Ok so I made a post a few months back talking about a trip I've been planning around the world on practically no money.

Well I'm doing it! I'm in Venice Italy right now. I arrived super late and ended up just dropping 20 euro on a hostel because I've been hitchiking for 5 days and was to tired to hunt down a squat in the dark.

I've been couch surfing and wwoofing as well as busking some street art. I make those outer space scense with spray paint that the tourists fucking love. On a good day I make like 20 euro. Even on my worst day I make 5-10 euro ( i keep writing euro because my pc dosent have a euro button because it was made in murica and im to lazy to look up the ascii code.)

Ive met tons of cool people from various walks of life.

The other night I pitched my tent in a traffic circle on the highway that had a lot of bushes. I got bored and wandered to the gas station where i met some homeless chick who was waiting for a ride and we hung out and she shared this huge ball of hash with me, i gifted her with a painting.

I'll write more detailed adventures and post cooler pics in the future. But right now i have to take my first shower and a shave in a week. I look like shit.

Pic is me and some distraught locals who hosted me for a week.

This makes me want to hit the road in one of my "homeless" escapades. Except the winter cold makes family hospitality too comfortable to leave

>>33063
When you say "hit the road" do you mean "go driving" or "go hitchhiking"? In the first case, get a thicker sleeping bag and you'll have just as much fun as you would in warmer months. In the second case, fuck that unless you plan on going south fast.

Ok guys sorry for the long content gap.

I've been traveling all over northern Italy, speaking my terrible and broken American accented Italian.

One thing I'll say about Italy is that the internet sucks balls. Most people still have DSL if any thing and if they live in even a slightly rural place its satellite. Thats if they even have internet at all.
Even when some one has the internet they either have a connection slower than 5mps or it's capped at a certain data limit. Sort of like buying minutes on a cell phone in the 1990s.

I finally have a moment alone to use the internet and browse 420 for the first time in months with a semi decent internet connection.
So of course that means immediately after making this post im going to watch as much pornography as my computer can handle.

So the update and my story so far.

I bummed around Milan a bit and few other towns near buy doing couch surfing, woofing and busking my art on the streets (which has improved alot since I've started my trip.)
I met tons of cool peoples and even made out with a 19 y/o.

I came to Venice for a wwoofing job via hitching (the main way I get around this country when not riding black on public transport*) but hitching in north italy is hard. It's not common even in the least (people tell me it's better in the south, but I haven't been yet). So I arrived a week late to my job and they didn't want me any more.

I then wandered around Venice for a day broke, hungry and tired.
In my wanders I heard a strong Bostonian accent coming from a restaurant promoter. The dude was like 45 and walked me to a hot meal and bed at a place callec "Youth Venice Palace".

Those are the 3 worst words I've come to know in my entire life.
It's run by this 50 y/o Persian dude who's an ex punk, who's a fucking mad man who we will call Nino.... because that's his name.

Sounds cool right?

You walk in the door and it's full of art and eclectic bullshit to lure you into the trap of slavery that awaits.
He's like your cool uncle who smokes pot and is liberal.....but did way to many extreme drugs too often in his youth and has a brain like a fried egg.

He then trucks us up to a fucking mountain where he bought a €125,000 house that's about a 30 min bus ride from any place any one wants to actually be.

Before buying it he saw it once in the dark and there was no electricity.
It's been sitting abandoned for 10 years, and it shows.

I've worked for a month for Nino up on Mt. fucking doom. He doesn't pay us, but we get weekends off in Venice and a place to stay.

At first I was desperate for the 3 hots and a cot. But he makes us work like rented dogs, then calls us on our days off to run errands in Venice (which interrupts my busking). He then gets us in debts. Usually for needing euros for busking supplies or food on the weekends.

I'm attempting to separate my self from this but there's not many places to squat in Venice in the Winter where you won't freeze.

But outside the indentured servitude I currently live, Venice is great.
Especially if you have money.
In fact come here and buy some of my art so I don't starve. I'm the Jewish looking kid selling paintings of space scenes and begging for pennies with the tall Lithuanian drummer and the short ass metal head Australian who plays a tiny guitar. You'll see around.

AMA

*Riding black means to ride with out any tickets, which I've been doing all over Italy. Usually at night the water bus in Venice they dont give any fucks but a friend of mine got a €65 fine for doing it. I only got away because I pretended to be from Mexico and had no passport, despite being a Jewey jewerson looking mother fucker with an American accent which netted me no fine. The Bonus though is that you can say you're any one from any where if you claim to have no documents or ID and they still write the ticket which goes to no one and no where.

yeah I do!

After learning the best days to busk and the rhythm of police and their patrols I've ended up making quite a bit of money.

Fridays are the best, I make nearly €50 a day on fridays not including what i spend on food and cigs.

But most of the rest of the days we make like 15-20 at most.

The biggest caveat of that is the police.

Even on a really good day the police are real hard asses on buskers and can really fuck up your game. I had a cop come up and try to arrest me in the middle of selling a painting and I just ran away leaving all my shit behind (it was just paints and paintings). But other than that one attempted arrest ive had little problems with the police.

My current housing is a huge complex of abandoned buildings near venice that I squat with about 12 other people. Mostly chill ass african refugees.

I got invited to lithuania for chrismas but it'd bankrupt me to travel there then back to italy. So Im staying here till new year (got invited to like 12 parties) then heading to probably sicaly till feburary when I'll return to Venice for Carnival to make a huge sum busking. Then after that Im going to parts unknown.

I've done this too OP, twice, and both experiences greatly shaped who I am today. The first time I hitch-hiked from Norway to Spain, leaving my home country with nothing but a €5er, some clothes and my fiddle. The second time (again with no money) I hitched from Finland (through Estonia) to Spain, and then back into Switzerland, then back into Spain.

Both times I survived by hitch-hiking, sleeping outside, squatting, couchsurfing, stealing, busking with the fiddle for money, etc. Immensely difficult at times but overall two amazing experiences that changed my life for the better. Where are you from?

Also isn't it fuckin' fantastic how easily we can do this shit in Europe? Like I had a few dodgy encounters, but never anything too scary or life-threatening, I love how safe this continent is. I'd love to do the same thing in the ol' US of A one day but many Americans have advised me that it would be a very bad idea.

Im from Florida. Its pretty easy and relativity safe to hitch in the us if you're a citizen. But it can be dangerous for foreign people because alone of people in the us are xenophobic (not all though) and if you are there illegally avoid the police like the plague. Busking is semi difficult in the us. Im in venice still. Come team up with me /have hobosexual relations with me.

I've never hitch hiked because you just get homo truckers who pick you up judging from what everybody I met told me. What you do is you save enough money to get to Europe, from there you can take dirt cheap plane fare to almost anywhere else in Europe/Asia. Dirt cheap as in EasyJet to Greece or Spain for 20 GBP on standby flights.

My friends all bummed their way through Europe by working in bars. UK will hire anybody to pour beer and you just save the money. They got these jobs by wandering in, asked if any P/T help was needed in the kitchen, then one day the bartender doesn't show up and you become the bartender.

So i ended up going to Florence instead where i stayed in a "squat/occupation zone". It had water and electricity. The main focus of the place was art. We had a huge party where we had tons of artist including myself paint the whole inside with crazy awesome shit.
I met a cool chuck and finally got laid in Europe.
We were supposed to meet today and travel together for a bit but she never showed up. I hope it was my monster cock that scared her away and just my personality.
Damn.
Well im broke and out of paint now, so im waiting on a train to take me to some friends house in the north to be hosted for a bit. Hopefully i can sell some paintings or borrow some cash from someone to get more paint for carnival.

I wrote the above last night and couldn't post it due ti weird web filters.

I traveled from Florence to varese with no ticket l. A little over 300km. I had no problems until the very end when on super hard ass ticket controller kicked me out a few stops from my destination. I managed to catch the next train tho ug if like an hour later. It was empty, which is sort of creepy.

It's 5 people, but there's one girl who is pretty amazing. I'm not used to girls thinking I'm interesting at all back in the States (Im generally a NEET who plays video games all day) so it totally flew over my head that she was interested.

Then after that another friend in Vienna wants to host me in her flat for a week or so.

One thing this trip has done is make me feel 100x more confident in my self in all aspects.
More confident with women, more confident in my self to get things done, more confident in my problem solving and survival skills.

I hope I'm able to continue this trip for as long as possible and see as many countries and people as possible.

Wish me luck in carnival guys.

Leaving for austria today from boogna. Gonna take the train as far as I can. I'll probably have to hitch the final leg of the trip once inside austria as the ticket controllers on trains are way more strict.

Bologna*

So last night I made it as far as Mestre (the mainland city out side venice). And it's a sketchy mother fucking place.
I found a tip on hitch wiki that told me about a secluded place to pitch a tent.
It was a vacant feild blocked from view by a noise barrier wall thingey for the trains and the highway.

