Guess what, you dank dinguses, Xbox General Thread!

What are your thoughts or memories of the original Xbox?

When I was a kid, my friend got one around the time it came out and we had a blast playing some of the coop games and the demo discs that came with some vidya magazines when we were little goats. Even if the original duke controller was too large for most adults.
>Halo
>Halo 2
>Wicked!
>that odd movie Kung Fu game
>NFL Blitz

I'm thinking about getting one these days. It seems like it has enough games that I missed in that generation that are neigh impossible to emulate and it looks like it's fairly easy to mod.

Should I buy and mod one, /vg/? What are your favorite games and what are some of your favorite nostalgia memories for Xbox?

I actually found one on a side of the street in high school and was able to clean it up and fix it that it was functuonal. I mostly played Silent Hill 2, KOTOR2, Doom 3 and Halo 2 through Xlink Kai, but it's probably buried somewhere in my parents' basement somewhere, if they hadn't thrown it away.

What do you remember about the Direct X box and what are some must play games for it??

I remember reading years ago some one hosting a webserver using a cluster of xboxes, I wonder where that ended up. I had one when it was released and loved Halo 2 and Def Jam Fight for New York. Also it was my first Dvd Player, got the little remote add on deal for cheap at the Book and Music exchange. Also Tenchu and Ninja Gaiden, Holy shit.

Awesome console. I ran through Halo on Legendary with a friend at least once a week for years. It's also a great mod machine to use as an HTPC and emulator box.

If you pick one up I also recommend the following:

Breakdown, Fable: TLC, Psychonauts, Beyond Good & Evil, Crimson Skies: HRTR, Armed & Dangerous, Hunter the Reckoning, Oddworld Munch's Oddysee, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Splinter Cell trilogy, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Prince of Persia, Chronicles of Riddick, MGS2, Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, the GTA Trilogy, and the Fatal Frame series.

Y'know I played the hell out of the first Xbox but it all seems like a blur to me. I vividly remember my time with Genesis and N64, I can recall every game I played and we're talking dozens of games.

But with Xbox... I remember nothing but a couple Star Wars games, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, and GTA San Andreas. Makes me sad that it's a foggy memory.

Same. I had a library of 70 games and barely remember any. There was something like Turk or Turok something? There's a popular series with a similiar name but it wasn't that. You controlled this little guy with a leather helmet and you had to do puzzles and kill rhinos in a deserty-fantasy world. I couldn't figure out the puzzles but I loved the atmosphere back then. It was kind of a puzzle platformer. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Also, SW:Battlefront 2 was great.

i remember playing a lot of Halo 2 and Conker: Live and Reloaded and how the multiplayer actually had an storyline between the Tediz and the Squirrels with it's maps. It was more censored than the N64 version which sucked, but the game was still fun.

Yes mod it you will not regret it. I enjoyed Halo 1 and 2, KOTOR, MK Armageddon, Scarface the world is yours, DOA 3, Soul Calibur 2, NFL Blitz, Morrowind, Timesplitters, SSX tricky, and just so many more. Honestly that console generation I felt was the best and I personally felt the original Xbox was the best of the consoles unless you include the Dreamcast in that discussion.

I've been meaning to get an NTSC-J 360 before they go completely off the market since the console hosts some of the greatest bullet hell games ever. Otherwise I really hope CAVE ports their old titles to other systems or re-releases them region free at some stage.

Current gen in general is pretty unimpressive, with a few noteworthy exceptions. No RPG's as good as Fallout: New Vegas or even Fallout 3, no physics-based games as good as Red Faction: Guerrilla (Just Cause 3 was good but not even close to as-good)....

The Xbox was what got me into video games more. I have a lot of good memories playing Halo 2 online and on system link. I also remember beating games like Max Payne, Shenmue 2 and Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee a bunch. Funny enough I just bought WWE Raw 2, Aggressive Inline, Deus Ex: Invisible War and the Prince of Persia trilogy on Sunday.

You're talking about the Tak trilogy though only the second and third games The Staff of Dreams and The Great Juju Challenge were on Xbox.

OP I forgot to mention if you do get an OG xbox make sure you mod the fuck out of it. The DvD drives are a bitch to have to take apart and clean all the time. The one I had was fixed about 5 times before the dvd drives screws got stripped and I said fucked it and plunged the screwdriver into it. The Xbox still works though, flash drive games ftw.

RIP the glory days of gaming. Granted, I was a child back then, so maybe I am biased.

I got my Xbox original modded the fuck up with a 250gb hard drive IN THE BLOCKBUSTER DAYs.

You could just fucking rip any game to it and it was fucking glorious.

Tons of emulators, endless fun.

Halo 2 were my glory days on the first xbox.

I got to level 47 legit and then found out about modding. Modded all the multiplayer DLC maps to the point where the enemy team would spawn in front of my, I had a fully auto BR with 100% auto aim that would fuck them up so hard, AND a no dmg fall limit/grenade set up so the pussies on my team couldn't suicide our score into negative, making us lose the game,

Then I got into router lag cheating and that was the fuckin tits in CTF. All of that just to get the halo level symbol by my name.

I also cheated in Pandora Tomorrow via rope teleporting glitch on the warehouse level, but then again, who didnt?

Pandora tomorrow had the best glitches you could exploit.

There was a window you could glitch inside and be invisible on DefTech. It was right behind a spot Mercs loved to camp and snipe, and you could just let them settle in and then pop out behind em and snap their necks.

Also midget glitching to sneak around and only be like 2 feet tall and then undo it when you want to kill people. Fuckin hilarious.

That halo shit is pretty uncool though.

Fond memories of getting 4 Xboxs together at a friend's for 16 player lan Halo 1 and 2. Then being able to play 2 against people in my dorm over the buildings network. Good fucking times for real.

Is there any way I can emulate or play fusion frenzy at all on my PC? I looked into Xbox emulators a while back and they seemed pretty primitive. Have things changed?

That was a great system. If you do mod it you might want to play the multiplatform versions even of games that came out from that era. Why? Cause the orginal xbox did them right. There are a few exceptions, but the og xbox always had the best versions of games that are on the other consoles.

The thing looks and sounds great, like there are a few games that with the right art direction still look really good today. This was my first console online expirence. And I had a great time with it. I mean sure, I had played fps on pc ,but I never got the kinda time that I put into halo 2 on this thing. This was the first time I spent long nights playing multiplayer fps.

Xbox live was a revelation to me, the graphics where amazing, I was all together blown away with the system. Its a classic and yeah, that was a super great gen. Makes me want to play some halo or something seeing you mention it man.
