Hello all,

I am someone who loves video games, but have always been a console fag (parents never bought me a nice computer, I never saved and built one, family computer was crap). I've played a lot of hearthstone, some runescape and adventure quest back in the day, and have loved on consoles games like Zelda (up to wind waker), fable, mass effect, knights of amalur, KOTOR, forza/generally racing games, and enjoyed some shooters when I was younger like halo 2 and 3, gears of War, battlefield 2, unreal tournament 3, and more.

I just got a new Dell G5 laptop with a Intel i7-9750 and Nvidia GTX 1660TI so I am super excited to finally be able to game on PC. I have a wired controller and a nice mouse.

Can anyone recommend some great PC games for me? I know there's tons and I don't know where to start. Part of me can't wait to get back into old games I love and I have a huge emulation collection I can't wait to move to the new laptop, but I also want some new and good PC games where I can actually use the power of my new machine. I also love RTS and plan on trying the new civilization unless there's something better.

If this breaks the rules mods delete, and sorry if it's not the most interesting topic for all, but I thought this the best place to ask. I like your guys opinions that I read.

Love the suggestions. I have new Vegas and some other games on gog I'll install, and I'll have to download steam and start a collection there.

Starcraft 2 has interested me before, Senshi looks cool, but Touhou isn't particularly to my taste. I like more RPGs and collecting games. Old favorites include banjo Kazooie, Pokémon, advance wars, Kotor, and Pikmin. Keep the suggestions coming, I love you guys.

hate to be boring, but, if you've never done skyrim on pc you should try that at some point. the hardware you have will handle the game plus almost any amount of visual enhancement you care to mod in. also skywind is on the horizon, uh eventually. the makers kind of pissed it by moving to skyrim special edition but yeah. (mostly me since my rig is subpar for running SE.)

more stuff:
the metro series. excellent shoot games.
roller coaster tycoon. riddled with dlc content otherwise excellent.
new doom.

Ark: survival evolved would look beautiful on your machine. Just don't play on official servers. They're a stupid time sink for no real reward.

I have a crappy graphics card and I still like it. Just don't take my screenshot as an example of the normal graphics because I've turned everything way down.

There is a ton of fun to be had, as long as you avoid the time sink bullshit.

I have been greatly enjoying spore, kingdoms of Amalur, and not being able to get burnout paradise to work on origin so far. I think burnout is my favorite racing game I love the crashes. Have to get into keyboard and mouse with mass effect 2. Got KOTOR2 also will have to get into modding that. I wish there were better new star wars games. I don't enjoy Force Unleashed and haven't tried battlefront 2 (huge download). Kind of like empire at war but it's a lot to learn, look forward to trying the new one that's coming but looks like force unleashed more than Kotor.

Sti open to more suggestions! Cheap games on steam or gog or games I'm missing on origin would be great.

I live downtown in a big city and am not rich so have crappy internet (15mb/s download) and also know nothing about torrents, have always avoided because of virus and legality issues. Can anyone rest my mind? I've downloaded lots of stuff so don't mind pirating too much, torrents have always just seemed stupidly complicated when I can just find a .zip on a reputable site and download it the normal way.

If you go for the ones with lots of seeds and read comments the risk is pretty low. Run a virus scan once in a while and if you dont type your credit card number too often you should be fine. Install a torrent client like uTorrent, go to Pirate Bay or a proxy site, search for stuff and click the right download button, then follow the instructions in the .txt or .nfo file (open it with notepad), its that easy. Google whatever is not clear.
Remember to seed and buy the games you enjoy, developers need your support.

And if you absolutely must make financial transactions and cant afford an old laptop for that purpose, you can always boot to some mini linux version from a pendrive

Based on your likes I would recommend Tides of Numenera if you like Planescape tier walls of text, and Wasteland 2 if you liked Fallout. If you're looking for RTS I'm sorry to tell you that the huge RTS craze of the late 90s has completely died. There's been like a handful in 2010 era and just like one new one in the decade since called Grey Goo. There has also been Company of Heroes I & II if you like WWII themed games, as well as Deserts of Kharak if you liked the Homeworld series, which come to think of it Homeworld 2 might not be so old you got to play it in which case I would recommend that too. A few good 4X games came out like Galactic Civilizations III, Endless Space 1 & 2, WH40K Gladius is alright I guess if you like the Civilizations style games.

In terms of that kind of KOTOR like thing there really hasn't been much except Witcher 1-3 afaik.

>all these people recommending FtP games
smdh fam

I mean they're not bad, it's just that well FtP is basically kind of shit and bad in itself. It's cool if you enjoy wasting your life on grind quests because you're too cheap to buy your games and have too lousy internet or are too scared/dumb to pirate them either.

Oh actually you know what there is one F2P that is actually good and not so much of a shitty pointless grindfest that's also probably right up OP's alley.

OP, you should try checking out Secret World Legends. Basically they changed a ton of shit and made The Secret World into a free game although it depends how spotty your internet is because it's an online game. Technically it's an MMO but you can pretty much play through the entire like 100 hour long game as just a singleplayer action RPG like KOTOR, Mass Effect, VTMB or whatever. The game itself is pretty much just browsing the /spooky/ board if /spooky/ was actually good as you explore all kinds of conspiracies and ancient legends.

even though it's technically a 4x game I strongly feel that Stellaris satiated that RTS itch way more than anything like SC2 ever could

Stellaris is a 4X that reaches for grand strategy and doesn't quite make it, but it's still better for trying.
