MGSV has many secrets.
But it's part of an information-suppression ARG, and if you try to talk about it a paid shill will arrive withing 5 minutes anywhere on the internet to call you an incel and tell you to "let it go".

MGS3 was the last good game in the series.

MGS5 going open world was completely retarded, it just added 10 minutes of travel time through an empty-ass desert between every fucking mission, and for whatever god-awful reason every enemy base had Skyrim syndrome where they might as well have been made with a cookie cutter for how fucking bland and interchangeable they all were. Hilariously Ground Zeroes was much, much better than Phantom Pain despite being like one fucking hour long; they should have just made the entire game one gigantic base or a couple really big ones they way they used to, especially in the 2D Metal Gear games which were almost Metroid-like in their progression and level design.

Oh yeah, speaking of 2D Metal Gear, the one on the Gameboy Color is pretty fucking awesome. It's quality as fuck despite the limited technology, they even animate Snake's bandanna flowing as he runs. Awesome music, too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6E4JUdql5RA

hello shill
you are already dead

>MGS5 going open world was completely retarded, it just added 10 minutes of travel time through an empty-ass desert between every fucking mission,
It had the best actual gameplay of literally any open-world action game, and you were fucking glad there was so much space when you were playing it.

>And for whatever god-awful reason every enemy base had Skyrim syndrome where they might as well have been made with a cookie cutter for how fucking bland and interchangeable they all were.
Every map base is a modular FOBs for some interchangeable private mercenary army, supposedly. They aren't laid out like labryrinths because they're realistic military posts. If you played Ground Zeroes and think these developers don't know what a base looks like, well

>Hilariously Ground Zeroes was much, much better than Phantom Pain despite being like one fucking hour long;
MGS5 is made up of three games: Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes and MGSV. If you'd played Peace Walker you'd know this: there's a canonical relationship between mobile and console/pc Metal Gear games in which the portables are officially VR.
Ground Zeroes, being essentially a prefunding bonus minigame, bridges the two, but it's also the tutorial to The Phantom Pain. Of course, it has a few key differences, like not being able to Alt-Tab, or one key control being reversed. Unlike a mirror/

>they should have just made the entire game one gigantic base
The whole game is one gigantic base,

>Oh yeah, speaking of 2D Metal Gear, the one on the Gameboy Color is pretty fucking awesome. It's quality as fuck despite the limited technology, they even animate Snake's bandanna flowing as he runs.

It is actually kinda baffling how players don't even seem to recognise the big obvious lies sometimes, like how The Phantom Pain tells you it's happening in 1984 yet every clue indicates that it's actually set post-Rising in the timeline.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KckCsw_JyJI ~*everything's a lie*~

I heard that Kojima once said in an interview or something that he would one day tell a single fan what the actual canonical "real" story of Metal Gear is*, does anyone have a source on this?

what a strange thing to say

Anyway I want the source. I'm pretty sure the person who told me about this interview was an asshole working for the ARG though, so it may not exist, although a lot of the other clues he gave me turned out to be legitimate.

PS speaking of Metal Gear canon, I've done a whole lot of investigation personally (both in the data files and piecing together weird stuff hidden in the tapes and cutscenes across the entire series) and was pretty heavily involved in the ARG investigations from the beginning, so Aske Me Anything about anything and I might be able to solve a mystery for you.

Dude no, it's just incredibly meta. Every single game directly lies to the player, and does this through multiple layers of narrative depth: there's Snake the player (which is an ouroboros reference because the story has a lot to do with existential recursion), but every game also self-admits to be a virtual reality programme being experienced by another "Snake" who is being lied to and brainwashed in ways that are metaphors for the information manipulation of mass social control (both snakes, as soldiers, are microcosms for the mil-industrial conditioning of the greater public through our media and entertainment--remember that to be a modern soldier you start out as a modern child playing modern video games), but the games themselves literally are virtual reality constructs because they're literally video game software, being experienced by a player through an interface (or 'jack', like in the matrix), who is personally embedded in a contemporary political/media context shared by the developers.

