Personally don’t know what all the fuss is about regarding this game, but if it ends up being good I’ll still probably wait to play it because I personally have literally zero interest in it. Biggest red flag for me was not seeing any dismemberment when cutting into dudes at such wild angles. Maybe I’m wrong about that now but if you give me a big sword and I can’t absolutely fuck someone’s body geometry up, I’m out. I hate to be one of these fucking people but it looks like Red Dead with swords. Hope it’s good tho.

I can't stand any more open world games. There's always so much padding. Can't remember which was the last open world game I played that felt like an actual adventure full of wonder as opposed to doing the thing in order to do the thing in order to do the thing in order to do the thing

it almost feel like companies like Ubisoft are hellbent on killing the genre all together. I think they will pretty much run their course by this year or the next. God of War was the last AAA game I played the got side quests right. I'm glad this game gets it. Each side quests is unique, has interesting stories, and doesn't pad the game with repetitive kill and fetch quests.

Other than that, the combat is fun, and it's a beautiful looking game. Photo mode is great in this.

Agreed, already played a few hours of this and it's damn good. I don't think it does anything mind blowing, but it does just about everything I've see so far really well. I haven't seen any filler yet and I hope it stays that way. It's not perfect and does have a tiny bit of that open world jank particularly in terms of animations and NPCs repeating the same line if you walk away from them occasionally, but that's just an insignificant niggle at this point.

I do hate how much things pop up for how obstructive the UI is otherwise. Like fucking level up notifications, non skippable mission complete scenes, notifications for new missions or picked up artifacts staying on for way too long, repeating TIPS. I wish there was a way to turn tips off entirely because if I see one more "your samurai dick will vibrate near an artifact" tip, I will commit sudoku.

Post your screenshots if you got'em.

Game looked neat and is from a capable developer.
>Biggest red flag for me was not seeing any dismemberment
There's a tiny bit of limb dismemberment. It's not TW3 level of dismemberment, but it suits the mood of the game. There is quite a bit of blood spatter though. Like a better Dragon Age: Origins level of semi persistent blood spatter.

Just beat it, was quite excellent. Takes a lot from many games, but nothing bad and does it really well. Tons of shit to do, massive beautiful varied environments, and a very good combat system. Weird thing is, if somebody else were to watch the combat I would see where the assassin creed comparisons would come in, but really this feels like a blend of sekiro and ni oh. You change into 4 movesets you earn through play which you can expand, each stance is a hard counter to a weapon an enemy uses. You can use whatever stance you want, they'll still work, but each enemy type has like, a megaman weakness. Robust parry system, interesting special moves, it feels deep and reactive. Boss battles are fucking amazing, make good use of parries and the dodge mechanic. Before I unlocked the stances, most fights were based around primarily just that, like sekiro, but unlike sekiro the combat evolved throughout the game and had multiple avenues to deal with.

Stealth was fun, felt more like Sly Cooper than Splinter Cell. If you want to cheat you have TLOU see-through-walls vision, but it never seemed necessary. Plus most of the time stealth was optional as fuck and instead of sneaking around you could ride up to dudes, call them pussies and kill them in a Kurosawa-esque stand off mini game where it randomly selects a guy from their group, (I got the leader one time) and you stand across from each other while ypur opponent hoots and feints while you hold down attack, which if you strike during takes a lot of health from you. Trick is to ignore them until they actually come at you and release attack to FWISH one hit kill. You can upgrade it so multiple guys get enraged and come at you, and you have to time strikes with when they attack for more free kills. All the little shinobi weapons made it too easy even on hard though, kunai are fucked and will insta win any encounter if you level them.

I had a lot of fun with this game. Only problem was the story and characters were a bit bland, but if you switch it to the japanese dub they have like 5 voice actors from one piece hamming it up. Also it just feels sort of weird for everyone to be speaking english with thick Japanese accents.

I mean it's kind of like one of the newer Japanese ass creeds, but with more satisfying combat, less forgiving stealth to some degree and less emphasis on climbing around. It's a bit of a mix between Witcher 3, Ass Creed Origins and like the new Tomb Raiders. It's great and well worth the $60 IMO. Like the other guy said, the story can be a bit bland, maybe bland isn't the right word, it can be too serious and one tone, but it's solid and serves as a solid vehicle for the gameplay and locations.

It's just....good.

Also anyone starting a new game, do yourself a favor and start it on hard. I kind of bitched out at first and realized that past the first few encounters, I was getting a bit too comfortable with the combat and started destroying everything and I wish someone told me. Hard feels like what Normal should have been.

It's not Sekiro, like honk said it's like a mix between Witcher, AC, Tomb Raider and I'd say maybe even like a heightened Batman Arkham style of combat, same with Shadow of Mordor, like that kind of game. On hard you'll probably die, but it isn't crazy punishing. The Dark Souls games and Sekiro are on another level.

I've been thinking about this a little bit. It does have a similar style combat to those, the hard counter for different kinds of enemies particularly, but unlike Batman (iirc) where a lot of enemies have a counter that you pretty much have to use, Sushimas has enemies that have hard counters (different stances for guard breaking) but can still be dealt with in multiple other ways like just sticking their ass with a bomb or kunai, and that makes the combat much better imo. It also doesn't have that emphasis on building up a combo meter either.
Not to mention the block/parry mechanics shit on Batman's and are way more like Sekiro's.

Doesn't it though? Each time you kill an enemy you build up mask points or ghosts points or some shit in the lower right corner of the screen. I haven't even played this game, but it looks like one of those fun to play but not all that groundbreaking type of game, like it isn't really anything new.

If i were the company that made Sekiro I would hard sue SuckerPunch over the red dot undogeabe mechanic. Yes there are obviously other games over the past that copied mechanics, but this is almost blatant.

