Looked quite a few pages back and couldn't find the old one, maybe it went in the wormhole event?

Just tried and finished Gorogoa for the first time (I think, I seem to recall playing it before, but not really too). Really beautiful, quite short, would recommend.
Also on my first playthrough of The witness, have been at it a while. It just keeps giving. Small spoiler: That hidden away shipping container locked with a puzzle, actually had a giggle burst when you were rewarded with another puzzle for solving the puzzle.
Third but last, really loving Baba is You too, even though it melts my brain and I have to think far too long for alot of them (have still kept from looking up any solutions at all).

I'm playing Baba is You too, and that game's fun although I dislike how many of the levels seemingly only have one solution to them (or at least, just one solution to get past critical parts of them).
Saren - Mon, 08 Jul 2019 14:48:54 EST KPChXmhP No.739999 Reply
I would guess that it's probably that it's just harder to make a challenging puzzle with multiple solutions. At least from what I recall, the less constrained you were with changing the rules, the easier that level seemed.
I do recall being kinda disappointed that the total chaos you could introduce disappeared pretty quickly, but the headscratchers still make it worth it.

Also just had a session with The Room. It has very nice atmosphere. I don't know why, but somehow it makes me think of Grimrock, even though it doesn't share much at all with it. Maybe similiar graphics and how they have soundscape rather than soundtrack?
But the puzzles, it's essentially a long puzzle box. Sometimes I think they reuse a certain puzzle too many times, and they have a secret revealing eye lens mechanic you have to use, and I'd rather have it just rely on keen eyes and wits. But that's just nitpicking, and I'm certainly enjoying my time with it. Also just looked it up on steam, apparently it's on sale for just half an € right now.

great taste. beat The Witness back when it was new and it's still probably my game of the generation, and currently enjoying Baba is You. looks like i'll have to get Gorogoa some time then if you also recommend that.

How do y'all feel about puzzle platformers? Or do you prefer your puzzle games to be purely puzzles

Puzzle platformers are my jam. Everyone should try Vessel and Nihilumbra btw because those two don't get enough love from genre aficionados.

I just started replaying The Talos Principle recently. A fantastic puzzle game. A true 10/10.

Been playing this little game called Burnstar. Basically the goal is to blow up everything that you can in the level and pick up all the stars. Theres a limited amount of bombs in the level, stars on the ground only pop up when the explosion hits them, fire spreads on the goop and also spreads from red to orange to yellow boxes.
Its pretty fun figuring out where bombs need to go to cause a specific chain reaction and trying to get 100% before the time limit

It's definitely worth the playthrough, though it's more of a very delicious, chewy and satisfying granola bar rather than the three course dinner with the love of your life that is The Witness.
The only puzzle platformer I can think of that I've played would be Braid (also how I found The Witness (same dev)), I enjoyed that, alot.
Actually never heard of those before, putting them in my bucket!
I saw that mentioned and everywhere on youtube and such after it launched, so much that I... I dunno, maybe it checked the same boxes as ads mentally and got blocked out? I never actually considered playing it. Will have to give it an honest chance.

Easily the best first person puzzler I've played. Better than Portal imo.

Currently playing baba is you myself, holy fuck what a game! Hard as shit though.

If you guys enjoyed The Talos Principle you'll probably also like The Turing Test. Similar to the point where it seems like a knockoff, but I enjoyed it.

You should know that it's way easier and way shorter though. I finished it in five hours, including all "secret" objectives. It's cool though.

It's not as though there are many good entrants. Portal was milquetoast in character but had a great gimmick. Talos Principle also has an interesting storyline, but didn't quite have the pull needed to bring me through to the end. I think it was missing some psychotic elements.

I agree. I'm in the process of playing Road To Gehenna for the first time and the star puzzles are kicking my ass.

Recently bought Fez on PS4 on sale. Its really good, I really enjoy the atmosphere and how it blends well with the music. Definitely recommended puzzle game.

Fez is a weird one. The initial playthrough isn't really a puzzle game at all, more of a platformer with a neat (slightly puzzlish) mechanic, and then the post-game is one of the most obscure puzzle games ever made. Enjoyed the normal playthrough as just a cool but ultimately unchallenging platformer, but I don't remember making too much progress in the post-game when the actual puzzles started before I shelved it. Maybe I'll come back to it some day, it's been years. Fantastic aesthetics though for sure.

Can you explain a little more? i've had my eye on Fez for a while, I played the demo and it seemed the only puzzle aspect was finding your way to the yellow cubes, does it really get that cryptic?

Haven't played since launch, but pretty sure there were additional collectibles that are really well hidden. Some puzzles got pretty meta, like booting up the game during certain hours of the day iirc.

Sounds neat, that actually makes me more interested. thanks

I gave Nihilumbra a go the other day, and I gotta be honest I didn't like it that much. Would probably have liked it more back as an edgy teen (if you played it during a bout of edgy depression I can kinda see why you'd have nostalgia for it). At least as far as I got, seemed quite watered out to make space for more frames to write on. Not enough meat.

Endorfun is good.
It stirred up some controversy when it was released, because of its use of subliminals to deliver positive, life-affirming messages.

why the fuck that sort of subliminal messaging is scary to people is beyond me. Loved that fucking game

Cause its an easy to understend, yet hard to think about reminder of the truly subliminal brainwashing we're exposed to on a daily basis, without even knowing it.

I really enjoy Zachtronics games but I usually get stuck and take a break for months and forget everything and have to start over.
