Should I buy only indie games from now on or are there AAA publisher/devs that need and deserve my money?

This. CDP is the only dev off the top of my head that really treats the fans with respect. I'm sure there's more, but they're the prime example.

The consumer is treated well by cdpr, but they make their workers crunch like every other AAA dev. So buying games from them (like buying from other AAA devs) is kind of like buying clothes from better paying chinese sweatshops, so the question still remains: do they deserve the money?

I've been playing Inside and So Many Me as of late.

I mean with CDPR, the workers' wages are lower since they're in Poland. Crunch is an inevitability in the industry, just look at Rockstar Games and the crunch that happened with Red Dead Redemption 2.

No it isn't, and this is one of the worst lies that the AAA games industry has ever tried to normalize. Crunch is the result of bad management. Full stop.

Exactly, which is why I said it was an inevitability because they've made it a normal thing when it shouldn't be.

It doesn't have to be inevitable just because the industry has normalized it though. Developers could (and should) band together, unionize, and strike for reasonable hours and working conditions.

I'm mostly just buying retro games from local shops now.
Grasshopper Manufacture is one I'll give my money to when No More Heroes 3 comes out, their games have a vision and personality that has never let me down. They might be a little too immature and edgy at times for some peoples tastes though.

I basically play 3 games.

A marvel cell phone game my brother plays, it's the only thing we can talk about with out getting into an argument.

Indie games, especially experimental or narrative based that are considered political and not real games by idiots.

The Dark Soul series.

So yeah, only buy indie games until another dark souls game comes out.

I feel this.

There's lots of devs in between obscure indie and bloated mass market only AAA that do good shit with polish though. Currently playing the fuck out of monster hunter world which is definitely AAA but it's good. Not perfect in a lot of ways but largely it's a well crafted fun and satisfying game and their DLC model is
>pay for expansion pack
>pay for some really dumb cosmetics
>don't pay for additional monsters and quests added after the main game and expansion releases
>don't pay for events
>some cosmetics and high res pack are free

I mean people who've played the series before this would feel hard done by if they'd been expected to pay for deviljho but otherwise I think they're pretty decent about it.

disclaimer: I got the game and expansion free with my graphics card. Had been considering buying it for a while though.

Sorry, but I'm gonna steal the game. I mean, it's called Cyberpunk, I'm obviously gonna steal the damn thing. Buying it just wouldn't feel right.

If it's good buy it. It's the only language they understand.

Piracy increases sales of games, so seeding will help. But that depends on people remaining honest and buying games which are worth the money.

TBH, my expectations are pretty low. The game changed a lot from its announcement. I don't like their choice in music. I don't like the fact that it's an fps. And I definitely don't like the fact that you can only role play a single class. You cant be a cop, do a purist no cybernetics run, or just fucking about in the world. You're always an assassin built to kill. Eh.
Maybe I'm wrong and its gonna be a really good game and I just don't know it yet, who knows. But il definitely try it before purchasing it, fam.

Yeah, I think people who'd be cynical without piracy and not buy sometimes find a game better than expected on pirating and buy it. Presumably this is what the paper that was quietly snuck out by the EU on piracy points at. I mean I read it but it's not clear why, just that piracy does seem to mean more video games sales and less films and about the same for music.

If you like the game and don't pay, and that's a thing you do often you forfeit the right to bitch. If it's okay get it on sale in a few years I guess? I dunno on that one. It's your economic decision to decide what price point it's worth it.
