I'm 31 yo and I've always been interested in game design and messed around with it over the years.
But in the last year I've been seriously teaching my self how to use unreal engine and a few other things (mainly unreal...i sort of tunnel visioned in on it).
But lately I haven't coded or worked on any of my projects.
It's really hard to stay motivated.

I was considering taking some community collage non degree courses in game design but its gonna cost me thousands of dollars for a fucking 36 week program that dosent even give me a degree.

I live abroad in a country that dosen't really have a game jam scene (Also i don't speak the native language so...

Basically I just want to get exposed to more stuff than being self taught gets you and be more well rounded and be forced to work on things in a lower risk environment than a job.
But holly fuck im not gonna almost go homeless and into debt over school.

I do udemy courses and stuff but it's not the same as being in a classroom with peers and a teacher.

Has any one here ever participated in some in person game jams? I think im gonna try going to some when I get back state side.

I've looked into doing them online but I usually massively outclassed in skill and I think I'd gain much more from an in person interaction.

I also have a first batch switch and have never had issues. I don't play it that much but it always works perfectly fine when I do.

I think it's just a luck of the draw thing, a good amount have the issue but a good amount do not. I don't know about newer models. No one should buy the light though it's a stupid product. Defeats the idea of the "switch" that you can switch between TV and handheld. It's just a re-release with that feature taken away and I don't know if any have been added. Buy the original it's not much more and being able to "switch" really is awesome.

That's the thing, the issue arises with extended use because the connectors or whatever get covered with the "dust" that comes from the sticks due to wear from friction.
It's probably going to be a while before the old stock runs out and you're guaranteed to get a fixed one. I wouldn't bother waiting if I really wanted a Switch, but that's just me, I already fuck up controllers in about a year average due to spilled beer/drinks.

Is there any horror game that deserves being called "a classic"? Basically every horror game I've ever seen isn't any subtle at all -- they all have either graphic violence or lots of jumpscares and/or spooky monsters, which are just really try-hard and uninspired ways of trying to spook someone, it doesn't really haunt you and make you lose sleep (unless you're a small child). Amnesia is kind of one of the subtler ones, but still, it has a literal spooky monster with a disfigured spooky face chasing you.
I'm looking for something like that fictional petscop game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e6RK8o1fcs) that's really, really subtle and really haunting. Do you know of a game like this?

There is a game called scratches that people swear is really good. It is abandon ware if you can find a live torrent, but if not you can buy the use of a download service from here to get it. I would give you my copy, but I recently lost my HDD and had to reformat, losing the game.

The POTUS seems to think so.

How can you sleep at night, staying up playing violent video games until morning?
Literally everyone played and praised that Hatred game. And now it's come to bite you in the ass.

Are you a parent? Do you even realize what your 24 year old child is exposed to? Obviously, something has to be done.

I think there is definitely something to the idea (not Trump's idea thousands have been saying this for years). However like always it is stupid to generalize and obviously were not all becoming mass murderers. Unfortunately the way law works is it has to govern by the lowest denominator, if some people can't handle something unfortunately no one can have it because it puts us all at danger when the idiots get ahold of things.

Humans shouldn't have made it this far anyway, there's no good solutions to the world's problems because it's filled with humans and we are stupid selfish and confrontational by nature.

Welp; it's only a month away and I can already smell the sour notes of change in the air. Personally I don't understand the hype, private servers have been a thing for generations and they come at the low cost of nothing; but I guess if a huge wave of players flood the gates, it'll be cool to see the massive turnout.

Know a lot of people who are going to jump in once it's open; some going as far as to plot out their entire leveling/gearing on day-by-day schedule; getting ahead of the curve and running Strat/Scholo several times a day in order to beef themselves up for the inevitable dickwaving contest that is world pvp. Gotta rip off that wrapper and shove the whole candy-bar down your throat as fast as possible after-all.

Plan to take it slow, main a warrior or druid, tank some dungeons and relive the olden days at a slow pace; maybe do some PvP when I hit cap.

Where do ya'll stand on Classic; Like it? Hate it? Want to call out an entire generation of neck-beards for being nostalgic losers who can't enjoy new games?

Got any stories you'd like to share with the class?

Look I don't really enjoy WoW either, but I can understand the appeal and why people would want to play the version that people played and fell in love with 15 years ago. It's not a hard concept to understand.

