Where do you guys get your fix on news for games?

I don't flip through gaming sites too often, maybe twice a week or so. I've been getting particularly irritated by the flood of advertisement farming that I have to sift through to find anything that's actually news about new games coming out.

I don't need to know the top ten closet homo protagonists or what some streamer got banned for this week. I just want a reliable flow of "these games are coming out soon and here's some interviews with the creators."

It makes me miss magazines, because the writers had a week or more to prepare decent content, and since you paid for it there wasn't a forced ad about hip wallets or insurance every 2 paragraphs.

Suggestions much appreciated!

>Eurogamer: No BS news with a good tech desk.
>GamesIndustry and Gamasutra: Developer and business-centric gaming news sites.
>Rock Paper Shotgun and PCGamer: PC-specific coverage of new games and hardware.
Destructoid: Mostly shit since Jim Sterling left, but still updated frequently.
>N4G: Fast moving news aggregator with the dumbest fucking underage alt-right console peasant commenters on the planet, which I find amusing.

I read Kotaku and IGN sometimes too but they went downhill a long time ago.

Kotaku is exactly the kind of site I'm avoiding now. I started going there back in like 2008, and it somehow gets even worse every year. I feel like I'm looking at a game themed tabloid that hired ex-writers from the National Enquirer in YouTube view farm sweatshops. The Sunday comics are cool, and the Photoshop contests too.

Cancer:
Kotaku
Polygon
RPS
ResetEra
Gamespot
Escapist (except Yahtzee)

Pre-cancerous growth:
Exclusively Games (of thequartering infamy)
Eurogamer
Bloomberg (historically a joke, worth watching now)
Vice (basically defunct)

Bests:
Yahtzee
Co-optional (defunct, sadly)
Jim Sterling (see his podcast also)
AJS News
Upper Echelon Gamers

Basically all the decent shit comes form Youtube/podcasts now because the written pressers are ethically compromised. The important will have some form of transcription if you simply must read. Even Yahtzee's old 'Let's Drown Out' show is fully transcribed.

Well to be fair, since G/O Media took over the former GMG sites, that herb Jim Spanfeller has basically run them into the ground so much so that everyone working at Deadspin resigned and now it's a zombie version of itself. I agree Kotaku has those tabloid elements but you can't discount the very good investigative pieces they've done.

I guess you could check out Giant Bomb then.

I remember listening to this guy rally people behind hating UFC3 because "YOU HAVE TO USE LOOTCRATES TO PLAY IT" and he threw this giant righteous fit with pure hatred in his voice. Except I played that game religiously and was one of the top ranked played in the world, and literally never even saw a loot crate.

Because there's an entire separate league for that game type, and you're never forced to play it. And I know plenty of people who played that game mode and never once paid for a crate. The guy is clearly pretty smart and makes some good points but I was basically listening to a grown man yell about video games, and he was lying about it to boot. Just to fire up his angry listeners. Idk...I hate loot crates too but do you need to report on games you haven't even played? Turned me off from wanting to listen to his rants

same shit with Assassin Creed Odyssey. He wouldn't stop frothing about the fact that you get to buy XP boost to speed up your progress and the game is almost unplayable without it. Except That wasn't true. It was no different than games like Witcher 3 which needed you to be at a certain level to continue the story and you got to that level by doing side quests. The XP boost option was there just for people who wanted to be done with the game as quickly as possible or just wanted to be Over powered. It wasn't all that expensive anyways.
But He sure made s big deal of it though, and almost convinced me not to play the game for myself. Three hours into the game I was doing just fine getting through the main quest, and I knew the fat fuck was lying and I hated him ever since.

Unironically /v/. I hate the bullshit ads and articles most game websites have, so I just do a quick scroll through the catalog like I would a morning newspaper and if anything happened that day it'd have a thread on it. I don't have any social media or use YouTube/Twitch so the only news I'd receive would be stuff I actively click on. I do still watch Zero Punctuation weekly, but that's mostly entertainment. I also go on GameFAQs sometimes for whatever game I'm currently gaming, but that's mostly just to learn more about the game I'm playing.

I'm not saying I go there for discussion, just to see what's happening. By doing a 2 minute look through the OPs I can see Cthulhu got announced for Smite and S3 of Power Rangers BftG. Now if I care enough about those games (I don't) I can go to their site for more information, but I don't need to listen to some dickhead journalists opinions on it.