I slept alright and woke up not dead. But when I got out of my tent there were two dudes near by.

They approached me I put my hand in my pocket on my multi tool incase i had to punch a nigga.
Well we talked for a moment and when I said I was traveling to austria they changed up their game and started claiming to be "European police"...pffff....they both even went so far as to show me the upper corner of their romanian IDs for a second each.....yeah right.....
I called them out on it and they started asking me all sorts of questions about my gear......yeah police......riiiiiiiight.

So i reach into my tent and pull out this
http://www.amazon.com/Cold-Steel-Special-Forces-Hardwood/dp/B00169V99K

And stand there.
They said there was now magicaly no problem and that I should have a good day and left.
I packed up my shit while I watched a distant junkie shoot up in this feild.

I walked to the station where I see the same two chuckle fucks loitering about (probably looking for bags to steal or wallets to lift). So I stoped and stared at them until they left about 30 seconds later. I even contemplated finding the cops to tell em what was up. But I ended up just boarding my train and heading out.

Im about to walk to the high way and try and hitch into austria. Wish me luck guys.

Wow dude that's intense. If I may make a suggestion borrowing and possibly misquoting this - "weapons are for feeling not seeing"

Doubly so in a foreign country where the local government is more inclined to defend their own citizens. It's a sad reality but pulling out something like a shovel as a threat in a tense interaction could very well get you killed if they have weapons too!

Sorry I don't mean to lecture, but if u can next time ur in a situation like that keep the weapon concealed and accessible and only pull it out if you plan on landing a few disarming blows within half a second of them realizing you have it.

Sounds like you're journey is picking up some more distance now, may there be a road for you!

I made it to where I was going (Vienna). But en route I got a really bad cold. But thankfully I was able to sleep all day and recover a bit. Still sick but feeling much better after laying in bed recovering most of the day and trying to get better.

The weather today was a bit nippy but a clear with only a few small clouds in the sky. Would been perfect to busk but I felt like death most of the day slept through it.

I'm so happy I have good friends who wouldn't turn out a stray dog in a rain storm so to speak. If I was on the road this sick I may have had to check into a medical clinic or find a couch surfer host.

Most essential things to pack:

The bag its self
Tent
Sleeping bag
Sleeping mat ( i didnt get one and regret it)
And a good multi tool, you never know when you'll need it.

Man that's so fucking cool, I envy the freedom you've allowed yourself.
Have you thought of heading to France and working in the grape fields? So many wineries out there look for travelers to work in their fields and a lot of them will let you use their land to camp on, provide you with food and a shower plus you make some money.
My buddy and I are going to pick cherries in BC Canada to start ourselves off, pick cherries in the morning and chill by ocean at night until the seasons over, then we're gonna take that money and hitchike somewhere we can stay the winter (fuck the snow man)

My only issue is how the fuck do you prevent chafe from walking long distances? I usually start getting chafe on my ass after walking for a few days and it puts me out of commission.
I talked to some fat chicks that told me deodorant is an old trick for it but it only lasts so long, I don't to look like a psycho deoderanting my ass on the side of the road with my thumb out trying to get a ride know what I'm saying?

so busking today. And some guy stops and looks at my paintings. Then he asks if I know about the earth being flat.
I then say, "Why of course it is, every one knows that. But where the real truth is is in the hollow earth. Do you know 1 out of 5 people are actually reptilian human hybrids"?
In a flustered tone he says "You're talking nonsense! Reptilians aren't real"!

It was sleeting (frozen rain) a bit today but I went busking any way. I first tried a slightly less crowded spot under some cover. While i was setting up a pretty rough looking beggar woman set up like 20m away. I made one painting and made abour 4 euro.
I packed up after that and gave her 2 euro. She looked like she needed it. She gave me a big smile.

I then decided to go to my ussual spot on the east side of stephanplaz (shwenplatz). Along the way I notice there are no other buskers in the area your supposed to have a permit to busk there. So I did it there (right in the middle of stephanplatz for those keeping score). I made like 25 euro but the weather drove me out.

There were some chinese tourists who were really into my show/ painting and kept tipping me. Then asked since they tipped so much if they could get a discount. I agreed. They wanted my fresh and still super wet painting. I told them to wait for it to dry first. They paid me and said they would come back.

I stayed for about 30ish more minutes making paintings that would never dry in the weather today. The chinese people never came back so i left all my wet paintings on a cardboard box i was using to paint on and wrote free art on it and left.

Im using a friends lap top thats from like 1999 and it runs slow even on this site. If you check out my facebook blog or dig through the photo dump a bit theres some in there.

I'm heading out in May to *indefinitely* travel the road.

I've ponied up a small amount of cash to throw into some gear. I hope to hitch as little as possible but there of course will be a fair amount whether I want to or not. Hitching trains or cars and shit. Starting in Atlanta, going to work up to probably the NE states. May hop over into Canada just to say I did it and then I'm heading completely West to Seattle/Portland or there abouts. I may check out slab city and spend the winter moving across the Southern states. I really want to see Hell's Half Acre but I don't know how plausible that will be.

Hope to hit Atlanta by next April again but I've no idea how fast I can move around places.

Already got some new shoes, a set of clothing, a pack and a basic set of tools. Need some tent/shelter deal and sleeping gear plus maybe some emergency food/rice and a set of cooking utensils. I'm trying to go as light as possible because I know I will dump half that shit down the road and I would be better just carrying the extra 50-100 dollars.

Two biggest decisions I am fighting with is should I take a guitar and a bike. I don't want to afford maintenance on a bike or the down cost but it gives you a fucking shitload more options and freedom. You can't trainhop with a bike tho. At least not very well. I only have a standard cheapo electric guitar. Busking with it wouldn't likely be possible because it is too quiet and it is big and heavy. I don't want to drop the money into a travelers guitar and it is robbery magnet too. I'd like it as a self-improvement tool or as a fun thing to do when down on the road.

If you don't already have an acoustic guitar, then forget about it. That money can be better spent elsewhere to aid your travels. Do not bring anything you are not willing to lose. People will steal your guitar. A bicycle can make travel much easier, but is bulky. There are foldable bicycles that you can buy, so if you need to hitchhike you could easily throw it in the trunk. However I have no experience with foldable bikes so I don't know if they're any good. A guy who hitchhikes on youtube named hitchtube uses a foldable bike in some of his videos.
>>33573
>uke or banjo
ukeleles are for faggots and Hawaiians. Banjos are cool but if you want anyone to hear it you're going to need a banjo with a large resonator. My banjo weighs 10-15 pounds, and while it is very loud, this is obviously not ideal for travel. An acoustic guitar is pretty lightweight and loud, and it's easy to find strings and accessories for it.

leave the bike. its gonna get stolen.

Esential gear:

>Good back pack
I recomend teton brand since their the cheapest ones ive found and of suprisingly good quality.

>Bivy tent or 2 man tent. the extra space in a 2 man is nice. I hate my bivy

>Sleeping rated to 32f or lower depending on the season. Mines rated for 32f 0c Even though mine is bulky Its litterally saved my life before.
I got my sleeping bag also from teton

>sleeping mat

>durable compact water container

>clothes

>phone

>First aid kit

>small ass camping cooking shit

>Good multi tool

>This

>Camera thats not on a phone to take cool pics for your thread when you start traveling.

>since its the

>Rechargable light source

Optional gear id recomend
I bought a little solar pannel the size of a thin paper back book that charges any thing usb. Id highly recomend it. they sell em on amazon for ok prices

if you read alot get an Ebook reader, i got a kindle paper white. It hardly uses any power and i put 1000's of books and music on it. it helps fill the time and you can pirate books.

emergency beacon if your going to remote places alot. Not super important to have. but if you break your leg or get attacked by a bear its good.

Extra optional is maybe a compact lap top or small tablet

>>33575
I didn't really intend to use a guitar for busking. More as means to maintain sanity and work on my self/skills. I've never used a folding bike and it still seems like the same problems of a regular bike without the need to keep it on a smiley.

>>33577
I figure the bike and guitar are crime magnets.
>Tents
I don't doubt their practicality but I am a bit skeptical on using one in less than legal places. Seem really obvious compared to a couple camo'd tarps and shit. I guess they make camo tents though? I'm going to be in the US and there are plenty of places no too friendly to tent pitchers AHUE. Or so I read anyways. Avoiding Utah and Florida specifically because of what I have heard.

I've heard the most important piece of gear is a camera and a knife/multitool and I don't doubt it. I have a Leatherman Wave, a Gerber Suspension and a Leatherman Skeletool currently. I prefer the Wave but I have thrashed it after just having it for like 2 years. It is literally unusable now, I need to get it RMA for free but I don't know that I truly trust it. I know in everyday life how fucking incredible that bastard has been. I can only imagine on the road what importance it will have.

