We've all heard the rumors, but it's official. The Master Chief Collection is coming to PC. When and how much will it be? Who fucking knows, but it's coming to Steam and the Windows store.

I remember back in highschool fucking people up on halo CE, locked away in my bedroom on my pc, chugging cans of mountain dew back to back like a fat redneck chain smoking cigarettes.

I'm so STOKED ahhhghhh

I have my own personal concerns, so I'm not getting too hyped. The original MCC was far from a perfect package, but we've seen some pretty decent recent games from Microsoft Studios save for Age of Empires DE.

We'll see, it does look promising and the fact that it's not Windows store exclusive is pretty neat.

It's cool it's going to be on Steam too instead on just the Win10 Store. Also cool that they're throwing in 4 and Reach, although if they're doing non-MC games now I'd like to see ODST too.

Not cool that each game is going to be drip-fed over who knows how long instead of released as one package, so I'll be waiting for the Collection to be an actual collection before bothering.

They know nobody wants to buy heavy hitting software on the Windows10 store.

The free copy of Gears of War 4 I got didn't survive my first reinstall and I haven't thought about it until this very moment.

Know what I use on the Windows10 store? Duolingo and VLC.

It's a completely different version of VLC from the desktop one and much more suited to playing music over video.

About fucking time. I swear everytime I'd see something posted from Halo's Facebook page, there'd always been comments about wanting MCC and Reach on PC. I do enjoy playing the MCC and they've fixed a lot of the issues from launch and it's especially fun being able to finally play Halo 1 online including the PC exclusive maps and playing Halo 2 again like I used to in high school. I hope they release Reach as part of MCC cause they got some good multiplayer maps and gametypes on there.

>>733273
>although if they're doing non-MC games now I'd like to see ODST too.

It's already available for download as part of the MCC on Xbox One. I remember when MCC launched and they had matchmaking issues and stuff, they made it a free download for those who first played it though now you have to pay.

What a waste. I genuinely like the design and controller of the Xbone. With all The Studios Microsoft bought last year and all the boasting of the games that are in development, I thought they were gonna come back hard but looks like it wasn’t meant to be. Not a fan of the console market being dominated by the Japanese companies. I don’t trust Nintendo, at some point in the future they’re going to act like their old dickish selfs and Sony will follow suit.

Played it last year. I can attest the first Halo is great. Not perfect but it’s still a lot of fun and did so many things right. Sadly I never got to finish the entire series. I couldn’t manage to run Halo 2 on my PC any way I tried it and I wasn’t really gonna buy a Xbox just to play one game.
I’m actually looking forward to this. I’m excited to try out the multiplayer too, that’s a big part Halo I never got to experience.

Basically the question is "will it do co op?" and "what are the details of co op". Because that's what elevates halo from most games. And that some of the stuff like warthogs and flanking tanks seem to actually add options beyond "there's more bros" when you play with a friend.

I've never owned a halo game or an xbox but I've completed all of them including Reach with a friend at some point and loved it.

You mean Co-op on PC? I'd hope that they do considering that they have it for MCC on Xbox One and that has been one of the cornerstones of the franchise. I've also beaten all the games on co-op with a friend too except Halo 5 since that doesn't have split screen co-op but they're supposedly bringing it back for Infinite.

Halo was a bit cheesy. But the reason it was hailed at the time as a breakthrough was its significant stride forward with enemy AI, and great cooperative play.

You may not have liked the style (I didn't) but it was still a good game. I grew up on DOOM and Heretic, then Quake, UT, CS before it was 1.6, sure. Every game had its own thing going on. You can't deny the fact that Halo was a good game -- at the time.

How would removing offline co-op and multiplayer mean more copies sold? If anything that's going to shut out people that are unable to access that stuff online especially if they're living in a place without a high speed internet connection. There's plenty of people that have time for that especially those using system link to do tournaments for e-sports competitions and conventions.

That is correct:

>Since the MCC on PC will require an Xbox Live account and will be connected with Xbox Live, you might be curious about why you won't need Xbox Live Gold. It's because Microsoft decided that Xbox Live games on non-Xbox platforms won't require a subscription to Xbox Live Gold. This is most likely because every other service on the PC platform doesn't require a paid subscription, so to make PC players pay for Xbox Live titles would have gone over poorly with the PC community.