It's nice to be able to reexperience something that isn't available anymore, like the older versions of MMOs, so I can see the appeal.
I've been playing a private server for a 10 year old version of a different mmo, because while the game is still around and still being updated, the current official version is basically a whole new game and a lot of the things I used to do have been powercrept to the point that 80% of the game's content is largely worthless and just an ignorable (or mandatory) stepping stone to the new stuff. I like this old version because it's familiar and I understand what's going on in it.

It's what it says on the tin. I've done this same giveaway a couple times before. The list remains mostly the same, if you've seen it before, but with additions from several humble/monthly bundles.

https://pastebin.com/pziDpv91

Everybody can choose a game, then message me on discord (teeth#8120), post your steam profile, or message me in IRC (Teeth.) I need to send the keys/links in private, because if I post them here in any capacity they get sniped.

It's one per person to start out, but there are really quite a few available, so I'm not opposed to anyone getting more than one. I'll try to do things on a first come, first served basis, but if our schedules align poorly the game you want might already be gone by the time we get to talk to each other.

Have fun!

What are some games that, for some reason cannot be surpassed or recreated?

For me: RE4 captured the Zeitgeist of a post 9/11 white boy with fantasies of fucking Britney Spears and shooting terrorists in their stupid faces. It was like, all the horror of my life could be channeled and fucking shot in this game by some wise-cracking pretty-boy who doesn't give a flip about your stupid cult.

Made me feel powerful... brave... and needed. Me and my friends would play it and swap tricks... scare each other.

That's plainly just false. I actually completely forgot about Benny and wasn't even sure that's who I was looking at. The writing of FNV was just subpar in general. I didn't like Benny but it wasn't that satisfying. What kind of a noob even comes up with this kind of idea? What a lame, poorly fleshed out character.

Now THIS is a guy that's satisfying to take out. Holy fuck, getting the chance to finally fucking kill him was damn near as satisfying as watching Joffrey choke on his own blood.

>>740750
This, except I wasted that fuckers whole camp. It also bothered me that you couldn't take anyone down off the crosses. It was just stupid gameplay decisions. You can shoot them and they fall down, but I can't just untie a damn knot? Especially stupid considering you had a quest where it would make sense to do so. I really have no idea what the rationale behind it is that you can't just take people down off a crucifix and have to shoot them instead but I found it pretty immersion breaking.

Otherwise yeah I was going to say it was far, far more satisfying neutralizing Mr. House and seizing power from him, Caesar, and the retarded NCR. Benny was just a stupid puppet and ultimately a pretty forgettable one to me. I've killed a lot of NPCs and frankly if you asked me to come up with a whole list of the most satisfying NPCs to kill I don't think Benny would even cross my mind.

>>740761
>House wasn't a villain at all.
>He was an anarcho capitalist
Pick one, and only one. And if he really wanted to go that Ayn Randian route well tough titties he probably shouldn't have underestimated the intellect and resolve of someone he meant as his easily discarded errand boy and useful idiot.

>>740768
House was megalomaniacal. Granted he wasn't necessarily quite as bad as the Legion or NCRYes NCR was bad they were just too incompetent, bureaucratic, and distant to make their evil as fully known but he was still pretty damn bad.

The problem with Mr. House is that he was basically a self serving and ruthless oligarch. Why shouldn't he get deposed? If I'm going to be going by his rules then it might as well be somebody even more intelligent and capable than he is, and at the end of it all I realized that with all the bad options out there funnily enough the only other least bad option I could take was choosing me. It would equal an era of neutrality and at least an uneasy peace in the region, a free and prosperous New Reno meant for the benefit of the people who actually lived there.

House was ultimately just another echo of the past, and the same greed, egomania, general avariciousness and flawed thinking that ended the world to begin with. Their whole generation lost their right to rule when they killed the world.

Looked quite a few pages back and couldn't find the old one, maybe it went in the wormhole event?

Just tried and finished Gorogoa for the first time (I think, I seem to recall playing it before, but not really too). Really beautiful, quite short, would recommend.
Also on my first playthrough of The witness, have been at it a while. It just keeps giving. Small spoiler: That hidden away shipping container locked with a puzzle, actually had a giggle burst when you were rewarded with another puzzle for solving the puzzle.
Third but last, really loving Baba is You too, even though it melts my brain and I have to think far too long for alot of them (have still kept from looking up any solutions at all).

Videogames kind of ruined my life. I play around 4 hours a day and I NEED to have my 4 hours a day videogame fix, even on weeks where I'm really busy. So I schedule all of my cillege work and shit with that in mind, and that makes me much less productive and social and it may be primary the cause of my depression.
