Well he did shoot you in the face and then he acts all smarmy about it when you catch up with him. Then he tried to kill you again. I mean, if he at least apologized and explained that you were in the wrong place at the wrong time , gave you a couple hundred caps, and gave you the room then maybe he could be forgiven, but the bastard just keeps giving you more reasons to kill him.

Being voiced by Matthew Perry didn't help his chances either.

That fucking guy killed me at the start of New Vegas.
I swear I'll get my revenge if I happen to ever play the game for more than 20min.

You gotta admit the build-up to killing him is great, and there's so many avenues to take.

>Sneak up and shoot him in the back of the head like a mob movie
>Slip a fat mine under his barstool
>Hit him with poison throwing knife
>Knock him unconscious with boxing gloves then meticulously break all his limbs
>Sic a cyborg dog on him
>Have sex with him and then kill him afterward, not unlike a praying mantis
>face him in a gladiator arena like a star trek fight scene
>have him crucified
>complete all DLCs, buy all implants, and hoard unique items to confront him as an armored, sci-fi death knight.
>pummel him with metal nuka-cola road sign

The fact there even is a video game where you have all these different ways to off Matthew Perry is a small miracle

Last time I played New Vegas, I was decked out and laid waste to his entire staff before blowing up this little bitch's face clean off with a magnum and there's nothing that he could do about it. It felt good.

Dumbass. Beeny is just a puppet, being manipulated by forces beyond his control. Sure he did put two bullets inside your skull, but it wasn't really him who pulled the trigger. It was House who stood there and watched you die knowing full well there was something to do about but chose not since he'd rather scrape it off your corpse than deal with an actual person. You just happen to live, which was just the thing to make him die.

I killed a lot of NPCs in my life but nothing brought me as much pleausre as Shooting House in the face as he begged for mercy Hail Caesar!

You obviously don't understand the story if you think house is responsible for your death. He only hired you to bring him the chip. Benny tried to kill you because you had the chip and he knew it was valuable. That robot in goodsprings was malfunctioning and wasn't actually a part of house, and if it was a part of house, then house saved your life because that robot saved your life by notifying the doc that you got shot.

House wasn't a villain at all. He was an anarcho capitalist. But if you sided with Caesar because you actually agree with him, then you're crazy.

With House in control humans will return to the Moon and beyond in a few generations. He's the good guy in this. The Courier was just unlucky, you don't honestly think a centuries old mastermind should directly intervene to save some smelly wastelander's life just because?

House did nothing wrong.

There was also a bunch of other weird subplot junk with Ulysses being the guy who set up the whole platinum chip shenanigans in the first place. But yeah, it wasn't really Benny doing all of that junk. He was just the trigger-man who was having his strings pulled by a bunch of different unseen forces.

That's plainly just false. I actually completely forgot about Benny and wasn't even sure that's who I was looking at. The writing of FNV was just subpar in general. I didn't like Benny but it wasn't that satisfying. What kind of a noob even comes up with this kind of idea? What a lame, poorly fleshed out character.

Now THIS is a guy that's satisfying to take out. Holy fuck, getting the chance to finally fucking kill him was damn near as satisfying as watching Joffrey choke on his own blood.

This, except I wasted that fuckers whole camp. It also bothered me that you couldn't take anyone down off the crosses. It was just stupid gameplay decisions. You can shoot them and they fall down, but I can't just untie a damn knot? Especially stupid considering you had a quest where it would make sense to do so. I really have no idea what the rationale behind it is that you can't just take people down off a crucifix and have to shoot them instead but I found it pretty immersion breaking.

Otherwise yeah I was going to say it was far, far more satisfying neutralizing Mr. House and seizing power from him, Caesar, and the retarded NCR. Benny was just a stupid puppet and ultimately a pretty forgettable one to me. I've killed a lot of NPCs and frankly if you asked me to come up with a whole list of the most satisfying NPCs to kill I don't think Benny would even cross my mind.

>House wasn't a villain at all.
>He was an anarcho capitalist
Pick one, and only one. And if he really wanted to go that Ayn Randian route well tough titties he probably shouldn't have underestimated the intellect and resolve of someone he meant as his easily discarded errand boy and useful idiot.

House was megalomaniacal. Granted he wasn't necessarily quite as bad as the Legion or NCRYes NCR was bad they were just too incompetent, bureaucratic, and distant to make their evil as fully known but he was still pretty damn bad.

The problem with Mr. House is that he was basically a self serving and ruthless oligarch. Why shouldn't he get deposed? If I'm going to be going by his rules then it might as well be somebody even more intelligent and capable than he is, and at the end of it all I realized that with all the bad options out there funnily enough the only other least bad option I could take was choosing me. It would equal an era of neutrality and at least an uneasy peace in the region, a free and prosperous New Reno meant for the benefit of the people who actually lived there.