The only downside is since they're releasing each game one at a time in chronological order, you have to purchase each game separately but hopefully they can make it so each game will be like $10 or you can get the full collection for $60 and get the games as they come out like a season pass.

nvm no season pass:

>Players can purchase each title one-by-one along the way or wait until the collection is complete at the end. We don't have any plans for a 'season pass' model. For context, it gets tricky when we have a flexible release plan that ties to flighting and ongoing development - it's hard to definitively promise a player when they'll get the thing they paid for (or even what features may or may not be there at one time). We have to get this right on PC and do so in a way that doesn't potentially upset customers.

there have only ever been a few games I would be willing to buy multiple times.
Tenchu Z, 2 or 3 times, used copies all
Galactic civilizations 2 gold, First time bargain bin at an office store, 2nd time for all xpacks on steam.
and Reach, 2 times so far used copy the second time

For a PC port I'd go for 40 for a full package, maybe more if the player count is high. TBH I'd still be playing Reach online if it wasn't 15 per month. That was worth it back when online was fresh and new and I didn't have my own custom built rig. But monthly subs for any thing other than iRacing, and that's as niche as you can get, or a good MMO and even then that's just about unheard of out side of WoW or Eve, it's just not worth it just to play halo. What I can say is even then Reach has dedicated players in the few thousands and Halo CE and 2 on PC still have regular games with multiple populated servers. Halo 3 PC also has plenty of players if you count ElDewrito with full halo 3 settings. The only thing we have been missing is Reach and with better server support and the remaster I'm sure all halos are going to have plenty of players.

There's a lot of people that still play Halo online. Reach on 360 still has like 1000-2000 players online and there's a lot that play Halo 5 and MCC on a daily basis. I'm sure there will be plenty playing on PC.

I liked Reach's campaign for the most part, especially the final missions showing off the desperation of the Noble Team as they get more and more overwhelmed. The maps were also a lot better for Forge and I'd get into one of those random Xbox groups back in the day that would just invite their entire friends list to custom map games and end up playing for hours, then people from that game would invite you to their friends list so you'd just keep playing with cool random people while finding out about new maps. It also helps that Reach was the first one that I was actually in the online community when it was hot for; I didn't have Xbox Live when Halo 2 was out and I was too late to Halo 3 for the community to be there.

I'm also fond of Halo 3: ODST because it's one of the only campaigns I beat on Legendary and one of the only ones that I have a Vidmaster achievement for. The firefight mode was also fun.

>The next question we hear a lot is “how much will the MCC PC games cost?” On PC, we’re excited to confirm that each game within MCC will be included with an Xbox Game Pass for PC subscription as they become available. In addition, each title can be purchased individually – Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4 will be offered at $9.99USD on both the Microsoft Store and Steam while Halo 3: ODST within MCC (with a current scope of Campaign only), will be available for $4.99USD. Players will have flexibility to purchase any or all the games at any point along the way as they become available.

Looks like I was right about the pricing but that's good its gonna be that.

The only one I know I want is 3. Reach had the loadout system and its Grifball was subpar compared to 3's....then again, picking invis+radar jam loadout on Sword Base was a highlight for me.
2 good multiplayer games for $20 is a fuckin steal.

That's cool that it'll be on steam. State of Decay 2 isn't on steam and I am not the biggest fan of the windows store aside from the Play anywhere which I assume won't work if you own the game on steam. In fact know that it doesn't work since I need to repurchase Ark since I own it on steam and now Microsoft, but the multiplayer will still work. Anywho I own The Master Chief Collection of Xbone, will it just appear in my Windows store once it's released.

It ain't good boys. Unlimited framerate feels whack as shit and the audio mix is terrible. Also audio doesn't sync sometimes and graphics options are really barebones. It's free on XGP, so no big deal, but it's kind of a bummer. Hope they patch it soon, but it sounds like it needed way more time in the oven.

Also depending on what OS you have you have a different audio bug. Windows 7 has the audio die randomly, while Windows 10 has audio crackle. It's really bad in the campaign, along with the music or voices clipping between leading to really awful sounds.

My complaints so far have been:
  1. This Season Points shit is awful, and a clear step down from Reach's system. Reach had linear unlocks as well, but it wasn't straight railroading like this is. If anything, it makes me realize how nice ED was in having everything from the start, because it avoids situations like this game where everyone looks like each other due to the railroading. Additionally, the only way to level up is by playing matchmaking which has an XP cap, while in original Reach you could get Cr for doing pretty much anything.
  2. Can't crouch while moving. You have to either stand still to crouch or jump. You can uncrouch while moving, but you can't crouch which is stupid design. Best part is apparently this is a "feature" according to the devs.
  3. Audio mixing. Multiplayer isn't bad, but the campaign is horrendous. I was close to muting my speakers during the space segment of Long Night of Solace because of how atrocious it sounded.

My personal favorite is when the game can't decide on a music track or voice clip to play, so it plays all of them at once.
I had that happen in the second half of the game a lot, where the music played two different tracks and the same characters were talking different lines. Made the sound a clusterfuck.

