It's September therefore according to CVS it was Halloween last month, so it's officially nearly spooky season! What are you guys doing and playing if anything?

I just started a new game of Eternal Darkness and while it's not scary it's definitely putting me into a spooky fall mood and I dig it. I wasn't sure if I were into playing any horror games this fall considering how depressing everything has been lately, but if I beat this one, i can probably move onto the next.
It's also actually a neat game with widescreen support in 2002 somehow.

What spooky games are you playing or planning to play this spooky season and how does it make you feel? I grew up and currently live in New England so I'm really stoked for cool days and cold nights and the smell of leaves and burning oil and entire flora going into a depressing, gray hibernation. I fucking love this time of year.

Carrion is fucking awesome but I wish the environments were more distinct. I'm genuinely lost halfway through the game and I don't know how far I have to backtrack.

The animation of the monster is just incredible. It must have been a serious bitch to code all that. This game is gorgeous and it warms my heart.

Doom 3 is my shitty October game. I really, really like the dumb Boo! Haunted House nature of the first couple hours. It's just so silly that it feels like a cheesy carnival attraction.

I still cant decide on what horror games I'l play during this October. Every Year I plan to play Silent Hill but those puzzles man, I'm too much of a brainlet to work them out and too proud to look up a walk through. I actually never finished 1, 2, or 3 and I owned all of them In my childhood. I just watched my brother play them

>Clock Tower
>Nightmare Creatures
>Dino Crisis 1 (Yes, I do think Dinosaurs are scary)
>I have no mouth and I must scream
>Alone in the Dark (Old Dos Game)
>Yumi Nikki
>Extermination
>Mcgee's alice
>The 7th guest

I'm kinda looking for a more recent FPS horror experience but one that isnt jarring to look at like Resident Evil 7. I'd love some suggestions

Man, this October is gonna be sick. fucking love Halloween

yo an old favorite, surprising undying sees so little mention considering the uptick in lo-fi spoop games over the last couple years. seconding since it's a solid old game with some neat design work. (also if you happen to be a fan of barker's other horror and fantasy works you'll see some familiar ideas popping up.)

my suggestion is the OG american mcgee's alice, fitting since it was sold as a twofer with undying at one time. classic 1999/2000 edgy horror plastered on everything, outstanding music, and solid play. (the sequel, madness returns, is also worth a try. they got really fucking weird with some of the art direction too.)

Ya I'm probably gonna end up playing and maybe even trying to finish Alien Isolation, Dying Light, Prey, and probably Outlast 2 plus trying to finish the second half of Darkwood. The second chapter of Darkwood is definitely hard as balls so far. Hmm let's see pretty sure I have some other good spoopy games but those are the most likely to start or finish. Darkest Dungeon is also pretty ace. If you like Darkest Dungeon, Deep Sky Derelicts also looks pretty decent.

Clive Undying is a masterpiece. Amazing atmosphere, great gunplay, and has genuinely freaky spooky moments. Surprising for an actionpacked game.

I'm just really sad about what Happened to Jericho. Great concept, and what little I got to play of the game, the characters were amazing. Its just so buggy and broken.. I feel like I need to put it in the rest and finally finish it someday.

Doom HellGround megawad actually did a remix of all of Mcgee's Alice for it on midi. Its actually pretty decent. Check if out.

Forgot how brutal Nightmare Creatures can be sometimes. Had to redo the first couple of levels multiple times til I gave up and started using savestates.

Just seems like the hitboxes of the monsters are just so much bigger that your character. I think Nadia has smaller hit boxes. I always prefered for how fast she is but I dont think I can utilize that speed all that well.

I remember NC being difficult as fuck. I had an original copy of the game (ironically giving to me as a gif from a friend that said I can have it) and I gave up on the second level. NC2 was not as friendly either; if I recall correctly. Still a good game, although the difficulty is up there as well for NC2.

By default, the difficulty is set on hard from the beginning. I dont think its fair. I can understand some developers would want their game be played in a certain way, but the Adrenaline meter just puts way too much pressure on anyone playing the game for the first time. The meter can deplete in a matter of seconds so you have to know where the exit is. you also have to be familiar with the platforming sections. Failing a jump instakill you so the tank controls can be frustrating. Some monsters also have a lot of health which can be exhausting.

Personally I think thats the best way to play it but I can understand why it would turn away some people. Everytime you manage to survive for just a bit longer and you venture into a new area, the tension is really high. Without it, it just doesnt feel like much of a survival action game. Feels like playing Resident Evil on easy mode, not really all that scary.

Beautiful game. Read somewhere most of the stages in the game are based on blueprints from 19th century London. Great soundtrack and Vocie acting too.

If you don't know the lore, Diablo in 2 is the fighter from Diablo1. The rogue is implied to became Blood Raven and mage is suspected to be the Summoner. So power corrupted the Diablo1 characters to betray their good intentions.

Jericho is pretty fun if you can accept that most of the gameplay is a very arcade like experience.
It's not much of a spooky game though, but there's plenty of body horror and gore. The story and setting is pretty neat but it doesn't go much beyond the initial premise.

I played it on the 360 back in the day and don't remember any bugs, I guess the PC version might be fucky.

Max Payne has some freaky moments. If you fall off the trail of blood in the nightmare sequence there is a high pitched scream that you have to listen to it entirely before you die.

That person is just misremembering. The PS2 version has the same audio cues as the PC version. There are two nightmare sequences, and it's only the second nightmare that has the scream after you fall off the blood track. It was literally the most terrifying I have experienced in a video game and I was playing it at night, alone, with my face pushed up to the television.
