if it ever comes out of limbo.

Can you still feel the magic of videogames or do you just play videogames because it's that time of the day? How often do you play videogames and for how long? Are grindy, long videogames bad for your mental health? I'm starting to think that they are.

Chuggaaconroy considers this to be the best Zelda game

Phantom Hourglass is the most by the numbers Zelda game I have ever experienced.

Everything about this game feels like its feeding into the problem Zelda games have been dealing with for awhile now where all they do is feed into some sort of quota that you'd expect from a Zelda game. Nothing about it feels like its taking any risks. MINISH CAP FEELS LIKE IT TAKES MORE RISK THEN THIS GAME DOES

There is always some gimmick in every Zelda game and this game's only gimmick is "Its Zelda...on the DS." The Phantom Hourglass has zero value baring something compared to The Windwaker the very thing this game is suppose to be a sequel to or other more superior gimmicks like The Spirit Masks from Majora's Mask, The Ocarina from Ocarina of Time or the Wolf Transformation gimmick from Twilight Princess.

All the Phantom Hourglass reminds you is the world's most shittiest designed dungeon concept ever and Breathe of the Wild was taking the piss of referencing it as a location you can visit in its open world setting.

Spirit Tracks < Skyward Sword > Phantom Hourglass

The boss fights in this game are also too easy. And from a design standpoint Windwaker is notorious for its generic looking Zelda bosses. Ganon's design looks good its just everything else just feels unmemorable

I get that Zelda is stuck in this "if it ain't broke don't fix it" attitude but goddamn I want more Zelda games that have intimidating looking bosses that rival those from Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword. I want a Horror Themed Zelda game.

there's an item later in the game that helps you grind red orbs anyways since the final taunt for the characters are all 3-4 million red orbs so the red orb DLCs you get from any legitimate edition are just drops in the bucket - the only people i've seen complaining about red orbs being purchasable are people who kept dying over and over and ran out of red orbs to revive themselves

>Anyway is this game good? Should I actually pay for this game? Is the story supposed to make no goddamn sense?

i dont think i've ever seen a place besides /vg/ where people go on paragraph-long rants about shit and then say they've never played the game before

Anybody else playing this? I've been real slowly working on a sandbox city and so far I'm really happy with how it's turning out.

I'm not a big fan of the campaign. It's okay, but it kind of sets you up for failure. It doesn't do a very good job of explaining why things are happening (like if your income / population is fluctuating wildly, your luxury item production is the cause. You make booze, you deliver booze, income / pop. goes up. People drink booze as soon as it reaches the warehouse, your supply lines can't support the size of your city, income / pop. plummet) and has you move faster than you probably should. Rule of thumb is to make sure that you've "completed" the tier you're at before moving on. Make sure your farmers are as happy as they can be and your supply lines are holding steady at the maximum before you start upgrading them to workers, etc. Campaign doesn't do that. As soon as you can upgrade to workers, it tells you to do so and odds are you're probably just scraping by as is.

Post your cities, tell us about the time all your distilleries exploded and took half your population with them.

I mean, sure, but beyond colonizing the islands that have the resources you need to unlock the next tier before the AI does and spreading out your industry-to-parks ratio, I just don't see any meaningful choice and consequence.

nb but I totally forgot; every tier requires different things, so it gets progressively harder to keep your people happy as you go. Farmers only want clothes, a market, and fish. Workers want clothes, a market, fish, booze, sausages, bread, soap, and a school. Then you've got artisans and engineers to go and every tier still wants everything from the previous ones so it's not like you can just get rid of your farmers once you get workers, for example, because each pop. type can only work in certain buildings.

You get workers from upgrading farm houses which means you lose farmers. Same for every other tier (workers turn into artisans, you lose workers). So the more engineers you need, the more artisans you need, the more workers you need, the more farmers you need, the more you need of everything (including space to create it all) to keep everybody happy and not breaking out the guillotine.

Game kind of turns into a gentrification simulator because you inevitably end up moving your farmers and workers out of their happy little town into slums surrounded by pig shit and factory fumes so the rich fops can move into what used to be their homes in the city centre. You can see it in that second picture, like half the place is working class homes now which meant I had to move a bunch of the farmers North-West, they're up there squished between the fisheries, pig farms, and sheep farms.

>the humble worker's face when his family gets moved into the steel mill district and his asthmatic daughter dies so some powder wig wearing dandy can live by the shore

Fair. 1800 is definitely more of a comfy game where you just build because you like building. Like you're not gonna run out of food and need to eat the elderly, there's no super meaningful choice and consequence.

