https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=JC8owhVU0cI

>Activision has announced Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2, a compilation remake of the first two THPS games developed by Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy studio Vicarious Visions, which has a long history with the series.THPS 1 and 2 will be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Game Store on September 4, 2020, with preorders offering fans early access to a demo of the iconic Warehouse level. The game is a remake compiling the first two games in the beloved THPS franchise, including all levels (even the secret ones), and IGN spoke with Vicarious Visions studio head Jen Oneal to learn more about what’s new and returning to THPS 1 and 2

>In addition to gameplay tweaks to make the skateboarding itself more modern, THPS 1 and 2 will mark the return of all the hallmark missions — collecting SKATE letters, secret tapes, etc. — from the original games, while also introducing some new challenges.

>THPS will support competitive online play, but the remake will also feature split screen multiplayer for those who want to play with friends locally.

>“Most of the songs made it into the game. There's only a small handful that we just couldn't get the licensing rights for. It's a pretty full soundtrack and you'll get to hear your favorites, like “Guerrilla Radio” is in there, “Superman,” which is kind of like the anthem of THPS, is in there,” she said.

I'm pretty stoked.

That's pretty awesome they're doing a full remake of the first two games and they got most of the music and online multiplayer. Definitely will be getting this.

>>752444
They're probably do a THPS 3 & 4 compilation next if this does well.

FYI: there's a mod for THUG called THUG Pro. It contains all the THPS maps and has online play with a small but active community.

Also, didn't they already remake 1, 2, and 3? Isn't that what the HD re-release was?

There was some remaster type game that came out like 8 or 9 years ago but I think it wasn't necessarily a remaster of the games, just a collection of certain levels from the old games or some shit like that. I didn't play but I remember hearing they fucked it up real bad somehow so almost everyone hated it.

One of my hopes is that they keep it more bright and cartoonish; the PS3 games being too dark and muddy to see was a major problem for me

The trailer is up there if you want to take a look at it. Personally, I like the realistic look of everything. I'm just worried a little about the lighting. They said they won't change too much about the gameplay so at least it will still be the same game, albeit maybe harder like what they did with N.sane Trilogy.

Yep Robomondo dropped the ball on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD and they messed up the scoring system and didn't fix the gravity issues.

To me, 1 + 2 is more of an upgraded remake of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x, which was an upgraded port of 1 and 2 with five additional levels and other content exclusive to Xbox.

>>752497
It's the same price:

>Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 is priced at $39.99, and a digital deluxe version with “unique content and in-game gear” costs $49.99. A collector's edition will also be available for $99.99, and includes the game's digital deluxe content and a limited-run Birdhouse deck.

Well it's that and four other songs that won't be in the game:

>“B-Boy Document ‘99” by The High & Mighty, featuring Mos Def & Mad Skillz
>“Out With the Old” by Alley Life
>“Cyco Vision” by Suicidal Tendencies
>“Committed” by Unsane

But then again you could just play those songs from Spotify or Amazon Music while you play, at least you can on Xbox One.

I get why they went with the Falcon 2 since that's one of Birdhouse's most iconic decks and was out when 1 originally came out. Would have preferred the Falcon 3 or Full Skull 99 though.

https://culturedvultures.com/tony-hawks-pro-skater-wont-contain-microtransactions-at-launch/

>Vicarious say they want to give players a “complete package” when the game launches in September, with all content unlocked in-game, but that depending on the success and demand for it after the game launches, Vicarious will consider releasing additional DLC for money.

looks like we're gonna get the complete package, and maybe additional DLC if things work out. CTR was pretty much the same and I think it was handled well so I'm hoping they'll keep it up.

You do realize the only reason why Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 was awful because the licensing deal between Tony Hawk and Activision was set to expire at the end of 2015 and the game had a rushed development of only a few months and was then released unfinished and could only be played with a day one patch right?

Not to mention Robomodo isn't involved anymore and that Vicarious Visions, which has had past experience developing the Tony Hawk games on Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS, is now developing 1 + 2.

It took the Tony Hawk style controls and instead od going through the levels doing a checklist of chores one run at a time they wanted you to hit all the shit on the checklist in one run. It was a whole hell of a lot harder.

This is a Tony Hawk Burrito. Chipotle is a fast casual Mexican chain and it's similar to Subway where you can customize your own burrito/burrito bowl/tacos/salad/etc in an assembly line format. It's one of the most popular fast food/casual restaurants in the US but it's a good marketing move especially in an era of creating hype for an upcoming product while also driving sales for the restaurant. Shake Shack did something similar with Game of Thrones' final season with a limited edition burger, fries, and shake.

>Anything that provides exclusive in game shit that you can only get by buying other shit always feels scummy to me

Agreed but it depends on how you look at it but there's plenty of people that would want it. Burger King had done it with great success although PocketBike Racer, Big Bumpin, and Sneak King were all complete games that you could buy separately without having to buy their food.

I pre-ordered the game this past week but I didn't get a code for the demo (I guess that's only for digital pre-orders or something) but when saw they were doing this promotion, I went for it cause I like Chipotle and the THPS series but this isn't anything new in gaming. One example I can remember is buying Crackdown when it came out just to play the Halo 3 multiplayer beta.

