Any of you saving up for a reachable dream car?
Or already own one?

Lately I've been going crazy for an E36 M3. Its always been a favorite of mine but the idea of owning one is something I'd like to make happen. Its my goal of 2017.

a necessary expense at our day and age.
how's taking a bus or bike everywhere going for you?
some of us can afford nice things.

Honestly? I'd have to say a Subaru Impreza WRX STi, from 2003-2005. In a Hatchback configuration. All-wheel drive, plenty of interior room, great horsepower, wonderful suspension, and dat legendary Subaru reliability at its best. The thing was built and designed for Rallycross and then put into the commercial market, so it has racing pedigree and all that. So it's versatile as fuck.

Can't find a good picture of the Hatchback, but here's a Sedan. I haven't price-checked these in a while but, idk. I suspect they'll be somewhat difficult to find in decent condition here in the U.S. Since people that own them tend to run the piss right out of them.

Unfortunately they never made an STI hatchback! Just a WRX which doesn't include the bulletproof 6 speed manual transmission as well as a larger turbo and intercooler set up. They do look bad ass in hatch form though. I owned a 2002 "Bugeye" WRX and it was a lot of fun. The AWD is no joke and it can handle corners better than most cars.

Having a nice car isn't a necessary expense.
I'm not saying you shouldn't have one since I might have had a nice car if I had a bit more money too but it's possible to have a very cheap car.

I just don't understand why people that work for half their waking lives buy fancy cars. I guess it's cathartic. Gives me even more reason to buy car companies' stock though so ill stop bitching

Really? Damn! Oh well, just the regular WRX Hatch is still plenty of car. I really should start looking around and pricing them. I suspect if I do manage to find one though it's probably going to still be plenty expensive.

You're just not a driver, that's fine. I mean sure you might "drive" but some people drive cars because they thoroughly enjoy it and have fun doing it. Some people can understand and admire the engineering and technical brilliance that went into making their vehicle. For others it's just like finding something that fits them.

Just because you do not like cars does not mean other people are wrong for liking them and wanting the right one for them. What are you even doing on this board then? Besides, would you define a 2003 Subaru as a "fancy car"? lol.

In short: Don't be a dick. Be a dude.

I like driving fancy cars. On a track. With the money I saved from buying what amounts to a commuter vehicle. When I'm not, you know, travelling? Anyway I won't post in your thread anymore

I'd love getting an old Maserati Coupe with a proper stick and third-pedal and since they're going for as low as $15,000, that's approaching the realm of reachable. Seriously, how else can you get a Ferrari V8 with a manual transmission for 15K?

Damn, you can get those for only 15k? I might switch to one of those then. The Impreza's I've been looking at range anywhere from 4k to 12k. The blue ones with the gold alloys seem to be on the more expensive side. But any other color and without the gold alloy wheels is considerably cheaper even if they're in similar condition.

I'm surprised, it couldn't have been a reliability issue since they're pretty bullet proof. I was going to get one but after reading 129321 views on the S2000 I decided to go with an AP1 this upcoming spring because I've heard nothing but positive reviews about it. Almost have the whole thing in cash but I'll probably end up taking a couple grand bank loan if I don't have enough by May 1st. I estimate it'll be around 15k for a clean one (Canadian dollars)

Certainly not about reliability (not from the engine at least, the susp. is shittier in the na for some reason tho)

These kinda of cars attract lots of unwanted kinds of people. then jealousy follows and you get slameroos on your door and your badges stolen ohh yeah and dunoo about the US spec Soupra but the trim quality in the Jap ones is 90's honda shit.

If you do go for the AP1 get a hardtop.

Actually I called my brother today (we shared all of our vehicles) and the Supra we had was a tortured soul from Japan (no wonder why we paid like 6k for it) I did love that jet cockpit. The trim issue I mentioned before, ignore it my brother told me this thing was abandoned in the docks and it didn't have a windshield on it for who knows how long (luckily the frame was halfassedly covered with some nylon, burned motor oil and poliestirene shit ).

The suspension was shit though. great brakes.

About the AP1. I've driven that one twice for very short lapses, the longest being like one n a half hours in traffic and 40something minutes in a type V, they're pretty comfy, total pantydroppers too.

Subaru 6 cylinders in general. I mean, a new Legacy 3.6 might be slower than an Accord in a straight line, but you know what good AWD and COG will do in corners, or light off road...

C4s are cool. But the Stingrays are my all time fav. That particular model is the ZL1, only 2/3 made. I dig the C4s and the C5s. The C6s were ok but the removal of the pop up headlights wasnt choice.