I'm going to be doing this without much tech as well. I won't have a phone, tablet/laptop or satphone/lifealert or anything like that. I will take a shitty MP3 player and a digital camera but that is likely are far as tech is going to go. I've been cursed to have literally every digital item get #rekt in merely days of use so I've never put any money into that shit. I'd just end up busting it to hell somewhere or throwing it off a train.

I also already have a Kelty pack. I've read they are pretty fair.

I never used my Suspension because it was way too stiff. Like all multitools. Suppose it couldn't hurt to carry both. Leatherman went from a 25 year warranty to lifetime no questions asked. Maybe I got a lemon because everyone is blown away how beat to shit my Wave is. I should send it in because the research department would like to look at it according to some gear nerds.

I'd personally not mind an Ereader since living out of libraries would kinda suck and be too stationary for whole books probably but it is something I will think about.

Since you have been out, what is the most unexpected thing you didn't think you would face? What has been the most useful piece of gear you have used? And finally, how much has the experience changed you as a person?

not an unexpected thing that thappened. But going broke or near broke a few times in italy sucked. Ussually Id borrow money and then buy busking stuff then pay the person back or smoke em out or get them drunk at the pub.

update on whats been going on.
Yesterday I made no money busking in 4 hours and today i made 40 in like 45 minutes and then called it quits for the day.

So i stayed in a squat for a week and it was all chill.
But there was a meeting i was supposed to attend on monday to stay longer. I totally brain farted and thought the meeting was today......so they gave me 2 days and asked if I would leave after that. But a friend messaged me and offered to let me crash on his couch for a week or so. But its only a one bed room flat and he has exams and classes going on all the time.
So I also have some other people lined up i met in a hitchhiking fb group, but have not met in real life.

Were gonna get coffee this week some time to meet but he already offered me 2 weeks with him and his gf in his one bed room flat after this.

I also met 2 really hot goth chicks this week who both told me explicitly that Im hot...which never happens to me in the US. Im gonna go smoke wtith one probably this friday.
They both seem a bit crazy I probably wouldnt date but might be fun for a minute.

Also sorry for so many typos. Im using a german pc with german autocorrect and a german keyboard lay out. So im typing all downsy.

Sheeeit. 3 weeks before I depart. Starting to get hype. Still have a lot of loose ends to rap up though. I'm compiling a humongous supply of music for the journey. I may end up spending another 60 dollars on MP3 players. Again. I should have just bought the 64gb ones instead of a bunch of the cheap 8gb ones. At least I can just switch them around when they start all dying.

My shoes fucking suck too. I've been getting acclimated to being on my feet all day and I need to get some better shoes. I've heard Keens or Redwings are good. No idea on price. I've still got to get all my gear but I'm not worried about money. I've got 500 left for buying shit. I'll probably only spend 200 of that on gear though. Since most of that shit is probably going to get busted or stolen. Hitching out of GA is going to be difficult. It is illegal here along with spanging apparently.

I'll make a separate thread a couple days before I leave for questions or whatever and once I have gear. It feels very weird having so much of my shit wrapped up. I'm so used to living knowing there is a bunch of shit to take care of before I do anything. Now that most of that is cleared out, I have this weird ass feeling of being completed and ready for a new life? Strange vibes.

Nice job bro, good to hear all is well. I was going to leave out today but I got this fucked canker sore on my leg or something weird. :/ It is bruising up pretty good now so I think it will fuck off in a couple days.

I've heard that some sections of vienna are hardcore squatter territory with entire apartments blocks abandoned. Is that true? A bud I know says it was pretty sketchy later at night.

>What are your end goals if you are closing in on them?
Knowing I have something to work towards has greatly uplifted my spirits. Aside from a slight postpone. I'm advancing with my music way faster than I ever have. In college I spent 6 months going fucking nowhere. I've done more in the past month than I did then with shit I thought would take me months to learn being cleared in a day or two.

Mindset actually is almost everything.

im bored sorry if this is over posting...also im using a friends german phone with no e glish auto correct. excuse typos.
but to answer this better.
wjere i come from im a total beta NEET who can hardly hold a job, had few friends, was depressed, couldnt afford collage. no gf hardly ever. hardly ever get laid either. there are like no jobs so you take what ever shit job you find. and theres 1000 filled in job in job applications on tje bosses desk. so if you fick up xoure fired.
but i lived in a small town. i did have a few close friends there. and had good times. but over all it id say it was more negitive than positive living there.
the people where i come feärom are mostly rednecks or stoners. but the nature is dome tje best in the world imo.

now that im in vienma and making more miney on average than my fucking parrents but cost of living here is too high to rent a flat. but i feel the path to getting propper papers here and a job/learning german is super do able.
And with these things i can pursue my hobbies, intrests and intelectual shit freely here and live a much better life for a few years mabey.
then in a few years go some where else.

follow up random thoughts cause im high af.
weed here is cheap and eassily bought every where and varries in quality from mexicsn ditch weed to 2 grams if like dank and is tollerated but still illegal. its more open and tollerated in italy bit more expendive there.
im begining to for get some italian but im planning a short visit there this summer. but on the flip soe now i can understand some spoken gemran and now i can also read it some what like a child.
cant speak it worth a shit.
still can speak ok italian.
met my gfs mom. she hates me.....lets just say its due to being a dirty hobo from the us and thefes a bit of an age difference between us.

ive been living in a smsll party flat for a month and a bit of couch surfing. its free but gets old fast.
all the more motivation to get some papers.

currently im allowed 90 days with no papers. but i cant work. but the boarders are so open tjeres no way to controll/enforce it. plus im whiteish and got a us passport.

the standard of living is super high in austria. and its the highest in vienna. more reason to stay. i made 120 euro busking the other day in 2 hours. but then spent it all on cigs, esting out, my gf, booze, weed, paint, etc.

the gov here will give me money temporarilly while i "intigrate" into austrian society.
outside vienna and the few otjer big citties its all county side and looks like tavinana from original dayZ.

amy more questions?

gonma try and buy a phone this week.

Why not stealth camp?

You can set up a really good base camp in recently cleared areas because the foliage is so dense after something is clearcut, you can be hidden just 20 feet in.

I set up a 20x20 green tarp just 40 feet from a really upscale neighborhood and nobody knew I was there. You can slip in and out fast and quietly too plus hide your gear.

Hey I'm still alive.

Sorry for the long content gap.

I'm still living in Vienna and because I haven't been traveling I haven't updated much.

But a few things worth posting about happened.
I got a dog sitting job for 100 bucks a week twice a month for the next 3 months.
I broke up with my gf.
I found an abandoned house in the city that's well hidden. It pretty clean inside too and had a bed in it already that was wrapped in plastic.
It's been abandoned a little over a year now. It has two fireplaces and a wood burning stove.
There is a toilet but it needs to be fixed first.

It has no power or water.
I even found many of the keys to lock the place up.
I'd like to get a solar pannel + small wind turbine for some power. And there's a public water pump thing down the street at the park.

With a gas burning stove plus my wood burner I'm set with everything except a hot shower in my own house

I had one of these things once, it was okay-ish. The pump turned out to be of poor quality and it ate batteries. Also, it wouldn't heat the water in "real time", I would have to recycle water through it using a bucket.

It seems that one could heat a metal bucket full of water up, stick a hose with a sprinkler attachment of some sort in the bucket, haul the bucket up a tree with a rope and have a fairly effective shower that would cost next-to-nothing to put together.

Ok so I got access to a computer and can make a real update.
Sorry if it seems a bit different than my normal writing style, it's 3:30 and im a bit sleep deprived.

So I went to the rainbow gathering on the Slovenian boarder. I don't think I've smiled more in such a short period of time ever in my life before.
It started when I hosted a traveling girl in my flat for a night, then the next night another girl arrived. They didnt know each other but were both going to gathering. They kept trying to convince me to go and I kept going "Nah I got stuff to do tomorrow", but then over the course of the night they convinced me to go.

So I went with about €8 in my pocket. We hitched from Vienna to the gathering over the course of about 2 and a half days. Normally it'd take a day but we got unlucky.
One night we were near the Italian/ Austria boarder and passing out. So we asked permission to sleep infront of a gas station at a rest stop so that we could put our hitching sign up. Some really nice dude bought us 4 beers and some sandwiches, that was nice.
But about at 6am some rude lady woke us up saying "This is not a place for sleeping".
We kept asking if she worked there because we asked permission to sleep here, she refused to answer the question and then threatened to call the cops on us, so we cut our losses and gtfo.

We ended up getting a ride all the way to Udine (close to our destination) by a nice Austrian guy. H e said we were the first hitch hikers he'd ever picked up.
Along the way my two travel partners ended up falling asleep, so out politeness I stayed awake and continued to talk to the driver.
He asked me to teach him some italian. In my sleep deprived insanity I decided to teach him some swear words.
Fuck.
I offended the guy.
He wanted to drop us off on the side of the high way, I begged him not to and drop us at the next exit, he had to pay a total €14 to exit the highway and drop us off and get back on. Were probably the last hitchhikers he'll ever pick up.