>Officer Dick is making a come back as Jack Black in the new TonyHawk Pro Skater remake

>Officer Dick was a character that appeared in the first four entries in the series, who represented the lifelong rivalry between police officers/security guards and skateboarders. It's a gag character, for sure, but one that was always beloved by fans of the series.

Still hasn't been confirmed that he'll be a plsyable charactee but its more than likely that he will.

>As seen on circlejerk, an image of Jack Black's likeness has been discovered in the backend of the THPS 1 + 2 Warehouse demo, dressed in officer's uniform with a skateboard in hand.

Because it needs confirmation. Im not going to be jumping to any conclusion until someone comes out and confirms it or I see him skateboarding in the warehouse.

Because it was and still is an Icon of gaming. Incredibly nostalgic experience, you were probably too young to remember, but skateboarding was a big thing back in the 90s, and with everyone owning a playstation, everyone and their friend owned a copy of the game. People are excited to relieve this experience. There are definitely better skateboarding games out there, but that's not what its all about.

Thought this was an interesting story about renaming the Mute to the Weddle:

>The updated versions of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 will change the name of the "mute grab," in honor of its creator, Chris Weddle, per Hawk. Weddle, who is deaf, invented the trick in 1981, and the move was subsequently named to reflect his "quiet" demeanor, per Hawk. Now nearly four decades later, a more appropriate name has been chosen for the video game's latest release.

>"For nearly 40 years, we’ve shamelessly referred to this trick as the 'mute' air/grab," Hawk wrote on Instagram on Wednesday. "In recent years a few people have reached out to Chris (who still skates) about this trick and the name it was given. He has been very gracious in his response but it is obvious that a different name would have honored his legacy, as he is hearing impaired but not lacking speech."

>Hawk wrote that he spoke to Weddle last year. Weddle reportedly said he would rather name the trick the "deaf" or "Weddle" grab, noting “I am deaf, not mute," per Hawk. After chatting with Weddle, Hawk's decision became clear. The move will now be henceforth known as the 'Weddle Grab.'

>>755370
Yeah the 1 + 2 is its own way a tribute to the original demo that had become iconic and helped to create the hype for the first game that made it so successful. Here's a good read that talks about the demo - https://www.escapistmagazine.com/v2/tony-hawks-pro-skater-demo-disc-pizza-hut/

Its a pointless change, since theres nothing wrong with calling a trick mute air in honour of someone with a related if somewhat opposite condition. Its a hilarious mistake and a cool name, which traditionally is the most important factor in trick naming. Its objectively much cooler than Weddle grab (deaf grab is also cool tho), so its a change slghtly for the worse in that respect.
Unless the goal here is to get mr Weddle instagram fame and pussy while giving Atcivision and Tony Hawk some good PR, and not so much preserving games and skating history, and basic aesthetics and stuff, then I guess its a great idea.

Maybe, but have you spoken to an 18 year old skater recently? My experience with them has been they are pretty woke, tbh the irrelevance of the game itself to that market might be the only reason it continues, but skaters are pretty cool, I don't think you're gonna experience a hard push against this or anything.

We dont have any time for that because there are so many varieties of people with black skin that its basically meaningless. Africa isn't some far destined land, its right next door and its fucking huge. Refering to them all as black people is hella dumb.

Well, thats cool, but pretty weird.
Its not like where Im from we dont call people by their names, but its no biggie to say "that black/white dude" if youre trying to nail down an individual in a conversation, and it shouldnt be.
I dont know the full context of redskins, Im just saying that its a pretty fucking cool sounding name for a team, and in a perfect world could be perfectly inoffensive. I still bet its mostly ninnies that object to it and cool indians are either proud to be red or dont even think about skin colour.

Choosing to get offended instead of going with the fact that basically nobody that says a name of that team is doing it in a racist way, is what gives the word more power. A word can evolve and lose its insulting connotation if we let it, but its like theyre protecting the sacred slurs from ever being reclamed and normalized.

Id much rather the enlightened future where we can say Washington Chinks, New York Homos or Miami Spics and nobody even blinks an eye, than a future where like 30% of cool grab names are banned cause they offended somebody.

Whether black is a racist term is complicated. The whole "where are you from" thing is another kettle of fish. It's often applied to people born here who are fully of this culture and speak the local tongue as well as the person asking (often better because they're not a fuckwit), but yet they're still from somewhere else.

Australia is racist as fuck though. Just when it comes to people trying to immigrate there now, or people whose families immigrated more than a few hundred years ago.

Maybe do some research about indigenous people before you start spouting this racist bullshit. >the game also has a Create-A-Skater mode that, while a bit limited in its customisation options, lets players create their own in-game avatar complete with plenty of branded gear.
>There’s also a Create-A-Park mode which is also pretty exhaustive, although I’ve got a bit of a gripe with them locking a number of the cooler pieces behind the in-game currency in the Skateshop.

>One particular touch I adore is the teams’ decision to recreate all of the game’s original skaters at their present-day age, wrinkles and all. I’d find it absurd that Tony Hawk can still twist out a 900 at his age, but the fact that the great man did one for the last time at 48 probably suggests it’s not out of the question.

Vicarious Visions seem to have delivered a solid game. The heavy monetization is a little disappointing and it would've fine if it was merely cosmetics but it looks like some of the pieces are locked behind a paywall.

It's $40 and runs well as far as I can tell. I suck ass at this game.
