About $500

It's amazing to realize how inexpensive this hobby can be when it keeps you from going out and spending money on the weekends. If I had a way to calculate all my hours of gaming this year it probably evens out to less than a dollar per hour.

I'd say about the same amount. A good chunk of it is Shadowbringers and the ffxiv sup, games I bought on release are few and I regret most of them. It would've been a lot worse if I didnt go full pirate half way through the year. Frankly speaking, I just dont have any more space in my house for this hobby. I could always turn one of the rooms into a game room but that's lame. Gaming should always be done in a bedroom me thinks. Living rooms are for normies.

Do NOT buy a gaming PC this year or in the following 2 years or so. It would be like buying a super high end PC just before the PS3 was released. You're gonna waste a lot of money on a PC that's gonna be destroyed by a console that's about half the price. This is literally the worst time to buy PC parts. Multiplatform games from this gen are gonna run like ASS on the PC, mark my words.
Dregs - Fri, 12 Jun 2020 01:19:44 EST 1gcP/wOX No.753281 Reply
You really think an out of the box console is going to do better than two titans with 32gb ram and an i7? You must be smoking the good shit today. PC benchmarks are what set console benchmarks.
Chihuahua Connoisseur - Fri, 12 Jun 2020 09:24:22 EST WKteIRRR No.753291 Reply
In many ways, yes, because storage speed is gonna be the biggest bottleneck on PC. The I/O on the ps5 is much faster than anything you can buy on PC because it has dedicated accelerators for this purpose. Even if you buy an SSD that's faster than what the ps5 has, it won't perform half as fast as the ps5's ssd because of the lack of a dedicated controller/accelerator thingy. I'm fucking dumb, Linus explains it much better than me: https://youtu.be/4ehDRCE1Z38

That being said, there's no way a ps5 or xbox series X are gonna be able to achieve even half of the ray tracing (or rasterization) performance of the next nvidia and amd graphics cards for PC. Multiplatform games will probably still perform better on very high pcs, but that's because the PC will act as a lowest common denominator this time and devs won't go crazy on the storage speed requirements when making their multiplatform games.

isn't this assuming most games will be developed with that tech in mind? it's not something that will just increase performance in all games because it exists.

I bought a pack of outfits and gun skins for the new insurgency game, but they're still a small company, it's legitimately the only game I play now, and I personally wanted to give them the money because I appreciate the continued work they do. Not sure how cs is, but insurgency gets decent sized updates every few months with new maps and weapons, and usually new gameplay additions, so it feels okay to me giving them a little extra money through a throw-away thing like cosmetics.

Normally I completely agree with you because basically every single game company does this because they're greedy fucks with no sense of moral integrity or decency, but there are probably a few examples out there that might be considered exceptions in certain views.
Four - Tue, 02 Feb 2021 01:23:22 EST 58VqDRX8 No.759512 Reply
Yeah I agree. I mean, we all did this at some point. I am guilty of buying outfits off FFXIV Shop to try and make my character look the way I want. The difference is that there is still plenty of ways to make your character look the way you want through dungeons and raids, and glamour system tries to support those that are fashionably inclined to enjoy the game they want to. and its fine, you can spend 10 dollars on a outfit that you will enjoy and feel special about for a week to a month. Its a good use of your money.

But csgo is different. It's not just about cosmetics. The only way you can get these skins is through gambling mechanics, which it tries to get you addicted from the get go. It even lets you sell the skin in the market to try and convince yourself that at some point in the future, you will see a real return on your investment. And there was minimum effort was actually put into those skins, it's just a design printed on the gun. The whole thing is just a parasite. It doesn't add anything extra to the game, it's just there to make people gamble their money.

I disagree. I don't believe the average Nintendo or any other platform consumer is familiar with what Emulators are, or is willing to go through the trouble of using one. Piracy was already wide spread and common before Steam showed up, and if it wasn't bundled together with Half Life 2 it would have never taken off. The accessibility of the software makes all the difference, and having those ports on the consoles, easily purchasable in a method they are already familiar with makes all the difference to them.

It's the reason why I don't believe emulators and piracy do significant harm to the market. RetroArch does provide access to multiple emulators on a wide range of consoles and platforms, but it will never take off unless they try to streamline the experience. You might be able to Install the software on the XboX SeX now, but I bet not even 1% of the console owners bothered to have it on even though it will give them access to all those videogames.

It's a stealth/puzzle game with really solid level design. Each mission is like this little groundhog day scenario where each time you die you learn a few more things and eventually become all knowing and can abuse the AI in hilarious ways. Or if you're good at stealth games or just take it slow, you can of course beat the mission first try. It's got some jank and unpolished edges but it's brilliant imo.

Also really fun to dick around in and just go on rampages.

Nariko - Sun, 14 Feb 2021 15:49:50 EST xixcIgJG No.759811 Reply
As someone who's favorite game in the series used to be Blood Money, Nu-Hitman probably takes the crown. I haven't played 3 yet, but played a lot of 1-2.

The Good
>The game play is super smooth.
>Each stage is like a giant clockwork puzzle box, filled with hundreds of fun and unique ways to dispatch targets.
>It's absurdly re-playable, with each hit having dozens of sub-missions and little self-contained challenges.
>It looks gorgeous and runs great on PC in my experience.
>Each game is playable in the engine of the next one, so the amount of content just keeps growing and incorporating small improvements from the previous releases.

>The Bad
>There was a mix of business models they experimented with (first game was episodic, second was not but confusingly carved up a lot of DLC, third game switched storefronts and forces you to re-buy the maps from the first two if you owned on Steam). This is why I'm waiting for the full package to drop on Steam in about a year.
>You have to play online to take full advantage of the unlocks system, or use an offline save with fewer features. The two save systems don't carry over, so it's other one or the other.
>Live service FOMO time-sensitive single-attempt bonus missions (Elusive Contracts) that would be nice to have available to play or re-play at my own pace, but don't really add too much aside from some dinky cosmetics

Overall it's a great game, and all the downsides have less to do with the game rather than shitty business decisions by IOI and WB. If you liked Blood Money, it's a huge redemption story after Absolution, and I highly recommend playing it.

In the latest steam sale I spent less than 3 dollars and got 2 games.

Outside of souls games I just play indies and older games. Like I've probably put more time into Stardew Valley and PS1 games in the last 2 years than all other games combined.

In 2021 I spent a lot especially on the Halo editions of the Xbox Series X and Elite Controller and the Halo Infinite season 1 battle pass. In terms of games, I didn't really buy a lot other than 2 PSP games for $10, 4 Xbox games for $20, and Cyberpunk 2077 for $3.75.

This year so far I bought the Halo 3 edition Xbox 360, though the person I bought it from off Ebay said they got it from a Goodwill but didn't know it was a bricked and previously modded system, so I gotta buy another one to replace it since the store I go to couldn't fix it. Fortunately Other than that, I got another PSP game when I went to MAGFest and stuff from the Halo Infinite shop.