I do like what OP said about magazines though. I was going through one my houses I haven't been to in ages and found a bunch of old HYPER magazines and was flicking through those. They'd do reviews monthly of the games, maybe have a couple of interviews, and then the random articles, and they still hold up. They used

One thing I liked about the reviews is that they would try to be objective (I didn't find this great but I also don't like so and so, so if you liked that you would enjoy it), as well as they would have certain people review certain games because they'd be in a genre they would like. Yahtzee actually used to write for them as well.

It sucks now though, they switched to releasing a magazine every 4 months about 5 years ago because of costs, and I think a lot of people assumed it died after that since it was no longer in news stands. I'm not even sure if it was still going anymore.

I get what you're saying. It's a good source if you skim right through the OPs to see what's up, but discussing anything there is an exercise in futility. They are so quick and are usually all over something once its announced, but the place is extremely toxic due to /pol/ constantly raiding the place.

I still dont think you need to go there to get the info as fast as them. I follow a bunch of Twitter account that always notify me when some thing good comes up, and I rely on Google Alert for anything that specifically interests me.

If they were actually partnered with Nintendo and doing a Vote For Biden event or something you might have a point but this is some serious tone-deaf pearl-clutching. Also Animal Crossing's popularity has been largely fueled by young adults.

It's simple. One has a disk drive the other doesnt. All other stuff wont mean much to them. Its easy to explain.

I still dont think its a real good idea. A lot of countries out there are still not used to the idea of subs and no physical copies. Sony will be doing the same thing so they're pretty much forcing the market on this path but its not like everyone has good access to the internet. Heck the US still has a data cap. Its sad.

At least they'll both play new games, just one will play them at 30FPS minimum 1080p and one will play 4K and/or60 FPS [%}I now the targets but lets be honest with how they'll be working in 4 years[/%] I don't feel sorry for anyone whose parents could afford the expensive one and have a 4K Screen but "only" get the cheap one though really. And no one is going to accidentally pay another $200 without asking a lot of questions. Also don't feel sorry for anyone whose parents are too stupid and lazy to lay down $500 without thinking about what they're buying hard enough to realise they don't have a 4K screen anyway.

The Cheap one is probably a loss leader to get people into their ecosystem. Interesting really because it means all 3 console makers have taken very different paths when the last couple of gens MS and Sony were basically trying to do the same thing better than each other.

This will be a huge boot up the arse of nintendo though. It's cheaper than a switch and will be more available, the controllers won't be both expensive and shite as well. Nintendo should be sweating at least as much as Sony right now.

You underestimate the ignorance of the average consumer. And Nintendo is untouchable. Xbox doesnt nearly have as many console movers as the Nintendo. That is precisely why they lost the previous 2 generations.

Actually you're right about people. I think I thought I'd put a disclaimer in that someone will do it but I didn't. I don't think it'll be a lot of people, but if you're that disengaged that you accidentally overpay $200 then what the fuck is wrong with you? If you can piss that way I guess you can buy your kid a 4K tv next week.

I don't agree about nintendo entirely. The switch controller is garbage and costs a fuck tonne to replace and the switch lite is worse because that console WILL break after a few years. If people come straight out of being burned by that they risk market share. I don't think they're in danger yet. It would take a couple of really bad consoles in a row, rather than one flawed one, to put them on the ropes but this does put pressure on them. They suddenly have a new rival in their price bracket and it has a LOT more horsepower and I bet the controllers aren't £60 even after a battery charger and 4 sets of rechargables.

Also Nintendo lost the last generation badly. Microsoft conceded an early advantage to Sony but the Wii who? This is a power move on the part of microsoft and I love it.

I'm thrilled about this. I don't want to see anyone actually go under but some actual aggressive competition not oligopoly where everyone either follows each other or ignores them and no in between. It will knock on to the PC market too which I'm most excited about. I'm building a PC for my other half next year I expect and if you can buy a console which plays new games at 1440 and reasonable FPS for less money than a graphics card that does, that's going to exert downwards pressure on the market.

I admit, there is plenty of nostalgia hype for fans of the series. The fact that you couldnt play it anymore played a part in it.
I really do enjoy the gameplay, there are probably better beatém ups out there but this one, I just happen to really get into it. I think it's the artstyle and the music. Anamanaguchi did a good job and the pixel art really appealed to us. It was also very loyal to it's source Material which is a really nice touch, especially how the ending played out.