>The camera situation is fucking trash though man. Half the time when I die it's because an enemy moved off screen or some shit.

I keep seeing this complain over and over again and I can't help but feel that people just need to git good. The camera isn't as abhorrent as some people make it out to be, the game just doesn't have a lock on button that people are used to. Just learn how to maneuver it in combat and don't get stuck in tight quarters. Like sprint and roll out of the way into a more suitable, advantageous position. I get it's not perfect and every once in a while I'll get a stand off where it's difficult to see the enemy's movement because of tall grass or a tree in the way, but it happens so relatively rarely. People are just whining for the sake of whining.

Just listened to the Filthy Casuals episode on this and they were complaining about some of the same things. The only really legitimate criticisms that they had was that the main story isn't really super interesting, it's not really as cinematic and Kurosawa inspired as it claims to be and the haikus are kind of garbo. Everything else they bring up really seemed overblown and just fairly minor criticism of an otherwise really solid and delightful game. I love the pod and those three, but they were complaining about how it felt too gamey and one of them had to drop it down to easy to really enjoy it lol.

What you just described is a trash camera system my dude. If you have to play around the camera system to stop it from getting in the way, then it's shit. I'm like 15 hours into the game on hard mode now and it's pretty easy overall so I'm not sure what makes you think it's a "git gud" situation rather than it just being a shitty camera lol. I got used to it already. I can play around it. It's still bad.

God of War 2018 had the same issue of a shit camera that rides your character's ass, but I still managed to beat that one on give me god of war. I loved that game, but I'm not blind to the faults it did have. Same with Ghost of Tsushima.

I'm not your dude, feller, and I think you're exaggerating; It's not trash. It's not perfect, but totally serviceable if you have any control over your right thumb and can push the dodge button fast enough.

I don't disagree with you that the game has its faults, it has many, but it seems a lot of people are saying the camera is shit when it really isn't.

I think I'm a bit defensive about this game, because I'd really hate for someone that would otherwise have a blast with the game to be put off by some of the negatives that people seem to be focusing on right now. The game's good.

I'm not saying that it's the worst camera ever or that people should avoid the game lol. I think you're exaggerating what I'm saying in your own mind. There's no need to get defensive over a little comment about a game you like man. It's not a big deal. The fact that so far the only complaint I really have about the game is the camera speaks to how good it is overall. But yeah, I'm gonna call the camera trash because it is. There have been plenty of games over the last 20 years that have figured out how to make a good camera system so there's no real excuse for it.

Just beat Ghost of Tsushima.

Man, I enjoyed the hell out of it. It wasn't perfect, but it was goddamn fun and well put together, it looked and sounded pretty and it got me teared up a couple times. It also feels like a complete package and by the time I beat it I genuinely was ready to finish and be done with the game.

With that said, it would be dope if they do some kind of thoroughly different DLC in the style of Witcher 3's Blood and Wine.

God damn it. It's a good game. RIP Nobu.

I think I'ma pass on this.

Ghost of Tsushima was great at first, but then it became really tedious over time. I think the 1 on 1 duals are very good, but that's about it. Story is incredibly boring too.

It really doesn't at all, you seem to just think in black and white. This isn't the "Only say good things about the game" thread, it's the "talk about the game" thread. Someone offering their opinion on an experience after finishing a game isn't trolling.

Do you not see how this is an absurd and untenable position? He didn't even just say "I didn't like it," he specified what he liked and didn't like quite explicitly. There's nothing at all wrong with a discussion instead of a circlejerk.

The game just lost me after a while. It's beautiful, 1 on 1's are always fun, but everything else got tedious after a while. I don't have to dick ride this game, you know.

Yeah, most likely in his early twenties. I’m not gonna lie, I was the same way with people when they fairly criticized something I liked. Whether you like something or not doesn’t really make a difference to me. It’s... okay if someone doesn’t like something you like.

>>755434

I’ve been here since 2013, now just on and off. But yeah, I wasn’t shitting on the game. It’s not terrible. It just got very tedious and repetitive after a while, much so like Assassin’s Creed. 7/10.

Microtransactions are the bane of many gamer's existence, so much so they will actively avoid certain titles completely purely because they exist. That's taking things a little overboard in our opinion, but you will be happy to learn that the newly announced add-on to Ghost of Tsushima will not include any of them whatsoever. Sony has confirmed that the free co-operative expansion arriving at the end of this year, titled Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, will not include any microtransactions.

Since I started this thread, I feel the responsibility to wrap it up maybe.

I beat it last week sometime and I personally really liked it. It's a really solid game, but it wasn't perfect. It had major flaws, but it tickled my fancy and I completed it because it was more focused and scaled down compared to other open world games. It was also a game that was clearly made by passionate, capable people and it showed. It had a lot of polish and tiny little accentuations.

I thought it was a lot of fun and just enough game for a normal person to actually finish. It did most things right and very few things wrong. Ghost of Tshushima is a good game.

>it was more focused and scaled down compared to other open world games.

I actually shared a similar sentiment earlier in this thread. Even if I got bored of GoT, I still think it's a better game than RDR2, which I think is incredibly overrated.

For the kids who spazzed earlier, not once did I say GoT is bad. Let me say it again, but in a different way- it does a few things right as an open world game, but it became repetitive over time. I'll most likely finish it, but not enthusiastically. I'm halfway done with Act 2 anyway.

So, my all time favorite game is SMT 3: Nocturne. Someone here may dislike it, and that's fine. I don't give a shit. I have more important things to worry about rather than a stranger not liking something I like. Although I'd rather have a healthy discussion about it as opposed to what happened here. Four and I disagree on a lot of shit here. That doesn't mean I'm going to try to boot him.