We finally made it to the village near the gathering in Italy. We weren't able to get a ride and walked about 10km until some nice locals picked us up and took us as far as our map (which we got from another hitchhiker who got it from a dutch dude, so the map was in dutch) showed us. But it took us to some weird mountain road with a B&B at the top. They tried to drive us in their tiny shitty car down this old WW2 military road untill we had to refuse and walk the final 5ish km through the mountain. We finally arrived late at night and set up camp.

I ended up setting up my tent in a place that was next to the river that slowly collected more and more people.
We eventually built up a sort of cafe made from stone and mud, we even built bench seats in.
We would stay up to the wee hours of the morning singing songs, making coffee and cooking food.
We called it the rockery cafe.
I met an amazing set of weird people there.

At the main fire they would have a thing called the talking circle every night. A talking circle is when a fairly serious topic is chosen like depression, or dreams, or some thing like that. A stick is passed around and only the person with the stick can talk. It was very intimate and pretty intense.

But after a few days latter in the Rockery we started having story circle. Where we would choose a light hearted topic and share our stories related to it.

The last few days I was there I got offered to do some MDMA with my friends and one girl I didn't know super well. We all hung out by the river deep in the forest and made tea all day and shared stories, songs, personal things, etc. It was amazing.
I ended up continuing to hang out with the girl over the next few days and getting really close.
Then the end of the rainbow started to approach and I found a ride home with some one who happened to live right down the street from me.
The girl from the mdma day asked to come with me.
On the way back we stopped at a gas station at like 3 am, we were all tired and grumpy until one of my friend cranked up the radio and started dancing.
Then we all started dancing mostly naked and barefoot in an austrian gas station parking lot.
We kept shouting " BIG DANCE PARTY OVER HERE" in german at people, no one joined :(
This revitalized us, full of new energy we returned to vienna.

I hosted like 6 people from rainbow in my flat for a few weeks including MDMA girl.

We ended up becoming extremely close and falling for each other hard.
We ended up spending nearly all of our time together over the next few weeks.
But for various reasons she had to go back to portugal to deal with some things.
We had an extremly emotional good bye this morning. It's been years since some thing like this effected me so deeply. I really hope to have her at my side again some day hitching down the road into adventure. I think I will but it'll probably be some time.

Side note: i ended up getting extremely sick from rainbow because sanitation wasn't properly set up. I was the sickest I had been in possibly 10 years. I shit out all the liquid in my body over the course of about 4 day. I nearly went to the hospitol.

AMA about rainbow

I may update this more latter when im less tired with things I forgot.

This is compared to paintings i normaly do in 10 minutes because im selling a show as well as paintings.

I tried to sell them for more than I ussualy charge. No one bought them so I donated one to the store I buy all my paints at and the other to a friend.

Just stayed for two weeks in Berlin. It's a great city for my life style but is waaaaay to cold and wet for my taste. So I tried to hitch to Italy today. I didn't get a ride so I went back to my friends house in the city. Going to try again tomorrow.

Still alive in Italy. I stayed in Berlin for a month, it's an aamzing city that I dNf get to fully explore.
I spent a few weeks in Switzerland. I got arrested for busking and the cops took all my cash which was more than the ammount I was ing detained for. Then they deported me from Switzerland.
Just been chilling and avoiding the cold. No major updates. Gonna go south after Christmas.

Pic related, my deportation paper.

Also I find it unbelieavable that you squatted with african refugees and didn't get robbed. I haven't read the whole thread but I suppose you never got robbed at all.
In my area (central European country, fairly decent 60k town) it's impossible to even walk through some areas at night without someone trying to jump you.

Homeless people don't really get robbed often. Also, targets of robbery are a specific type of person. If you carry yourself different than some twiggy hipster wearing expensive clothes and looking at your phone then entire time you're out, you're far more likely to get robbed because I could just run up to you, snatch your shit while you are looking and your phone and run away with my back to you so you don't ever even see me.

News media also reports robberies every night in a city so 2 people get robbed it seems like an epidemic when it isn't. Also, OP probably runs around with smileys or some other shit so nobody with any sense if going to fuck with him. Especially if he is in a group of rough homeless adventurer kids.

>My question for OP at this point, you feeling the road catching up to you yet? What do you plan on doing after your body starts letting you down?

Right now not too much crazyness to report or any thing but the ussual stuff. My painting is really improving all the time.
Today i made like €70 busking for like 5 or 6 hours.
Smokeing weed every day
Had a few dates recently and they went ok, one went super well.
My hair grows longer by the day.
Im going to rainbow gathering soon, maybe one in portugal then definetly the european rainbow in italy this year.
After that I havent made plans yet.

oh yeah i almost got deported 5 minutes after entering the city!

I was hitching in a car and we got pulled over. They checked my visa, which ussualy never happens. They are mainly checking im not a wanted criminal and i am who I say i am on the passport.

This time they checked my visa. They said I could be arrested and then I told a lie about being out of europe in serbia but there was no boarder control. They seemed to beleive the story.
After like 5 min of waiting a cop came back the car and asked if I remembered him. It turned out it was a cop I had sold paintings to last year whike busking in a super akward way where he had money in his hand and shook my hand while I slipped him some paintings and a few other cops blocked our view from the crowd .....like a drug deal.

He said not to worry and hed protect me.

2 minutes later they came back with documents and wished me a good evening!
Yay.

I think I used up all my luck because I'm pretty sure that is the only cop on the whole planet i even sort of know.
The odds of seeing him again were tiny.
Now Ill never win the lottery.

Well right now the weather is shit, so not alot.

But normaly I wake up around noon if i plan to go busking because i generaly start around 2pm on a busy tourist street.

I'll do that until I feel Ive made enough money for the day or the tourists go home.
Then either I chill at home or I go out and hang with frineds, dumpster dive, go to shows, go to parks, what ever.

Some times I just dont go busking and do what ever or sleep all day or take drugs etc.

When Im on the road most of the day is spent trying to get a ride or riding in cars with mixed table diving at road side resturants and diving rest stop dumpsters.

Some times if im in a new city i just go out and walk around and look at stuff, talk to people, you know human things.

Dunno if they have them in Europe but housing construction sites in suburbs are great places to hide out. There is usually densely overgrown saplings and shit on the outskirts which was so dense, people can't see you moving or your gear and overnight you can shelter in the houses and be out by 4-5am when crews show up to work on them.

The Mexicans here will usually never say anything if they do catch you sleeping over. Mexicans usually show up later too but work through the whole day. White/black crews leave at like 2-3pm but get there at the crack of dawn.

A bit more about my average day.

If I'm stationary in a city I wake up around noon, coffee, joint, ciggarete, poop.
Then I chill till around 1 or so and head out, and either go the various art supply stores i need for the days busking.
I may grab breakfast on the way.
Then busk for about 4-9 hours depending on weather, how much money I'm earning, my mood.
Then if I have a host I usually stop at the weed man then go home to chill. I'm not so much into going out and partying these days.
If I don't have a host then I have to find a mcdonalds or starbucks with accessible outlets (for some reason public electrical outlets, toilets, trash cans and other normally free and public things are in short supply) and charge my phone and various batteries i carry.
Then I go to where ever Im camping that night and set up camp and chill the night away.
I busk about 2-5 days a week. This week the weather is shit so Ive only been once this week.

I made it to Switzerland, it took 3.5 days from Vienna.
I ran out of food and cash on the last day and a half. I made it to Bern on 0% energy, just sort of limping along like a corpse.
I was walking to my hosts house when I stopped in a park to rest. I saw some barefoot dudes having a joint. I chatted them up and they gave me some sandwiches and shared some joints. I slept in their camp and played with all their animals and smoked like 20 more joints.
Now I'm at my hosts house. Tomorrow I'll go back to hang out with th and do some busking.

You asked for questions a while back so I'll ask an obvious one, any advice on travelling?I've certainly learn't a lot here already.

I got a temp job till September where I am now and tbh I can already see my future and it fucking scares me, so doing something like you're doing might be the right path.

Also I know of a legit kung fu instructor I used to train under in highschool, I could go back to doing that to learn how to defend myself if thats something could be needed.

Not the kind of guy who looks for fights, never even been in a real one before, would much rather run away but do you think it might be a good idea to learn anyway, just in case.

Also I think learning the harmonica would be a good idea, its such a lightweight instrument.

Biggest advice, learn a buskable talent.
Begging is for retards, I've never begged.

But on that mention, the laws in Bern on busking are extremely ambiguous at best and in conflict with each other at the worst.
So last year I was deported and robbed by the cops (illegally) for busking.
Now I asked permission from the cops, they said it was cool. Then the next day different (plain clothes cops) said it was illegal with out a permit. The permit office said the permits only apply to music and besides costs 50 fucking Swiss francs a god damned day. Then lastly the law online says its legal except on Sunday's or on certain streets and if you make too much noise.

