Which games do you think are the most OVER rated?

Deus Ex was never that good

Mass Effect 2 I didnt even know was supposed to be good. That game was a real steaming pile of shit and proof that you don't need to make good games, only get the combined forces of soulless corporate power with casting couch Hollywood agents.

Anything Bethesda had to do with Fallout

Terraria. What, so you just go left and right? Yeah ok, I've played Sonic and it was boring then. Oh, you can dig? Big fucking deal I played Minecraft and at least in that game you can go FORWARD and BACKWARD.

Anything Blizzard makes is a piece of shit, I still don't get why there are many people still supporting them.
Indie games, about 80% of them are a shitty games that are a waste of time.
Bioshock series, overhyped boring games.
Current Naughty-Dog games, full of cinematic experience and less focus on gameplay.
Ubisoft games, all feel the same.
Aktivision, they only make yearly shitty CoD games
EA, full of shit
GTA Online, fuck it!

Mass Effect and Dragonage. I beat dragonage inquisition and then realised all the character's suck and the story is boring. Mass Effect I couldnt play for more than 3 hours, it just bored the fuck outta me, and I love sci fi

Deus Ex is still better than 80% of games that get released. It's just an awkward AF PC RPG from 2000

Baldur's Gate, and it didn't age well.

It still was really good though. Like i still play it and have fun to this day.

Yeah, I've played it maybe 5 times, never beat it because the endgame is pretty crap, but every time it's been a really enjoyable experience, far more than most games offer. Also got a jammin' OST
Meta Knight - Sun, 23 Feb 2020 16:00:30 EST JFb1Y+00 No.749737 Reply
The endgame is also where all of the interesting shit happens.

False. The sole reason anybody even says good things about the game is because of the frankly common sense narrative about power, corporations, corrupt political conspiracies and so on which in itself isn't revolutionary at all neither for it's time nor for now and is just a rehashing of a lot of internet conspiracy culture from the 90s--in 2000. It managed to look and play worse than even Half Life too, which was way older than it. The level progression is tedious, most of your choices are false ones, the rpg elements both from a narrative and mechanical perspective are both not well implemented as well as being features from far far older games like System Shock and so on. On a fundamental level that game was really just an overrated cash grab. You can see how completely shallow it is when you look at other things done by Eidos later on like Human Revolution, Mankind Divided, and that subpar console game Invisible war none of which added anything new as well and all of which had the exact same Eidos shallowness in both choice, mechanics, and gameplay, it's just it was easier to see it for its shallowness without the nostalgia goggles in HR for example. I mean fuck sake they even somehow managed to take one of the most classic cyberpunk tropes and degenerate it into some bullshit about access to consumer goods, while likewise turning transhumanist themes into the same consumerist bullshit about cutting off your limbs which doesn't even make any sense why you'd do that as if somehow cutting off your own arm to attach a chainsaw makes more sense than carrying one around as a lumberjack.

All HR did was show us nakedly how uninspired their first game was. Was it complete shit? For the time nah. Is it worth playing now? Lol no. It's not even close to actual good games from loosely that era like Planescape, VTMB, KOTOR 2 or whatever. Its aesthetic itself was even late and entirely a relic of the late 90s. I think everything good people think about that game is solely because they have 90s nostalgia which is just about the only thing that game even really delivers on with the sole exception of it kind of being funny to play JC Denton as a dick because of how suboptimal the voice actor was in deadpan but nearly sarcastic delivery about everything. It's a tedious as shit game to play and basically a rehash of System Shock and System Shock 2.

>It managed to look and play worse than even Half Life too

It was a fucking Role-playing game, which to this day look almost universally worse than action shooters. The difference was even more extreme then.

I remember when that gap started to close and one of my friends was absolutely convinced that Company of Heroes was a shooter based on zoomed in screenshots.

Oddly enough I do find HR pretty unplayable though, despite it being my favorite game of that year. Mankind Divided and the original are still very playable to me.

> It's a tedious as shit game to play and basically a rehash of System Shock and System Shock 2.
System Shock 2 is a slightly better game but it's quite a lot more tedious.

True, but apparently I got one mission from the end twice. The plot falls apart and gets convoluted and just isn't that interesting. And then comes the bit at the end, which I have seen the different endings if, enough to feel satisfied that I experienced the whole game

I dont like HR either. MD rips off enough plot points from OG deus ex that I can kind of squint my eyes and pretend I'm playing a more well-written game.

The ending of the original Deus Ex is literally on the same level as the ending of Mass Effect 3, except at least I was generally entertained for ME3 which was a better game on virtually every other metric than ME2. ME2 and Deus Ex GOTY are probably the only two games I have ever played and beaten and deeply regretted having done so. That's probably 50 hours of my life combined that I'm not getting back.

I'm sorry but there's a little bit more to the ending of Deus Ex than the color of an explosion.

Journey. This game is shit and I don't understand how it was so successful. All you do is walk through a fuckin desert for a couple of hours. Only thing it has going for it is that it has a decent art style but even that gets old after 10 minutes.

Out of context its really hard to explain journey. It used to be a fairly new and original idea. Not anymore

I played it back in the day and still didn't like it then. It's just always seemed overrated to me man. I don't get the appeal of it at all.

I fucking hated Deadly Premonition. I like quirky, odd pieces of media, I love Twin Peaks, I like TPS and horror, but they absolutely fucked the controls. It might be the only game I truly regret buying. All they had to do was just copy the RE4 controls, but they managed to screw that up. It's a bit weird to me that the game has a cult following; it was just so grossly flawed and outdated even when it first came out.

>I don't get the appeal of it at all.
It's a beautiful, emotional, carefully made little experience with beautiful visuals and music. It's not for you and that's fine. I love it, lots of people love it, you don't have to love it.

I don't even think there's a single game that I don't understand why people like. Do you really not understand why anybody would enjoy anything about Journey?

Rimworld. Never before have I played a game that dives from interesting to tedium within the first half hour.

Isn't that a "so bad it's good" game? Doesn't seem like something that should be on an overrated list. If you think it's bad, that's because it is. If you like it because it's so bad, that's because it is.

I'm judging it as a video game. From that perspective, no I don't understand why anyone would like such an awful game where the main mechanic is just holding forward to keep walking. I understand some people might like it because it's "art" or whatever, but you could tape a banana to a wall and call that art so that doesn't really mean much.
Dregs - Tue, 25 Feb 2020 22:07:43 EST AaQteG9s No.749804 Reply
It's like people don't understand that you might want some gameplay in your game. Even death stranding has more gameplay, and it's still a walking simulator.

I think we should differentiate between games and interactive movies. Games involve challenges that must be overcome in order to progress. Interactive movies simply require you to make a decision or press a button in order to continue. Here's a half decent litmus test: If an autofire controller can complete the media in question, it is not a game.

God forbid someone defines a video game as push button to do thing.
which btw is what all games boil down to if youre being pedantic