Great news. There's no fucking reason for a story to be so long, even though I loved Witcher 3. I've gotten to the age now where I just want to finish a story in a reasonable amount of time, because I don't have enough of it nowadays. The biggest problem with a lot of RPG's (Mind you, RPG's are my favorite genre) is how unnecessarily long they are. They get padded out with filler because retards conflate time spent with quality.

Yeah though the Witcher 3 had both. The story wasn't super long, it was loaded with side quests as well though, but they were all good. They actually stood out as mini stories. The dwarves who met a grim fate, the woman murdered by a jealous lover, the alcholic vampire. I don't think any game I've played has had "too long" a story. Some have had too much side quest filler though.

and when I say that, I mean, I unfairly compare every other game to how well those two did it.

While I do agree the Witcher 3 had a lot of sidequests that weren't really spectacular, at times even worsen the game experience. It would've been better if the game had the option to do the side quests, but didnt play such a huge part in leveling your character.

In my attempt to platinum the game, I had to go through it and do all the side quests in my first run, then had to do them another time on Death March difficulty. The experience in total took me around 300 hours, but more time was spent playing the DLC which if I remember correctly also took me around 30 hours each.

I dont really imagine any average console player is ready to waste that kind of time on the game so it makes sense that they would try to shorten it eapecially since it felt, to me at least, that there was a lot of padding.

I remember before Blood and Wine was released, the were bragging about how long the DLC would take for us to get through it. I never fully finished all the quests for blood and wine, by that time I already spent close to 350 hours playing the game so I was ready to just put it behind me, but it still took me a long time to play through it.

I think the real issue here is that Witcher 3 leveling system isnt based on how many monsters you kill but rather the quests you do, and I imagine Cyberpunk will be the same. Its a good idea to shorten the game if it means we get better quests and faster, more action oriented leveling. Im not all that surprised , I kinda expected it. But st this point im tired of all the news they keep spewing out, and just want to play the game and judge it for myself.

Funny thing, I probably have thousands of hours wasted on Elder Scrolls franchise, but every now and then I feel the need to go back and play it. Not the same Witcher 3. Il never touch it again. Im so fucking done with Geralt.

>Nu-Rockstar Games

After playing RDR2, I refuse to play another Rockstar game unless they go decide to scale down on their railroaded, cinematic style of gameplay.

Nakey Jakey did a really good on their outdated game design a while ago. It's worth watching if you have the time.

They might as well just swap to a white background with matrix lines and say "Desynchronized".

Love it or hate it, its the popular thing right now. Console peasants prefer the short cinematic experience over anything else and that's where the money is. Its neither bad, nor is it outdated. Its exactly what the majority of Playstation fans are looking to play in between their FIFA Binges.

He's not complaining that the game is cinematic, he's complaining that the game is designed like shit with invisible insta-lose barriers everywhere on missions.

Yeah Rockstar has a bad habit of trying to prevent metagaming now. I miss the days of preparing for a mission in say San Andreas by getting a good car or tank or something ready first.
GTA at least lets you metagame quite a bit.

Nah, it's outdated. I'm not gonna argue whether it's good or bad, but it's outdated There's no reason why a sandbox game should have such limitations on how you play. If GTA 6 is anything like RDR2, I'll pass on it. Yes, I'm aware it'll sell like crazy regardless.

Left 4 Dead 2 just got a pretty big update. It's also free to play, which is good for me because I somehow managed to never buy it.

Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, and Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance are out on gog. Seems like Konami didnt lut too much effort on fixing some the glotches that plagued that 2000 releease. Still, the the Original copy is rare and difficult to work so this is a welcome edition to my collection.

Well, I like Zelda games and this one is a pretty big jump from the usual we get. Not really sure how Zelda fans feel knowing all the Zelda games coming in the future will be in the same engine and mostly play the same way as botw. It even got the same animations and models. Yuck

Man, I cant believe [Name redacted] had to deal with someone like you all this time. Talking to him and reading his posts, he seems like a nice guy so I was wondering whats up.
Guess all those rumors about him are untrue seeing how you're pulling the same shit with me. Every imageboard has its schizos I suppose