The kicker is begging is 100% A ok.
Fucking Switzerland.

Pic is some graffiti I did but the camera I'm using is shite.

Update on the gayness of Switzerland:
So my busking is 100% legal, but one under cover cop keeps harassing me. I went to the police station to report him, but I didn't write his name down because I a faggot, next time he harasses me he claims he will deport me. The other cops said if he does this to demand he calls his superior, but I'm skeptical this will work.
I'm in the process of getting a motorized leter from the city to defend my self but the level of beuracracy behind this is astronomical.
I've been chilling with the hippies in the forest mostly since I can't busk.
My graffiti on the legal graffiti wall was literally erased and painted over with the same color as the wall background. So this means either the city or the other artists didn't like my work....I wasn't even covering another artists work.....god this country is so lame.

OK I'm back in Babylon. This will be a mini update for now, later I'll write a more detailed account of my last few months. But the short version is I've been living in Switzerland in the Capitol, doing too much acid and busking.
Switzerland has been the easiest country to live homeless in so far. I can live off societies excess quite easily.

I was in rainbow gathering again.
I met a fellow 420 Chan poster there who said that this thread had inspired them to also start vagabond traveling.
So shout out to Ben who is still up on that God dammed mountain top at the rainbow. I look forward to your thread man.
I was 100% convinced pretty much no one read this thread so I had been getting more lax with updates, but Ben has reinvigorated my writing appetite, so expect a lot more update and pics in the near future.

I'm back in Bern for a few weeks because I'm broke and I wanna get some cash because I have a hot new dutch girl friend in Holland that I want to visit. I can rest and restore my funds and supplies quite easily in Bern.

OK talk at y'all latter

Hey guys,

Sorry for the long gap of real content. Like I said I was really under the impression that no one read this thing.

So last update was me going to Switzerland. I hitched there and arrived starving and out of money.

The ride I got dropped me near the edge of the city, I had about 4km to walk to my friends house. I was exhausted and totally in survival mode. I stopped at a park along the way with a fountain. I saw two hippies rolling a joint and eating sandwiches.
I struck up a conversation with them, they told me they lived in the near by forest in a camp with several other people.
Then they offered me a sandwich and a super long joint.
Those two things saved my fucking life. I instantly felt recharged. Then they offered me to spend the night in their camp.

The next day I went to my friends house.
I stayed in my friends flat on and off between the camp in the woods and some other friends places.

Switzerland is the most expensive country Ive ever been to and one of the most expensive in the world. I found it a little difficult at first to cope with the super high cost of every thing.
A coffee at Mc Donalds costs 4 swiss francs (Cfr), a pack of cigarettes costs about 9 Cfr.
(At the moment of writing the euro is worth 0.873 to 1Cfr).

But I ended up making a lot of connections pretty quickly around Bern (the capitol). And also quickly found the best dumpster ever to get continuously good food from.
I also did bottle recycling to make cash. You get 2Cfr for some bottles.
One of my friends also used to own a head shop in the past. So he had like twenty cheap ass Chinese weed grinders left over. He let me constantly come and fill up bags of the shit grinders and Id walk around selling them for one or two francs.
They recently also legalized CBD weed in Swiss, so I was also selling loose CBD cigarettes. I sold them 3 days in a row to the waiting line to get into a music festival in Bern, doubling my money every day.

Near the end of my time in Bern (before rainbow gathering) I started dating this girl. She seemed pretty chill.
She was really interested in going to rainbow and had never been before. So I invited her to come with me.
But before the rainbow there was another cool festival in Signau (south Switzerland) called Fire Fest.
It’s a lot like rainbow gathering but with a touch of burning man.
It’s a no money festival. So entry is free, there is a share kitchen and even composting toilets .
They also had lots of other good stuff like a security team, medics and more.
Also they are constantly building huge structures of wood and burning them the whole week of the festival.
The very first day of festival on our walk to the opening ceremony my girl friend very randomly and casually dumped me.
I was so taken by surprise of the whole thing that I was actually pretty hurt and couldn’t go to the opening ceremony and had to be alone for like an hour.

But after that the festival was pretty awesome.
I did acid 4-6 times that week.
I hooked up with a super beautiful woman from Canada who painted my portrait and did mushrooms and space cookies with me.
It was pretty magical. I am definitely going again next year.

Three separate times during the Fire fest I bumped into my ex girl friend. We talked and she said she wanted to still go to rainbow but we both agreed it wasn’t a good idea to go together.
Three separate god damned times.

I had found a ride the first day of fire festival that was going to rainbow gathering.
So I left on this ride and we spent the night at their house.
In the morning he received a text that my ex is on her way over to our place now.

God damn it.

So I had to drive for 3 days to rainbow with my ex who totally invited her self with out asking into the ride.
It sucked.

So we finally arrived with fresh spirits at the rainbow.
YAY!

We all decide to spend the night in the parking lot because this year the rainbow is on a mountain top that takes two days to reach.
But my ex decided to go now, just before sun set. We all tell her to wait till morning and that its dangerous to climb a mountain at night.
She ignores us and goes any way.

We woke up in the morning ate breakfast. My ex was back, she had made it to the first welcome center 1/4th of the way of the mountain and decided rainbow wasn’t for her and came down. She wouldn’t talk about why she was doing this. And then tried to steal my last fucking cola. I called her out on it and she was like no she wanted it. I made her give it back and she called me heartless and walked away.

Oh well.

So I ran into one of my best friends before going up. He’s from Brunei, a tiny south east Asian country. We went up the mountain together.
We carried about twenty kg of gear. Every step we took felt as though it were ten steps. I can seriously say it was the most work Ive done in my life climbing this mountain. It was mostly walkable paths but they were pretty steep in most of the places and then a few times there were actual climbs.
We got to a the first welcome center and spent then the night. I met a cute girl who I talked to a bit.
We ate dinner, we smoked we chilled and had a good time.

The next day I woke and had some coffee and joint. That same girl that I spoke to night before was handing out sancks to some people so I joined, I was starving.
She had Cashew butter. I decided to try and flirt with her. I had just been dumped and when that happens its more or less the only time in my life I actually seek out women.
Good rich food is a bit of a rarity at the rainbow so the cashew butter was an amazing gift, so I jokingly asked her to marry me.
We kept talking for a while and I kept flirting.

Then me and my friend decided to keep going up the mountain.
We finished the next leg of the climb in a single day.
We stopped at the next welcome center briefly though at the half way point and that girl was there again! Cool, we talked more.

We got to the top just around the call for food circle.
Food circle is exactly what it sounds like. A communal meal with most of the people there that is cooked by who ever felt like helping in the kitchen.
I walked around for a few minutes again before sitting down to eat and lo and behold that girl was there again!

We decided to eat together and then ended up spending the entire rest of the rainbow together! We were rarely apart.
I’ve totally ended up falling in love with her. Infact I am writing this on her PC right now in Holland, about an hour train ride from Amsterdam.

The rainbow was a blast, I even did acid one more time there with my gf.
There were amazing people and awesome adventures every day there. I even started writing a Dungeons and Dragons campaign with my gf during the Rainbow.
We intended to play it there with the hippies but we ended up not finishing writing it before we left.
I did have a few things about rainbow that I didn’t enjoy though.
Since the gathering was on top a giant mountain it was really difficult to bring new food up the mountain as often as we needed it. So the meals tended to be small and always vegan.
The area we were in was shaped like the mouth of a dormant volcano or a bowl. So the area on the mountain was actually quite small for the 4000+ people there.
Its like a desert climate up there. During the day it’s a trillion degrees and dry as fuck then at night it gets more humid and cold as fuck.
Then its also storming constantly, one minute it’s a bright blue day then the next it’s the black apocalypse written about in the old tales.

The storm had even killed a man, it knocked a tree down and crushed him in front of his family.
Another man died of a heart attack.
And one more had fallen off the mountain the day we were leaving.
Fucking metal.

So then I made my way back to Bern to recover a bit and gain some weight back I lost at rainbow. I did some busking and relaxing and binge ate.
The first day back I ate so much that I for the first time in my life I vomited from over eating. It was glorious.
I pooped in a real toilet and drank real coffee.
It was a transformative experience.

The thing I love most about rainbow is how primitive its gets at times. So that when I return, things that were so normal and every day become magic again.
I texted my ex saying in a much more polite way “Yow what the fuck was up with your behaviour”?
She said more or less “I don’t gotta explain shit” then blocked me.

Oh well.

So then I made it to The Netherlands where I’m staying with my gf and some other friends occasionally . Were getting an apartment in the next few weeks and Im getting a part time farming job to do along side busking.
This winter our plan is to leave Holland for some where much warmer and to do some traveling.

That’s more or less what I’ve been up to for a few months, doing too much acid, going to fire fest, rainbow and then to the present.

