Horizon: Zero Dawn. Just "Horizon" would suffice, I don't know why tons of games these days feel the need to add the subtitles. A Plague Tale: Innocence for example. Just A Plague Tale would sound much better
I'm sure this is mostly subjective taste but cmon not every game needs to be Dragon Quest 11 S Echos of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition (actual fucking title)

Most Square Enix games that aren't a simple numbered sequel.

I mean look at this shit, they could have just called it Bravely Default 2 ffs.

STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic™ II: The Sith Lords

not a great game but Hunt: Showdown. Every time I say this name to someone they're like "wait what?"

This is barely relevant but when people say d2 and are referring to destiny 2 and not diablo 2, fuck you.

But you need that resident evil name for the sales. What they should have done is title it biohazard but then have "resident evil" slowly fade in right after the game ends and the title appears. Then everyone would freak out online like they did about PT and boom more sales. A stealth resident evil game just named biohazard.

>"The development of the first Resident Evil began in 1993 when Tokuro Fujiwara conceived it as a remake of his earlier 1989 Capcom horror game Sweet Home when the project was led by Shinji Mikami.[3][4] When in late 1994 marketing executives were setting up to bring the game to the United States, it was pointed out that a DOS game had been recently registered under that name, so a contest was held among company personnel to choose a new name; this competition turned up Resident Evil, the name currently known in the west."

It does with the first and the seventh one. You are stuck in this mansion, the residents are evil and they created all these monsters. It's a good name. Biohazard just reminds me of a hospital and sweet home gives off the wrong impression.

Sweet home is sort of word play. The common phrase is 'Home, sweet home" as is to say your home is the home that is sweet. By only including the last two words you get this feeling of something missing, something off. Who's home is sweet? Certainty not mine.

Resident can also be used as an adjective, which means present or inherent. Inherent Evil fits the series pretty well, and it's less generic than 'biohazard'.

Yeah, I agree about resident evil, but it's mostly because capcom has great title screens with juicy announcers. They can make even "devil may cry" sound like a good title. What the fuck is "devil may cry" even supposed to mean? It sounds like a japanese phrase google translated to english.

I always figured it was some kind of engrishy spin on the expression "Devil may care," which pretty much sums up how you're supposed to play those games. Just hop around like a lunatic on a pogo stick shredding everything with enormous weapons.

Pretty much, the literal and colloquial translation make a lot more sense but they don't make for a snappy title. Just google it I guess.

Devilman Crybaby is pretty descriptive if you watch it, though. There is a Devil-Man, and he is a cry-baby.

It'd be more understandable if it followed different styling or altered the word order to a more natural English one, thouh. "The Cry-Baby Devil" would probably be perfect, but you can't trademark that, so you need to Jap it the fuck up and get your Devilman(tm) and put your adjective after the noun because I guess English is the only fucking language in the world that puts adjectives before the noun and everyone hates us for it.

No, there's been female kings, Poland and Hungary come to mind.

Generally it's due to laws stating the king is head of state, and a woman being the desired heir by those in power, so they figure "lol we'll just crown a woman king"

In any case, we'll probably start seeing more and more "crazy" names in the future, especially for indie titles, because all the straightforward names are pretty much taken already.

IMO its a pretty good marketing title, you have the memorable, easy to communicate one word title in Hellblade, with the subtitle as the actual descriptive and specific title because that's super generic and could be almost anything

I think Hellblade also probably helped them use their studio's reputation for action games and put the focus on the combat to help sell to people who wouldn't otherwise touch a story based walking simulator about a woman with mental illness, even if that's the actual focus of the game and the combat is kind of a meaningless afterthought

Well the last game was called red dead revolver, a game about a man named red who owns a custom, hand-crafted revolver. They put the word "dead" in the title because it rhymes.

Now red dead redemption follows a different character who is not named red, who is trying to atone for past crimes. That game does also have revolvers though.
