I've been playing through all the Kingdom Hearts games lately and this song is really catchy, I love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpnXuRd9dPg

Also the New Bodhum theme from FFXIII-2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPEzumonJv4

I've always had a huge soft spot for the Ace Combat Zero theme. Not only is it this catchy blend of dramatic/film score style music, but it's got this flamenco guitar blend to it that's just great, and perfectly compliments the frenetic energy and pacing of the dogfighting in the game.

It also helps that it's placement during the game was spot-on, too: right at the climax, where you fight the final boss, your wingmate whose been with you throughout the rest of the entire game.

Yo, buddy. Still alive?

Wolfenstein: The New Order has an exceptional soundtrack as well. Ransacked in particular is a beautiful song that is placed at a moment in the game that is so compelling and seamless with the music that I don't even have the heart to spoilertext it.

Everyone talks about Mick Gordon's work on the DOOM soundtrack, but I personally feel like his magnum opus was by far Wolfenstein: The New Order.

I also listen to some twitch streams of those who have good video game music.
For my current favorite: A chill song from the new WoW expansion. I'll probably be stealing a few songs off this thread.

It doesn't help that your whole list is basically the safest "I just googled best video game music" attempt possible.

It's like if someone made a thread about rock music and you follow up with "this is all small time, here's some Pink Floyd", it just makes you look like a douchebag.

Yeah, I take it back, you're a grade D dingus. I've played all those games save for Dustforce in the last year and genuinely love those soundtracks. Had the Dustforce OST on my phone a few years ago.

Just because one guy says Pink Floyd is in the best bands of all time list, doesn't make them any less of an awesome band. Yer a cunt, harry.
Yuna - Sun, 18 Sep 2016 03:52:41 EST eTeJUctA No.683679 Reply

Nobody said Pink Floyd wasn't a great band or that Orcarina of Time didn't have a great soundtrack. But the sort of person that would offer such a safe choice like that, while going out of their way to disrespect everyone else at the same time, is a snobby cunt.

It's your attitude that's shit, not your music choices. Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

Dude, you are a buzzkill. I agree there's no "glitch" music in either game, but Hotline Miami 2's soundtrack was just as good if not better than the first game's soundtrack, and as a game it was outstanding. Really, everything I wanted out of a sequel to the original. But opinions, etc.

Oh man, Katawa Shoujo did indeed have such a great soundtrack... and I wonder why the guy, who did the music, hasn't been able to follow up on that? He's on Soundcloud, nothing there strikes my fancy: https://soundcloud.com/sebastienskaf

Anyway, while I liked pretty much all the KS tracks, especially in the game, I only listen to the peppy ones outside the game:

>Ah Eh I Oh You

>Out of the Loop

Kinda makes me want to read through the game again... but I wouldn't want to get caught by the feels again. Troublesome.

These two tracks (as does some music from the 3 Sonic Adventure games) sync up great with the MVC2 carnival stage. Too bad you can't stage select in MVC2 online. Fits the comic booky fighter theme. Ace Combat 5. Briefing 2.

Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction: Great PS2 era game, beloved by anyone who i speak to about it. It was fucking hard unless you used cheats or a guide.

Perfect Dark: (It's probably my fav, spent so much time in highschool baked playing this. Soundtrack is not even comparable to most modern games. Best enjoyed on Xbox 360 XBLA with 60 FPS. Good game for the girlfriend and goo game for the boys to join up and play 4 player splitscreen with bots. 10 bucks was a joke since I played this more than MW2/Black Ops in 2010.

I'm also a big fan of the C&C soundtracks. Renegade, Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert and Tiberian Sun from Frank Klepacki were brilliant.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. God I loved the menu soundtrack in that game, menu design is minimalistic the way it's supposed to be, not like the kids' big block of colors you get today. I say Prologue because GT5 (full game) for some stupid reason had 5 Prologue soundtracks turned off even though they're in the game and you can turn them on. GT6 had the worst OST ever, it's mostly compilation of the worst songs from the series.

Necrobumping with some tunes from Mario+Rabbids. The game is great, but I also think this is one of the best scores Grant Kirkhope has done since Banjo Kazooie. It's a lot more orchestral than he usually does, but still distinctly Kirkhope.

I agree. And it's beautiful to boot. And it has the best core mechanics and overall physics of any GTA to date. Wide variety of guns, gun mods, clothes, hairstyles, tattoos, cars, car mods, etc as well. Lots to do in story mode, lots of tools to help your imagination run wild in online, even if you're going solo.