It's really odd because I remember looking forward to this game, but this point it feels like I'll just trudge through to get my solo Legendary campaign done and forget about it until this shit is fixed.

While it is easier to unlock stuff for MCC Reach, I do agree that they should have kept the credits system for being able to unlock stuff based on what your rank is instead of having there be an order to unlocking each item.

I don't really like the anniversary graphics, but the novelty of being able to switch between those and classic is neat, I just wish you could do it in cutscenes. Compared to the shitshow that Reach was, this is actually really solid for $10.

Having played MCC on Xbox One since it came out, I think the MCC version of Halo Anniversary was an improvement from the 360 version especially since switching between the original and remastered graphics is now instantaneous instead of having to wait a second or two to load. I also like the new addition of being able to listen to the original multiplayer sound instead of the remastered sound. Halo 1 multiplayer on the MCC is also a lot of fun especially with the social playlist options you can choose from. I usually play 4v4 or 8v8 with Asset Denial, Action Sack, Flag and Bomb, and Zone Control enabled.

I can't be the only one who thinks this "remastered" version of Combat Evolved is absolutely scuffed right? I want to enjoy it but my god the hacks at 343 Studios have made it a real fucking chore with their lazy work. CE was the first "modern" game that I owned and I could not count the amount of times I played it through when I was a greasy teen. So I am a bit upset with how lacklustre this remaster feels.
Sure it has some new flashy graphics, but they have no polish and some characters just look absurd (Cortana and Captain Keyes being the main offenders here). The ridiculous level of colour saturation just drains the atmosphere that the original had. Sure the original CE was not exactly pretty but it felt at least adequate for the times, these new graphics look embarrassing for their release time.
I have grenades colliding with door ways with about a half meter from the actual doorway. The cursed plasma pistol audio. Plasma rifles don't seem to fire projectiles, I can see the gun flare and the point that the projectile is hitting but not the projectile itself. Oh and why the hell do hunters make noise now? I enjoyed them being silent juggernauts, but now they just sound like beefy elites. I wont even touch on their retcon of the whole humans are forerunners thing because those a subjective and murky waters. I haven't tried multiplayer yet but I have heard some worrying things about it.

Halo 1 multiplayer is pretty fun to play in MCC. I recommend playing 8 vs. 8 Action Sack especially since it has Mayhem with playing CTF, King of the Hill and Slayer on small maps. Halo Anniversary multiplayer, whenever they have the playlist available for the week, is alright but I think Halo 5's Anniversary Throwback playlist, which is available to play until Thursday, is quite better.

Despite my bitching, I ended up buying it.

H2:A campaign is actually fucking rad. It's fun as shit, runs well, looks and sounds solid and toggling between the original visuals and audio and the Remaster assets doesn't really get old. The new art style fits the game much better than Halo CE: Anniversary and it just feels a lot less janky overall.

H2 Classic multiplayer is also still a lot of fun, especially if you've played the original and it's a bit of a mindfuck to play Lockout at 165hz and a modern resolution for the first time in over a decade in my case. H2A MP doesn't run well on my rig and sucks shit at the moment.

It's not perfect, but I don't regret spending a tenner on it. It's fun as shit, runs well except for the MP H2A, looks great and the original H2 multiplayer is a lot of nostalgic fun. I was skeptical, but this one seems to have been handled a bit better than the previous two.

It probably has to do with Halo CE: Anniversary just being an upscaled version of the 360 version whereas H2: Anniversary was built from the ground up on Xbox One.

H2 multiplayer is still plenty of fun and makes me nostalgic from when I used to play it online back in high school. H2A multiplayer is pretty awesome though especially with the improved graphical HUD interface and match types. When they had Grifball as the weekly playlist last week, I liked playing the H2A version the best.

It's alright. H1C sp and mp are decent enough. The anniversary graphics are kind of jank and IMO don't really fit the style all that well. I think there are also some relatively minor issues with the Classic graphics, but for $10 or less it's fine.

  • unreasonably huge crosshairs
(am I the only one who hates these stupid "hollow in the middle-crosshairs" that are so prevalent on console-games?)
  • still no gibbing and decals

meh.

I'm pretty happy with how halo 2 classic came out, was one of my favorite games.

Wish you could do slayer with some maps removed though, I don't know all the newer ones.

Seriously, why can't you customize at least the social matchmaking playlist?

I still haven't played a single game on Zanzibar. Also really fucking sucks that H2A multiplayer is locked to 60. It's like they get one thing right and two things wrong.

Did they fuck up the BR and SMG fire rate? People are always complaining about framerate yet apparently I'm the only one who ever noticed this in like every Halo port so far....