I hope that's not too dense, I can expand on any part if you want. But that's really just the beginning.
TPP is the worst because it's a capstone on the whole series that you have to work backwards from to start making sense of everything else, but literally every fucking thing the game tells you is a lie (and the "brainwashing" resolution you get at the end is really just another level to the lie: the real brainwashing is a lot more comprehensive and is directed at the player themselves), and you need to have played Peace Walker or at least have listened to the hours and hours of tapes from that game to understand it.
The tapes are really good though, I highly recommend taking the time, and you can find them all on youtube. Here's the trailer though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b5trPeM9wI

Holy shit, I just started playing SurVive and contrary to all the bullshit negativity, it's actually (a) pretty good and (b) ruse cruisy as fuck. There are a heap of references to both Death Stranding and ARG shit from The Phantom Pain right from the beginning.

I'm only a few hours in, so let me just collect my thoughts a little:

  • Everybody is still fucking lying to you, but that's actually an up-front feature of the story this time.
  • "Welcome aboard the Charon boat, Captain", "castaways", "x has washed up", and the sky in the dust looking like the surface of the ocean: wink fucking nudge nudge.
  • The blonde Nurse and the white gloves goomba being the first rescues, lol: gold star if you get the significance of these, it'd take too long to explain.
  • Reeve sounds just like Raiden, and that's weird. Not just the voice, he also says the same kind of things Raiden would say, and has the same attitude about kids.
  • "Kuban Energy" is clearly fucking nanites that you extract just like in Metal Gear Rising, because this game is apparently set during some kind of grey goo nanite apocalypse in the post-Rising future, although PMC troops/the player seem to be kept in the dark about this for some reason. I guess this a prelude to the Death Stranding setting.
  • The Intel Platform FOB area is in the same place as the parasite death hospital where you fight the fireman. There's a big cliff here which looks out over a sea of fog in TPP, and near the entrance is the "PT Tent" which contains a radio which plays a spooky broadcast, but only during foggy weather: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-U-ZWxHJQQ
  • Which would imply... "Dite" isn't a parallel dimension. It's the exact same world you were running around in during TPP, only fully overrun by the nanite fog which was visible near the edges of the maps in TPP, and covered with wreckage and destruction which I assume is the result of the big Sahelanthropus fight which we never got to see (because your character in TPP was a brainwashed goon, not because the game was actually unfinished). From the concept art for Sahelanthropus and remembering the attacks it used in TPP, and the fact that the setting OBVIOUSLY wasn't 1984 I'm pretty sure it was actually a super-advanced Metal Gear that manipulates nanite superweapons. This shit is getting interesting.

I'm currently trying to get to the location of the PT tent, but it seems to be blocked by a landslide and surrounded by invisible walls. But tantalisingly there seems to be a series of platforms that lead up there if you take the long way around the mountain, which requires you to dip in and out of the fog wall where you can't see shit. Knowing these games it's probably an intentional cocktease though.

Haha, I post this, return to the game and immediately receive a cutscene that straight-up informs us that the dust/fog are nanites and kuban is congealed nanites. Welp.

> the "PT Tent" which contains a radio which plays a spooky broadcast
Sorry for the triple post but man the game goes out of its way to remind you about this.

This area is the first time that boomboxes (of the same sort as the radio that broadcast plays on) start appearing as resources, and there's an identical tent in the area (where walker gear washes up) which has an ambient wind zipping sound effect attached to it that sounds a lot like radio static.

I think there's one other radio which acts weird during fog in TPP, in a base not too far from from the end of the valley in this area... accessible via a ravine in which you can often hear that whale noise that sporadically happens. Interestingly just above that base on an inaccessible mountain there is some sort of unique house-like structure which the source files for the mobile companion game appears to refer to as "Chico's Villa" in an unused label.

Reminder that Konami put out a press release naming Kojima as VICE FUCKING PRESIDENT in 2011, but we never got anything more official than twitter rumours for his "firing".
