Finally, we have some gameplay (not much but that seems pretty par for the course for Kojima trailers) and a release date of November 8th

Thoughts? Personally I think it looks pretty good from what's been shown so far. Also lol at the name Die-Hardman

Horizon: Zero Dawn. Just "Horizon" would suffice, I don't know why tons of games these days feel the need to add the subtitles. A Plague Tale: Innocence for example. Just A Plague Tale would sound much better
I'm sure this is mostly subjective taste but cmon not every game needs to be Dragon Quest 11 S Echos of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition (actual fucking title)

Holy shit WTF I have no idea what I'm doing Jesus Christ this game is complicated, even for a 4x game. Doesn't help that the UI is cluttered as shit, and the automation doesn't work. And that sometimes it isn't clear what a benefit will do for you because administrative capacity doesn't automatically mean a bigger empire in my mind.

That being said, I'm really enjoying playing as an unethical criminal organization that only trades in favours and cripples the galactic economy by doing so. The AI factions haven't seen alloys since we came into contact, which means no fleets or colonization for them until I declare war. They won't declare war on me, because I'm currently running the galactic senate and my federation of idiots. With a fleet power of 10k. Gotta say, if I hadn't known about this exploit, it would have been very tedious to learn this game.

Still a few things I'm confused on. Like what does diplomatic weight do? Does it make diplomacy with a single faction easier, or does it make my points in the senate and federation worth more? Also I'm not really sure if I should play this as a 4x game or more like dwarf fortress, where I'm just playing to see what happens. It gives off a lot of "telling a story instead of playing a game" vibes.

The different options are equivalent to different races in any real 4x game.
>muh customization
This is the excuse most people make and it is unbelievably shallow. Galciv 3 has more traits. Stardock 2 has way more traits. You can customize a race in Endless Space 2 and that has not just more but more interesting traits.

Every single thing about it is absolutely shallow as all fuck with the sole exception of portraits. Even the background screens are just lazy as fuck and iirc unbelievably minimal.

Whenever anybody says "customization" they're literally talking about the portraits. This is because these people think shallowly and take it at face value. I am directly criticizing the game for its overall shallowness and lack of depth all over the place which I also noticed how limited company building screens were. The whole experience felt like nothing but a lazy as shit ripoff of SoaSE and because of that I am going to directly judge its DLC bullshit even more harshly than I normally would. Oh. And flags. Yeah you get to make a custom flag.

Look if you like it that's fine you do you. Just know that it is the top 3 worst 4xish games I ever played. Soundtrack was boring. There's just nothing there. I know you can't really judge 4x games by that amount of time but I couldn't force myself to keep playing it after like 4.5 hours or whatever.
Pac-Man - Fri, 24 Apr 2020 08:53:57 EST BJtLvEfC No.751911 Reply
Rather than dismissing you and saying you haven't played enough to understand what you're talking about (though enough to know you hate the game and didn't enjoy it and hopefully you got the refund) I'll explain why I feel that way.

Traits are just little tweaks. They're not the customisation but the final fine tuning tweak. You have missed the actual major stuff. When you think customisation ethics should be what comes to mind.

So ethics are your playstyle. They close and open paths and playstyles. Xenophiles can't enslave aliens unless they're also authoritarians then they can enslave everyone. Pacifists can't have declare offensive wars but they grow fucking fast in peace. Spiritualists love unity but not robots, materialists can easily avoid and AI uprising but will shun pyschics. You can change your ethics mid game, it's not necessarily easy but you and AI factions can and will. You could start pacifist, grow, chafe with your annoying allies and drop it for xenophobia or militarism or whatever. Assuming you have the appropriate political factions in place so you can "ascend them". There's also AI and hiveminds. These styles all play differently, you don't take a single ethic so the interaction creates a few more approaches that will play differently (though not every combo is materially different).

Then you have civics, civics are mostly significant nationwide bonuses that can sometimes just boost but some change your play. Most further entrench your playstyle some create a new more extreme version. If you're super xenophillic and militariistic fanatical purifier is there, if you're egalitarian as fuck you can play as shared burdens communists, if you're pacifist but also xenophobic you can play inward perfectionism and so on.