They seriously screwed with it in El Dewrito and Project Cartographer/H2V. People will deny it and they are wrong. It was impossible to ignore, as somebody who spent years playing H2 MLG. It's in the changelogs or configuration settings somewhere, I forget. The latter actually had a game type to restore the original settings.

El Dewrito BR fire rate completely changed the game and ruined every other weapon, last time I played. It's hilarious how many MLG wannabes will vehemently deny what is an obvious fact and tell you to get good. Project Cartographer or H2 Vista made the SMG fire faster and was like an instant kill if you duel wielded

Shit drives me nuts and makes the game no fun to play. It's all done to pander to competetive players who want to 360 noscope everything. Go play fucking snipers.... Vanilla Halo is not and should never be a twitch arena FPS.

You can customize it by gametype by auto/precision slayer, asset denial, flag and bomb, etc. Can't customize what maps you want to play on though since it's preset depending on the gametype, game, and amount of players.

Issues I've had center on it being a re-release of the gearbox port, without fixing the broken shaders or improving the netcode. Disappointment comes from 15 year-old problems returning. In addition, the music playback is broken now, causing music to loop the opening measures in-game.

For me, the disappointment is that the port was not improved and has new issues. If I didn't play it in 2004, I doubt these problems would get to me as much (except the music problem), so if you want to play some Halo CE on a computer I doubt you'll be unhappy.

More info about Halo 3: ODST Firefight and Halo 3 from the latest community update:

>Already own Halo 3: ODST for MCC? The addition of Firefight to Halo 3: ODST in MCC will come at no extra charge. When it becomes available, your game should update to add it in without any fuss.

>Don't own Halo 3: ODST for MCC? This addition does not change the $5 USD cost of Halo 3: ODST across all platforms.

>Customization: Updated customization will be available for Halo 3. This includes being able to select specific armor pieces. In the screenshot above I'm rocking a Hayabusa helmet, different shoulders, and the flaming armor chest piece. It also means being able to displaying your emblem on your shoulder and armor detail colors in-game.

>Forge: Forge will be available for players during this flight. This includes new physics properties, like being able to set an object to 'Phased' so it can merge easily, and tons of new Forge objects.

>Theater: Theater will be available for use with Mouse & Keyboard for Halo 3.

>Challenges: The complete Challenge System, including the Challenge Hub screen, are available for the first time in this flight.

Managed to complete that challenge of doing three missions in Halo 3 campaign to get that Alliance nameplate. The only downside about MCC's new challenges feature are that some of them have to be completed in one sitting instead of being able to stop and resume later since it'll reset. I do like being able to customize my visors, weapon and vehicle skins for Halo 1 though.

They've been working on it for five years. Shamelessly using covid as an excuse when their latest presentation was subpar at most. This just 343 terrible mismanagement at work. I can't believe Halo is gonna miss the Xbox SeX launch.

Also their original creative director Tim Longo, who was Halo 5's creative director, had left 343 last year so you can imagine the creative changes they would have to make that would impact its development. Halo Infinite not being a launch title is a big loss for the Xbox Series X launch. I'll probably end up just getting it a few months later like I did with the 360 and Xbone.

I was thinking the same, but lately there are rumors the Xbox might cost as much as 600 us dollars which I'm not sure I'm ready to waste that much so soon.

It's a beautiful console though. My favorite of all time. I'm gonna get one for sure.

If I have the money, I might get one but it's not something I'm going to go out of my way to buy at launch especially if it's more than $500. Plus with smart delivery, I can just buy Infinite for Xbox One when it comes out and upgrade it to Series X later.

Just around to beating Halo 2: Anniversary and started Halo 3. Man, these games scratch an itch and I realized I don't remember dick about them from beating them in high school over a decade ago, so I'm basically playing them for the first time again.

Have they fixed Reach yet, because it was janky on release.

New MCC development update is out - https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/mcc-development-update-august-2020

Glad they're finally including a custom game browser and server region selection.

In order to unlock customization items for each season in MCC, you get season points for ranking up, completing challenges, etc. that you can spend on unlocking new customization items like weapon skins, vehicle skins, nameplates, and vice versa. Season 3 is only going to be 50 tiers compared to 100 for 1 and 2 each, which in the Halo 3: ODST flight have given players 50 points to unlock all of the items for season 3 to try out.

ODST came out on Tuesday on the 11th anniversary of its initial release. Playing Firefight and being able to use the Battle Rifle, Assault Rifle, Hornet, and Anti-Air Wraith is pretty cool, same with ODST exclusive weapons now being able to be used in Halo 3 multiplayer.