I’ve been to amsterdamn a few times now, I gotta say the weed is too expensive, the tourists make me want to punch some one and redlight district is still a bit of a weird place to me full of mostly bored looking women in garish costumes and crowds of stoned drunk tourists.

The weed outside amsterdam is good and way cheaper.

Well as usual fell free to ask me any questions.

I was planing on getting a bike and some travelling gear and just fucking go next year when it warms up, probably still will, hit up all the cannafests in britain along the way, if I ever end up in Holland or if I'm in the same location as you we should totally hang out.

So questions, what are your experiences and advice with drugs? I'm for cannabis due to the fact its really not that harmful but you seem to know about other drugs too so I'm curious.

Why leave Europe?

Asia is a lot harder to busk to survive in rather than the touristy EU with lots of dumb white people with too much money. You're gonna stick out more in Asia too. And I imagine getting back to EU or US if you decide to give it up at some point will probably be much harder. Unless you can get deported or something over there.

Hey guys

I've been working this job for like 4 weeks now.
It's physically hard work mainly harvesting, preparing and sorting vegetables. I'm actually building some muscle for the first time in my life since I was like 19. The work isn't actually that dificult at all and I get along well with the boss man and all the co workers.
I've learned how to drive a tractor and a fork lift.
I'm slowly building up a bit of cash towards my escape to the other side of the world again! I've really been trying to hustle my art a bit more online as well so that helps.

The Netherlands is honestly quite boring and dull. I find Amsterdam way over rated tbh. It's full of stoned drunk tourists who clog the streets only seeing the city either through a miasma of weed smoke or they are chinese tourists looking only at the world through their two thousand euro cameras like wide eyed idiots.

Also the red light district is more creepy than anything and is only a disappointing 4 square blocks or so. The women run the spectrum from genuinely super hot women who shake their asses in the windows all night to very bored ugly looking women looking their phones in one dirty hand and holding a sad looking sex toy in the other.

I'm pretty high.

Im gonna go watch star trek, it's my day off.

tbh, driving a forklift or tractor isn't all that bad. You can sorta loose yourself in your work doing. I had a job driving a forklift and time has never passed so quickly at work. An hour can seem like 5 minutes has passed. Pay is okay and most people are too afraid to do it. It's fun work and also pretty easy to come by.

Working on a farm can pass 12 hours in a flat second too if you aren't doing everything by hand and are actually using decent machinery. But sounds like you're harvesting and sorting by hand so that probably sucks.

Good luck. As always.

It's pretty fantastic over all. My only negative criticisms are obviously the whole visual style is completely not like the show but more like the movie which is a bit confusing....it's set in the original time line right?

Also episode 3 is sort of possibly continuity breaking depending on what happens in episode 4.

Ok minor update time.
Still in the Netherlands, it's cold, wet and flat.
I was working that farm job for a few weeks but eventually my lack of a visa (which the farmer was ok with at first) and general lack of things to do on a farm in the winter I lost that job. The guy was cool about it tho so NBFD.

I've just been chilling here and living life.
Making paintings and trying to sell them.

I bought a bunch of weed to try to sell then ended up smoking like 90% of it. Such is life.

The only interesting thing I got up to is that I particapated in an orgy with my girlfriend . First time ever. It was alot of fun. It was at a fetish club in Rotterdam.
It was pretty chill. It had all the normal stuff that any club has, a bar, dance floor, etc. But there were several rooms with beds, special chairs and such.

The next leg of my travels is starting back up.
In about a week me and my gf are going south to italy then east to serbia where I'm legal again. I can get on a plane in Serbia and then were going to Vietnam! YEE BOI!

The plan is to try and do this trip a bit more planned out than my trip to europe. Were looking into getting our teaching English as a foreign language Certs so we can get some real jobs while were there and not have to rely only on busking.

Pic related, me and my gf.

Can you get to Hungary or Norway? I know people there, one is a thief and a liar (norway) and the other is a depressing bitch (hungary) who can't accept that his country is undergoing a polarity shift from boring to awesome over the next few years.
>illegal
What fucking country are you even legal in anyhow?
>gathering
Tell me if you can ever make it to a USA gathering. We both wound up traveling with the family around the same time it seems. I really find the synchronicity highly amusing. When I first went to a gathering, I was tripping balls before I even got there, with a car full of hippies and street kids. FFS it turned out I was already crashing less than 3miles from the site when they started showing up, yet wound up putting about 2000 miles on my car to haul a bunch of friends out while constantly on acid (not that that's saying much, I was tripping more often than not since my first post under this name, until about a year ago.) and on the last trip, the glass roof of the car blew off as everyone panicked thinking the car was about to fall apart, sounded like an explosion, as i chuckled and toked my spliff and just reached up and closed the slider. They call me Wizard, or The Wizard of the Silver Chalice, as I apparently already had a reputation for passing around my potions in the chalice to street kids who were too broke to buy shrooms and didn't yet know how to ID them. Turned out that I already knew 1/3 of the people at the regional gathering of around 800, even met my neighbors from the opposite side of the country who lived on the street behind me there, as I was helping out at welcome home. (parents of a kid I went to middle school with.)
>spain
If you can legally be in the USA, you should be able to hitch a ride working on a cargo vessel and maybe make it here in time for the annual gathering in Georgia this year. If not, could I pass on some potion recipes to you to share with the family in Europe? At least the medicinal ones and some ways to really boost mushrooms? I've learned a lot over the past few years, and I'd like to see this info get to the family in Europe.

We went to the Portuguese rainbow gathering. It was one of the smaller rainbows i've ever been to.

So I just messaged a bunch of people who are also travelers that I know to see if they would be willing to be interviewed or to collaborate on a test pilot episode for a podcast about traveling.
I'll keep you guys updated.

Glad to hear from you again! Keep up with the updates, dude. I might be traveling within the next year myself. Likely out of my car, though, but this thread is great tips and fiddles regardless.

yo still alive.
Sorry for another long gap.
Through apathy I think Im scrapping the podcast idea.

So update since this is basically my blog now.

I was doing tuk tuk and it made ok money but was alot of long hours far from my house, but the company and the owner and all my co workers were very chill for the most part.

I had to change companies to one closer to my house and the new guy I was working for was a real shit head. He was like 22 and owned like 3 tuks.
He went from screaming to trying to act like my friend at a moments notice continuously for the week or so I worked there.
He kept fucking texting me all the fucking time needlessly while I AM TRYING TO DRIVE.
So once I pulled over to read his texts and I stoped for 2 seconds in place where there was a sign that said dont park here but I cant read portugese. The cops came immedietly and said i was there for 5 minutes when I litterally just stopped and shut of the engine and pulled out my phone when he came up.
For what ever dumb ass reason my tuk tuk didnt have the right paperwork for it. I had to pay a fine on the spot of 60 euros (all the money I had on me at the moment....funny how that worked) but since im illegal i basically rolled a 20 on speech and was let go to "Go home and get my documents then come to the police station in 8 days to prove who you are"......pffff yeah....ok.
I litteraly had 0 id on me intentionally. I think this saved me.

So I ghosted on my dick head boss after that (parked the tuk and left the keys and went home and blocked his number).

Then this is where the story gets even more fun!

So I was at Rainbow gathering in the spring where I met a dude who seemed really chill and pretty quite. He lives here in lisbon like me.
We got along ok, then three months after rainbow he calls me in the middle of the night.
He said "Im going to poland tomorrow and I need to you come over my house ASAP".
I told him I have no way to get there at 2 am so we meet first thing next morning.
Turns out he's going to the next rainbow gathering and his plane leaves in like 12 hours.
Ok......
First thing that happens is I come in and he starts going on about all these nonsese bullshit conspiracy theroys and borderline racists infowars stuff....I politely eat the breakfast I packed and nod silently.....
After an hour of that he tells me he needs me to take over his weed business while hes gone for one to three months.
He spends a grand total of about 10 minutes explaining this to me then we spend 2 hours constructing a wooden pyramid for his mother (the man thinks pyramids made of 2x4 and string have magic healing properties) who has a bad leg....I keep updating him on the time as the flight time approaches....He shrugs it off saying theres time each time.

Then its 1.5 hours till his flight we run like mad men to meet my new supplier/ his supplier and shake hands and establish some numbers.
Then we race to his house where he stuffs a bunch of random shit in a hiking bag and starts tossing bags of weed at me.
We make it to flight just in time, I wave good bye all seems good.
I go home and roll a fattie.
Next day he emails me a short list of clients to get started and tells me that he will forward my number to people when they contact him.
Cool.

So our deal was I was to set the profit of half of each gram aside to buy the next one, then the reast was split 50/50 for up to 3 months unless he comes home sooner. I also was to hold on to all the money so he could come home to a fat stack of labor free cash.

So almost immediately he starts going off script once he leaves. He keeps trying to get me to sell other drugs for him....basically every thing short of hard drugs. Im not really comfortable with that for all sorts of reasons.
I kept saying no until one day he threw a hissy fit over it but he was far away in poland and could do nothing.