Traits affect just one race and unless you're fanatic purifier you will have migrants/conquered slave races, you can gene mode so traits are also malleable and you can abandon them entirely. Traits are bonuses, you can gene mod and allocate people using castes or whatever if you're a min maxer or just slap generic upgrades on your whole population once the gene point total rises.

Now maybe that's less specific and characterful than your other XXXX games but Stellaris thematically tries to touch on every space sci fi idea so it's trying to be generic. Does it suffer for that? Depends who you ask.

If you want to play something halfway between civ level grand strategy and XXXX and get your toes wet it's the best. If you are a proper XXXX enthusiast (that's the word I typed, not a burn) then sure maybe its lame but Paradox found their mark with this one. People who want a sci fi game with about the depth of civ (though the rulers feel less like bots gaming their own rules).

It was fun when I came out, but I have no idea why people are still so addicted to it. Is it the spell crafting thing? I havent played any version with the spell crafting thing.

Is there any game that pushed the minecraft idea to the next level technically? Like, using modern hardware to simulate much smaller voxels and shit. Is there any such game that's like minecraft but with a much more advanced voxel engine? There's so much that can be improved technically on minecraft, and I'm not talking about lightning, fuck lightning. I'm talking advanced physics and voxels and shit.

Il try the mods. But to be Frank, I'm not entirely enthusiastic about playing it. I do it mostly cause it's just a place for my friends to hang out in while we chat. It gets a little awkward if we dont speak to each other for a while, so we just log in in a realm I'm paying for and we just chat while walking around. We got into it a bit lately now that we're all here, and we built a nice village but now that we found a bunch of diamonds we just dont know what to do anymore. Last time we logged in, we just started at each other while talking. Maybe if there is a way I could mod the world in the Realm, that might make it a lot more interesting. Yeah, il try to look that up.

We might just go back to DnD roleplaying stuff if it doesnt work. We could go back to WoW but everyone was getting depressed thinking about all the time we wasted on that MMo so we had to quit.

Give a short summary of the game or franchise you are thinking about, and let the next poster guess what it is!

Example: "Italian plumber tried to rescue his girlfriend with the aid of psychedelic drugs" franchise = super mario (psy drugs = he eats mushrooms)

Bonus points for creativity!

I'll start with a cult classic:

"High functioning enthusiastic agent Cooper battles nicotine addiction and psychosis in this 2010 Japanese thriller."

I try not to pay attention to much to stuff and people's opinions because I have always wanted to form my own opinion on things and usually the type of people that like this game are the 30 something still at parents with no gf type. Full on circlejerk posters that still use waifu unironically.

The only reason I got this game was because I liked Xenogears and Xenosaga. I just don't want to be lumped with those types of gamers

I mean even if the game is a lame anime dweeb type of game doesnt mean you cant enjoy it. Fans do ruin everything though, look at My Hero Academia/Rick and Morty/Undertale fans. Just because the fans are atrocious doesnt mean that the media isnt good.

But Xenoblade is completely different than Xenogears. Lets get that straight. Xenogears is philosophical as fuck, while Xenoblade basically just uses the word Xeno in the title. I dont know if theres a relation between the two, maybe someone else can elaborate. Xenoblade is good though.
Emeralda Kasim - Sun, 19 Apr 2020 20:49:20 EST FQgjLMO1 No.751713 Reply

They're all the same worlds in the creators head but he can't physically state that the titles are related. They are related by story threads explored in all of the games. Such as Fei is kind of in Xenosaga. He is U-Do and later the little boy Abel. Xenosaga would take place after Xenogears. I'm not sure where Xenoblade would be on the time line. I believe it would a prequel to both games since the world basically got destroyed in Xenosaga.

"Indie" being "anything outside the 10 to 20 AAA games per year" apparently. There's a whole spectrum on various budgets. Basically the majority of the market is now the "COD, FIFA and maybe 2 other games per year" crowd and the competition is either to dethrone the above or be one of the other two games.

If you are not in that crowd there's everything from works of love from individuals to double figure teams producing headline grabbing games. Because AAA budgets are mostly marketing, if you know your audience is smaller you can make a game nearly as good with a fraction of the budget. Of course then you're reliant on game quality rather than it just being something everyone does with their mates to sell copies. I'm not complaining though.

