Nice. Ion Fury is a solid game. I think you'll enjoy it a lot if you love Blood.
I think it comes down to him loving the game even if he's still struggling with them. The videos he made of capstone games are my least favorite.

Sounds like you just didn't like it. Which is fine, just say so, but don't call it something it's not. I bet you just didn't like the Final boss, it's ok I didn't either. The game has s lot going for it, but with lacking enemy variety and traditional bosses, I can see how someone might feel like its weaker than other build engine games. yeah I'm mad Shelly is so different to her 90s concept design and how we didn't get to see her Arm get blown off but still it's a Solid game

I liked it but it was basically hitscan hell. Bad to some; Art to others.

I felt like I was pinned down behind cover most of the time trying to get quick headshots instead of jumping around and dodging projectiles

It was unforgiving and beyond frustrating and I could see someone absolutely hating it, but that just made me wanna complete it even more.

Also I found the levels beautiful and it boasts some of the best visuals I've seen in a build engine game.

speaking of projectiles i've been playing Project Warlock all day which is in the same vein and its fucking great, I think all the enemies i've encountered so far were either melee or projectile. Theres even an option to lock the Y axis

I'm pretty sure none of the enemies are actually hitscans. Each foe shoots a projectile, albeit very fast projectile, but you can still avoid it if you're quick enough.

You're not taking full advantage of the how quick you are in the game. That's how it was meant to played, its the reason why they didn't implement any hit-scan enemies in the game and went as far as painstakingly make them that way. Not even Loverboy is hitscan, and its funny cuz you can actually hitscan for enemies heads with it and shoot them when you're cornered.

You learn how to play the game properly on Maximum Fury. Peaking through corners and trying to predict the movement of your enemies is only going to get you killed. Run, Jump, Crouch and shoot to survive. Play it the way a Speed Runner would play it. That was the only way I could finish the game on Maximum Fury.

Hitscan hell was Blood in my opinion. I don't believe the game can be finished on its its hardest Difficulty. The cultist will zero in on you in a split second, and you can never escape it. I wont even try. I guess its doable if you savescum and throw dynamite at every corner, but that's just boring.

I tried playing today. It got pretty repetitive after a while. There isn't really much variety when it comes to enemies, and you get pretty overpowered by Episode 3. I only got to Episode 3 Boss before I got bored. I could feel my brain shutting off by how repetitive it got. There is a lot I like about it. The sound effects, the music, and the visuals are all good. But the gameplay is pretty boring.

The trick to beating Blood is to master bouncing TNT bundles off walls or throwing them over barriers, basically just getting really creative trying to kill clusters of cultists before they even see you. Hoarding secrets, trial-and-error, and expert, careful use of ammunition/explosives is an absolute must.

I managed to complete the first 3 episodes on the hardest difficulty doing this but...yeah...easily the hardest FPS I have ever played, and Ion Fury came close to claiming that title in my mind.

As for a no-death speedrun attempt? Good luck with that. Alot of it is pure luck anyway; some sections feel utterly impossible until the Cultists accidentally kill themselves or eachother from a TNT mishap.

God...we must be actual masochists to love these games.

God, that sounds extremely tedious and painful to go through. It makes me almost want to try and do it. My issue is that I don't like to save scum. It just doesn't feel right you know, you gotta pay for your mistakes. I like to restart from the beginning of the level and redo it again, learn from my mistakes, get better. With Blood, I just don't see that working out. There is a good amount of luck in there, and you lose focus after a while if all you do is deal with hitscans. Maybe I should break this one rule just for this game.

Yeah I don't see that happening. There are some amazing players out there though. A dedicated player with a good amount of luck might pull it off someday.

Oh yeah, that's a given. Personally, I like the games where I get blown to bits or hear the protagonist scream before they die. Its the reason Why my favorite of the Build games is both Blood and Ion Maiden. With Caleb, his death scream is iconic. I just think of it and I can hear it in my head, Stephan Weyte is an genius.
Samething with Ion Maiden. I was seriously worried they will shy away from it due to her being a woman but nah man, when she gets torched or blown to bits, she dies well. Even her avatar thingy changes depending on how you died. Died by a Nailgun? You're missing a chunk of your head. Death by explosion? Her head isn't even there. Its awesome. There is joy, even in death with these games. Ehh with Duke and Wang, not so much. They're just a joke you know, don't appeal to me all that much.

I finished it. I had it installed and I ran through half of it so I decided what the hell.
I'm not impressed, man. Game falls apart after you go to hell. Extremely repetitive. Final Boss was generic strafe in circles while emptying your ammo reserves. Great looking game, mediocre soundtrack, repetitive Gameplay. Really felt like an unfinished project, some kind of early access with no clear vision. Some Wolfenstein boomer might like this stuff cause it plays like it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone below the age of 40.

This is wrong. The brown robed cultists and the shotgun cyborgs are hitscans, but if you duck behind cover fast enough they will shoot the wall instead of you, and they have a chance of missing if you're moving fast enough. But there are no projectiles to dodge. It's a very well done game, because it takes things that would normally be complaints about this style of FPS and turns them on their side just enough so you're not mad about it. Like the fact that they're hitscanners is okay because it's also somewhat fair due to the fact that they still take time aiming.

I completely forgot about the shotgunners. They take so much time aiming at me and I'm usually moving so fast they never get a chance to hit me. They also don't move all that much so they're easy to headshot.
Are you talking about the brown robed cultists in Blood because they're not the only hit scanners in the game. You also get the black robed ones with they're machineguns.

those cyborg cultists aren't hitscanners. They actually shoot a projectiles, about four or five of them. If you side step just before you get shoot, you can see them. If you're constantly trying to dodge their shots, it's like you're dodging bullets. Enemies like the chain gunner in Doom or the cultists in Blood are actual hitscanners, maybe sometimes they miss but their shots aren't projectiles.