House was ultimately just another echo of the past, and the same greed, egomania, general avariciousness and flawed thinking that ended the world to begin with. Their whole generation lost their right to rule when they killed the world.
Dregs - Mon, 21 Oct 2019 14:49:52 EST BmETl52y No.744480 Reply
House didn't destroy the world. He was there when it happened, and he saved as much of it as he could. That's why New Vegas is still standing. And he was a diplomat. He didn't just take all of New Vegas for himself. He set it up as a hub for the great powers of the wasteland to meet peacefully, and as a place where people could freely conduct trade without fear. House's direct neural link with the robots kept him aware of everything. He was a bit megalomaniacal, but for all intents and purposes he was a god. And a benevolent one, working towards creating a safer new world. He was working on building power to better serve humanity. The only reason the courier was able to kill him was because House made the mistake of letting him inside the Lucky 38.

I don't see how people see House as evil. His only rules were "You need money to get into the rich part of town" and "don't start shit or you'll die" which are pretty basic things. You want to keep crime out of your city if you're trying to create a place for diplomacy. And everyone has the right to self determination and the fruits of their labor.

By the way, with the robot army spread across the wasteland (courier takes over ending) New Vegas isn't as well protected as before. Meaning it's likely to get taken over by some other faction. The courier ending seems the least evil, but it does the most harm in the end.

More than Ceasar keeping slavery around?
The whole "echoes of a dead world" thing was pretty on-the-mark (even if I think it might've been in the game verbatim) since every one of those factions has a bit of that in it.....granted, House's route has "class conflict" and "wealth hoarding" which isn't nearly as bad as, say "a life of humiliating sex slavery/physical labor" but its still pretty shit.
I mean....what was his endgame? Turn the rest of the US into New Vegas? So 90% of the wasteland has electricity but Mr House still owns all the land and 95% of the money? He's not a shitty of a leader as Benny or Ceasar but he's still an untrustworthy, greedy prick who would kill you if it would make him an extra buck.

although I can't disagree with 9/10 of the things he says to you when you open his capsule. If it was up to me, I'd lead House along as long as I possibly could, then kill him once he starts getting too crazy....although he would probably only let you see him face-to-face with the Platinum Chip in hand and you'd be stupid to waste a chance like that
Mr. Saturn - Mon, 21 Oct 2019 18:23:50 EST afJjYeFN No.744487 Reply
I think you're making a big assumption. It's a big robot army. The courier ending is entirely dependent on your courier, if they're good it's the best ending. If you make the right decisions you basically kill the legion (especially if you nail Vulpes as well) and NCR become less expansionist, so it's very likely no one swallows you up because there is literally no one left to do it. You can enlist certain factions to keep "order" in parts of the desert so the Robots don't have to go too far.

What makes House less glamourous is that the little people are nothing to him. He has the big dream but actually "you need money" ends up with him forcing people out of their homes and into the wasteland which he doesn't give a shit about. Vegas is all he cares about and all he ever cared about. But credit to him he cares. A lot of people in the modern world are like House and they don't see themselves as evil but yet people die needlessly so they can live lives beyond anything most of us can dream.

The NCR is also flawed because again it's not an awful system or awful people but it's not great and there's a lot of career politicians and shitheads ruining it. You can help that but ultimately it's only a patch. No one ever disputes the NCR being a poor choice but they're not terrible.

What makes the courier ending sting is that while House and the NCR are not necessarily the best for Vegas, the people you fuck over (including House) genuinely believe they are and are really trying to do the right thing. In order to make the ideal Vegas with good karma you must step on some good people. It's the best ending but it has the cruelest most fucked up mid game short of joining Caesar.

House isn't evil perse, but he enables evil. He's not as smart as he thinks. He almost got whacked by Benny, and the Courier can whack House without a problem.

If House is allowed to continue to exist, it's only a matter of time until some conniving bastard whacks him and goes all Caesar's Legion.

Except instead of tribals roaming the Midwest, it's robots and pre-war combat machines dropping from orbit all over the globe.

HOW THE FUCK DOES NO ONE SEE THIS? The best thing is that he wants you to bomb the one and only group that would respect and protect House as he is, the Brotherhood of Steel.

House is egoistic, shortsighted, can't learn from his mistakes, is unable to distinguish between potential foe or friend, and he considers himself invulnerable.

>House is egoistic, shortsighted, can't learn from his mistakes, is unable to distinguish between potential foe or friend, and he considers himself invulnerable.
In other words, exactly like all the other assholes who ruined the world to begin with and started WWIII in House's lifetime. He's clearly a holdover from those stupid people and stupid times that caused WWIII and unlike the average civilian House was clearly one of those oligarchs, whose sole vision for the world is starting right back where they left off.

House is like the eternal boomer. A 200 year old, retarded planet killing boomer, who wants to recreate the same shitty society that killed the planet with the same shitty class system and artificial scarcity of resources to prop up the opulent lifestyle of a select few oligarchs.

I had no qualms killing him.

He had his chance. Two hundred years and he learned nothing of his mistakes. I'm glad I got rid of him and the Wasteland is better off without him.

My thoughts on House exactly. He has a big head, both figuratively and literally; on that giant screen of his. He's capable, smart...but helpless, even with an army of robots and this near perfect, 200-years-in-the-making plan of societal control, he still has to employ human assets to carry out certain goals, which has led to a variety of problems. Like Caesar, he wants to change and control human nature, but he can't. Only the Courier can decide if he ultimately succeeds or not. You can just get the platinum chip from Benny, hand it to house, and walk away. House pleads with you to stay and help, but if you dont, he just sits there in his Tower unable to complete his plans.