A few more weeks of him trying to get me to move alot of random crap like pills that I turned down boiled to a head when I was on a 1 year anniversary camping trip with my GF like 4 hours out side of the city.
He called me and said that I need to go the bank right now at like 2:30 pm and send him all of his money because he claimed that he had an "emergency root canal"......
I tell him theres no way I can send the money today that he has to wait until tomorrow when Im back home and I can do it first thing in the morning.
He throws another tantrum saying that "I am his employee and he is my boss and he orders me to do this now".
I ignore him and finish my amazing weekend and deposit the money next day.

2 weeks latter he needs more money.

Sends him money a total of 4 times. Equaling nearly 1.5k.
It's the second week of the fourth month and then he randomly calls and says he needs 900 euros sent by the morning.
I tell him no more cash because it's over the agreed upon period.
He's broke. Turns out he blew all his cash partying around eastern europe for 4 months and never ended up going to the place in poland he initially intended to go to. He tried to vaguely threaten both me and my supplier getting him self black listed from one of the few good sources of good bud and employment here.

No he's stranded in poland or something, no phone, no money, no business.
I've taken all his people since he's gone.

From what I pieced together after he left is he's a total nut job who lives via partying and selling drugs despite being closer to 40 than 30. It's fried his brain.
He follows every conspiracy theroy, kept trying to sell me on holocaust denialism when i met in his flat that day. Does all sorts of drugs, rarley sleeps, is never on time or at the place you agree to meet.

So now I'm a full time dealer in portugal and slowly growing the business with out trying to get too greedy.

The plan is to take me and the gf by spring 2020 and fuck off to Vietnam and then I guess make a new thread here about that.

So now you're all caught up

I'm thinking of going to van or camper life because I make shit money and housing is like 1000 dollars a month everywhere that isn't the hood. So fuck spending 70% of my paycheck on just a house or rent and insurance alone.

The no jerb, busking, and hitching life is just too boring for me. I'll kill myself if I'm allowed to be with my thoughts too long. Avoid those tinfoil crazies too, they're nothing but trouble

Make sure you know to do major repairs and maintenance yourself or you’ll be tied down to your van trying to get money for repairs when you inevitably need them. Not trying to discourage you but before you set out make sure your van is road ready in tip top shape and spend some time learning how to fix it. I would establish a home base ie where you’re currently living and staying close until you’re comfortable with the life cheers mate this was my dream but I can’t keep my willy in my pants and have a kid. Also this is also a boring life especially if you’re the solitary type “you bring yourself with you wherever you go” so if you’re not willing to get out of your comfort zone and meet people and just have fun it’s going to suck.

I'm not worried about maintenance, given the time I could make a car from scratch if I had to since I've worked trades my whole life. The hurr trades meme is bullshit, there ain't no money there and the jobs are shit and mildly scarce. I'd also keep my job, I just won't have a fixed home. Mostly just pipe dreams, my mind and body has gotten too worn down to live in a camper and shit. I just work my time away and when I'm not working I try to sleep or zone out as much as possible. Drug tests prevent me from actually leaving the world daily.

>if you’re the solitary type “you bring yourself with you wherever you go” so if you’re not willing to get out of your comfort zone and meet people and just have fun it’s going to suck.

I've come to realize that if you're not the extroverted social type, everything in life sucks pretty much bruv.

That's true but it's possible to change. You don't have to be the charismatic extroverted social butterfly. Just take small steps to get out of your comfort zone. Through experience our brains are "wired" to behave a certain way like we're conditioned from birth but it's not a monumenttal effort to rewire you brain it's just takes will power, patience, and the willingness to get out side of your comfort zone. Like I said be ready to let go of who you think you are meet new people and just have fun dammit.

havent read the thread, just reacting to this
some people are just retarded man, like those so called "social butterflies" that are so "fun" people, in my experience usually just act like 12 year olds and have no respect approaching you, like laughing in your face from the minute they met you, making infantile jokes appreciated by their close group, people like this just come off retarded and irritating to me. so i usually try to keep my distance from them, which causes them to start "trolling" me, being extra-extra cutesy, bubbly, etc, like they can't accept the fact not everyone is having their highschool style of communication. i'm all for retardedness and shit, but I'm not gonna be all outgoing around people I'm not comfortable with, because it's just coming off weird and disrespectful in my opinion. like i get along really well with people that keep some distance, but I never managed to exchange 2 sentences of any value with those so called "social types".

Little update on him (I havent spoken to him directly in like 3 months). He's still away, last I heard stranded in spain going to every free festival and raibow along the way as a penniless hippy does.
I forgot to mention in my last post I also offered the dude a bus ticket home and a bag of free weed of 100g just as a bribe to fuck off and leave me alone, and he turned it down because he was dead set on getting that cash instead.
Funny thing is the offer i made him was more expensive than the cash he wanted.

Over the last 5 months or so this guy has been the only major stressor in my life and its the first time i was ever involved in a situation like this so I was currious how you guys think I delt with it?

This is just like you randi. Some nice crazy guy is stolen by destiny to hook you up with a bunch of clients and connects before going more crazy, and you can't even be arsed to go over his claims. Look into the data and do some tests on this holocaust pyramid. If it doesn't check out, then you have data to show it does not check out. If it does, you know something new. If it goes nowhere though, you should at least have enough anecdotal BS to allow you to get high and ramble off a piece of shit book that will sell to schizophrenic jews and schizophrenic evangelical christians (assuming you have drawings, for the latter) which would let you siphon off money that otherwise would go to crazies in government who want to create muh rapture, by sending money and guns to israel.

Pulled from the webarchive, the posts were lost during down time.

So I have been living a more normal non traveling life. I just sort of slid into living indoors after meeting my girlfriend. So the updates are fewer and farther between.
Im gonna keep writing here because I see it as my sort of long term travel diary.
And is life not the longest travel one can take?

So updates.
Me and my girl tried moving from the edge of lisbon where we lived for like 9 months in a tiny but nice appartment to the city.

After months of seartching we took an air bnb that we could afford for long term (like a year). When we arrived they were doing so much construction on the building it was unlivable. Both me and my GF have a sort of night schedule and usually sleep in the day.
So we briefly moved back to our old apartment for like 4 days. Then by sheer luck we found a new place. It was a really nice shared flat. Sort of dorm style. Like several private rooms (ours had the only private bathroom) and a shared kitchen.

But through a series of complicated events they doubled booked our room as stupid as it sounds. So now I am back in the original appartment on the edge of town.

I was planning to stay in Lisbon untill like 2020 or 2021 but we keep having alot of financial set backs the longer we stay here and decided to try to leave when my girlfriends work contract ends in like 5 months.

Our original plan was to save up here then stop in america then go to asia to continue traveling and living.

But the new plan is to go to the US to work and study (both me and my GF) for a year plus to save up again and not be an illegal drug dealing immigrant any more.
I did lots of research about where we want to live and it looks like Salt lake city is our next destination.
I can explain all my reasoning behind doing so another time, I'll just say it seems nice and chill for the most part and affordable.

I've been putting my nose into the books on game design at home pretty seriously lately. It's always been a passive hobby and intrest of mine that now Im trying to take seriously.

When I get to salt lake Im gonna try to get a job at least part time and apply for community collage, schollar ships, food stamps and all the benifits i can scrape.

My Gf is gonna study a Tefl and other similar non degree english teaching things while also taking a job.

So thats the plan for now!
I'm quite excited for my future. I feel like I have an actual direction in my life for once and a clear goal.
I would have never reached this point with out having done all the stuff I did in the last few years.
Thanks to all of you guys who actually read this and those who ended traveling as a result of my thread. It was really amazing to actually meet one of you in real life by pure odds.
Ben if you are still reading this send me a message on FB some time.

So unless any thing changes there shouldnt be any more updates for a few months

>Community collage
For a non degree game design course.
It's 36 weeks and only a managable $1k

Sorry I re read my post and realized I didnt say what I wanted to go to school for and I just smoked a fat joint

Hey James Randi, been following the thread for a while. At first I thought I thoughts thread was self indulgent but you seem like a cool guy. Had some questions on penniless travel for you:

How to find places to stay in bigger towns / cities?

(How) Did you keep clothes clean while moving around?

Did you ever try collecting food from locals and how did it go?

I'm an EU citizen wanting to take myself overland by foot / hitching starting in June (when I'll at least have the weather on my side).

Side question: How has this way of life affected you spiritually / philosophically?

>Depends on what sort of city and what sort of place you want to stay.
Something nice and clean get on Couchsurfing or trustroots, make contacts in general (oh your going to spain, I have a friend with a place there you can crash for example)
Something long term, I've gotten really good at finding hidden urban spots for long term stealth camping. I could make a whole post on just this.
Something fun: look for places alternative people congregate and ask about squats and so on.