And online has even more customization to help you really get immersed and attached to your character, especially in terms of buying various houses or apartments or garages, starting up your own company to build on your criminal dealings to establish greater independence and get out from the thumbs of folk like Martin Medrazo. As well as buying storage warehouses to house the legal and illegal cargo you smuggle, upgrading the vehicles you use to smuggle, buying a chop shop to aid you in quickly stealing, modifying, and then selling various cars, buying an airfield or hangar to aid in your cargo smuggling via the skies, buying a decommissioned military bunker and hiring a team of scientists and machinists to research and develop new and exciting weapons to use and sell in bulk, buying a doomsday bunker to ride out the apocalypse should you and your crew fail to prevent it.

And then there's starting up your own biker gang, buying an abandoned building and turning it into a clubhouse HQ, and then buying more property and using the TOR network to aid you in starting up a cannabis farm, meth lab, cocaine lockup wherein your illegal immigrant employees will cut your product accordingly, documents forgery place, and counterfeit money plant, then using them to ensure the majority of weed, meth, coke, and fake documents people purchase comes from you, while you also flood the streets with phony cash to help tilt the economy in your favor and save some bucks while your at it. All the while fighting off other crime syndicates or corporations or gangs to establish regional dominance and also taking up contracts to lend your skills and resources to those who pay the right price.

And the cherry on top is your personal office inside your penthouse suite or mansion wherein you and a trusted few will plan and execute bank robberies, prison breaks, coordinate a massive theft of illegal drugs from gangs, which you will then attempt to sell yourselves, and also plan out how you're gonna undertake a clandestine raid on a laboratory as a favor to your friends in the CIA who are undoubtedly benefitting from your criminal activities in more ways than one, because not helping them means those CIA buddies will bring the full force of the American military-industrial-intelligence complex down upon your entire syndicate.

But even if you don't do or don't have the resources for such over the top high risk high reward criminality, you can still live in a dingy LA apartment Or desert suburban house and scratch out a living with your hustles. Stealing cars and repoing cars for the shady car dealer, making drug exchanges with dangerous cats on behalf of the big homies, doing various assassination jobs for a number of clients, or even undertaking a spree of stick-up jobs at various convenience stores. Hell, maybe you're not even a real criminal. You just dig street racing.

Also, you can drink alcohol and smoke weed in the game, so you can be drunk/high in real life AND in the game! MAXIMUM IMMERSION!

Basically the point I'm making with this tirade is that people don't seem to realize that to fully enjoy GTA Online, they gotta open up their imaginations. The tools are all there. Ain't no harm in some fun role-playing, you know? Story mode just happens to take it to the next level but also in a different direction, as there are soooo many more fine details, subtle things that make you feel immersed in the lives of Mike or Frank or Trev, but just without any of the full-on total personalization of who you are and look/act like, what your backstory is, what your motivation is, and what you ultimately choose to do with your time that Online offers, as all of those things are largely already established for you in story mode, which suits it fine.

It's like a really great example of two kinds of role-playing. You have an established character who you take control of, and play through a slice of this persons life while making the choices *that character you're playing as* would make. On the other side of the coin you have a total blank slate, a block of clay for you to mold however you chose, plopped in a great big open sandbox with a staggering variety of personal choices and you navigate this sandbox while making whatever choices you seem fit. Be it the choices a character you've thought up would make, or the choices that you personally would make. And Rockstar once again nails it.

I'm pretty excited to see what GTA VI's online will bring. There's so much to build upon, it could be truly revolutionary.
/over sized rambling drug induced rant on how much i fuckin love GTA V, probably my favorite installment of the series (which i say as a guy who's beaten GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, IV, and V and has done pretty much everything there is to do in Online).

Yeah and tbh I doubt rockstars looking to make a gta5 Western clone. That could completely diminish an online community they continue to pump resources into. If they were going to have an in depth online aspect of read dead it'd have to offer different and more unique things to keep GTA online afloat. If they simply make a more updated GTA 5 ol timey Western version what would happen to gta5?

I love gta5 but the online pissed me off because its so grindy. I finally saved up a million dollars for a biker club house only to find out it costs another million to buy a weed farm or meth lab. Its fun but it just sucks that games like death match only get you like 15,000$ per game. I usually don't want to play whatever 2x exp/money events going on. Its usually a race that lasts like 15 minutes. The shit gets boring. I don't know, I think the shark cards and the fact that everything's so god damn expensive ruins shit. Maybe I need to play with other people and get a crew. Ill probably give it another go one of these days though. And while the single players fun, doesn't anyone miss eating, getting fat or ripped, or the girlfriends like in san andreas? The strippers are a poor substitute. It would of been cool to unlock something if you hung out with Amanda or Lamar enough. What they need to do is put some of the online stuff in single player, I would love to drive some of those cars or the jetpack offline.

