Xbox is coming out with an adaptive controller later this year for those with disabilities and being able to plug in a wide variety of controllers into it. I think it’s really cool that they’re doing this to make it more affordable and more inclusive for gamers with disabilities considering that not everyone can use the same controllers. Hopefully Sony and Nintendo will follow its lead. What do you guys think?

It doesnt bother me one way or the other. I dont need the controller myself since I have hands.

Idk if it will catch on because I doubt it actually makes much money. Cripples better support this stuff like crazy if they want to see it in the future.

Yeah it’s compatible with other devices that you can use to plug into it.

I remember a few years ago watching some disabled Chinese guy play Dark Souls with his feet using like a cheap arcade stick controller. Seems like they're kind of gouging disabled players with that $100 price tag, but I guess it's nice that it's at least an option now. I also wonder if some shitbirds will end up finding a way to cheese online competitive MP by jerry-rigging one of these things.

That's dope, it's always nice for more people to be able to experience more types of games.

Wonder how well it works, and what sorts of conditions it was designed to account for. The biggest trouble with making accessible gaming equipment is that there's so many different disabilities, that making a one size fits all input method is basically impossible. That's why so many of the existing solutions on the market are bespoke and expensive. Hopefully this one covers a lot use scenarios and lets more people get into different genres they couldn't play before.

Ben Heck has done some interesting accessible controller hacks.

I guess, but the tagline "Anyone should be able to play video games" seems kind of shitty when in reality it's "Even though you're disabled and shit sucks we still have to charge you more than everyone else that isn't disabled".

It's not like they're making mad profit on it. The sales will probably never recoup the R&D costs.

It's really not that expensive, considering small demand and prices of medical equipment. Sure, it could probably go down to 50 or even less, depending on materials used, but it's still reasonable.

This sounds sick, and not only for accessibility reasons.

Depending on the software, this + Steam Big Picture controller remapping means that you potentially can turn ANY GAME EVER into a weird Wii party game.

Wanna play Dark Souls using alternating pedals to move? Waggle the not-Wiimote to attack!

Co-op Skyrim! One player controls the hands, one moves, and one aims!

Play some Tekken by FLEXING YOUR MUSCLES? ok

Maybe you'd want to play some Genital Jousting with your friends by flexing your perienal muscles and clenching your butthole? Sureee

literally play your filthy anime VNs with your throbbing erection

THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS

So should they just give it out for free? lol

That's how it is for everyone that's in a minority that can't be catered to specifically because there aren't enough of them. That's life, bruh. Get with it dawg.

Fuck off with this race politics shit.. Disabled people are fucking disabled, it's stupid to gouge them when their lives are already rife with difficulty. Microsoft should partner up so disabled people can get these things for cheap via either insurance discounts or Microsoft can donate them and get tax write-offs.

It has to do with Jiao's shit ass argument of "you don't cater to minorities because they're minorities" because that's the same horseshit faggots claim during race arguments. He's conflating the plight of a goddamned disabled person with that of a non-white minority, it's fucking retarded. If Microsoft was going to go to the trouble of R&D'ing this thing then they also should have clued in their marketing department on how to get tax breaks by either selling these at a discount for the disabled or by donating them to charities that the disabled can get them from for free while Microsoft can recoup costs via tax write-offs and other government back pats.

As far as I can tell you are the only one conflating.
And while it would be nice if Microsoft was a charity organisation they clearly are a computer software and hardware manufacturer.
You are free to create a charity that supplies disabled people with free controllers though, I would definitely donate, and since I don't donate often Id guess that it would have a decent chance of success.

There has been people saying that it could give speedrunners and competitive gamers an advantage but I don’t see how it would.

>>719689
It’s a lot cheaper than the third party controllers and stuff that go for more than twice the amount.
>>

You're clearly retarded if you think corporations don't donate shit explicitly for tax write-off purposes.

Also, there are charities that donate gaming stuff to the disabled. Look up AbleGamers and Child's Play instead of shitposting on the internet, Cammy.

>>719823

It depends on how people work out the various inputs. I don't doubt a dedicated speedrunner could come up with some sort of frankencontroller using this that can help automate some functions for them during their run.
