I haven't played sports games since ps1/ps2 era when I was younger. They were a lot of fun, and started craving that again now.

Looking at all the 2020 games released they look like mostly trash, espeically NBA 2k20.

Can someone recommend some of their standouts from years past? Currently going to suss out NBA 2k14. I'm not fussed about having updated rosters or anything, more interested in fun gameplay or game modes - in particular the career modes.

MLB The Show 20 is pretty good as far as baseball games go. No real qualms with that, and it's Road to the Show mode is a good career mode. If you want to baseball, this is the way to go.

Avoid all recent Maddens. They're really bad. If you want to play NFL, emulate NFL2k5. Its presentation and gameplay blows anything recent Madden does. No career mode, but the franchise mode is super in depth.

NCAA Football 14 is a damn good game, but good luck finding it on the cheap. It's the last NCAA game for a while and who knows when we'll get a new one.

NBA games, the last one I enjoyed was NBA 2k11 on the PS3. I can't speak of the new NBA games, except they're micro-transaction ridden messes, and the story mode grind is real in a not fun way, in a SPEND-MONEY-TO-GET-BETTER way.

Wow, Madden 2006 was what I played on PS2 and the franchise mode was great in that. Might go with that for some nostalgia.

Its disappointing in a way, I was kinda hoping the games had made some great strides in the 10+ years but all we got is microtransactions.

And thanks for the MLB suggestion, I will check out more about it.

For football go with PES, any after 2014 feels modern enough, but they do make it a little more refined every year

Yeah, the Show is the best Sim baseball game on the market right now, but its on on PS4. Its RTTS (Road to the Show) is basically going from the Minors to the Majors, while the behind the scenes stuff is pretty barebones, it does good to feel you actually progressing your guy from being a scrub drafted out of college to MLB stud
