Anyone else hates this bullshit "fill-up-a-meter-to-pick-up-item"- or "hold button to pick something up" -thing thats so rampant in survival-games (but leaks into other genres)?

I want to just klick an item or drag it into my inventory. Just Pick it up and not looking at a loading-icon!!

"hold-button-to-loot" is such a waste of my time!

I think it's suppose to emulate picking up something and then storing it but yeah, if it isn't a survival game or immersive RPG or similar than it's extremely retarded.

Depends on the game.

If I'm suppose to load up mid fight, and the levels are built to be arenas and not meant to be explored, or create high level immersion, then yeah autopick up please.

But if it's designed so that every fight is supposed to be approached with what you have on hand, and there's a bunch of little areas that are rewarding find, it's good to slow things down a bit.

Or the inventory is a little bit more deliberate, like limited space, or certain key items need to be made to stand out, you probably want to make sure people understand what they're doing after their scavenger instincts kick in.

State of decay had a hold button to loot thing, but you could make it nearly instant at the cost of making a bunch of noise and alerting zombies. Tying it into the gameplay mechanics made sense there. However most of the time, yeah autopickup please.

Just started Shadow of War, and one of the last upgrades in a skill tree is the ability to automatically pickup loot. Which tells me two things: 1) developers know full well what a pain in the ass manual pickups; 2) they still included them because they thought they could probably get away with making their game less fun in order to encourage people to buy microtransactions to skip the grind of natural leveling progression. Super glad I didn't buy this game at launch and waited until they patched that shit out, but it still bugs me that these little remnants of the old pay to win economy are still littered everywhere.

I'm currently replaying The Outer Worlds, trying to give it another chance. It's not going so well....

But yeah, hold E to pick All the items. Hold E to open Door. It gets in the way, and there really isnt any need for it. I really do think it does the game a disservice, filling it up with mundane unnecessary action. Waiting for a door to open is good way to do it, but imagine if you had to keep pressing space to open a door while playing Doom or something. It would fucking kill the game.

Yeah well you see it actually makes since to do it in TitanFall2 since its so hectic and you don't want to pick up a gun randomly while sliding around.

yeah, this shit actually makes me stop playing a game unless it's phenomenal in other aspects. if its a lot of the time then fuckin drop that shit. like that mad max game a few years back but that had a lot more shit besides that wasting your time.

sometimes it's okay, in a horror game like Evil Within has some shit where you gotta manually crank a crank to get to the next area or some shit and meanwhile theres spooky fuckers around so it actually adds an interesting choice like do i fuckin go for it or kill everything first. that game sucks too though.

mang, you reminded me why I stopped playing Mad Max.
This obnoxious "pci.up" or "intereact"-mechanic made this game a total chore!

if picking up stuff is annoying, maybe the inventory should be bigger?

They should have gotten rid of that in Crysis too

I love holding buttons, thats like the main reason I play games, apart from pushing buttons and wiggling sticks

This made me think, speaking of fiddling juicy sticks, why hasn't there been a L4 and R4 esque button activated pulling the stick up? That's the only one thing on a controller I've never been able to do to my penis. Not to get philosophical about video game controllers, but why do we press down, but never pull up?

Pure unsubstantiated guess here but maybe controllers that did that would break a lot.

Yeah, things break a lot when you pull them, its basically science. This would be impossible with current technology unless theres some kind of carbon tubes breakthrough.