I see all the time on this board "Oh I wish I could play this game but it's too expensive" or "oh I think this looks cool but I'm waiting for it to go on sale" and I just can't even understand that. Just fucking download it from one of the million places on the internet! You weren't going to buy it anyway, so just get it for free! If you really like the game, guess what, you can still buy it and support the developers later! Seriously, how much of a fucking stallion do you have to be to not even consider the option of getting something for free that is otherwise more expensive than it should be? I'm gonna be straight with you: when you spend money on a game, especially by a major studio, NONE OF THAT MONEY GOES TO THE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY WORKED ON IT. THOSE PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY BEEN PAID. All of your money goes to the corporate publishers who everyone hates. There is literally no downside to you, the player, for pirating the game, with the rare exception of online multiplayer games. Just fucking do it! Nobody cares, and nobody gets hurt!

That reminds me of when I had a look at how UT99 was doing nowadays, where two active servers (several more really, but only them that was thrivingly populated) that seemingly still had some veterans keeping things going, but also, one server which seemed to be in spanish and was modded to hell and back. Weapons that tore you a new asshole in microseconds, shoot/hit first and you win the encounter. Also some maps with some special weapon that instead of just you, tore the whole map an asshole. Some kind of black hole rift that essentially pulled you in and ripped you to pieces right after respawn, stayed up the rest of the game. Everything with spanish voice samples as sound effects for frags and all that.
Needless to say I had some fun in there.
Always seemed to be the same players in there as well, never could tell if they were bots or not.

I like their games, but this makes Bethesda my least favorite game company. Betheda forced Obsidian to release the game after a few short months. New Vegas would be the greatest RPG of all time if you could play after the ending, what with so many ways the game could turn out.

Obsidian does amazing work using previous games engines to outshine the original (story-wise) like New Vegas and Knights of the Old Republic 2. Your average New Vegas NPC usually has more soul than every NPC in Fallout 3 combined.

But Obsidian games always get rushed to hell. Why!? They're both unfinished. Hell there's even mods to restore unfinished content for Kotor 2. Still lacking, maybe if Bioware gave them more than a few goddamn months to make their game it'd be even amazing.

What happened to video games being art? I guess they're just product. Fuck.

Apparently some of the unfinished New Vegas content included a scene where you get black out drunk with Cass on the strip and wake up the next morning married. Could of been kind of cool.

I just wish they had time to finish Searchlight, make it a massive town full of people and quest givers rather than be rushed into "muh radiation bomb killed everything"

There's an easter egg in Metro LL where you sit down at a bar next to a haggard ugly woman and after the first drink she get's a little prettier. If you keep drinking her character model keeps changing until she's hot and then you black out. When you wake up the bar is completely destroyed and the bartender is crying saying he's ruined because of you. You can pay him 150 bullets for the damage or you can walk. It's not related to the thread, but that post reminded me of it so I wanted to mention it.

Well everyone experiences drugs differently. It's way less dramatic than it sounds but beige, duck egg blue, mint green, light grey, white and so on all have a tendency to end up a bit diffracted. I mean people see shit that isn't there and hear things which aren't real on many substances but colours going a bit weird is questionable?

It's not some ultimate commitment. Animals switch people all the time, it's cool. You shouldn't be so self-absorbed to think they belong to you. Have an animal friend for a few years, and if you can't take care of it at some point, pass it on to good people. Chill, happy, well-adjusted-to-the-insanity-that-is-human-society dogs are always in demand, even if a bit older.
Emeralda Kasim - Fri, 12 Apr 2019 09:52:37 EST rPOInlBO No.734947 Reply
Sounds like youre trying very hard to burry your regret under a pile of denial. Its cool though, I commend your commitment and I wish you many happy moments with your dog bro.
It might be hard to find good people that want your dog for some owners. I wouldnt just give my cats to a random guy from craigslist, never mind a cat shelter, unless I absolutely had to. I made a commitment to please my dying mom, and now I have to deal with the fact that unless I get lucky with good people or abandon them at natures mercy, I have to say goodbye to careless freedom. And cats arent even that demanding, you can leave them for few days alone and theyll be fine. They even have a solid chance to make it in the wild.

Most people get a dog because they feel lonely or feel emptiness in their lives, and thats not the healthiest mindset when making a decision that will change your life. Those that have stable lives they would never willingly change and get a dog as a bonus are a minority.
Its a solid advice to take an old one from a shelter, not just because of shorter commitment, but for many other reasons that can make that relationship more fullfilling and constructive.