>Collecting food from locals
I don't understand the question.
I dumpter dived most of my food and then bought the rest. Some times while busking people would give me food. In one case I was totally broke and out of art supplies and "sold" several paintings for food on the street with a sign explaining my situation.

It's made me alot more open minded on things I would have other wise discounted. Typically I was really skeptical and pragmatic and boarder line uptight person. Now I'm more accepting of new ideas and things....just a more open person now in general.

hey randi, i dont think game design fits you the person you are.
this industry will make you a different person. a sicker person. a not so free-minded-anymore person. a other person.

from what i've seen in this thread i'd say you are a person for living in nature and work something with their hands. not a person who sits in from of a monitor all day long to make a living. i think you are tripping. im a gardener myself.

in german we say: "handwerker haben goldenen boden" - which means people who can craft things with their hands have golden ground beneath them.

this whole gaming hobby is just something nice but nothing you will want to wake up every morning for and live for. nah man. think about it.

Im also looking into this to broaden my skills in general and have more technical skills i can apply remotely.

Heads up,

My facebook got deleted. I can't get it back.
I decided to try using circlejerk, I've had an account for years but never used it.
I decided to post this on /r/vagabond just incase there is some weird posts here incoming.

Small content update.

Finally started making a few friends here in lisbon. Problem is most of them are in their early 20s. Their nice and all but I don't really have any peers here other than my GF, it's lonley in lisbon.
I tried busking again after not doing it for probably a year.
I stopped for so long because lisbon is the worst city I have ever busked in if I haven't already said.
The cops are ok but it's the tourists that suck here.
Every where else I've been I pull a few onlookers upto crowds in some cases.
I talk to people and they are polite, even if I make 0 money on a painting they maybe give me a little clap and some recognition.

Lisbon is different. I'll pull a crowd of 20 people who watch me the entire time i paint. If i try to talk to any of them they all immediately disperse. As soon as I finish my painting I hold it up to show the crowd so they can get a clear look at it.....literally every one is gone, every time.

There's a big call center here that hosts mostly only hosts foreign companies. It's cheaper to opperate the dutch amazon help line in portugal than in the netherlands.
Theres this area where all those employees gather on breaks and before and after work to drink and smoke weed and chill.
On friday it turns into a small street party with no cops.
I tried 2 weeks (on fridays only) in a row with some old left over cans of paint I had.
Each time I made about 20 bucks over about 4 boring lame hours of watching people drink and ignore me.
If I have to buy more paint I'll loose money on this so Im calling it quits on busking in lisbon officially.

Dude, nobody fucking buys canvas paintings off of nobodys unless you're in a hipster city where the target audience was already conditioned to buy as an emotional or in-group response. You will not make a fair wage doing it, ever, unless you're painting for speed, don't care about your work, and have good street presence.
Instead, get scans of your artowork made and add it to print on demand merch and set up an online store. I am speaking from experience, Randi. Though, if you want to keep trying, you could become A_Hitler with enough time.

>How do you keep your clothes clean while traveling.

I either wash them at the laundromat or i just find a public place with water like a stream or a fountain that is on the edge of town in a park and wash them the old fashioned way then hang them up to dry.

I have washed things in sinks at bathrooms before if I have a place to hang shit up and dry.

When I lived in swiss I had very close access to a very clean river to wash in.

This was a trip, please keep us updated. I check this website everyday, so I'll probably keep checking up on this thread.

I am planning something like this. I hate my go nowhere job where I am abused and am not given my legally mandated rights as an employee such as minimum wage and mandatory breaks. I wanted to sue him and was going to once I had the support of a licensed medical professional, got a new job and a lawyer. Unfortunately he spoke to me the other day about how poor his family was in egypt and how he had to work like a mule to get to where he is today and it turns out that there is a heart in my chest and I don't want to destroy his dream even though he is my abuser. I think about me and my dream and what I am working for, but if I succeeded at making it then I can guarantee that I wouldn't be risking it by withholding my employees rights and cutting corners at their expense. Like I feel for him because he came from almost literal slavery compared to our wage slave cast system and I know he didn't have guaranteed minimum wage or breaks or any of what he is withholding from us, the only difference is that this is America and there are many laws about this and he is choosing not to cooperate.
Now sorry for getting off track, but I am going to quit my job in a few months and start traveling. I am going to pay off my debts (all but my student loan) by July. Then if I can bare it I will work a few more months and save every penny I can. I saw in some hobo threads on other image boards that one could live off $50-75 a week easy. In fact that is high according to some, but if I choose to travel in my car then that's about another $25-30 a week to insurance not to mention the cost of gas which would vary by the amount of traveling or camping I do. Also these hobothreads don't really cover things such as travel since they are assuming that you are staying in an urban environment. Basically minimum to no traveling.
I don't know where I will travel first. I am in the US and that's probably the safest, but my brother is currently stationed in Germany and I may visit him before I start my adventure and perhaps just start backpacking Europe. If not Europe or the US then maybe Canada, Mexico or South America. I'll have a few thousand dollars for starting money and try to supplement that by doing odd jobs such as mechanic work, computer work or farming. I especially want to work on and learn from various hemp farms, but that would be limited to countries that support it as an agricultural crop.
Again sorry, I am not trying to hijack your thread. I don't currently have any questions, but I may as I read through this thread or perhaps I will have suggestions. Perhaps you could help me ensure that I am prepared.

Hey I'm the same poster that made the last two posts. I just finished reading the entire thread and clearly it's still going. I just read about your plans to come to America sometime. As I said stated I want to start my travels soon, but another thing that I want to do someday is grow industrial hemp. I have already learned a lot about it. A farm can net about 100k an acre for the whole harvested plant if a high cbd variety is used. Or up to 220k per acre if the farm had an on site lab. The thing stopping me is the investment involved.

I will make my own thread when I am getting ready. Right now nobody would want to read about me paying off my debts and working 40-50 hour weeks. I was more or less trying to strike conversation with you.

Sorry, I didn't realize.
I had one other poster make a wall of text hijacking my thread before about how they were thinking of traveling then didn't. I thought this was happening again.

Got my eyes on some plane tickets this winter to america. But saving money in Lisbon is a bitch.
Me and the GF are making enough to pay rent and live comfortably. But we don't earn enough to save and move forward.
Stress is high in my life.
I really regret letting my visa lapse, it was a decision made in depression and apathy.

get back to merica and get into sales or a trade. something that's booming ideally, but idk if anything's booming anymore. Working in dying industries sucks, like painting artwork on the street, for instance.

nah it's cool you did this though. I've read your thread since the beginning, and I've travelled a bit since then. Once you have a good job like a normal person you can travel again, but also have a home. it's pretty gud

I already said what my plan was when I get back to the us.

Im just getting some job in a grocery store or some shop.
I've learned how to keep my expenses to basically 0 over the years of being chronicly broke or homeless.
Like I said the plan is to go to school for some non degree game deving courses, get my TEFL, maybe my ESOL if i can get that with out a degree and save up and go traveling again around 2022

I can't remember where it happened but I argued with a guy somewhere doing the broke backpacking deal that you can't live on the road forever and your conclusion to this thread or soon to be back in the US working a job reminds me of it.

Life on the street is tough. I've seen this thread since it started almost 4 years ago. I've been through a lot of places in life and reading it through takes me back to them. It is sad in a way since so much has happened and I've fallen so far and most of my memories have been long since forgotten.

Life is a scam. I never knew what wonders I had would be drowned in just a handful of years and smothered in a realm of mediocrity and idleness. I guess I stopped climbing and the inertia was lost. I never made it how I wanted it despite kicking and screaming to get there. It just didn't work out. I pray for a death that is soon and painless daily. I can't stand this misery.

Don't fizzle out dude. I don't know the answers but for people like us, a normal life doing normal things is an exercise in torment. I can't connect with people in general and that is something a lot of people know and feel. But I can't connect with life either which seems rarer. I hope there is an end to all this.

Few days agoI returned from my trip to Roma,Italy. I visited very famous place for soccer fans Stadio Olimpico. It looks like a classical bowl inside with the rows of continuous seating. It should be mentioned that the arena is the home for two major Roman clubs. More info on https://worldstadia.com/stadio-olimpico.html I lived in Flaminio Holidays which is near to stadium.

Hey James Randi, I am planning on going to Europe in October with a friend to visit my brother. My brother is in Germany, but we are trying to decide where to travel to and how long we want to stay. Our destination is practically anywhere that we can travel by bus or train. So where might you be in October. Any festivals coming up or anything you might recommend?

Well there's octoberfest, I imagine that will sort of dominate every thing for the month of October.
Germany is super well connected.
If you plan your route ahead of time you can buy bus and train passes in advanced and you will save a bunch of money.
You can also just use blah blah car (a long distance ride share app) to get around as well.
I was mainly only in large cities in the winter (Berlin). Check out some nature and make a thread about it.

Also cool gif Oliver.

I know I've seen you posting here before but I met so many people over the years it all blurs together.
