And this. Don't bring obviously sketchy items and don't act like a lunatic and things will go smoothly. TSA agents aren't always friendly (Who can blame 'em? They have to deal with government bullshit and the irritable public.) but they generally get you through security in a timely manner.

In this thread we ask the question,

"why in the fuck cant californians use their goddamn blinkers before making turns or lane changes?!"

My conclusion is that everybody in California is literally retarded and shouldnt be driving.

So since im tired of almost getting hit everytime i drive, lets start a new trend. Everytime i get cut off, or mr. Jackass decides not to use their blinker, im gonna throw a handful of pennies as hard as i fucking can at your car. :)

actually the further north up the west coast you go, the more aggressive the drivers. in terms of driving aggression/tailgating/cutting off/extreme lane changing, etc. i would say BC > WA > CA > OR

I've lived 1/4 of my life as an expat almost half way around the world without stepping foot back into the Western world (best period of my life actually) but I have gotten both bored and too comfortable. So, I am going to move to Nepal, I know very little about the place apart from Buddhism which I semi follow and the usual stuff, mountain etc.
I plan on moving to Pokhara and lets see how things go. I knew nothing about Asia when I first moved there and I survived, so why not survive again on round #2...

Hey I was considering purchasing a 2015 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited but have been informed that Legacy's up to the 2014 model year have the Takata airbags that have caused deaths and injuries due to shrapnel shooting from the airbag inflator from the front passenger airbag into the driver. Some people told me the 2015 model Legacy gets it even though the Subaru Legacy says only up to year 2014.

I'm a cross because the Legacy has the safety gadgets I'm looking for but this Takata airbag recall and other recalls commonly associated with Subarus listed on their website make me question buying this Legacy.

I'm thinking of getting a Volvo or Hyundai which are two cars that don't have Takata airbags and have any safety recalls that harm the vehicle's occupants. I know it's like a 0.8% the Takata airbags hurt you but it's not worth it to me to drive knowing it would injure or kill me. Meh. Should I get the 2015 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited or which other vehicle would be worth looking at?

if it was sent in for recall wouldn't the airbags been replaced? If it bugs you that much then I'd say look at other cars. I know a couple people who've bought hyundais who are very happy with them.

That being said my mom bought a subaru outback a few years ago and she likes it.

Anyone here done the whole South-East asia backpacking trail thing here?
Im leaving in June to go to Tokyo then to South Korea and basically overland all along the coast from Shanghai to Singapore. A couple of weeks for Java and Bali and then onto australia. Im going solo, except for a week with friends at the start in Tokyo. I have a few destinations picked out, most of them are the well known big ones you'll find in most travel guides.

I just wanted to ask anyone from here to share their experience of backpacking and shit to see/do along that route.

What kind of accident? I don't know how old your Subaru is but if it has 16k it is likely near new so you've probably got a lot of debt on it and possibly negative equity. Which translates to HOLD THE FUCK ONTO YOUR FUCKING CAR HELLO? NEGATIVE EQUITY!?!?!!

The subaru was paid for in cash, new

It was a rear end accident where a hyundai hit me at 40mph while I was at a red light. Not good and should have been totaled. paid 27k after tax for it and bluebook for it is close to 24k. I have yet to get the diminished value from insurance. I want to get rid of it because it bugs the shit out of me and doesn't feel right anymore because the seats were fucked because of how hard we got hit and it never has felt 100 percent since getting fixed.

I've also driven a new charger R/T and I liked the way it rode. I'm not after cornering performance because I have a motorcycle that is plenty fun in that setting.

So I'm torn between selling the car, buying an econobox and pocketing the leftover cash or getting something that's "fun"

although now that I'm typing this and thinking about it, that subaru was a "fun" car and now I just want to get rid of it - albeit due to an accident.

call me whatever you want, but I'm looking at new for whatever I get. I wont ever pay over invoice for a car, that's how my dad used to buy cars and how I intend to do so

Buying a van to live/camp in Ignore Report View Thread Reply

Greetings, /vroom/. So I'm finally at a place where I have a halfway decent chunk of change saved up and I'm considering buying a van for the purpose of living in it. Yes I've already done a lot of research on this, I know it's not going to be easy and likely there will be a lot of trial and error involved. That said, the main purpose of this thread is figuring out where to get a used van for as little money as possible that will still fit my needs. This thread can serve as a van-dwelling general thread but that's my main concern.

A bit about me and my situation; I live in the US (Texas if we're being specific) and I'm wanting to move to Houston in December after I get out of school. I'm looking at the van as something of a short term dwelling because I feel like it would be incredibly difficult to live in a van in Texas in the Summer. It gets pretty hot here but hey, maybe one of you might have a solution to that. I have a gym membership so showering and whatnot shouldn't be an issue.