Divinity Original Sin cost $4.5m to make and made about $6.5m in revenue in the first week.

lol no it doesn't. And besides which the idea that it's laziness is just plain stupid and wrong because what it does is make it so you can beat every single game and only have to play it exactly once by having set everything. Most games incorporate some element of randomness one way or they other. That guy is right. This is probably people who wsnt to enthusiastically memorize the moves and maps and never get challenged by anything. Procedural generation is so that you can play the same game twice. Games like SOMA where absolutely everything is totally scripted are only good for being played exactly once for that exact reason. Games like XCOM are great partly because they're hard as balls and require more of you thinking on your feet and reacting to new situations on a case by case basis. They're more fun when you play a hard ironman because no matter how many times you've played you'll never totally know the enemy and the terrain and the additional randomness of shots ensures that sometimes making the right play can fail hard so you need to think fast and come up with a plan B.

If you really want to get right down to it it's largely all based on board games many of which used dice. 4x is Risk or Stratego. Then there comes to taking shots and doing damage and all kinds of tasks which is old as shit and comes from DnD. Playing one game without procedural generation anywhere is like playing the same campaign with the exact same monster locations and everything over and over. It gets boring as shit. Oh we know three goblins are down that cave. Oh this way has the treasure chest with gold in it. Like what the fuck's even the point of doing that again? ProcGen at least lets you play the same general session again but without it being something you can memorize and bore the tits off anyone who doesn't have enthusiasm.

I'm clearly not confused about it, you condescending little shit.

Doesn't matter what purists think about it, though. It's already muddied to the point where roguelike is used where roguelite is meant probably more than half the time. It's a moribund term. I'll continue using it until people don't understand me at all, and then I'll switch to roguelike and not give two shits.

I would say 7.5/10, It took me 4.5 hours to finish the game, the only thing bothered me is that the game was missing half of the content of original RE3, and they weren't even puzzles to begin with.
The team behind of RE2 remake had some more justice to it's source material than the one behind of 3, the concept of 3 was good, if only they made it just like the original with puzzles, clock tower, survivors mode and multiple endings, it could've been a 9/10 game.
They could've been a bit more creative and add a scenario mode to start the game as Carlos or Jill (like in RE2), so each scenario would give you a new view to the story from the different perspective.

Post here if you want to get some others opinions about a game you're on the fence about. Hopefully someone who has actually played it can give you some pros and cons
For instance, I'm thinking about buying Darkwood which looks kind of neat but the top down aspect worries be and so does the fact that a lot of these survival type games can get repetetive after a few hours. The steam reviews are good but most of them just talk about how the game scared them shitless and not anything else the game has to offer.

how many combat racers do you see these days? And if you go far back enough you can say video games started on an oscilloscope, but that's hardly the advent of the medium in arcades let alone the home console. Mario kart may not be the first to do it by a longshot but it did popularize the genre.

the mob meme is weird. fought nothing but enemies and monsters in games until getting on minecraft in the early beta days. then suddenly it was mobs mobs mobs mobs, even spilled over into terraria. like did the old MUD and dungeon game geeks popularize it or was it started by the dev being from that era? weird shit.

One of the aims of language is to to have less syllables, its pretty natural that monsters and enemies got replaced by mobs. Good thing that a mob is a fitting word in itself, not just abbreviation of "mobile", cause it makes it more natural to adopt by people that dont know its origin.
Cast is redundant cause stream is already one syllable, thats why it didnt catch on.

As I've gotten more into PC gaming, I've been using Steam as my main way to manage my game library. It's pretty cool to have everything in one place, but I can't help feeling Steam makes my non-steam games look a little out of place in the library.

I started trying GOG today, so far so good. I like that it even shows my PS4 and XBO Libraries and all of my online friends from all of the platforms. Only downside so far is it can't even touch Steam's Big Picture Mode with controller support.

Any other alternatives worth checking out?

The only thing that cought my eye was Watch Dogs 1, but I already bought it in Steam about few years ago with a cheap price.
The only good thing they can do is to contact with Konami and get the rights to port and release Metal Gear Solid 4 to PC via Epic Shit, and maybe then it will increase my interest to finally give a crap about their store and buy something from there.
