Haven't picked it up yet, but the port is apparently barebones, but perfectly serviceable. Kind of hoping this is a sales test for P5 on PC, or that Switch ports for both are also in the pipeline.

Barebones how? All the 2D art is upconverted to 1080p (from 340p or whatever the PS2/PSP is). It has this Dark Souls-wannabeesque internet support system which uh, not really sure if that is working right but I think it is unique to this version. Other shit like a tag cloud, I think that's brand new too. Steam achives, Steam trading cards and all higher level items that go with it.

I don't think you know what a barebones port is. Have you ever bought product from Square Enix? Now they churn out some shitty ports. This is an A+ effort for being unceremoniously dumped on Steam with no press.

Because this is a slow moving board lol. Persona 4 was my least favorite. I prefer 3 or 5.

Judging from the screenshots, it doesn't look all that great. I still think the best way to play the game is on the Vita model with the OLED screen. Not only P4G mind you, every game looks better on that screen.

I doubt it but it would be great if we get to see Royal on the PC then I won't have to cough up s premium just to experience the complete version of the game.

Should have re-released P3FES instead.

Marie isn't bad, she's just misunderstood.

That game never got its remaster to the Vita so it will look even more jarring o the PC. I'm shocked by how little effort they put into this release. The Vita Undubbed version is still best way to experience it. For one, You don't have to deal with Erin Fitzgerald's god awful shrieking voice.

And by far I haven't had any problem with it.

Huh. Good on them. Maybe il give it a shot at some point just to see the changes they made.
I still think the Undubbed version is better due to having a better Voice Actors. This isn't always the case with Persona games, I think most of them have great voice acting. Erin just did an awful job with Chie. Her Japanese voice is endearing, it switches between tomboyish to girlie when shes scared or about to express her feelings. Erin is the only one who did a bad job, but Chie is prominent in most of the story scenes in the game and probably has the most dialogue to the point of ruining the experience for me. Even after changing her Voice Actress for golden, I still think the PS2 voice Actress did a better job than Erin.

I didnt care for Chies voice in Golden. It wasnt bad, I just liked the ps2 voice better. Apparently alot of people hated Chies voice on the ps2, i dont know why. Teddies voice in Golden was.annoying as fuck though. I hope now that P4G is on steam, they'll put it on ps4 as well.

I prefer the original EN Chie to the new one, so that's a minor gripe I have with it.

Its a superb rpg. I understand that the highschool aspect isnt for everyone, but if you like jrpgs at all, I highly reccomend the Persona series. Great writing, characters, and combat.

Or instead you could play the superior SMT series, you can even emulate them for free right now so there's no reason not to.

I got no hate for Persona, but this is one of the best JRPG's I've played. Atlas needs to show this game some love and port it to PC or current gen.

By the way, I'm still waiting on SMT5 lol.

I’ve not completed any of the games, but I never saw this “great writing” people talk about. I’d say I made it 30 hours into persona 5, maybe 8 hours into persona 4, and I could barely stomach 3 hours of Persona 3.

The characters feel simplistic, their friendships felt cheap and unearned. Characters confessing their admiration or loyalty for the main character way too early, stuff like that. Dialogue that spells everything out multiple times in a row with no subtlety or human qualities. It’s incredibly hammy.

Maybe it’s a translation thing but it felt like it was written by someone who doesn’t understand real human beings. The game is actually pretty interesting how it mixes this daily life simulator with a dungeon crawler jrpg though, brilliant idea.

Ive played both series. And digital devil saga. Out of all of them Nocturne has the best atmosphere. But I still love the persona series as well, hell I love all of them. I still hope that one day Atlus will port SMT 1 and 2 to ps4 or android.

I guess by jrpg standards the Persona series has great writing. Have you ever played the Tales of or Star Ocean series? I love the gameplay, but the story and writing for some of the games......is just bad.

Its a turned based rpg. Not much to talk about gameplay wise if you're familiar with Persona or the SMT series. SMT is generally harder though, and theres a semi world map you can explore, SMT and DDS also have random encounters. SMT also has you persuading demons while in DDS you and your party are demons.

Yes, compared to Tales of games, persona is certainly more interesting. I just hold very few games in the category of "great writing". Something like Disco Elysium or Planescape come to mind. I'm actually jealous that people enjoy the persona games, because they are right up my alley until I'm expected to be interested in a group of characters who seem very one dimensional to me.

Take the relationship you have with Kim Kitsuragi in Disco, it felt natural and earned. He wasn't thrust in my face as this guy who was supposed to be my friend, who would like me no matter what because the plot demanded it. I genuinely grinned when he had my back as the story unfolded and we grew on each other. And the cops at the station who ridiculed you, it actually felt like you were a piece of shit who let them down, who deserved to be mocked, they weren't the background noise of judgemental husks, or irredeemable villains who dislike you in something like Persona. Does any of this make sense?

I might get around to retrying P4 now that it's on steam. Someone sell me on it please

Cant really sell p4 on you if you dont find the characters or story interesting. Ive never played Planesape or Disco Elysium so I cant comment. I found the side characters very interesting, like Shu this kid you tutor, or the old lady wearing funeral garb.

Well, if you played original P4 on PS2 or the P4G on PSvita then you might already know what kind of game it is.
The PC version is good, it's smooth and have a nice optimization sso that you can run it even on a old PC without any problem, there's also an option to change the language between English and Japanese.
You can also change the enemy difficulty to make them as hard as you can, basically the PC version is currently the Ultimate version of Persona 4, and those who never played Persona 4 Gold because they didn't had a Vita is a nice chance to try the game.

There's a pretty simple way to decide on whether you should play Persona or not. Are you a weeb that enjoys jrpgs? If yes, get the game. If you aren't, then avoid the game.

If you don't like anime shit or jrpg shit, then this game isn't gonna change your mind on any of that.

I mean you clearly lean more CRPG which is fine, so do I. As far as JRPGs there are very few that raise up to this level. While I still think P3 had a better story these games are on the same tier as Skies of Arcadia or Lunar. You either hate this type of thing or love it. This is a 'best in class' example so if you hate it you probably just hate JRPG conceits in general.

I had never heard of Persona 13 years ago, saw P3 on the shelf soon after release and bought it because it had the best cover art I'd ever seen from a vidya game. You just 'know' if you like this type of game or not.