Specifically, by the end of this summer, I should have roughly $5000 saved up. I can either buy a van at that point or attempt to save up a little more between then and December. Realistically I could probably save another $500-$1000 in that time, probably not enough to make too much of a difference tbh. Anyways, I've been looking at some options on Craigslist. I'm also considering looking into police auctions as well, not sure if that'd be a waist of time or not. I'm flexible on the type of van: main things I'm looking for are reliability and no huge damaged areas. It could be a cargo van, a conversion van, hell even an old school Astro van. So long as it runs well and has a decent amount of space, I'm not too picky.

Any tips on where I should go? Or is there anything else for that matter that maybe I'm not factoring in? I'll be checking back on this thread regularly and look forward to any help I can get.

They're usually broken in the old ones. There was a trick for breaking them while driving that the drivers used to do all the time. Also, if it's not broke, just upgrade. That said, busses are not cost effective like you stated. Unless you plan on taking a band on tour with you, or otherwise bringing a crew to help with expenses, you're better off getting a box van or a flatbed dualy trruck and building onto it. Even if you can't weld, laying fiberglass is fucking easy... an if fiberglass is too expensive, just use a layer of wire mesh and some cotton duck cloth.

Having sold a number of vehicles online. It is 4-8 months of scammers calling. 2ish tire kickers who try and blow the engine out of everything they "test drive" and also lock down the brakes at every stop. And then some poor sap comes along and buys a vehicle that has been sitting for half a year. But not after haggling the price down by 10%.

Followed by another 3 months of fuckfaces trying to scam you. Craigslist is the biggest offender. But it is also where I generally get someone to buy my shit.

I will be moving from Sarasota, FL to Atlanta, GA end of this/early next year. So it will likely be winter keep in mind, but it is the south so shouldn't be snow.

So anyway, I have rarely driven on the interstate before so any tips for a 10-12 hour drive?

Should I go through or around Atlanta? Around would add 2-3 hours to the trip but might be less stressful?

I don't have the ability to hook up a MP3 player or anything to my car's audio. I do have a CD player, what would some good driving music to keep me awake/aware be I can make a mix CD.

Most importantly: Any stops I should make along the way that arent a huge detour?
Something I could enjoy on my own as an introvert, not take more then an hour or two, and not cost a lot of money?

> any tips for a 10-12 hour drive?
Take a stop every 2 hours or so and grab a solid snack or a drink while you're there. No-one is able to safely drive a far for that long without breaks, and most mistakes do happen on an empty stomach.

>Should I go through or around Atlanta?
Depends on when you arrive. The rules of rush-hour go for all cities of a certain size. Downtown of any city is a nightmare during rush hour... if there is a lot of traffic, I'd suggest going around.

Once you get close to Atlanta (around Macon at the latest), do set your radio to a station with traffic updates.. the same goes for any place with road works going on. In all cases it'll allow you to figure out an alternative route in case of any problems

>I don't have the ability to hook up a MP3 player or anything to my car's audio. I do have a CD player, what would some good driving music to keep me awake/aware be I can make a mix CD.
I usually sing along to the radio or any of mys favourite tunes while driving long distances... in my case it's rock or metal, but you might have other preferences

>Any stops I should make along the way that arent a huge detour?
Sorry m8, I've only driven the 75 twice (if you're taking the same route) without detours, and that's like 4 or 5 years ago as a tourist from the other side of the pond...

My friend back then told me there were some great fishing spots along the highway, but your catch will most probably go bad before you get to your destination. I remember a few different things advertised on signs, but we didn't have the time, nor do I know whether or not those attractions still exist...

Am 750/Fm 95.5

Every 8 minutes is traffic/news updates.

Everything North of I-20 is generally okay.
Everything along and South of I-20 is jolly african-americans. Just being blunt, you probably don't want to stop off anywhere around Bankhead, Dekalb, South Fulton etc. Homeless crackheads everywhere btw in these areas. Macon/Peachtree city are all civil places. You could stop there before heading up that way you don't get ditched out having to stop somewhere in South Atlanta.

I'm not sure what part of Atlanta you're trying to get to so that changed things. You could just take 75 up to Marietta the whole way pretty much. Or you could need to get like Lawrenceville and be better taking 441 up and then 316(?) over.

The best way I've found to keep the sandman away is a big bag of baby carrots. Zero prep is required, you just grab them at any grocery store and it's almost impossible to eat the entire bag in one sitting.