That's almost sad because for ages EA were fucking gods. If you never fell for them it means you never had the goodwill that came from them being the absolute best and that is sad. Most of us gave them a chance then another, I mean they were solid gold for ages, then another, then at some point we snapped.

I haven't bought anything EA in 5 years now. I got burned a couple of times and realised they'd never release anything worth the actual money they charged, and they've gotten worse, copy protection that diminishes the games, half the game in microtransactions to exploit the sunk cost fallacy and double the price they charge.

Actually activision it's about the same. Ubisoft are fucking disgusting too and uplay punishes me for not piratung but rocksmith was one of a kind, except the sequel which was better.

Later on i we got the Sega Genesis, while the neighbor kid had the neo geo, and another kid down the hallway had a decent pc where we used to play Duke Nukem 2. I was a big fan of the PC mostly, and i would visit my friend's apartment at ungodly hours hoping il get to play a game. We didnt know anyone who owned a snes or a gamecube so i was never exposed to Nintendo games. We all probably thought it was too childish or something. I only played Zelda OoT two years ago and thought it was amazing. It definitely deserves its reputation.

I love the entirety of Bloodborne's OST, but I was helping my friend get past Ludwig last night and holy fuck I forgot how incredible the music for this fight is, it just fits so damn well thematically and contextually with the whole thing, especially when the track changes with the second phase of the fight.

Not a big fan of the game. I mean i liked it to an extent, but i only carried all the way to the end because of the soundtrack. I think that i really enjoyed the music because it was so in sync with the gameplay itself. You get your ass kicked, but you keep playing because the music is just too good. I think there is some kind of niche hardcore kind of games out there that does this kind of gameplay often but im not aware of it, i just picked this up on a whim.

Yea because the original totally didn't have that also, right?

Speaking of movie soundtracks, this one from Alien Isolation is pretty cool:
IIRC the same flute motif is in the original movie soundtrack but just really short. I like how this one drones i out a bit more.

I liked the movie though. Tom Cruise playing the likable douchebag and that australian guy was also pretty decent. I'm not really sure what people were expecting from a movie like that but i got what i asked for and some. I dont know, im a fan of The Dark Man movies and the Mummy was just the thing i wanted. It did pretty well in China so im sure they'll continue making Dark World movies in the future.

Great . I think i prefer this game out of all the WayForward games out there, including the Shantae series. I really love it when a licenced game turns out well nowadays. Back in the 90s we used to get those a lot but now theyre making movies out videogame IPs which i dont think ever turns out well enough to bother with.

Meh, to each their own I guess. I just felt it was really bland. I mean, at least the original Mummy with Brendan Fraser was a pastiche of 1930s adventure movies. This new one was just swooshy CGI effects and some really cringey dialogue. I kinda fel that the Fraser ones were at least somewhat self-aware about it.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze - Mon, 03 Dec 2018 05:12:10 EST +Bkbq1uY No.731322 Reply
Yeah I'd say so. Which is too bad, since stuff surrounding the combat is neat.
For example thrash weapons actually feel like trash, you have to keep mending them all the time for them not to break apart on you, which makes getting some quality steel later on feel like a bigger thing than it usually does.
Many other small details like that spread out too. I'd say pirate it and give it a whirl, and if you end up enjoying your time with it give them a tip in the form of a purchase, even if's more like a proof of concept demo for some neat mechanics with really nice lewd art on top than a full fledged game.

which is entertaining until you accidentally do it a couple times trying to talk to someone and suddenly everyone is murdering you.

what kept putting me off was the weapons and gear constantly breaking and barely doing anything before running back to town for more gear and repair items. someday i should finish it.
Zero - Tue, 04 Dec 2018 02:06:38 EST +Bkbq1uY No.731392 Reply
Weapons should drop often enough that it shouldn't be that much of a problem, even if they do break much more than other games. I always had a bunch of extras to just change to when the one in use broke. Just checking, but were you entering combat with slimes with your normal gear? Cause they're corrosive and fuck your equipment up super fast.

Gta music is licensed shit so who cares. At least GTA2 got music from obscure artists that reflected the personality of the gangs you dealt with in the game. other GTA games just picked music whatever dominated pop culture at the time and were done with it.

