wow, the quake-con surely turned into shit.
They showed a Quake-match only for the LAST 5 MINUTES of their Stream! At QUAKECON!

it was 90% people talking about boring stuff, also things completely unrelated to Quake and gaming in general.

well, fits their desastrous release of Quake 1 and DOOM on their Bethesda-"launcher".
>graphic-glitches
>no music
>idiotic overlay that telly you you are offline when playing DOOM 1 & 2 !

so much disrespect and shitting on the ip that made id great.

there was a Schooln DOOM-LAN-tournament with Romero attending and it was 100% more interesting than the slimey Quakecon-snorefest.

>Romero leaves
>Quake 2
Romero was always the SOUL of Id. Once he left all we were left with was that sociopath Carmack

Bethesda just doesnt know what its doing, nothing makes it more obvious than Quake Champions and Doom Eternal. Only way Doom 2016 was good was the fact that it took some ideas of the original doom and implmented into the game. Everything they added themselves was complete shit like weapon upgrades and fucking health and armor stats.

Maybe all of these guys are weird boomer nerds who all got way too rich and way too famous way too young and so are kind of all pieces of shit who don't actually know what they are doing any more in the year of our lord 2020.

Romero actually brought it up and admitted that was exactly what happened. I think it made him a better person, Carmack on the other hand is still soulless murderbot. Si6il is more fun than everything Carmack worked on after Romero left.

Quakecon died in 2013. It started with bethesda hiring some third party event organizer that just fucking sucked at understanding how to actually run an event for fun. They tried to heavily data-mine, and it was apparent in their bureacratic approach. Lines for everything as they tried to monetize it. Peak demise of quake-con was Evil vs Rapha when they had their insane multiple over time duel for life and the cosmos and everything sacred. What was that 2016?

Fun fact: most of the quake-con demographic are drunken white men, I could tell this by using my common sense and logic. Bethesda being a progressive modern bureaucratic company probably thought it wise to destroy one of PC gaming's greatest legacies - because optics. Instead of actually trying to re-shape one of the most skilled shooters, they went after them duckets. Just look at the shit-show that champions became. Monetized to shit, no lobbies, no private servers, and cringe worthy art direction, shit net code, shit audio. It doesn't take an entire dev team to realize how absolute shite the direction of the game went, makes me wonder just how much meth fumes they were getting high on. Literally one of the first updates in years happened yesterday, and it was a one map update. Then they were dumping millions into tournaments for a game that literally has like 20 top-tier players that show up year after year for their sweet tournament money. It's become this horrible circle jerk.

Makes me cry when I consider the legacy of arena shooters, and where they have ended up. Quake had weight.

Romero and Carmack were the ur example of the whole being greater then the sum of their parts.
