What are some good games for a PC rig that's about ten years old?

shit to play if you got a joypad of some sort:
cuphead, bayonetta, a hat in time, psychonauts, jet set radio, super meat boy

fps puzzle:
portal & portal2, antichamber, quantum conundrum, the talos principle

high quality n o r m i e c o r e:
LA Noire

nostalgia glasses:
all the overrated old games, such as og deus ex, thief, diablo, whatever

the stanley parable
super hot
rock of ages
slime rancher

Anyway, it's a lot of fucking games, OP, most of the games, actually. Which is the reason why I half-assed the list instead of finishing the unfinishable. But at the same time, I wrote the goddamn list, so even though it's half-assed and unfinished I'm not gonna delete the post because it's already done. Aw fuck, what am I doing oh nooo

also, nfs underground 2

Genres? And preferably some particulars about the hardware. CPU, GPU and RAM models would be optimal.

If his PC is 10 years old, its likely running Vista, and Solitaire will bluescreen it.

Mother fucking System Shock.

It's like Diehard meets Neuromancer. If you're not a gigantic candy-ass casual scrub it's one of the greatest PC action games of all time. Play System Shock.

Also the Build engine FPS Blood by Monolith Productions. Your main weapons are bundles of TNT, a napalm cannon and a rapid-fire sawed off that makes the Super Shotgun from Doom 2 feel like a goddamn muzzle-loading blunderbuss in comparison.

Beat me too it. STALKER is one of the best FPS experiences in 2018 even. Which may/should tell you something about gaming today.

Personally I would recommend playing System Shock 2 instead of System Shock 1, but I do know people who liked the first one more, so there's that too.

yeah there's something liberating about not having to use an on screen lever to look around, but system shock 1 is still fun.

I think he's not talking about having a gaming PC from 2008. But just a shitty normal computer from 2008. He's not going to be running Fallot 3 or NV. And CS:GO isn't any better than Source or 1.6. It's a lateral iteration, developed absolutely nothing. Kinda like Starcraft 2. As a result both lack heart. Oh, and it also wouldn't run on his machine I don't think.

I can make TF2 run on a toaster. If anyone needs some naughty INIs step down this alley here

GoG has some old gems that'll run on pretty much anything. I still think the Heroes of Might and Magic games hold up, and Dungeon Keeper is pretty legit.

Some newer games would probably run fine, like the ones that ape isometric CRPGs of old (Tyranny, Pilliars of Eternity).

Bunch of indie games like Bastion, FTL or Darkest Dungeon would probably work fine too. What are the actual specs, man? What kind of games do you actually want recommended?

Maybe he should just stick to dos games and emulators then. Plenty of good adventure games and the list is endless with an emulator. Pokemon romhacks are decent too and easy to run. If all fails, there's always minecraft.