You want great music go for Halo. It's so good, you dont need to have played Halo to know what you're listening to is from Halo. That's how iconic it is.

I believe the first one came out on the PSP, and the sequel on the DS. The Nintendo DS also has a couple of good SEGA rpg games.

Been playing it on the Vita. It's so versatile. I've been using it to get through some of the PC98 visual novels.
Anything I install on it looks better than the console it released on thanks to that delicious OLED screen. I also bought two more from Tokyo, red and blue. looked brand new, dirt cheap, and all I had to do was change the battery.

Ok good then I will start with that one!

Playing PC98 games on Vita? Ones that aren't actually ported? Hm well this is something I'll have to look into. Does that mean the old Touhou games may work the same way?

Of course, I imagine most of those old games never released in English so not too much point in me playing them now... but even still!

I enjoyed Steins Gate a lot. I would check out the VN and at least complete a couple of routes before watching the anime. The nice thing is even if you do watch the anime first (I did) there are plenty of surprises to be had in the VN.

Other than that I don't know of many specifically on PS4. A lot of anime games on PS4 use visual novel style story telling. Anything by Idea Factory will be a visual novel kind of story on top of other gameplay (usually RPG).

Do you have an android phone? You can run a lot of visual novels on those.

I would imagine so. I haven't really tried a lot of them, but anything I throw at it, it runs pretty smoothly. Some hiccups here and there but nothing daunting.

It's funny you would mention Steins;Gate cause it's one of those visual novels I had a hard time getting into after I watched the anime. It was a little too Chuuni, in the anime it was fine cause you get to zone out a bit. I still enjoyed it a lot once I got into it, but its definitely one of those VNs that I needed time to get into. My personal dark Chuuni past might have had s hand in that

Idea Factory has a lot of potential but I feel it was wasted on half baked games and outsourcing recently. I do really like their style but I'm just waiting till the next mainline Neptune game before I pass judgment. I played White heart Vita game and it was atrocious. Copy pasted bosses, including the final boss, and highly repetitive gameplay. I was honestly surprised just how bad it was.
But I get you. I prefer the Atelier games on the Vita over the Ps3 since they follow a more traditional visual novel style instead of the 3d models.

Yeah I have an android phone, Galaxy 10+. I bought specifically to play Visual Novels but I never got around to figuring out how to do it. How do you go about doing it?

Ahaha well Cortana up there was asking about PS4 VNs and Steins Gate specifically, but I couldn't think of many since I didnt try much on PS4 other than Clannad. I am still really behind however many I try to play, there are a million more I haven't.

You know, I thought the new Azure Lane looked so cool when it first got announced and now I'm not even tempted to try it for similar reasons you mentioned. It straight up doesn't look fun enough, even with all of the cuteness. If anyone did play it I'll be happy to hear about it.

I only ran Fate/Stay Night on VNDS for android and ended up not actually playing through it, but it seemed to work ok and I think there are lots of novels compatible with that. It does take quite a bit of work to get everything up and running as I remember. You gotta convert them and then install them to the app from a PC.

Wowies 10+... I was playing a lot of games on the Note 9 and the little machine could run anything I threw at it. I'm using a V40 now and praying to the goddesses it holds up. Runs Mabi Mobile well enough anyways.

I cant seem to get VNDS to work with modern Visual Novels. I really wanted to play Oral Lessons with Chi-chan but I guess it's too demanding. Cant imagine how to go about it.

Fate/stay night is an either love it or hate kind of VN. Personally I liked it, but not as much as the other fans. What's a super serious Visual Novel have you played that you liked?

Got I hated that fucking game... Why the FUCK does a knight have infinite throwing swords? Cause FUCK IT that's why.

It'd have atleast made sense if all the classes were spellcasters with wands, tomes, and staves... or just rangers shooting arrows, crossbows, throwing spears, etc....

But nope, you run around like a fucking tard throwing fucking swords that you magically pull out of your ass.

Rampage was alot more enjoyable than that crap.

Nb for rant, but I seriously fucking hated Gauntlet.... and Diablo 3 for having some of the same stupid shit. Diablo 1 and 2 were solid though. And Diablo 2 had some dope soundtracks.

I hated that game because it was an obvious quarter sucker arcade port. RED WARRIOR NEEDS FOOD BADLY every 2 minutes. Fuck that shit.

Yeah they should have made a cowboy style arcade game where you just throw the pistols and guns instead of shooting them. Makes total sense right?
